ONLY point IS backup, restore your stock rom
Cheers.

Hey man, I have followed your guide to root my friends Neo V and it works! I successfully rooted the phone. There is one problem though, upon installing ClockWorkMod Recovery, I can't seem to see a message that it's successfully installed? See attachment. After that when I am trying to browse for a ROM in ROM manager it still prompt for a CWM recovery for install, and I can't even see the device Neo V in there? I really can't figure it out.
Thanks.

rom manager wont recognize our CWM , to check if you've installed CWM correctly , switch off your phone ,switch it on and start pressing the volume down button repeatedly untill you see CWM.

[STARTERS GUIDE] Help for Newbies| Flashtool | Rooting | Unlocking Bootloader | CWM Recovery Installation | Nandroid backup
Here is very user friendly guide for newbies/starters for rooting, unlocking the bootloader, setting up Clock Work Mod recovery, performing a nandroid backup
Please say thank you and leave feedback if you find this guide useful.
XPERIA P

ROOTING
Android rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones, tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control (known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.
As Android was derived from the Linux kernel, rooting an Android device is similar in practice to accessing administrative permissions on Linux.
In simple words you are allowed to change android system yourself according to your need like deleting apps, installing system apps, installing CWM recovery etc..
STEPS:
Check your phone software/firmware number by going to settings>about phone>build number
If you are on any GB firmware use flashtool guide in second post
If you are on ICS firmware (6.1.B.0.544 or 6.1.B.0.550 or 6.1.B.0.559) ,then
Download Rooting tool by Bin4ry from here
Extract it using 7zip/Winrar etc.
Double click the RunMe.bat and select 1. i.e normal phone option
Backup and restore app will open
Select RootMe.tar and click on restore
Follow instructions and bongo you are rooted :victory:
If you are on ICS firmware version (6.1.1.B.1.54 or 6.1.1.B.1.75), then
Download flashtool from official flashtool website
Install it on your PC using onscreen instructions. It will create a folder "Flashtool" in your drive(C\Flastool)
Now go to C\Flastool\drivers\flastool-drivers.exe and click on it and install it after marking/checking "xperia p,xperia u,xperia sola drivers" which is below there on the list
Download the file from here-
Now copy the files "Xperia P LT22_6.1.1.B.1.54_Kernel.ftf" , "Xperia P LT22_6.1.B.0.599_Kernel.ftf" and "Xperia P LT22_6.1.1.B.0.75_Kernel.ft and paste them in "C\Flastool\Firmwares" in PC.
Now keep "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry-XP" folder in the dekstop as it is.
Now for your SXP.Go to 'settings>developer options>USB Debugging">'mark/check this option
Open flashtool from PC.
Click on the "flash" icon of the flashtool which is on the left side of the iconic tab(below the 'file' option-it's like a lightning sign).a window will be opened Mode Selector.Check "FlashMode" and press "ok" button.
You will see "Xperia P LT22 version 6.1.B.0.599" on the options.single click on that .uncheck "exclude kernel" (on the right side) and check "no final verification" and press the "ok" button.
A window will be opened saying to connect your device.switch off your phone for 30 secs.now connect the USB cable to PC(not on your device).now press down the vol.down button and hold it while connecting the USB to your phone.[now the flashtool will start flashing.but if you are doing for the first time sometimes the drivers are not able to detect the drivers of your phone and the phone starts charging in a normal way instead of flashing.don't worry.Disconnect the USB from phone only.wait for 10-20 secs.repeat from step v again and then connect your device while pressing vol.down button.the flashtool will detect your device and start flashing.)
You will be able to see percentage below.after it is finished it will be written there.disconnect USB cable from your phone only after watching it.
Restart your phone.
Go to your dekstop on PC.open the "Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry-XP" folder.
Click on "RunMe.bat" .a commend promt window will open on your PC.
now write only "1" (Normal Phone) in the "Make a choice" section
it should be like this.
Make a choice : 1 [Hit enter then]
It will promt to connect your device in debugging mode.Connect the USB to your phone with debugging mode turned on.now the Command Promt Window will do its work and it will say to you to open your "backup and restore" app.
Get your phone in your hand.open "app drawer>back up & restore" and hit the "restore" button.
The phone will be restarted in a while.
now you will see "super user" or "superSU" app on your app drawer.that means your phone is ROOTED successfully.
Restart your device again.(just for being safe)
Phone is rooted but the kernel is of previous version 6.1.B.0.599.So we have to reflash "6.1.1.B.1.54_Kernel.ftf" or 6.1.1.B.1.75_Kernel.ftf to the phone using Flashtool again.
Open flastool.watch step v and do the same.but select the "Xperia P LT22 version 6.1.1.B.1.54" or "6.1.1.B.1.75_Kernel.ftf"option instead of the previous ".599".now check and uncheck as the same before and flash your device pressing "ok" button.
Disconnect the phone.FINISHED.
Enjoy Rooting

Unlocking bootloader
Unlocking your bootloader allows you to flash a custom kernel i.e. kernel made by some developer rather than the stock SONY kernel.
Flashing custom kernels allows you to flash CUSTOM ROMS like Cyanogenmod ROMS which have very vast features and user experience with imporoved performance, features and battery life.
Note: Unlocking Bootloader of Xperia P Will Void It’s Warranty Provided By The Manufacturer (Warranty Can Be Retained By Relocking The Same).
But DRM keys are lost forever if you unlock your bootloader i.e. some apps like TrackID, download mucis info in walkman app etc. doesn't work and also you would not get any OTA firmware update after you unlock your bootloader and also if you relock afterward
STEPS:
Firstly Get & Note Down IMEI Code of Your Device. It can be Obtained by Dialing *#06#in Phone Dialer.
Charge Your Phone upto 60% Battery Level So As To Ensure That It Doesn’t Turn Off During The Process of Bootloader Unlocking.
Temporarily Disable Your PC’s Antivirus Software As This Might Interrupt The Process.
By Assuming That You’ve Followed The Essential Steps Mentioned Above, You Can Now Move To The Further Part Of The Article Where Will Check on How To Unlock Bootloader of Xperia P.
Procedure To Unlock Bootloader of Sony Xperia P LT22i :

Once Drivers Get Installed, Disconnect Xperia P From PC & Power On It.
Step 2 : Unlocking Bootloader of Xperia P
Before Unlocking Bootloader, You Need To Check That if Your Device’s Bootloader Can Be Unlocked Or Not. For Checking Bootloader Status Dial *#*#7378423#*#* From Phone Dialer To Access Service Menu.Find Bootloader Unlock Status Over There. If It is Set To Yes Then Only You Can Unlock Your Device’s Bootloader Otherwise It’s Impossible To Unlock It.
After Verifying Bootloader Unlock Status Set To Yes, Go To Sony’s Official Bootloader Unlocking Site : http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com.
Scroll To The Bottom of The Page & Press Continue.
You Will be Prompted With The Message “Are You Sure ?”. Accept It By Clicking On “Yes I Am Sure”.(Assuming That You’ve Read It Properly). Then Accept The Legal Terms.

Hello I'm stock rom 6.1.1.B.1.54 locked bootloader having some things unclear about this:
1. Can I flash custom ROMs wth locked bootloader? If not, what happens if I try to? Do I brickwall my phone? Is it recoverable?
2. Can I still flash other stock ROM (for example .75) with locked bootloader?
3. What's the difference between flashing custom ROM via CWM and via Flashtool?
4. Do I always before flashing new ROM have to clear data? Do this wipe all installed apps and settings?
5. If flashing new rom wipes everything, will I be able to restore all apps&settings from full Titanium backup?

Sorry for late reply
1. It depends upon the ROM you flashing.. Some ROMS need custom kernel i.e bootloader unlocked and some can run on stock kernel.. So check the ROM requirements before you flash it... If u flash ROM that requires unlocked bootloader and you flash it on locked bootloader you will end in a bootloop
2. Stock ROMS (stock based ROMS) can be flashed on locked bootloader
3.Flashtool will flash Orignal firmware (Stock firmware from sony) i.e ftf file... And through CWM you can flash ROMS i.e *.zip files
4. Yes it is recommended to clear data (it will delete all apps and settings)... But also check ROM installation procedure some may not require to clear data. If you are flashing stock firmware (ftf file) using flashtool you can uncheck wipe data to preserve you data.
5. Yes you can use titanium backup to backup and restore apps anytime on any ROM or firmware
Great, thanks for explaining

Tutorial: Un-Bricking Padfone 2 (and possibly other android devices)

Earlier today I bricked my Padfone 2 by installing 3rd part font. After a reboot to apply the changes, it got to the boot logo but never any further.
I got it up and running again, :victory: and to those out there in same or similar situation, here's a tutorial on what I did:
Before we start, there's a few things you need;
1.1 Latest ADB version (I used 1.0.31) [ATTACHED]
1.2 Latest Fastboot version [ATTACHED]
1.3 CWM Recovery [ATTACHED]
1.4 Latest ASUS USB Drivers (available from ASUS Support site) [ATTACHED]
1.5 Padfone 2 Firmware (available from ASUS Support site)
*** NOTE: For ease of use, place extract and place all of the above to the same folder.
*** NOTE: Inside the Padfone 2 Firmware ZIP file, there's another ZIP file. This is the one we need! The one I used was called "WWE_A68-10.4.15.1-0-ota-user.zip"
*** NOTE: This method does not install CWM Recovery on your phone, it only boots it temporarily.
If you have all of the above, continue to step 2;
2.1 Booting your Padfone 2 into Fastboot mode
2.2 Press and hold Power + Volume up buttons
In Fastboot mode, connect your phone to your computer and launch cmd. Wait for windows to install necessary drivers if needed.
3.1 Navigate your CMD to the folder containing ADB, Fastboot and CWM Recovery (recovery.img)
3.2 In CMD type:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
In the CWM Recovery on your phone, select the option titled "Install ZIP from sideload".
Use the volume keys to navigate and select by pressing the power button.
4.1 In CMD, transfer the Padfone 2 Firmware by typing
Code:
adb sideload [firmware-file-name.zip]
- Example from my case, I wrote:
Code:
adb sideload WWE_A68-10.4.15.1-0-ota-user.zip
4.2 When it is done, you'll be presented with CWM Recovery's screen again, select "Reboot system now".
4.3 CWM Recovery will present you with a warning saying: "ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?" - Select "NO".
If you are experiencing problems with driver installation, you can fix it manually. If windows installed the drivers correctly, skip this step. To solve this, go to device manager by entering the Start menu, right-click Computer and select “Manage”. Select the Device Manager.
You should see a failed device named A68. Right-click it and select “Update device software”
Select “Browse my computer for driver software”
Select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”
Select “Have Disk”
Now browse and navigate to the folder you extracted your ASUS USB Drivers to and select the file named “android_winusb.inf”
Select “ASUS Android ADB Interface” and install.
All done! You should have a working Padfone 2 again!
Please note that you may need to root your phone again.

As far as I know, the QHSUSB_DLOAD error is hardware related and cannot be fixed by normal means. I believe it requires some special hardware or flash tool or something.
You could try manually installing the Asus USB drivers by following the last step and see if that works?
In any case, the tutorial only fixes software based issues.
Mine got totally bricked some time ago. Somehow the mainboard was fried and needed replacement.
It didn't react in any way when trying to power it on. If i plugged in the charger, it would get pancake-making hot!
Asus dispatched a UPS guy to pick it up and send it for repair. When the mainboard is fried like mine was, they can't tell if it were rooted or not, so they had to repair it.
All in all, I had a great experience with ASUS warranty

Yes, bootloader is unlocked
Yes, adb sideload is working via CWM but tried it with the latest firmware update (WWE_A68-10.4.17.7-0-ota-user.zip) from asus.com after renaming the file to "WWE.zip" for shorter cmd lines
Anything else needs to be checked?

Tried that at the very beginning.
That issue has started after I installed GPS Status - Test and Fix https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cochibo.gpsstatus&hl=en as part of getting a better GPS performance I have reset GPS and then Get Xtra data but after restarting, it never loaded the system. I hope this helps identifying the issue
I might try this way as a final try

I wouldn't recommend doing an SKU conversion. There might be (not sure) a slight difference in hardware in the different areas. I know products sold in China sometimes aren't up to spec with the rest of the world in order to keep prices down and sales up, for an example.
So if the voltage settings are a little off in comparison to your hardware, it might get fried.
That being said, your issue is a weird one. It sounds like software malfunction, easily solvable with a reset or sideloading firmware, forcing me to wonder if your device have been flashed with a different SKU or, perhaps, have a hardware malfunction.
For now all I can come up with is; repeat the process. Give it reasonable time to boot up, 10 mins. should be more than enough. If there's still no progress, enter recovery and clear the cache and try booting up again.
Otherwise I'm stumped.
Might be time to consider the RMA option?
A lot of Padfone 2's are born with a eMMC fault - so it could be related?
Fixed, wipe data partition (from stock recovery ONLY) what an intermittent issue
Thanks..... it was wery usefull
There's another way to un-brick.
The first day I received my Padfone 2, after only 6 hours I got it really badly bricked. No button combination would work, all I got was "invalid kernel"
On Modaco there's a thread http://www.modaco.com/topic/365818-padfone-2-invalid-kernel/?p=2191432 that worked very well, even a self-proclaimed noob as myself could finally get it together. It was amazing as I thought I had to send the Phone back to Germany (from Portugal)
For those who prefer the German language: http://www.android-hilfe.de/asus-padfone-2-forum/531509-bricked-invalid-kernel-2.html
credits go to Paul O'brien and manu7irl who posted this solution on MoDaCo and Vakilando on Android-Hilfe who inspired me to give it a second try.

You are confusing bootloader with CWM based recovery.
Unlocked bootloader only means you can install custom kernels not made by Sony.
To have CWM recovery you will need to either, install a stock based custom kernel which already includes the recovery, or root your phone and install recovery.
Good u got me
yeah u r right i am confused becoz i am new to this phone.
oh ! i have JB 4.1.2 so its from sony and my phone is not rooted & cant Boot into that menu is it Right !!!
i also try UnlockRoot Pro software but it Fails to Root My device it reach to 50% & then show fail message ... ???

You can root with DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit and then install CWM from CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2 for Locked Bootloader.
This CWM recovery has a glitch which won't indicate charging while phone is off. I have fix for Xperia P but it can only be installed if you did not attempt to install that one.
Or
You can flash custom stock based kernel, you can find a few in Xperia P Android Development.
Do you have PC Companion installed?
I have Pc Companion & also install that tool DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit i run it press any key & it install script i think it root my phone then i Run UnlockRoot Pro & Press Root & this Time it Works now its says Root Success !!!

Start PC Companion repair and wait untill it asks you to turn off the phone and connect it in flash mode (colume down ahile connecting the USB)
At this stage stop PCC and exit it.
Download flashtool and create firmware FTF as expalin here.
This is just to have a backup firmware in case you need it
Try to install my modified CWM for Xepria P. You only need to press volume down once when the notification LED turn on gray.
If you already installed the other CWM I've linked to do not attempt to install this one.

Yes you must install recovery or a kernel that has one built into it to have recovery.
On our Xperia devices it's pressing the volume down key after powering up. Some CWM implementations has LED indication when to press it so one time is enough, other that do not have LED indication you need to press every second or two untill CWM comes up.
Thanks !
Today i learn some basics from u, Thanks very much Time to Sleep

Actually, if you plug the USB cable CWM will prepare to boot too so you can boot CWM before it switch to charger, once it switch to charger you won't be able to start CWM unless you disconnect the USB cable first.

No need for PMs, just quote or mention me in your post and I'll know you replied.
I don't understand exactly what are you trying to do.
To enter CWM Recovery you need to press the volume down key every second or two after powering up the phone and the Sony logo shows up.
To flash firmware with flashtool you need to press volume down while connecting the phone to the USB while the phone is off.
I would advise against flashing abother formware, at least untill you learn a bit more.
Also, before flashing anything start repair your phone with PC Companion, and then when it ask to power off the phone stop and exit, then create firmware FTF file from PCC files as explained in this article to make sure you have the right firmware for your phone in case something bad happen,
Your bootloader is unlocked so PCC and SUS would not flash it, be prepared.

Can i use same method for Sony Xperia P which i have used for my HTC Desire if Yes
Where can i find that files in .zip so i just copy them to internal memory and install firmawre easily !!!
Why would you want to install it at all if it's not newer than yours and you don't have any problem?
FTF files can be flashed with flahtool only.
Custom flashable ROM zip files are falshed using CWM Recovery.

Wjen it first came out it came with GB, mine came with ICS,
You can search for FTF that is compatible with your region or a world one, and flash it with flashtool.
Look for 6.1.1.B.1.75 or 6.1.1.B.1.54, .54 has the 8MP flash bug(not all the picture iluminated)
Exclude TA when flashing if it exist in the file.
That make me confused some came with ICS some with GingerBread
i think i have internal version.
i am from Pakistan . i think here all phones are internal version some i also saw T-Mobile,AT&T etc in 2nd Hand market but in New all are international versions.
Here is my phone pic attached !!! :highfive:

I'm searching a way to recover my forever-looping phone. I had the Android M, got the horribel ideia of using kingroot via PC and now the phone does not go to the OS. I've tried everything, I´m gonna try installing all drivers again (windows 10). Anyway, What can I do since I dont have recovery mode ?
Plus, when I try to flash a fresh rom, I get this;

Ok bro. just come down we can solve it by two ways:
The first one by unlocking your bootloader then install recovery then flash a new rom through recovery.
The second way is to keep the bootloader locked and recover your phone by using flashtool and any ftf for xperia z2
So which way from the two ways you want to solve your phone by it?

If the bootloader unlocked so you can easily flash recovery by using fastboot commands by using these steps:
1- download and install Minimal ADB and Fastboot from this link: https://mega.nz/#!7942XJjI!9gurv7k3PVVFT8VViDbkg_sUiRTiDPeArhwjXsG XB9c
2- Download and install Flashtool drivers from this link: http://doomlord.xperia-files.com/download.php?dlid=Rmxhc2h0b29sLWRyaXZlcnMtMS41LTIwMTQwMzE4
Skip Step 2 if you already installed Flashtool Drivers that install with Flashtool if you have installed it.
3- Download the latest twrp recovery from this link: https://dl.twrp.me/sirius/twrp-3.0.2-0-sirius.img.html
4- Move the twrp recovery that you have downloaded in step 3 to this Path C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot
5- put your phone in fastboot mode by this way >> (Power off your phone completely then wait for 10 second then press and hold the volume up then connect your phone to the computer with usb cable while you are pressing and holding the volume up then the led will change it's color to blue.. that is the fastboot mode)
6- Now go to the Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder in that path (C:\Program Files\Minimal ADB and Fastboot) Press shift button from keyboard then press right click form mouse while pressing the shift button you will find an option [Open command window here] Press it.
7- In the command window write this command exactly: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-0-sirius.img
8- After it flashed successfully reboot your phone by writing this command: fastboot reboot then unplug the usb from the phone
9- when the phone reboot and the sony logo appear keep pressing the volume up and down until the twrp recovery opens
10- That is it.. you can from it wipe data, system, cache, dalivk cache and flash any rom you want
After you successfully flash a recovery just tell me and i will help you in flashing a new rom through the recovery
This way works only if you have bootloader unlocked
I wish i had helped you

problems with Xpeira X ADB and Flashtool

Hi,
i have a problem with ADB drivers for the phone. i have downloaded it from Sony (Link:https://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-x-driver/) and install it like they said (by going in to device manager and manually installing it). after booting it to Fastboot, Flashtool says i have to install them from the drivers folder, which however, does not contain the Xperia X driver. Also, when selecting the Flashboot and Flashmode drivers, one installs but the other doesn't which is "Google, Inc, (WinUSB) Android UsbDeviceClass".
While in Fastboot, i tired to delete it, then update it using the download driver from Sony which failed to install. Also, in device manager it say something like S1 fastboot driver with a Waring symbol (it's not recognised), and upon checking in flashtool while in Fastboot, it says there is no ADB drivers installed, just Fastboot.
i have tried booting the phone with USB debugging and it does recognise it, but still doesn't work when booting to Fastboot.
BTW i am on Windows 10
any information would be useful.

thanks, just to confirm, by force install do you mean to download from sony and install within device manager, by 'adding legacy software' ?
if so, i have done that and the driver appears, and shows the following error:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
The specified request is not a valid operation for the target device.
Also, still and unrecognised 'S1 fastboot ' driver appeared when in Fastboot.
thank you again.

How to install ADB Xperia x
finally!!!
it's worked. Thanks for your help max26292 (although would have been nice to hear back but a huge thank you!)!
Here's what i did (not in the exact order though)
i used the instruction from Sony - http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiae3dual/kb/0231018805656b91c0145c620eeaf004cb9/(Not for the Xperia X though but usable) on how to install the Xperia driver, and after restarting the PC, Flashtool still didn't recognise while in Fastboot. Also, in device manage there, was a Waring sign next to it, and gave the error as mentioned previously. image is below of the sign.

I then installed the 15 seconds ADB from https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 ( i keptpressing Y) after a reboot and putting the phone in Fastboot, still Flashtool had the same messages about drivers, like i said in the first post.
i then tired out max26292's method, which there are images below to show the process. i put the phone in Fastboot, and where the warning sign was, NOT THE SAME PLACE AS THE IMAGE SHOWN ABOVE, rather where it said "S1Boot Fastboot" . using the steps you mentioned (THANKS ALOT BTW!) :
i right clicked on the s1 fastboot> clicked update driver> chose the second option - browse my computer>
the clicked on "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"> then browsed for the driver i'd already installed from Sony - the "Sony sa0114> kept clicking next, and yes to a warning message> restarted computer and BANG! it worked!
i however should mention that i did try to install the flashmode and fastboot driver from flashtool, but one of them failed to install - i have mentioned n my previous post, please refer back. so, you may want to do that, but i think the 15 seconds ADB will do it for you. also, i have not done commands so i can't test it out fully, bu when i do, i will let you know.
again i would like to thank everyone for your help, really appreciate it!
P.S. Please put a F U C K ING updated guide up Sony, T W A T s.

i have a problem with ADB drivers for the phone. i have downloaded it from Sony (Link:https://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-x-driver/) and install it like they said (by going in to device manager and manually installing it). after booting it to Fastboot, Flashtool says i have to install them from the drivers folder, which however, does not contain the Xperia X driver.

1. install XPERIA COMPANION
2. INSTALL FLASHTOOL (www.flashtool.net)
3. after installing flastool goto C:\Flashtool\drivers and you will find "Flashtool-drivers.exe" / run it and install from list "common fastboot drivers", "common flashmod drivers" and xperia z series with Xperia X series motherboard drivers.
windows 10 gives digital signature verification errors so you have to
Use the following steps to disable driver signature enforcement.
Click the Start menu and select Settings.
Click Update and Security.
Click on Recovery.
Click Restart now under Advanced Startup.
Click Troubleshoot.
Click Advanced options.
Click Startup Settings.
Click on Restart.
Click to collapse
then repeat point "3"
you should be ok
