ICS 4.0 port possibilities - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hey Xda members
I have been thinking, Porting of ICS for our LG-p500's is not going to happen the best we can probably get is 2.3.7 with the 4.0 gui and a nice new kernel to support it. However I have been hearing that certain development teams are working on porting ICS. Is this true? How far do you guys think they will get? Hopefully within the next three months we shall see our first beta roms running 4.0 I really hope so as the new layout of 4.0 is better than 2.0-2.3.7. However they will run into issues such as giving support for the ARMv6 processor and fine tuning it so it will be able to run on half a gigabyte of ram... Which will likely limit the system very much so. I believe the minimum requirements for 4.0 are of the following:
1ghz processor
1gb of ram
these minimum requirements are double those of the p500's specs.
As I find out more I shall post links to developers teams threads which are working on ICS ports.
Also if anyone needs any help with their device leave a message as I can help with anything.

No, there are no minimum requirements for ICS. it's just that currently it's not possible to port ICS (no 3D(hw acceleration), so it's useless) because LG and Qualcomm haven't release new sources for ICS.

Back in time, when ICS sources were released and Andy started with his port, i told him that there would be no big big progress until some specific parts of source corresponding not only to armv6 but qualcomm chip itself (or lg stuff/sources) be released but he insisted he could manage to fix all by himself, now im sitting back with my bowl of pop corns
That beign said, im not here to disrespect or to demerite his hard work, and good lord that he has a team now to support him, as he realized when he was working alone on GBS phonenix it was a very difficult/ time consuming job and finally left that project...
Finally and hopefully, we have very good devs working in devices similar to O1 and they surely will find out a way to make ICS work, (if andy doesnt manage fix this those problems first........)

Yeah, making a build from source is a lot easier than a port from another device, it also tends to be more stable as well.

It's basically the same except that a configuration from a lower-end device (The G1 for example) will make it much simpler to build than making a custom device tree from scratch. Again, we need code we don't have, so we can only raise a war against LG or Qualcomm.

Honeycomb development

Here's an idea, maybe something else can contribute or confirm it might works..
the Nook honeycomb image is actually running on top of a 2.6.29-omap kernel, which indicate that only some parts might require 2.6.36.3 functions.
I know that the main problem for me porting it, was the libc.so which uses kernel calls not found in our existing 2.6.32.9 kernel. so it crashed due to some cache functions not implemented.
- could the missing cache functions be implemented into our 2.6.32 kernel?
- can the Nook edition with a working libc.so (hopefully without FPU function compiled) be used to replace our xoom image libc.so which crashes?
So to make an early edition can we merge the ARMv5 libs (i assume it is from the emu) and use this with xoom edition and then keep our libnv* environment which is compatible without our nvrm_daemon (which no one can fix, although a proper kernel work for booting 2.6.36.3)
ideas.. but if its possible to put into "real life" is another story.
and how many can do experiments?
Artem wrote he is on the 2.6.36.3 kernel, but since we might have an option to go around, maybe also worth considering, if display driver lacks nvrm_daemon support.

I am able to write basic scripts, xml etc.. and have a brain...

i tries all this out now.. and got passed some link references between libs but the "libc.so" issue came coming back..
so it did not work..
im closing the idea here :-( not worth spending time on, so only the solution with updating kernel and rewriting drivers must be the way forward.
May be I should wait for ubuntu 11.04 or some other linux OS for folio 100
Toshiba &Google is not so kindness. Are they only want to earn more money, right?

correct,
we already know it has different resolution . and probably better display now, and no hardware buttons on the side, so no I2C used for this..
i think its very different, as it probably also got 802.11n wifi now, which we dont have and need different ar6000 driver.
i think its a long road downhill for folio100 if the 200 edition should be anything close as source for porting.

Please, I'm no expert in this, so bare with me for asking questions.
Honeycomb uses a different kernel than Froyo ok.
For Froyo we have the source for all (hardware) drivers ?
Can the "android" part of Honeycomb (from for example Xoom) be put on
a kernel with required hardware drivers or are there stuff in the "android"
stuff that is hardware dependant ?
Is it hard to port drivers between kernel versions ?
Just trying to understand the many tasks need to get Honeycomb on Folio.
/Martin

xoom kernel source is available, koush used it to make his clockworkmod work , and it works fine, and its also used for oc'ing.
but its pretty much the tegra2 source we can get from nvidia. but alot of porting to do.

I dont give any money, because $aur0n want to backport some of the Cyanogen Mod 7 features
Please read the Developement Thread of Urukdroid.
Why we need more than one ROM?
If many Developers work on different projects, its crap
But if many Developers work on one project together, this project will be good
Thats my opinion Thats why i support Urukdroid by testing and helping on Developement
i think sauron should work on a cm7 port and base his future work on cm7
what wider range then with cm you could have you would profit from much more developers (userspace and some kernel work for sure too) and we would be faster on updates from google and completly independent(well not 100%) from soon stopping asus support
if we want to gain some life for our gen8 this is imo the last chance we have.

And:
Be happy that we've a rom!
I've had the Archos Gen7 (Archos 5 Internet Tablet) and nobody developed things for it
Just some extremly unstable Froyo Alpha releases... very poor
But we've got a really good rom on Gen8 Be happy, and joyn Urukdroid "team"
@Lennb:
Why are there so many cars when a xyz is doing ok?
Because everyone has other needs, other opinions and other wishes.
So if you want to stay with Uruk, fine.
If someone wants MIUI.11 or CM19 ported it is his wish.
And if he is willing to pay for his wishes, than let him.
@gbohm:
€10 from me
my worry with urukdroid is that it is still based on archos because userspace stuff isn't open sourced, so the experience stays.
with cm you can work on every part of the "rom" the possibilities are a lot bigger.
you can't compare a modded rom with a custom kernel to a full blown aosp implementation.
i think sauron makes a wonderfull job but he is working on a platform with a short life span, cm is here to stay and with any new dev it will get better.

Wrong.
As stated often before we have the sde, which allows us to install another kernel.
If someone would implement one with nandroid features, scriptingsupport and second boot we have the recovery.
There is no need to break anything.
And juts o get CM working that is not even needed.

Yes it got cracked. BUT no developer in his right mind is going to use that crack.
If you apply the crack the possibility of bricking your device is growing exponentially because there is no fallback position available.
Other android devices have fastboot or sd card boot out of the box.
Archos has neither so if you patch the boot0 and avboot and the next time the user wants to install a stock firmware there is a big possibility the device will be bricked if that firmware updates only one of the two boot loaders.

You can't tell people what they want.
You can only listen to them. They're willing to PAY money to get a CM7 port. That means that they're pretty set on one.
I would like a port too and I'm willing to put up $20 for someone to port over clockworkmod and another $20 for a stable CM7 build.
CM7 would be WAYYYYY faster than Uruk or any other manufacturer firmware. Have you SEEN how slow the Archos Gen 8 tablets can be? Something OBVIOUSLY doesn't work the way it's supposed to. Nothing with a 1GHZ snapdragon processor that runs Android 2.2 should fall so behind in nearly every task it takes on.
Not to mention that 256 mb of ram should be more than enough.
20$ from my side too, for stable CM7+ on archos 101

Let us take some Pressure From Racht.

Hello People, I'm Moon And trough my world of android have i gotten lowend devices for own use. i love them because they're so cheap and still Great.
I have come from the GT540 Optimus to the ZTE blade and now the x8,
(I kept the Blade trough.) I am a big fan of Racht and his sense ports, what i want to ask you people for, since Racht seems to have disappeared should we do what developers and friends of him do. We finish what he started.
Most important is currently The GL Drivers I think, Maybe some RAM Management. The free ram is very low. (about 40\50mb) This causes Rosie to reload after coming from other apps. this would be cool to fix.
I asked XDA MEMBER # Kenia1234 (he ported it to the SGS)
About 3d\open gl and wifi. this was his reply.
however as regards 3D I fixed it using my device's libs under system/lib/egl or under /vendor/lib/egl and of course using a CM7 powered kernel...
as regards the wifi, it's a little bit more complicated...you'd need to have the bins of your device under /system/bin and the firmwares all in order, as the kernel wants to...
hope this was useful!!

The Ray is the best Choice after the Arc, For me, Since i like big screens.
But yes. Lets just hope for the best. the Guy i updated on, (On the op) is doing GB sense too. We should let Racht Rest and hope for the best.
In racht's last Sense Port there is a lot of bugs. I really love that rom but it has a lot of bugs.
I was without SIM Card and in the Notification Bar it was showing that i used %S(something like this) tries for the unlock key and blablabla.
SD Safe to remove bug in ROOT Apps
I tried to connect the phone to my car radio and it doesn't show anything in the phone, only the icon changed to charging, but no led, no popup for connecting, nothing. And the radio does not recognized the phone. (i think it will happen the same in the computer, i think)
3d, wifi, 3G and vibra not working, as it shows on the original topic
So this is what has to be worked on
I cannot help you so much because i'm not a good java developer, i can only understand some parts of the code, but i cannot write it. But if you want a beta tester i'm here to try to find the maximum bugs i can
I will love if someone could continue what Racht did
I am following the news.
As I have said some months ago, X8 is now added to official CM tree, you can see here :
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=shakira
So, I guess thats the end of CM story (even that I prefer tweaks by doixanh).
Sense rom depends on kernel features that do not work on .29 kernels.
See HTC threads, all new roms require .32 or .35 kernels, lets hope X8 will get a new kernel ported.
And thanks again for support

Request for non-Samsung themed JB ROM

Hi Kazuni et al, are you developing a non-Samsung themed JB ROM for the I9305? Something like the many CM10/ParanoidAndroid ROMs that are available for the I9300? Would be great to have a "purer" ROM for this new flagship....less of the Samsung customization
This has been discussed several times before but the I9305/I9300 share most of the same components, less the radio correct? If so, would the I9300 ROMs work if they're used w/ a 9305 radio instead? So it would be an easier way to port 9300-developed ROMs over?
Would love to see this, esp if it's built on the new 4.1.2!
There are other differences as well like a different partition layout, but I guess that they might partially work if configured with a compatible layout, would likely have no sound or modem functionality without proper work, a Rom compiled for this model would be better.

Don't get me wrong, but didn't you notice the big ****storm about samsung being developer unfriendly and the exynos platform being the hell on earth?
Some of our guys are very sick of samsung and are not going to touch any of the new samsung devices.
Not saying that nobody will port it, but i recommend you to sell this device as fast as possible and get a new upcoming nexus device if you really wanna run AOSP based roms.
If you like laggy and buggy AOSP roms and especially waiting for round about 6 months to get a new android version, stay on what you're currently owning.

And SamsungExynos posted a tweet today "full availability of integrated source code for #Exynos 4 family of processors on OrigenBoard by the end of 2012"
I wonder what will happen to all these devs that left the GS3 because of samsung not releasing the Source. And then now it looks like they will b releasing something soon, Are you all going to come back? Or just let new and upcoming devs take over. I Feel that with all sources released on this device with the Quad Core and 2gb Ram DAMMMM how smoooth will a proper built CM10 run. And to be honest My device is very smooth as it is. I am not dying for CM10 i actually like the new touchwiz, I like features and animations. And with all of that , this is still hell smooth in my opinion. Either way To me its a win win, if they release the source GREAT if not oh well still very good!!... But i do believe they will release it.

It's a exynos development board and has not much to do with samsung smartphones.
The ICS code was broken, outdated and mostly unusable on phones.
The same code is now available again.
I really don't expect a wonder.
From what andreilux has seen and stated below it does not seem like the old stuff and samsung continue to update. Last update was done earlier today here is what andreilux said in the exynos petition page in the i9300:
(They released the 5250 development board and site together with a 800 page user's manual, something which we didn't have before for any SoC. I'll have to see what they uploaded on the Git as it's quite a lot.
Edit: from what I can see at first glance they have 4.1.1 Jellybean sources up there and apparently the newest stuff.

So it seems samsung is pulling up there sox and getting **** done. Maybe christmas came early i also have news from a great dev getting our devic. (I9305) but must not say who at this point

Omfg sorry for spam but the dev will build really ROMs?
Sorry Spaming here but a CM10 Rom for my I9305 would be realy Great.
+1 to non-Samsung-based JB rom like CM10, PA or PACman's mix of all three I'm picking up my i9305 this weekend (South Africa) and really hope that some of the big dev's take to this handset.. number of roms at current is dis-heartening :crying: :crying:

Hi codeworkx.. this is a copy of a post I made on another i9305 thread, it seems more relevant here tho..
Samsung have released the source code for the i9305.. here and I noticed it's also on Github here does this mean there's a chance of more dev's buying into this device for custom rom and kernel devving
defibitely deserves a plus one on this. cm10 porterssss please i would love to experience a proper stock jb theme

[Q] Porting android 4.4

Hello. Prompt, please, can I port android 4.4 (in this case CyanogenMod 11) in this manual ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/guide-cm11-how-to-build-cyanogenmod-11-t2515305 )? Is it even possible to port it, at least 4.0. Sorry for my bad English.
Can anyone try it?
No drivers. It is completely infeasible. Stop asking.
bad news

This device would be amazing with kitkat on it.
I wish.
The HP touchpad just got CM11 and it uses the same snapdragon s3 APQ8060 as the jetstream. Maybe its possible to port that?

i'll tell show_p.
the problem is the HTC drivers, which cannot be ported from any other device. maybe there's something in the HP.

As silly as it may sound. I literally now have no use for my jetstream as I am fully fed up of the OS it has. I have it rooted and CWM 6.0 installed on it and flashed BMW Boy rom on it. At this point, I am willing to work with developers to come up with a custom rom for it. I will be more than happy to test it on my device if they need me to. Plus, I can provide any information needed about this device. I am getting into developing, so perhaps Jetstream could be used as an ultimate sacrifice lol.
Just rooted SGH-I317M (NOTE II-Rogers) and installed CM 11 Nightly on it. I refuse to go back to stock. Im loving my phone so much more.:good:
can we?
Is it possible to build the drivers from scratch? Even if it is not for free we can all pitch in and pay a developer. Hopefully HTC can help despite our many failed efforts. I am willing to pay to get this device up to date, it feels to wrong to let something so full of potential go to waste. Even today it still looks better than most tablets available. I love my jetstream !

Go to www.codeaurora.org and find the Android for MSM project. I tried to backport some of the code from that project into Hive kernel.

Will do! Just talked to an HTC rep. She apologized for the lack of support and sent a ticket of the conversation to HTC in hopes of assistance. She is even going to try to talk to her higher ups and hope that they are generous! My hopes are not that high but i was really glad to talk to someone who was concerned with the matter. She could not even believe what i was telling her ( she never used honeycomb so i am guessing she was surprised with what we have to go through.) I hope 2014 will be different for the Jetstream. O and i never thanked you for your hard work so ill take the time now. Thank you for your assistance, it means a lot to me and the other people with the jetstream here at xda! Great work and an awesome rom!
