WIFI issues, new device - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hello wondering if anyone can help.
Bought the device yesterday, galaxy player 5.0
The only way I can connect to the wifi is if I disable WEP and have the router open.
When I use WIFI, either from the cell phone or my home WIFI using WEP, the device is stuck in obtaining IP address, as soon as I remove the WEP and have the router open, it connects.
None of my other devices have this issue, only this one.
Any ideas?
or
Should I return it?
Thanks.

I found that if my router was broadcasting its SSID my 5 would connect, if it was hiding the SSID it would not (just sat there searching for IP). Maybe that's the problem?

Mine has problem too on my belkin54g (open config), connect and disconnection all the time pretty annoying, i really hope there will come a fix out from samsung since it came with 2.3.5 update....

Thanks!!!
Thanks guys got it working.
Changed password on the router and did a reset to it.
Seems that did the trick.
Almost returned the player.
And the worst is that I had already installed a shield for the screen, 15 bucks!!!
Anyway, thanks for the response!!!

Hidden SSID need patch for YP-G70
Just install HiddenSSID Enabler from market, it'll work for YP-G70. You need run it once and get your hidden wifi connected, then can uninstall it. Looks like it is just a patch but really works.

I was under the impression you could use a hidden SSID under stock 2.3.5. Under Wifi Settings, there is the "Add Wi-Fi network" option, and it looks like it can be used for hidden SSIDs.

No, it won't work coz hidden SSID not supported by GB.

Try using WPA instead of WEP. WEP is ancient, and some newer wifi chipsets don't interoperate well with it because it's so old and it's been HIGHLY recommended to ditch it on routers for at least 5 years. WEP was known to be insecure almost a decade ago!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like I remember reading a few years ago that hidden ssid's were not part of the 802.11 b,g, or n specifications. I thought that while a lot of devices had that function, it wasn't exactly "compliant".

Yes, that's true. I haven't seen any android smartphone on GB (don't know what's in ICS) can connect hidden SSID unless apply the hidden SSID Enabler patch. However, iphone / ipod has no problem.

I am constantly losing my connection with wifi, i got samsung galaxy player s wifi 3.6

wifi disconnect/reconnect fixed
On my 4.0 US, the wifi would disconnect and reconnect constantly. To fix it, go to ur network (on windows go to start and click network or type in ur IP address) and go to LAN settings. Change the dhcp lease time to 2 weeks or anything bit forever. It resolved my issue completely

Ugh...Wifi Issue (Yes I read EVERY wifi post) Bounty for fix!

Ok, I have read every single thread (to my knowledge) about the Wifi Connect Issue. I have tried all the manual tricks (changing router settings / channels / changed SSID / passwords / Security / reset router to factory / airplane mode / factory reset on GTab, etc) and STILL can NOT connect my GTab to home router.
I CAN connect it to my Galaxy S Vibrant Mobile AP Wireless, I can also connect every other device to my Router without issue. (Vibrant / Nook Color / Archos 70 IT / Wireless Printer, etc)
I'd be happy to toss a donation tip to whoever can help me with this...it's truly EFFIN frustrating. I can get speeds of 12-15MB/s on all my other devices off the router wireless connection. With the GTab I'm just stuck in a cycle of "Obtaining IP Address...Connecting...Obtaining...yadda effin yadda"
Running VEGAn-Tab 5.1
BTW - bought it earlier tonight...totally lovin this thing, beastly! Compared with my 4 other Android Devices, it's nutz! Thanks to all of your great info and ROMs!

I wish...heh heh. Nah, I've changed / reset SSID and Password multiple times as well. Definately not the issue. Woulda been funny tho...kinda like when you get a call in tech support, and ask "Is it plugged in?" lmao
Is your security WEP? I believe the Viewsonic only understands WPA.

The usual stuff...Wi-Fi toggle / Network Notification toggle / Add wifi network
Once toggled on...several networks show up...including my Router Connection
So network and and gtab wireless are working.
Has to be a setting somewhere thats off.
Changed everything again...even matched the settings exactly the same as the settings on my Android Phone...no luck.

Yep...that too. Beginning to think GTab doesn't like my router. I have a Belkin N1 Router if anyone else has the same and could advise.
Try flashing pershoot's latest kernel. It has a VERY updated wifi driver.

Only other thing I can think of is wacked out router, or maybe some mac filtering, upnp, or other "helpful" crap on the router that is causing it to not connect. I don't own any Belkin devices. I stick to Linksys or D-Link...
Sorry, man...
Have you tried connecting to a different wireless network? (sorry if this was already suggested.) Coffee house or any other company with free wireless, maybe at your job?

Connects to my girlfriends belkn n600. But thats a brand new router just installed last night. 69 at best buy
Couple of thoughts:
you may just have a defect. it happens. can't hurt to return for another one
not sure what type of router you have, but most if not all allow you to look at the event log. from there you should be able to tell why it's not being assigned an address (i.e. p/w wrong, range not avail, etc)
is your router restricting the type of access? (i.e. "b" but not "g" or "n")
didn't see in earlier posts, but have you been able to connect to any wifi networks? (i.e. public ones, or a mobile device's hotspot)
1) Is your router set to only serve out a small number of IP addresses via DHCP? Perhaps the available IPs have been used by other devices
2) I know you did a factory reset, but make sure MAC filtering is not turned on. Not sure what the Belkin defaults to but should be off unless you want to add the MACs manually to the whitelist.
3) If your SSID is showing up in the Wireless list on your GTablet, try deleting it (long press, then Forget) and then re-add it...You may have "cached" some old settings from your previous configurations...

Lost WiFi at home

I have recently lost my signal from my WiFi at home but my phone still picks up the WiFi signals from the neighbors. I exchanged my first 3d for a new one but I still have the same problem. My ipod still picks up and uses the WiFi signal and was wondering if anybody knew why this maybe happening.
Thanks,

Try resetting your router. Or try updating the firmware of the router. Also try forgetting the network in wifi settings and then try logging back in. Or do a factory wipe.
Locked & Loaded
just turn wifi on and off, no biggie, works pretty well.
Check out WiFi Fixer in the app market. Solved all of my problems.
Whoa, before you do all that other stuff.
So your ipod works with your router? And your phone connects to your neighbor's router? If so then most likely your router isn't a problem, nor is your phone.
Android's wifi stack does a really good job of automagically connecting to the best available wifi spot. Do you see your wifi router in the Wifi settings? If so, long press and connect to it. If you have authentication set, then it will prompt you for a password.
Let's start with that then go with more, if needed, and will probably need more information that you provide.
My phone doesn't even see my WiFi connection, it can see all the other connections only... I've traded my phone in not only for this problem but other problems and this problem still looms. I'm thinking its in my settings that were transferred from my other phone? I don't know, help please...

Man its might be your router. Have ya even tried just resetting the router back to factory defaults??? Its a tiny pin size hole on the back of your router "or at least it.should be" Henceforth, find a needle or safety pin and press the that button for like 10 or 15 seconds and wailt 2 to 4 min. After that go to your wifi settings on your phone and click on your network name and chose forget. Now look for your new network name and which should be an open and unsecured network. It should have the manufacturing abbreviation in the network name so if its say a belkin it might be -belkin123 unsecured- also it should be open because when you reset the router it erases all of the security. Also routers firmware should always be upgrade. Not saying this will solve your issue but it might and its a really quick way to rule out if its your router.
Locked & Loaded
Some of the "perm-temp" root scripts caused this, if you used some of the older ones, you may be experiencing this.
The solution to it was to "forget" all your wifi connections on the phone, power it off/battery pull, then reconnect.
Of course, if this doesn't fit your scenario, disregard.

X10 wifi SCANNING - DISCONNECTED loop! HELP!

Router information: Linksys Wireless-N WRT120N
I have done everything that i could think of to get this working. i have done several google searches and they all say to do specific things.
For example:
-Reset router
-Enable B/G only or G only set at channel 11
-turn off router firewall settings
-and a bunch of other random sh*t
i have done all of the above then some and i still cant get it to connect. all i get is *scanning* then *disconnected* thats the only two things it says. except right after i reset the router. every time i reset the router i get * obtaining IP yadadada* then goes to *disconnected* then back to the "scanning, disconnected" loop.
there have been some people that have said flashing a custom firmware on the router would fix the issue with mobile connectivity on Wireless-N routers.
please someone be helpful with this and please dont tell me i need to reset my router. i have asked this same question on several forums and the only replies i get are "if you reset the router and turn off security it WILL work fine" thats bull****. im not an idiot. thats the first step any computer literate person would take before asking questions.
**Update: same as from General thread. i had to repost because it was closed for some reason there. also here are the answers to the other two guys to responded.
"not standing close enough" -i have been standing next to it. i have yet to test it more than 10 feet away lol so it cant be there
"flash another rom or reflash current rom" -it has nothing to do with my rom, kernal, or radio. this issue is also happening on my girlfriends xperia running Wolfxperia and mine is the blackeditionHDv2. its also an issue with her sisters xperia. hers is still stock 2.2(i think). their stepdad has an iphone and it wont connect with that either. from what ive gathered... its a mobile issue. i know all these phones say (b or g only) but even setting the router to broadcast in b/g it still wont connect. it notices the routers name with full strength on all devices. also i might add that their laptop is an older laptop. does not support N but still can connect to the router and have internet.
Same here. Xperia mini x10 pro. When on it says connecting even thought I nothing appear visible.

any idea on how i can solve this?
I'm guessing this is an ip issue. The mobile devices are not able to get one. This usually happens to me on a public network and I even get a " limited or no connectivity".
The work around I do is to assign a static ip on my phone. Its very simple to do and if you need help doing it, let me know.
There's no clear explanation I can tell you, but it seems some mobile devices have a hard time pulling ip's from different types of routers. Hope this helps.

Will ask my gf to give it a try. It happened so abruptly, it was working fine when she was at col then when she came back it won't detect any wifi, whether it's her house or mine, and now that she is back at her col she still can't connect.
I know how you feel.
I have had this issue ever since I first upgraded to Stock 2.3.3 last July. On 1.6 and 2.1 (both stock also) I never had issues.
Basically, in my case, resetting the router DOES solve the problem, but only for a limited time. This limited time is random, as sometimes it will work for a few days, and then sometimes it will cut out a few hours again after I have reset my router. I am also using the static IP method (and an app called WiFi Stat which I initially thought had solved the problem, but it hasn't) I'm not sure what triggers the WiFi connection to be lost, but there must be a trigger. Like I said, I never had this issue in my previous old Android versions.
I had hoped (somewhat naively) that moving to a custom ROM would solve the issue, but after installing Wolf's latest ROM, I still have this issue.
Have you tried anything based on 2.3.4 or above, to see if this is an Android 2.3.3 issue? Are there any good ROMs people could recommend that are based on higher versions than 2.3.3?
WEP/WPA key issue?
If its not the kernel/ROM/version of the phone, it could have something to do with the way the security is set up for your router. I had the most frustrating time logging into my university's wireless (think it was encrypted with 802.1x EAP) which required username and password. Though most home-owned router are equipped with WPA/WPA2 PSK or WEP, you can try the steps below:
1. Go to Settings ->Wi-Fi Settings -> Add Wi-Fi network
2. Type in the network SSID (yeah this is the manual part)
3. Open the "Security" drop-down box and set the following:
Security: 802.1x EAP
EAP method: PEAP (default)
Phase 2 auth.: MSCHAPV2
CA cert.: leave unchanged
User cert.: leave unchanged
4. Type in username (if any) and password.
Once again, this would work 99% for 802.1x...not sure about WPA/WEP. Good luck!
Try Channel 6 in router option and hope it works.
Solve
setting a static ip doesnt seem to work.. any idea? i wish not to re-flash as i dun think that would be a permanent solution.
again i dun think it has anything to do with my router as other gadgets are able to connect with it and i didnt fiddle with the security.
It is unable to detect any router as i have tried it different hotspots.
Hope to get some help.
------------------------------------
I wipe clear the settings and it worked again.. hope the problem doesn't persist again.

[SOLUTION] Samsung Galaxy S wifi 5.0 and big problem with wifi

My model is YP-G70 , firmware 2.3.5 on original updated stock rom.
My wifi working very well when I used with my others device (HTC Desire, Nook Color and PC) but with my awesome Samsung Player...
Every some minute the player drop the wifi line and after 1/2 second reconnect.
And i loose my download
Incredible.
I turn off Juicedefender, I 've setup the wifi property "Wifi sleep policy" with NEVER, I turn on KeepWifi Service (app) but.. NOTHING.
Do you have some advice?
Help...
I had the same issue when I bought my US model. But I only had the issue with my home wifi and not anywhere else. Can you connect at another location and see if you have the same issue? I ended up just replacing my old Belkin router and haven't had an issue since.

Try installing KeepWifi, see if that works. Otherwise it could be your router configuration, like the kind of encryption you use for your wifi password. Try to reset your router but don't use any password for a little while, if that works, use another encryption method.

Thanks for the advice...
I will try, but tomorrow I 'll be in another "wifi area" so with another router...
Solution
I've changed the "Client Lease Time" in my dhcp server (ddrwrt) from 0 to 99999 minutes.
It's working end I don't know why
I read this solution in an old XDA item of this forum. Thanks!!!
Hi
I have the same problem with my G70. For to have the max signal in the device i need to go beside my router. I have try with other router but the problem is the same.
maybe is only the display animation in the screen? I say that because i check the quality of my signal at it tell me GOOD.
im also having this problem on my I9003.
the wifi sleep policy has a bug.
some say that your Security/password should be WPA or WPA 2, they said this happens on WPA-secured routers, i haven't confirmed it though.
the only temporary solution for this is to disconnect or turn off the wifi in your phone settings and turning it on again, then you can connect again.
Due to the ROM,i think.Because wifi on 2.2.1(mine is YP-G1) functions great
Dose G70 have a ROM of 2.2.1?If so,you can try it yourself if you like
well i found a fix for this bug, just download the latest version of WiFi fixer from the Play Store.
that's the easiest way to fix this wifi sleep bug.
Hello, I am having the same problem, but I suspect my situation is worse. I've even tried the wifi fixer app, but my 5.0 drops wifi and breaks large downloads and games that require constant connection.
Do I have a defective unit? Any advice and help would be much appreciated.
Solution! (for me at least) go into your router settings on ur PC and change the lease time to either Forever or 30 minutes ( I can't remember which one). It worked for me... good luck

I had this wifi problem with 2.3.5 it was really annoying . Even if i was a meter from the router the signal sometimes dropped to 1 line. Samsung fixed this problem with the 2.3.6 update, and now the signal is ok.

Not the best solution, but....
I have the same problem that happens with my SGP 5, my friend's IPAD, and the Actiontec Router that Verizon supplies with their FIOS service.
I've tried every other remedy that I can find with no success.
The only solution that works for me is to assign a static IP address to the devices. It results in a very solid and stable connection in both cases.
Hope this helps someone else !!
Thank you all for the advice, but nothing seems to work, and I have no idea how to force it to upgrade the os from 2.3.5.
I don't know what to do now short of sending it to Samsung for service.

Download from samfirmware (or anywhere else) the XXKPL firmware. If you are 5.0 international, simply flash it with Odin. US users must make a new tar with just the "factoryfs.rfs" in it and flash it with Odin. That will upgrade you to 2.3.6. However, if you do that, I strongly recommend installing one of the custom kernels, so it won't be impossible to root.

this is so frustrating!!!!!
Are you sure the second device extends the main access point and not just create a new WLAN?
Have you updated the firmware of both devices?
What devices do you have?
Am I understanding correctly that your laptop does work even though both Android devices don't (before you reboot the extender)?
Nope...its not creating another wireless lan... it extends the main plan correctly cause my laptop connects perfectly to the Wi-Fi from the extender even prior to the restart of the extender....

Dynamic would be the friendliest to work with... you could try if it's a DHCP issue by setting a fixed IP when the problem occurs, but I don't think it is.
This is not a problem with the phone(s)....is with the router config. Contact the manufacturer for further assistance...

If you got a router and a range extender, there's nothing you need to fiddle with because the range extender will just Relay DHCP requests between client and master router.
Two routers* pushing out IP addresses is a no go, there will be a conflict in your scenario, and all range extenders will of course take this into account.
If you had two "real" routers*, it would still be possible to set everything up, although then there's a lot to take into account.
* Router is a inaccurate term used for the consumer grade combination devices. They're in fact a router, a switch, and a wireless access point bundled in a neat package. Sometimes with a xDSL modem or something on the external interface of the router.
Try setting the IP to static and more important, try giving it a default gateway to the routers IP. That should make it easy for your phone to directly look for the gateway it is looking for.

I have three routers, one main, one extender, one repeater (creating a whole new network for other building). Both main and repeater are the same network. All is config as per DD-WRT documentation. All three have latest DD-WRT.
After trying many things, all I can say is the (or mine at least) S3 always has trouble when many APs are nearby. I don't use VOIP because of that (it could disconnect at any time).
Next step on my list is to have 3 different SSIDs (only two now) and try using tasker to debounce the wifi switching (if that is even possible).
