SFM 3.0 and Root access - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed SFM 3.0 [as per instructions] and have not been able to get root access for Titanium back-up, which means I lost root access.
How do I re-gain it without going into recovery, wiping, and installing another rom?
Thanks.

this also happened to me, its a common problem with this rom.
go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317368
scroll down to where it says superuser installation and click on the link and download the file.
then obviously place file on sd card and boot into recovery and install it (i dont think you need to do a factory reset or wipe cache or anything like that)
then just make sure you have the latest superuser from the market and then everything should be fine

little help

Hello
i need some help... i live in israel..
i just bought samsung galaxy s2 and i want to root it...the problem is i just cant find the right kernel.. my phone kernel is JHKJ1
i have searched for like an 2 hours without success..so if someone could help me i will be grateful.
I think you should flash it with the stock rom (first step) which has rooted kernel (second step). use odin. don't use ICS rom.
Root with this,its a KJ1 CF-Root kernel
http://download.chainfire.eu/47/CF-Root/SGS2/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v4.4-CWM4.zip
You can find out why here.

dude thanks a lot!!!!
you really helped me... you are the king..
but may i just ask..what does the superuser do?
does it gives me some special things?..coz i have now on my phone CMW and superuser but when i log in to the superuser it gives me only apps --> CMW..
and thats all... does it right?
CWM is the recovery on your phone, used for flashing ROMs, clearing cache and various other advanced features.
Superuser is used to allow or deny a given app ROOT access, and also to keep a log of when those privelages have been granted.

Yeah mate all explained. One of the things that you need to know about the CWM app is that it has the function to make a nandroid backup. This is a backup of your complete firmware as it is now on your phone, contacts, kernel, apps, everything. What this does is makes a backup for you to use if something ever went wrong while doing a flash then all you need to do is enter into revcovery mode and restore the backup and your will be exactly as it is right now.I suggest you do one to have a backup handy.Never know when you might need one.You can delete and create new ones as you go.
1.Open CWM app (give it permissions of course)
2.Select "Backup"
3..Select "Accept"
4..Select,if asked, "int.SD" (this is your internalSD.Sometimes externalSD backups dont register when you need them)
Now it will do a backup and you can reopen the CWM app and see it by selecting Delete or Restore. As you go collecting more apps and so on you can delete and create new ones.If for some reason your phone blows out you can restore the latest backup made by entering in CWM app or if you have done something really bad then by holding Volume up+Home+Power to enter into recovery mode.A good app to download now is Titanium backup. It also backs up all apps and data so if you ever flash a ROM you can pass the apps+data to the new ROM.
Before installing Titanium install busybox.Dont forget to give these apps root permission.Install from market, open and install only busybox. The Apps no.

Titanium is good because you can uninstall system app from your carrier that you dont want that annoy you

[Q] Titanium Backup not working on ICSSGS RC4.2

I just installed ICSSGS RC4.2 but I seem to have partial root access, or just have an issue with Titanium Backup. When I start Titanium Backup, it gives an error that it could not acquire root privileges. I checked, and I do have the superuser app, so it seems that I should have root access. I installed File Manager and I am able to browse the root directory and open files in the root directory (such as boot.txt). I don't know if this is a valid test for root access though. I don't know what Titanium is trying to do when it determines that it does not have root access. When I check Superuser, it does not have any apps listed. When I check preferences, it is set to prompt me when an app asks for root access.
Here is how I ended up on ICSSGS RC4.2:
- I was running Bionix for the past several months and definitely was rooted at that point!
- I ODIN'd to stock
- I installed CM7
- I then installed Passion ICS and was definitely rooted at that point
- I decided to try ICSSGS at that point so I did a wipe data, wipe cache, dalvik cache wipe and then installed ICSSGS
- I rebooted and played around in ICSSGS for a while but never tried Titanium yet. I then flashed ICS_Kiss_v5.1_CWM.zip kernel and ICS_GPS_FILES.TEST2.zip based on several posts in the ICSSGS topic in the developers forum to get GPS working.
- Now I have tried Titanium backup for the first time and am getting the root issue
I'm thinking that doing something like re-rooting with SuperOneClick is probably not a good idea. I suppose, it wouldn't hurt to flash a different kernel and see what I have, but I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my problem. I'd like to avoid a complete reinstall if possible since I have already spent time customizing things after finding that I like this ROM. I have never flashed the same ROM right on top of the existing one, so I'm not sure if the install script would end up wiping out my installed apps and app/system settings.

TI has been acting funny for me as well.Recently I flashed a theme including apps and the market updater apk updated my market,So I tried freezing that app and said it did it but it did not.I had to rename the app .bak ...You might have to wipe dalvik and cache only and reflash 4.2..It wont wipe your rom settings and installed app, just the system apps
I reflashed 4.2 and it started working again (Titanium was able to get root access). I flashed KISS 5.1 and it broke again. After experimenting, it breaks with Kiss 4.1 and SubZero 1.0.1 kernels too. Once it breaks, I tried to update the SU Binary through the superuser app, and that fails on the gaining root access step too.
I think I'll give Euphoria a try next.

my phone gets root access from pre-rooted custom roms. when i first rooted my phone i used super one click. after switching from comfortstock rom v3 to adrenaline rom, i still get the superuser icon. however, i am unable to directly delete files using root explorer, copy or even move files from and into system app. when i look into init.d folder, i am unable to see permissions. in titanium, i cant see the memory usage for a2sd. what can i do to get it back?
Reflash the rom......
You know you are rooted when you use XDA more than FB

I already tried reflashing. However, perhaps there was something i did wrong. I did not do all wipes and stuff. Let me try reflashing it again. One more question, when I do restore via titanium, should i restore system apps and its settings? Maybe thats where I got this error from.
EDIT: all wipes, data, cache and dalvik, reflashed rom. was able to regain super user permissions. thanks all for the help. though still unable to see a2sd usage on titanium. but all is good.

[Q] Root Question

So I have the HTC Evo 4G LTE and i upgraded to the 3.16 update. Ran QBKING77's root and unlock method and everything worked great, my question is, i was using the phone and ran my backup of titanium and after i did that it said that i lost root access, so i did the twrp recovery (2.4.1) and reset the phone to right after the unlock, i deleted the titanium backup i had and downloaded all my apps and settings again manually, If i use Root checker basic (one with a white background and hashtag with a green checkmark) it says i have root access, if i use Root Checker (with blue android) it says i do not, if i try to use titanium backup it says i do not have root, but every other root program i have works fine and says i have root access, ROM Toolbox Pro works just fine...how do i get Titanium Backup to work???
edit- this is the error i get with titanium backup: sorry, i could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted, and try again. This attempt was made using the "/system/xbin/su" command
What rom are you on?? Also you can try to update your su app from within the app or flash the su zip found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
to see if it will resolve the issue. Also what version of titanium backup are you using? You should have the option to hit the problems button and download a reliable version of busy box from within the titanium backup app. If not and your running a stock rom then download busybox from the play store, install latest ver and see if it helps.

Have you checked if Super SU is granting titanium backup root access?
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
Download busybox from the play store, run the app and get latest ver of busy box, clear data on tb, reboot, and see if you still get the error. If so try flashing the su zip from the link. If that's a no go I'd recommend backing up your data via other apps, making a nand & flashing a stock rooted rom.

It says it has access, says grant, but now the root checker basic i was using says i do not have access, restarting to see if i can change it, when i start SuperuserSU, it say i need to update the binaries and when i hit ok, it says installing and then operation failed and starts the program. As well, anything that has been granted access, a little black popup shell shows at the bottom of the screen real quick saying that super setcpu has been granted root access for the interactive shell?
I have tried two versions of busybox, busybox free which tells me there was a problem opening a shell with root access and then closes and i tried busybox installer which says device is rooted but when i hit install it says that instillation failed.
Im on the stock rom from the 3.16 update, everything i have read is that i would not be able to flash a rom because of compatibility issues and i the 3.16RUU is not available for download anywhere..and just FYI, still fairly new to rooting, but learning!
Thanks
Thanks 72, I flashed the SU Update 1.04 from your link and its working perfect now, good to go...take care. Hopefully it stays rooted!

Need help for KingRoot to supersu

Okay so last night I went ahead and downgraded the phone back 4.4.4 and waited for the update. I got on 5.1.1 stock file. I then went ahead and rooted the phone with KingRoot. But I have come to find that I like supersu better and was wondering if there is anyway that I can switch the two. Thanks all for any help.

Because you're on Kingroot, go ahead and install XZDualRecovery, and flash my prerooted zip file. It has SuperSU and some nice enhancements so you won't have to worry about a thing.
for avoiding losing of your data, you can backup your data using twrp and download tigerhoods twrp backup 5.1.1 in thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/.../twrpbackup5-1-1-23-4-b-0-319-rooted-t3331193 and add your data files in that backup and flash. Enjoy.... hit thanks
Edit : thanks tigerhoodsfor backup

I believe that's redundant since you will just be overwriting your data once you use Tigerhoods' backup. Not to diss him by any chance, but his ROM is missing some important parts of the framework which makes some functions buggy.
It is a lot more safer and easier to flash my zip for a cleaner start.

I went ahead and tried the file that was posted in post. #3 and it looks like it just took off king root and didn't replace it with anything. I tested my phone to see if it was rooted with root checker and it said that it wasn't. So now I'm guessing that I will have to root the device again with king root to get the root back. Thanks all

If you want stabilization and SuperSU installed, just follow my guide to install the prerooted flashable zip I prepared that is the best solution to your dilemma. It's really simple without needing to do any unroot and such.
I have to back everything up and then try and flash that rom. Or I guess I could try and root the phone again and see if that works. I'll let you all know. Thanks.
