gps issue - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have a program that relies on constant gps location but it wont connect to the gps on my i9000 is the gps routed to programs via "com" ports? if so is there a way of finding out what port its on and if i can find out what port the program uses?
its not that the gps isnt working cause it works for all other apps that use it, also i know the app uses gps exclusivly not the getbestprovider() function im just wondering if getting the gps info is different od different devices or does the os talk to the hardware then pass on the data to the app?
melli.

can anybody shed any light on this issue please?

[Q] cm7 gps

I know that somewhere around there is probably an answer to my question, but I'm just 'lazy' to go through the 700+ pages on the cm7 thunderbolt thread.
I'm running cm7 the latest version on thunderbolt and the only thing to complain about is the gps not getting a fix.
I use the gps navigation on a daily basis and this is what's keeping me from using cm7 for the daily driver on my phone. Anyone have a fix for this i would greatly appreciate.
(P.S. i remember there was a fix for the evo back in those days with the msn reader app and some number calling, anything like that for the thunderbolt?)
thanks in advance!
Laziness isn't really an excuse considering it's talked about on nearly every page in the thread.
First of all, note in the OP by slayher it says "gps slow to get locks" (not experienced by all btw).
That said, suggestions depend on whether your gps just can't lock or isn't even trying.
Anyway, a few in no particular order are:
Backup CM7 -> Load Sense Rom->Get GPS Fix->Restore CM7
Enable Wifi (whether connected to AP or not)
toggling cdma/lte in mobile network settings
resetting a-gps in GPS Status and downloading data
unchecking use wireless networks in location settings

[Q] please help me figure out what else i need

Hi, I'm planning on using my i777 as an android hotspot to run a small car PC/ media system
1) no matter what rom I use my wifi tether never works. I always get errors . I just downloaded the wifi tether app so I will try it out when I get the chance. Does anyone have advice on getting native tethering up and running? From my limited knowledge I am thinking what I need for this setup is infrastructure and not ad hoc.
I just bought the galaxy wifi 5.0 to mount in the dash.
I have an archos 5 with 500gb hdd I will hide to store media or I can buy a media HD if that's a better alternative
So in theory do I need anything else or should I be able to get a simple system together with what I have with the i777 tying everything together and providing a internet connection to the galaxy 5?
Thanks in advamce. I'm sorry if not all the questions pertain to the i777, but I figured most people who could help me with my error issue would know the rest of the answers and it made more sense then cluttering up a few different areas with separate threads

[Q] Connect two Android phones to share voice and data

Hey guys, I'm looking for a solution to connect one android phone to another over bluetooth to share voice and maybe data service. What I want to do is use my old Dell Streak as a GPS/media player in my car without having service to it. I would like it to connect to my current phone so I can make call through it, like a headunit with hands free bluetooth calling. I'm not so much worried about data, though it would be a plus but I don't think Android supports connecting to ad-hoc networks. I can't seem to find any app that supports this, and I'm not seeing anywhere on the Android system where this is possible. I haven't owned a car stereo that supports bluetooth calling so I'm not sure what to look for. If anyone has tried this and could help me out it would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Edit: Nevermind. I found a thread on here with a group actively looking for a solution to this. Thread can be deleted.
I guess a simpler way to put it is to say I want to make the phone in the car act as a handfree device for my phone with service, which would be in my pocket. I did find a couple threads which were just dead ends when searching with those terms. Does anyone know if the bluetooth api supports the phone acting as a device? I see that might be an issue I have come across in my searching so far.

[Q] Wifi icon not turning green ONLY on my wifi

I have just noticed that since a few days back my wifi icon in my CM7 nookcolor is not turning green anymore. Apparently the only related problem is gmail is not refreshing automatically. Google Play is working fine and I'm able to browse the internet.
The problem must be related to my wifi, because whenever I connect to my neighbors or my office wifi, it goes green without doing anything special.
I read google play requires an specific port open in the firewall, which is not open in mine although Gplay is working without it.
Is there any specific port or another setting that should be enabled in my wifi in order to my nook to connect to google servers?
Thanks.

Bump. Any ideas
Out of curiosity, who is your ISP? If you have AT&T U-Verse, you might have a mega router problem. I had one with my Nexus S and the icon wasn't lighting up green either.
It's a Mexican cable network called CablevisiĆ³n.

Wifi will not connect to anything

Hi all,
I have a serious issues with the Wifi in my HU - My unit has been working for years but now its not working it wont connect to anything, Just says connecting and says failed to connect - Update MCU and reinstalled the maylay 7.0 ROM same issue, I will attach the logcat to see if you guys can see anything that could be causing the issue as I really do not want replace the HU as I just upgraded about a year ago from PX3 to PX5 board. The correct chipset is set to MD725 and bluetooth is working perfect, Any ideas.
I have had problems with an HU that doesn't connect through wifi while 4G data access is active. It seems programs go to Internet to search IP addresse of wifi devices in place of searching in local network. I suppose routing doesn't work fine in Android.

Not hardware development. Is it mtcd
I mean that, after reading the text file, it seems hardware is ok and I think it is a problem related to network routing in OS. I think IP addresses in wifi network are unreachable because of the routing task in OS. If you have an active 4G, stop it temporarily to test wifi access. It is easy and fast. It is only an idea. Good luck!

First question is theoretically related to MTCD but I am afraid the answer is not related to a specific hardware but to OS routing. I think it is necessary to do the little test about the routing before to continue insisting in hardware issues. It is easy to do.
