[Q] VPN on the Nook? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Has anyone found the VPN settings hidden anywhere on the Nook? I've been digging around through the various settings panes with the help of AnyCut, but haven't stumbled across anything for network settings that isn't in the stock Nook settings panes. I'll settle for either IPSec or PPTP, either would be better than nothing on open wifi nets.
It would also be nice to be able to be able to use Juniper's VPN for work, but Junos Pulse is coming up as "not compatible with your device" on the Android Market.
Any suggestions?

I asked the same question a week or so ago and got no answer.
I havent been able to find any solution myself either.

I saw that thread and it reminded me of VPN settings that I stumbled on while looking at files/inside settings files (not in menus) when I first got my NT, but then I couldn't find them again so didn't post. There is no native support/applications for setting up VPN on the NT at any rate, so you would have to find a separate program, but it looks like some basic android OS support might be there, just not the software or settings menus :/. Did either of you try 5 VPN or a similar app?
edit: Nope, not supported on the NT. All signs point to no until a custom rom or mod is available. I agree - it IS a big oversight and odd omission (and people complained about it on the NC, so they should have fixed it). It's definitely a software issue though, so eventually a feature that can be added.

[Q] Android Market online issue

I am using a GTab with Vegan Gingerbread.
When I try to install an app from the online Market (market.android.com) on my tablet, it always say cannot associate my device to the account. And I find nowhere in account settings to do so.
Can we associate a tablet to google account and get application from online market, if we use an aftermarket ROM?
Also, anyone knows how to turn off the notificaion sound when email arrives (not turning off the whole volume of the tablet) in "Email" and "Touchdown"
thanks
Have you tried accessing the Market with your tablet? Try that first.
Secondly, depending on what you are trying to install it may not work to install it from the Web Market....
Thirdly, there are other posts that have dealt with this.
Finally, thanks for posting this in the correct forum, though it hasn't gotten the answers you were looking for just yet.

[Q] SGS2 and 'mobile' websites

Hi Guys,
So, I've been Googling and forum-browsing for about two weeks now trying to find a solution to my problem but haven't been able to find, specifically, what I wanted so I thought I'd try my luck here to see if anyone else has experienced this:
For about a month, give or take, my SGS2 no longer uses 'mobile' versions of websites and I can't work out why (as in, what's changed) – because it used to before.
In case there's any confusion, what I mean is when I go to www[dot]google[dot]com for example, it loads the normal google homepage, not the smaller, optimised mobile google home page. This applies to Facebook, Wikipedia and a bunch of other, unrelated, websites that I browse on my phone that no longer auto-detect my phone and switch me to the mobile site. Which is what I want it to do (switch me to the mobile version of the site, that is).
Anyone else experiencing this and know of a solution?
My SGS2 is unlocked/unbadged, and I am running a custom ROM (Litening 2.2) although I was on 2.2, and previous versions of Litening, without this happening - so I don't think it's the ROM (plus I've searched it's thread).
I've also tried other, non-stock browsers (such as opera and FF) and they have the same issue. I've also tried clearing caches.
I've checked just about every damn setting on the phone that I can find, and Ive even removed almost every non-stock app but nothing seems to fix the issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
they probably forced the useragent of the internet app.
try to tape : about:useragent in the adress bar.
for opera and FF , if i remember, you can manage this in the settings.
Ok it was set to Custom and the code was:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_7; en-us)
AppleWebKit/530.17 (KHTML, like Gecko)
Version/4.0
Safari/530.17
No idea what that is or what it means, but it seams odd to have so many references to Mac. Anyways I changed it to 'Galaxy S' and now it's working again! Thank you so much!
if i remember, there is a thread in the "theme and apps" section, about managing the useragent to be sure it won't revert to the "default" useragent(the mac one in your custom rom case ^^ ) after closing the app or rebooting the phone .
just in case it reverts again to the Mac one after a reboot
[edit] my bad it was in the android original dev section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126826&highlight=browser
that's probably how he modifies it, so it will revert to the mac one after a boot :/ (modified framework-res.apk, so you will need to learn to use apk manager if you want a "stock" behaviour).
Or just never reboot! (jokes )
Thanks for your diligence mate, very much appreciated

Cannot enable muiti-user in Andriod Lollipop on Lenovo Yoga 3 8"

The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 does not come with multi-user, so I've been trying to set it up so my family can actually share the tablet without kid-adult conflicts. I'm running Android 5.1.1
As suggested in a number of forums, I've rooted the device and modified build.prop to include:
fw.show_multiuserui=1
fw.max_users=8
The two lines of code are in the build.prop file after rebooting the tablet and "pm get-max-users" in adb shell returns 8, so the two lines of code are in there. However, there is no multi-user icon either next to the settings on the lock screen or the swipe-down menu (next to settings icon, where I hoped it would be). So I cannot add or switch users.
I've tried manually adding users through the adb shell using "pm create-user [username]" with no luck...they may exist in the back-end somewhere, but as a tablet user I can't see them.
I've tried rebooting several times, removed screen lock, and eaten a bunch of chocolate but nothing seems to work.
Any help would be much appreciated!
same issue for S8-50 running 5.0.1. actually the profile section can be found in settings if search for 'profile' . from there the user can also be switched but that's about it - no ability to switch between users in lockscreen
I bought two tab3 10" 16GB for the kids for xmas, and they had a "Users" entry in the settings, but no user avatar in the quick settings.
It seemed pretty good, so I bought another of the 32 GB version for myself and my wife and that has neither. However, I was able to set up user accounts for us by searching for users in the settings menu, so it appears to be there. Unfortunately, it doesn't allow any sane way of switching users, since one has to be logged in as a user to do it... It cannot possibly be considered a good idea to do this, it has to be a bug...
I'd be very interested in a solution to this problem too.
any findings an that so far? How to "search for 'profile'" Am on tab 2 a8-50f, with mentioned changed in build.prop but no options in settings
It is actually as simple as kjekje suggests.
Open the settings tab. Instead of scrolling up and down and looking in every submenu for a "users" section like i did, just click the magnifying glass icon and search for "users". Seems like Lenovo have just hidden it from the menu.
Further broken in 6.0.1
I just upgraded the tablet to 6.0.1 yesterday, as it was pushed by the usual channels. Figured it couldn't make it any worse. It did
Now, if I search for users, I can switch to a restricted user, but I cannot switch back, because there's no option for it when I search for it in restricted mode.
So, I would still be very interested in a better solution to this problem? The only good solution is to be able to switch users when the screen is locked. Anybody found anything by further digging?
I don't know why on earth Lenovo is doing this to us. Perhaps they figure we will buy another tablet if there's no multiuser...? But it surely won't be a Lenovo, they ought to understand that.

Can't change location or screen orientation

Hi all,
Hope I'm posting this in the right place. If not, please move.
I have Remix_OS_for_PC_Android_M_64bit_B2016072603 installed as a virtual guest in Virtualbox 5.0.24_Ubuntu r1083 with Xubuntu-core 16.04 as the host machine. Using a Toshiba Satellite Pro L510. Took me four days to nut out how to get to this point, but installed and booting and stable now.
My issues:
1/ Location: When I try to run an app from Play Store it thinks I'm outside of Australia/New Zealand (the app I'm trying to run is specific to those regions). I'm in Australia, the app works fine on my phone (am logging in exactly the same way).
(* Update: I installed GPS Status and it tells me GPS is not switched on. Was hoping to then change the location with Fake GPS, which I also installed. It won't do anything with same message: GPS not enabled or similar.)
2/ Resolution: The screen defaults to portrait, as expected I suppose, but I have a 1366x768 monitor and it doesn't fit in the screen. Consequently, I have a scroll bar because as Virtualbox Guest Additions is not compatible with Remix OS at this point there is no mouse integration (I need to hit Right Control to use mouse in host and same to use in guest again). I need to press a bunch of keys to just scroll the screen up and get back to where I was going. :|
Other than that, all working great, Remix OS is great, thanks to the team that created it. The main reason I was wanting to use it is to use this one app on my computer (AFL Live) and plug my computer into the TV. I don't use my phone for anything other than that one app, SMS and the occasional call so I am by no means an Android junky. In fact, before this, I knew very little about it (but a lot about Linux/Ubuntu).
This install has been a quest, a learning curve, and these are my last two hurdles so I'm calling for help if it's out there. Trawled the net, tried some things, but have hit a brick wall with these two problems.
My first post so not sure of the protocol. If these two issues should be the subject of two separate threads, mods please advise and I will edit accordingly and create a new thread.
Tnx in advance.
(* Further update: Just having a read of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/remix/remix-os/remix-os-installation-rooting-t3293769
Wondering if rooting the device would allow me to change any of these, in particularly, the location to Australia where it should be, or switch on GPS so my app can see where I actually am. I'm presuming it thinks I am in the Cocos Islands or somewhere else!)
(* And further update: The screen resolution was as easy as typing Alt+F1 to launch a terminal then 'wm size 1366x768'. That looked terrible, though, so changed it to 1048x768 (from memory) and it is good enough, though not perfect. I may be able to get closer with further tweaking. Now the last, and most important, hurdle to leap: How do I get Remix OS, and more specifically my AFL app, to know I'm in Australia. Frustration. It's taken about ten days, on and off, to get here and still not quite where I want to be, but hopefully my travails can help someone else along the way ...)
Gave up on it. If anyone comes up with a way of running Remix OS in Virtualbox and setting the location, please post. Guestadditions would probably fix it and maybe one day ROS will be compatible with it.
On the other hand, I did learn a lot more about Android than I cared to know, but am now thinking about buying my first ever Android tablet to do the job with a USB/HDMI adapter.

S21 Android 12 "item already copied to clipboard" pop-up [SOLVED]

SM-G991U - Since Android 12 upgrade, often when unlocking I set a random pop-up that says, "item already copied to clipboard". I can't find anything to tun it off and it screaming doesn't affect to issue either. Anyone else have this and fix it? It makes no sense.
I'm also experiencing this but unfortunately I've no idea what's causing it. I'll keep an eye out for more reports of it.
I found some complaints on the Samsung forum too. Nothing suggested seems to fix it. I keep f'ing with settings that not only don't fix this but other things then get FU. Supper annoying.
What I think is happening is that unlocking the screen triggers the copying to clipboard pop-up but it's just the message. I can't see that anything is copied to clipboard except text I choose.
Not sure my AT&T POS can be rooted easily but when I get tired of this clipboard nonsense I'll look into it. I imagine a custom de-bloated ROM will fix it is Samsung won't.
Do you have KDE Connect installed? If so, could you try disabling Clipboard Sync in the plugin settings and see whether that stops the pop-ups?
Thanks. That suggestion has promise. I assume that worked for you. I've disabled it and will let you know after a day or two. Maybe the reason it isn't a huge problem is that that Android/Linux users aren't a big user base?
Since I've disabled that option in KDE Connect I've not seen the pop-up once (been a couple of days).
It makes sense because I think KDE Connect is regularly copying stuff to the clipboard from the connected computer. A lot of the time it will be the same data and whereas Android 11 never reported it, Android 12 obviously does.
So it's not an Android issue as such (although why _would_ it report that a needless copy to clipboard operation has been performed? It would just be an annoyance anyway!), I think KDE Connect needs to change to a check before copying to the clipboard.
Raised a bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=446567
Excellent. You totally nailed KDE Connect as causing it. I haven't gotten the pop-up for 2 days now.
KDE Connect could "fix it" by simply making the "feature" off by default. I'm still inclined to think Android should fix it. Earlier Android releases didn't have this problem. I've had KDE Connect for years.
Thanks for the work around!
I am having this issue( item already copied to clipboard) with a new Samsung A52 (recently updated to android 12 One UI 4.0 but was doing the same prior to update), i do not have KDE connect installed that i can find.
Well, since removing KDE Connect I haven't had any issue with it. I suggest you start a new thread for the A52. This thread solves is for the S21.

Same, i have the same issue on Galaxy Fold 3 and no KDE installed
Crazy idea but knowing that removing KDE Connect from the S21 fixed the issue, install KDE Connect and then uninstall KDE Connect. Maybe it leaves some residual that corrects the problem. Can't hurt.
I also recommend starting a thread for the A52 asking this question.

Crazier things have happened ! i will look into that and see if it works .
i have indeed started a thread in the A52 forum ( about 3 weeks ago)with no responses as of yet .

Best I can do is keep my fingers crossed for you. Sorry
It is not an issue. It's a feature in Android 12 that warns user that the app is copying the content of the clipboard. It's a privacy feature and you can turn it off at settings - privacy.
Didn't work for me while KDE Connect was installed. Maybe this is the problem "Alert when clipboard accessed" being turned on under privacy for the A52 users.
