Rooting Xperia S

Good day, XDA. I'd like to ask help with regards to rooting my Xperia S. I have recently bought this and it got shipped with ICS 4.0.4 and build number 6.1.A.0.45 and I updated its build number to 6.1.A.2.45. I have also unlocked its bootloader successfully. Now I'm having problems on how to root this. I've read certain posts regarding ICS rooting and they all state that it has to have 6.1.A.0.45 build number. But I don't know how to rollback to the previous build number. What should I do?? Please help..
Ciaossu!~
Just flash Advanced stock kernel v14 by arakmar via fastboot.
What will it let me achieve then, bro?
BTW, thanks for the reply.

I am in the exact situtation as you. I too bought my Xperia S last week and have updated to the latest firmware. As this is my first Android phone, I have no clue how to move forward.
I would be glad if you post your findings. Thanks.

Thanks for the link. but the link you gave is for GB and I am on ICS already. (I know, there is a way to flash to GB but... ) I will better wait for a perfect way for rooting a device with ICS on locked BL installed.
BTW, here
Also, you can never brick your device on LOCKED bootloaders so don't worry
DId he mean unlocked bootloader?

Yea, i too hope someday someone will develop a way to root so that you don't have to go back to GB !!
Only for unlocked bootloader... here is a step by step I put together using the information gathered from various threads here in XDA.. I have used this very same method for my phone, so it is definitely working.. if you run into any problem like not being able to get into the Fastboot mode, or I missed some file, let me know..

So essentially you are just replacing a stock kernel by a rooted kernel. What if I want to go back to the unrooted kernel?

[Q] Root for Xperia s

Hi,
Have Xperia S, tf300 and new to android...
Basically why do i need root?
Like in iPhone i understand but with android what can i get?
In addition and as i can't post there, is there any risks with trying root like posted here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460 ?
Can i harm my device so i will not be able to use it?
Can i root my tf300 with it too?
And just of curiosity, how can i check if my bootloader is open? (I had problems upgrade my Xperia S to ICS and someone told me that maybe it happened because my bootloader is open).
Thanks.
I only use root to increase my battery life combined with SetCPU to set governors and profiles that my give you a couple of more hours of usage.
Other uses is to delete bloatware apps, that is, stuff that comes on stock Sony ROMs, apps that are only there to bother you, or eat your battery and or space.
It's definitively not like Cydia if you think it's the same. From my limited knowledge root grants you permissions that are otherwise locked.
You won't harm your device if you use it. And if you do, you can always recover your device using Sony Update Service.

You can tweak the performance of your android device, faster scrolling, smoother ui, you can overclock your android device for much smoother gaming.
If you have a locked bootloader, you can update/fix your phone using SUS or PC Companion, there will be an error if you try to fix your phone via SUS or PC companion if you have an unlocked bootloader.

Well, i had a problem upgrading to ICS with pc,companion, i started the upgrade and in the middle i got an error that i couldn't get out of it, all the time i tried i couldn't complete the upgrade and my phone was didn't work and was stuck on the sony logo.
I managed to solve it just with SUS after almost got a heart attack
Don't know why i had it.
Anyway now all works but I'm afraid to do anything....
Regarding the root, like your and DrKrFfXx explanation, i guess i don't need root as I'm quite happy with how the phone is working.
One thing I'm missing is the option to do a restart without need to close and open the phone,
Regarding the root process mentioned in that post, i want to know if i can harm my device if i will do it like brick my phone.
I have no problem rooting my devices. I can say it because I rooted my Xperia Live with walkman, Xperia Play, Motorola Xoom, and Xperia S. And until now there is no problem.

It will not brick your device. It "may" harm your device if you overuse ocerclocking. But rooting itself will not harm your device.

I meant if it can be bricked in the process of rooting.
it looks very easy to root in that post, like all it almost all automatic and what I'm afraid is that something will go wrong and will brick my device.

Don't worry mate, It won't brick your device, and if there is a remote possibility of bricking your device, it won't be a hard brick, just a soft-undo-able-brick.

Read my friend read. There are multiple threads with the instructions on getting root with a locked bootloader. but life is so much easier with it unlocked.
[NUT]'s posts are a good place to start, and the guides at the top od this section

I'll come over to your house and we'll get it rooted. Just joking and I must say there is a lot of outdated info even in the stickies. It took me a lot longer than it should to figure out what was currently correct.
