WebOS Open Source Develpment - HTC EVO 3D

Is any developer(s) going to try tog et webOS on the evo 3d? Since it will be open source it should definately be worth a try, the touchpad has gotten android on it so it might be possible to do the opposite. if anyone has news plz post it or replies thanks.

I guess it would be possible, but because there is not much demand, I doubt it will ever happen.
EDIT: It seems this guy is going to start working on fully functional webOS on the Evo 3D once he gets the source code. Check out his twitter.

who remembers the webOS heroc ROM booting sham? lolol...

Ooh ooh pick me pick me^^^^^

I for one, never had WebOS but thought it looked cool on my buddies Palm Pre. It would be pretty cool to be able to dual boot it with Android.

Hoooly crap my dream come true. Many ex- webOS users have come to the Evo 3D, afaik. This shall be perfect. I've DREAMED of this.

Lol, I have a touchpad and couldn't stand it until I got android on it. Now I never boot back into webos. I can't think of any reason why I would want webos on my evo, but that's just me. This is very intresting though. Always cool to see new development.

I have a touch pad as well and much prefer web os to Android. That is real multitasking. I have been using Android since the hero and ran cm7 on my hero for 4-5 months I know Android and I like it but at least for the touch pad web os is far better. If only it had the app support.

yea that's a big killer. that may very well change in time though since it's being open sourced and ported to more devices.

With WebOS now being open source, and the one of the designers of the WebOS "card" system now at google, I can easily see this being implemented into future versions of Android. Imagine WebOS with the hardware acceleration of ICS, and app support of Android? Plus, the multi-tasking of WebOS was just awesome, and very easy to use, compared to the Android implementation (hold down home, and wait...sometimes right away, sometimes several seconds). I do like the app switching of ICS, at least on the Galaxy Nexus (legacy phones still have to deal with the hold down home method).

Whoa Mozilla labs has plans to build their own OS based on android. Its just a concept right now but its crazy to see how far technology could go. The original article was on gizmodo but I thought id share since were all bored and arguing around here anyways. I looked for this before I posted it and couldn't find anything similar in the 3D section.

That video has been around for a while but the news about them building an OS using Android is new. Sounds like a UI on top of Android to me though.

Ahhh yeah does sound like a custom UI sort of like sense but the article said they arent adopting java; could be interesting. I know im late i barely found that video lol.
If that thing was ever built, it'd be the most expensive smartphone that has ever existed, haha.
Can't imagine the battery life on that thing.
I saw that about a year ago and I don't think we are much closer to it being realistic. It looks amazing but I think we are years away from anything close to that.

Damn its that old lol sheesh; yeah battery life would probably be god awful, you'd need a backup generator in your house to keep it going lol. @buckley im sure it would at least be 1000 at minimum.

Although they don't have the same sensor technology for typing and stuff, you have been able to order phones with built in PICO projectors from overseas forever. I own a Pico projector seperately and it is awesome. Not much bigger than the 3VO. Well, like 3 times thicker, but can fit in your pocket.
Again, they've been making them for years overseas, so why the have to pretend being able to project your phones screen on to the wall is some future concept is silly. I know it has a lot more features than that, so it is a concept phone. But I just think it's interesting that projector part has such a wow factor when they are made everyday.
This is from CES 2009. A Samsung phone for Korea:

Put an ice cream sandwich on it and see if it runs faster!!!
Can we get an "Asshat" section setup to this forum and move some of these threads there?
Have you tried stripping one end of a extension cord and wiring it up to your device, see if you can get some more juice to it and overlock!! Also you may also consider adding a hamster + wheel for extra umph.
I know huh...I had to reply with that comment, couldn't help myself....we should have a TFP BS Thread section......would be at least a place for many laughs.

is it faster than the overclocked HP touchpad a fellow member put a video up comparing Prime to? we all know how fast that thing is

BTW: I have root access right out of the box and no encrypted bootloader. The nice thing about it is I can change the Rolodex cards to any style and color I want and I still get my warranty
I agree, among all this turmoil we can use some clowning.
*coughs* so.. Handwriting recognition is great, too!
The best part is that you don't have to buy a stylus! It also works with a BIC Pen! Now that's what i called backward compatibility.

Amazing! Any news on when it will be out?
will it be open source? for ports to HP touchpad cuz I doubt they'd do it if they care about 'consumer experience'
the UI does look amazing...its exactly what I wanted from a tablet
Its running on ICS, wouldn't it be possible to do distribute this as a custom launcher with its own widgets.
Either way its nice to see other companies taking advantage of the Android source and adding their own enhancements to it. Some call it fragmentation, but its no different than Linux distros. In the end the user gets the power to customize even more.
Why is Bud Bundy on their website?
On a serious note, Teknision has some real pretty eye-candy on their site.
But aside from contributing to the PlayBook interface, it looks like all they have done so far is prototypes.
The demo looks good but they are pandering to the OEMs, not the consumers.
If anything, I think you might see this on a very expensive, yet to be produced device.
Maybe next year.
Can't a Dev come up with something like that for us in the free world (donations given obviously), because stock Android on tablets in general has yet to impress me.

The world revolves around money... i cannot express how lucky we are to have the community we do, and the software that has come from it. Sadly, i see that community shrinking over time, not growing

In order to develop something like that, a developer would need to have the resources that teknison has, the man power that teknison has, the money that teknison has, and the test devices that teknison has.
none that neither I nor any other developer ever WILL have. so no, we cant come up with something like that. you cant just throw something like that together. its taken probably the better part of a year with a group of people to develop something like that.
So, time goes, but what are the news from Teknision about Project Chameleon?
I think I would get tired of this pretty quick. Transition animation is pretty cool but there is a point where I want things to open quicker and this just looks like a lot of graphics without adding anything all that great.
A lot of it depends on how whether it can be tailored to each persons wants. So many times I see something that looks cool on youtube but then you try it your self and it doesn't do what you want it to do.
Can this run flawlessly on CN ICS or classicnerd ICS?
Anybody give some feedback?

Some people have already had success running Ubuntu on the Galaxy Note. It's not an official build so it won't be as tight as the one Canonical has running on the Atrix, but it's a pretty promising start.

hmm... not quite
that one is different
that one is really running Ubuntu in Note or whatever phone you have
the new one is HYBRID
you are still running Android, but at the same time it's running Ubuntu
so when you do things in Android or Ubuntu, both sides updates immediately
and the phones automatically switches back between a Desktop or a phone as you dock / undock the phone

Does anybody have any information about the development of this for the i717? I haven't been able to dig up how this hybridization process works. if i had access to the sources that cannonical came up with for the atrix prototype I'm fairly certain it should be a direct port.
it strikes me particularly odd that cannonical would keep this technology closed source given how open ubuntu generally is.
please, anybody with info, give a shout...
I know that this thread hasn't been posted in for a while, but I'm very interested in the functionality that it represents. I'm rather curious to know why there isn't a greater amount of pursuit of this from either user demand or dev perspectives.
I'm interested in any new information anyone can provide!
Thanks!
I wonder how many people are running some version of Ubuntu right now. I've been using it for a few years now and would loooooooove to see my phone and laptop be an extension of each other!

Interesting idea for a port! I'm intrigued.
Strange, this looks very similar to TouchWiz... My girlfriend has an LG myTouch Q, and I swear they ripped off all sorts of elements from older versions of Sense on that phone (like Sense status bar, icons, menu styles, etc, just minus the Sense widgets and homescreen). Does LG license parts of TouchWiz or Sense to use on their own phones?
Looks good so far!
