Is there a way to hide or not show each and every image file on my phone in the gallery app. Gallery app shows not only pictures taken with my camera and albums but also images from all my apps installed. Thanks
Put a .nomedia file in folders you don't want shown. If you're unsure what that means, search for .nomedia.
I suggest that you look for an app called quickpic on the market to replace the stock gallery. Once you start using it you won't ever go back to stock. It has the functions which you need.

Been using Quickpic now for a long time and it's the best there is.
I'm surprised Google didn't buy this app and add their own tweaks to it as the stock gallery app isn't up to much at all.
Start any folder name with a full stop and it won't be shown in gallery even if file explorer is set to show hidden files

Not sure where to post this question. General seemed good. What is the deal with this gallery? I came from the Evo 3d and it's gallery would organize my pictures by the folder it was in. For example, I have a folder for icons, I don't want to scroll through all of them to show someone a picture I snapped a day ago. Any suggestions or can I put a gallery apk from another device on this one? Thanks yall.

The Motorola Photon uses Motoblur and thus has the Motoblur gallery. Find a device (or download a ROM) that has the normal 3D gallery. Use "adb pull /system/apps/Gallery.apk" and then "adb push Gallery.apk /system/apps" to install the 3D gallery.

I delete all of the stock gallery apps and also use Quickpic. After trying the 3d gallery app and a few others I have found that Quickpic from the market is the fastest and has a small footprint. It has a decent amount of options like being able to hide certain folders, etc. Check it out. You can always uninstall it if you don't like it!

I like Gallery+ . Seems faster than Gallery 3d even though it's based on it.

In my opinion, QuickPic is the best gallery app and it's free in the market.
Google's Gallery 3D works. The stock Moto gallery isn't actually bad if you use ADW or Launcher Pro to create a shortcut directly to the camera roll instead of that terrible landing page that shows when you open it normally.

Yes, I agree with skycamefalling - QuickPic is definitely the best gallery app and I've tried a lot of them.
I couldn't get the Google Gallery to install. Where did you pull the apk from?
I like QuickPic too but it doesn't pull in my Picasa galleries, and that's where all my pics end up.

Here's a Gallery 3D .apk that worked for me. Forget where I got it from, probably just searched for it once I realised the stock gallery was nearly unusable.

Does anyone have a hacked camera apk that allows you to link directly to gallery 3D instead?
Right now, if you try to take a photo with the camera and click on the picture, it says media gallery isn't installed. This is because i froze the moto gallery. I want to try and link the camera to use the gallery 3D for this instead.
Quickpic is my favorite gallery app.

I have another question which i find is not answered or I have overread: In the Folder "All Pictures" can I hide the pictures that I don't want to see? I have some apps and stuff on SD and all those pics are showing in this folder (and these are lots..). And is it possible to add a folder for the cam pics (so the cam pics are actually added when taken instead of going to the "All pictures" folder?
You can add a separate folder inside your picture folder (give it a name like "Private") with Astro (or some other file program) Inside that folder add another empty folder and name it .nomedia
Add the pictures that you don't want to display to the "Private" folder that contains the empty .nomedia folder.
Your gallery app will scan the folder, and any folder that contains a file with the .nomedia tag will be skipped.
The only downside is that to view anything in that folder will require you to either delete the .nomedia file, or you'll have to manually view the files in Astro or some other file explorer.

This time I wanna share with you a very nice app I found. It is a good alternative to Gallery 3D, wich for me is slow and buggy (fortunately, it will be no more in ICS)
It's Quickpic. Runs very fast, loads images with great speed and it gives a lot of options, like moving images to another folder, hidding folders and protect them with password, excluding certain folders from the explorer, and more.
Im using GingerDX V21 and this app is working just fine. The only bug I found is when it starts we can't scroll down to see more folders, we have to hit the back button and re-enter to the app or switch to landscape mode; aside that this app is awesome.
...And it's free, but so good that I'll donate. Search it in the market. Hope it works for you too.

On Quickpic have a function to hide/unhide image or video file but on Gallery 3D dont have that function.

I am agree with all of You.
1.Quickpic is very fast in loading thumbnails with List and thumbnail Views.
2.Shows more details about contents than G3D
3.Can open .gif files also play them.
4.We cant rotate video in FROYO roms but with Quickpic we can.
5.Also in Quickpic video player we can see battery lavel.
Can we rename this Quickpic to Gallery3d.apk and replace it as system default? will it calibrate with the stock camera mode?

you can make it default in stock camera when u open gallery in stock camera then it will prompt you to make default. But the photoframe widget i am not sure.
Hi to all,
I've tried to move QuickPic to /system/app using System TunePro (used to move other app with full success) but I get always a FC with this message:
"application initialize failed please install the app from the android market"
- I've removed GingerDX022 gallery app
- I've moved the QuickPic app to system/app with System TunePro application
- I've rebooted and deleted dalvik cache with cwm.

I've tried using an app called Nomedia, then clearing Gallery cache and rebooting the phone, but that hasn't worked.
There's (PC) apps that embed the album artwork into the .mp3 (look for ID3 editors), that way you can delete the .jpeg from the folder, that should solve the problem.
Not sure if this will work for .ogg/.flac/.etc
Is there no elegant way to do this? Not being able to exclude folders from the gallery seems like a missing feature.
Another example of why I prefer quickpic to the stock gallery either in the s3 or in any phone I've yet owned

Just change the name of the album art pic to AlbumArt.jpg and gallery will ignore it. Plenty of play store apps are available to automate the process.

Wouldn't this prevent the media player from scanning the folder for songs though?
Hi. Just wondering how to hide a pic or gallery folder on my rooted 4.3 note2? I have root explorer and Astro file on my phone. I tried moving the pic files to another made up folder but they keep showing up in the gallery. I dont want easy access to certain pics if someone pics it up and starts looking around. Kids etc. Thanks
