OK..... As some of you know I own a deli/restaurant. We were broken into recently (no I don't have a security system and yes I'm a dope), luckily they only got us for $200-$300. I understand all of the obvious options we have for a system and I will be putting those in place asap.
Here's the thing.... there was no sign of forced entry. I have business partners (wasn't them) and 2 employees with keys (really don't think it was them) but possibly someone that knows any of the above got their key. None of that matters (my tiny brain will investigate that)....
Is there a security system or cams that could be linked to any of my android phones or tablets? If anyone knows of a system anything close to what I'm talking about, that would be really cool.
I'll be meeting with Time Warner and my wife just mentioned adt about a system but..... if I could any how have cams going to my tablets or phones that would be even more helpful, if it was an inside job.... and I hardly EVER think that way but there was no sign of forced entry. Also it happened the day of the Hurricane so the cops said anything outside with finger prints wouldn't show a thing.
Just saw something similar on the Nook Color forum and was wondering why I didn't ask this question to you guys the day it happened.
Money is somewhat of an option (as it is to most people) but having something feeding to my android devices would be priceless.
If this is an obvious answer please let this thread sink but if there is a way to have security running to my phones or tablets please speak up.

Everfocus brand dvr systems have a free app called mobile focus, links in to dvr for realtime, also supports ptz over WiFi, 3g, or 4G... I've installed tons of them

any suggestions for those that want the wireless route of camera? where I want to mount mine I wont have any existing cabeling for video and even getting power to it is gonna be tricky.
Really want remote viewing control on phone, recording dvr either onsite or in the cloud. most seem to be hardline cameras still except for the IP cameras which dont work with most typical dvr's ive seen at first glance. I know they make transmitters to convert the wired camera to wireless but thats adds a ton of clutter too as ones ive seen are bulky.
Try logitech alert 750e on Google.

I hate geovision dvr cards, but they have an android app finally. Most systems can be viewed from a web browser, but you'll want to make sure that there is an app for them as it makes viewing the video remotely much easier.
If you don't want to worry about finding an app for a specific brand go with wireless cameras. Don't get the kind that need a base unit. Get some that can be linked to a wireless router. You can then setup an existing computer to record the video or get a new computer dedicated for just this. Since each camera uses its own up address you can use one of the many ip camera apps in the market.
If you need help with anything send me a pm. I do camera installs and repair as a side job.

Let me talk to my business partners and wife tonight or tomorrow morning and I'll shoot you a pm after I talk to them. This seems to be a fairly cheap option w/out monthly fees or a base. I also have a sneaky suspicion that maybe someone is going in after we close and eating or feeding their friends and family like kings.
I work 7 days a week and close the business quite a few of the days. Sometimes I get a gut feeling that things weren't the wah they were when I left the night before. Soooo..... If I could be watching my business at night while yucking it up on xda, that's a win/win.

I don't have any information for you, but just want to show my sympathy toward your situation. It would be terrible if someone you trusted with the keys was doing it or even giving the key to their friends to do it. I am a Union Committeeman at the shop I work at and I just had to sit in with a maintenance man of ours while he got fired for stealing from the company. He was using his key to come in after hours and stealing copper wire and brass fittings and taking them to the scrap yard for money. The Plant manager was suspicious that it was an inside job and took pictures of the cars and people he suspected and took them down to the local scrap yard. They identified the guy and his car and even gave him a copy of the invoice he signed himself(dumbass). He lost a decent job over $76. There was nothing the Union could do to fight it because he was basically caught red handed. The Plant Manager gave him the option to either resign his position on the spot, or he could try to fight it and he would get the cops involved. He admitted doing it and resigned. Anyway, I hope you can catch whoever is doing it. I hope it's not the people you have trusted with keys, but it just sounds strange to me that there are no signs of forced entry. It may cost you now to install a camera system, but will save you $ in the long run. Good Luck bro.

Thanks! I tried doing a little detective work myself but lead me nowhere. They got me for the $100 bucks I leave in the till everynight to start the next day with and got my change box (roughly $200) where I keep all my rolled quarters, dimes etc to make change for the register ( this is where my detective work came in) . I went to a local change for dollars machine vendor but so many people use those daily (including myself when our home change cup gets full) that it would be impossible. I went to local stores and told them to keep an eye on anyone paying with rolled change. That's about the extent of my detective abilities. If I knew any crack dealers they would be the first ones I would ask if anyone's has been buying crack with rolled quarters (haha) .
As for food possibly missing at night is weighing heavy on my mind due to the whole trust issue when you hand a key to your business to someone you trust. I really don't think its anyone with the keys but maybe someone they know grabbing the key while they're sleeping or whatever.

As I posted in the accessories section of the forum, I promised my brain injured son a netbook or tablet for his birthday. (The injury was to his right brain and his left brain is normal.) He will be 37 on Friday, but in a lot of ways he functions around 4 to 7 years old. And he loves to play Angry Birds on my HTC EVO View.
The director of his adult day care program and I talked at length about it. We came to the mutual conclusion that giving him a tablet is extremely risky. It has to be a 7" tablet with a Gorilla Glass screen and a battery that is not removable. I will be driving to Best Buy to pick up the Flyer they are holding for me as soon as I finish typing this.
In addition to my concerns about physically protecting it, I also need to make sure he can only go to a few appropriate websites and not get into things like the market or change it's settings.
Advice would be appreciated.
there are apps on the market that will set passwords on the apps you choose so they are locked
Honestly, wait for the kindle fire tablet. It has a more closed system. Wont have the full market, and has been touted as kid friendly. Take a look, might work for your needs.
Thanks for the replies. As I said in the Accessories forum, we were on our way to Best Buy this afternoon when he told me he would rather have $50 to spend on anything he wants at Toys R Us instead of a tablet. So I'm off the hook, at least for the moment.
With 15 grandkids to buy Christmas presents for, not having to spend the money right now makes me pretty happy. Perhaps when it comes out, the Kindle Fire might be a better choice. It's pretty much a sure thing a tablet will be on his list for Santa...
My 5 year old uses my tablet a lot and I installed an app called Seal that blocks him from the Market, Settings, Email, and a variety of other apps I don't want him using. It is pretty cool! Also, if you download the Market app in the Flyer forums, under Settings, you can specify a password for paid apps. Seal is better because it just completely blocks Market and other apps....
The Flyer has a built-in "Kid Mode" app that can do what you need. The latest version of Kid Mode (available in the Android Market) allows you to choose a set of apps (like Angry Birds) that your child can have access to, while blocking access to the rest of the system.
Kid mode is the best bet I use it as well. My two year old daughter plays this Dora game and backyardigans all the time on my tablet. Kid mode locks everything else up except for the certain games I allow her to play

Now we all know that social networking has become a big thing in the past few years. Even more so now that there are apps all over the place that all do the same exact thing. Which is connect you with other people around the world, but what if you want to talk with someone a bit closer?
Everywhere you look there are people on their cell phones, whether it be android based or not. However what if your little people shy and want to strike up a conversation with someone? Especially if their tied up on their phone it makes it tough to bring up a random conversation. What if there was a way to kind of interrupt them and impress them at the same time?
For instance what if your friends dragged you to a bar, bars aren't your thing and you'd rather be at home playing games on your computer or just tearing apart the latest gizmo that you got. Well you happen to notice a girl on the other side of the bar that seems rather nerdy herself that got dragged by her friends and would rather pay more attention to her phone than the drunk guys trying to hit on her.. Obviously going over and saying hi isn't really an option as she'd likely just ignore you like she's done to the rest of the guys, cause your just another drunken idiot that wants to get in her pants (at least thats whats she'd think)..
Wouldn't it be a bit more interesting to say send a message to her phone even tho you don't know her, don't know her number, and know nothing about her.. However it'd get her attention if she got a popup that said "Hi, I can't help but notice your bored.. Me too."
Now this may or may not be possible, as I don't know a damn thing about the android nor hacking it. However I remember back in the day of high school me and a few friends during certain times of the day would go to the same computers in school, and since we knew the IP's of those computers we could send messages back and forth between each other cause they either A didn't disable windows messaging, or we had to turn it on.. We'd screw around with others in the library by sending a mass net send to all computers saying "Your computer has been infected!" then shutting them all down remotely..
Would there be a way to do such a proposal? If so anyone up to the challenge? Cause really how amazing would it be to just open up a new way to talk to those around you.
iOS had something I saw that almost kinda does this (at least I think) called sonar.me yet I don't know if android does..

I was thinking that if there was a way to utilize the push notifications.. Tho the question would be how to detect said device.. If they were on the same wifi as you that'd be easier.. Even through bluetooth, tho does bluetooth still transmit even when your not allowing it to be seen?
What about the possibility of just through the phone airways.. I mean they could be sitting there online with their phone anyway to intercept that..

Hey man, already thing this is a great idea. Although your scenario doesn't quite mesh with me as I am just as "geeky" in the world of pick-up as what I am in Android nerdi-ology haha (what I mean is I would have no issues going over there and sparking up conversation if shes geeky or not...although geeky would make it easier - bar easy!). Anyway I think that is a great idea. It would be ok if it was an app. Not just you sending a notification to their phone.
I was using message in a bottle for a while. Random and cool. But did not narrow to close proximity nor anything like your proposing.
I think there maybe privacy issues for push notifications being intrusive, but if someone elected for use via an app then they agree to accept notifications I think this would be ok.
I have wanted to have this sort of thing when I was on the train travelling home. I have even caught the eye of some random hottie down the isle and wanted to see if I could somehow contact her. I have scanned bluetooth and even tried to push a picture to someone thinking it could be her *thinks to self "hmm she kinda looks like a Jessica and she has a Nokia N95...bugger it send image to Jessica's N95" caching haha. So yeah I get what you mean .....walking up to someone on a train the environment (although sometimes is expected there is a level of acceptable human behavior there in) is not the place to be attempting to pick-up in dead silence with ears in close proximity eves dropping like all hell in comparison to say a night club/bar/outside area where people are sparse and/or conversation is not easily over heard. *NB: I have attempted (and passing the fear if she is confident and there has been an acceptable level of "eye-sex" or "eye-flirting" with smiles before hand) I won't get flagged off easy. If she is not confident....your pick-up interjection and sudden realisation of overh-hearing ears (eves droppers) can land even the best pick-up artist in a pickle and the shut-down is an even bigger tumble to say the least.
It's ok to get shut down in a bar where people can't hear very well, try getting shut down on a deadly silent train haha being snappy fast whitty and able to promptly deliver a negate to her clear cutting shut down is another subject all together. Being able to do it in a funny way may win you more laughs than her shut down too (geeeze I am going waaaaay off track from Android Nerd to Pick-nerd aren't I? wow I diversed big time! haha ) Aside from that I have been successful in picking up chicks on the train without this technology....but this sort of technology would only leverage a man's capability even more so.

Well see thats the thing, sometimes girls just don't to be bothered, so how would you get their attention even for a small chat? If the girl was tech suave it could lead to an interesting topic of discussion on "How did you do that?". They have tons of chat apps that allow you to talk to complete strangers, but these people often are all over the world..
I like the things like the Nintendo DS, or even a Cybiko (if you even know what that is.. =D ) were it has a wireless chat feature where the room is just there and anyone in the area with the same device can just join in. The problem with the Nintendo DS is how often are you in a bar with one? Even the Cybiko (which is super old and was like a young tech kid's playtoy from like 2000) is that no one had it so its not like you could go out to a public area and have people join in on those chat channels.
I've seen apps that claim to do this, but they really don't, as its still over the internet instead of your local area..
Hell the closest thing that would almost be like this scenario would be hosting a open wireless connection that anyone could connect to, hosting an irc server on that network and having people connect to that server, which is quite a hastle for any one person to do just for an interesting way to chat..
Tho I agree with the whole privacy issue thing, I knew that'd probably be the case.. What if there was an app that your an that whenever someone came within your vicinity it would pop up saying "So and So has entered your area" and allowed you to click on their name and start saying hi..
Like I said in my first post there was sonar.me for ios, that kinda synced all the social networking sites to see who was in the same place you are. Supposedly it also allowed you to chat with the people that were also in your area. That would be kinda interesting..

Recently there's been talks about piracy on Android and how developers seem to shy away from it and produce games for iOS. That's actually the reason why developers of Infinite Blade refuses to port the game to Android. I've recently gotten the chance to speak with the creative director Matt Small of Vector Unit (Riptide GP). In this interview he talks about piracy and how its equal on both sides of the os. You guys really think its that bad? In truth when GTA 3 came out today someone already posted the apk on this forums mere hours it showed up in the market.

Piracy is always present in some form and amount on all devices. Windows Phone for example is pretty much closed platform, thus very unsuccessful to make bigger impact on the market. There is always "awareness" in big % of the consumers that think that piracy is bad and illegal, so software market is never that hurt. Some polls says that no platform has piracy more than a 10% (except PC of course), so it is not an issue and reason for someone not to port a good game on all the platforms. PC market is the biggest on the planet, so bigger amount of piracy is actually lower in numbers comparing to the others (more than 1.3 Bilion people are using Windows).
Piracy happens on iOS too. It just takes slightly longer, but every paid app that's worth getting gets pirated sooner or later.
The attitudes towards piracy on iOS versus Android are what I find most interesting though. When I was on iOS, pirating expensive apps was almost chic. It was talked about openly on some sites and seriously everyone I knew with an iPhone had stuff like sinful and hackulous in their Cydia repos. Now that I'm on Android, the online community is all about supporting the devs and pirating is looked down upon (at least openly).
Oh yes there is plenty of piracy going around in the android community. I've been doing some "research" on this topic and have discovered sites like Applanet, Blapkmarket, Snappzmarket, etc. Thrive in third party distribution of both free and paid apps. Though it is frowned upon in the general android population, i understand the people that use these sites when it comes down to not being able to spend hard earned money on overpriced apps in this ridiculous economy. (Not saying i support them, i just understand). Maybe we can make a compromise one day, who knows?

Pirated apps arenpirated for one main reason. To install some sort malware or keylogger onto your phone. Use a pirated app and enjoy what it brings.
As for apps not being ported because of it is just a cop out. It is everywhere no matter what OS it is.
There is one additional unpleasant thing in market. In some stores (not android market) people steal applications, changes its name (without changing application itself), after that they sell it from their name.

''Freemium" or pay to play games is a great alternatives, but is in the brink of oversaturation. Its great that we receive games for free, but the micro transaction will only hurt if every single developer jumps in. I'm sure most will charge you for small ridiculous trinkets.
Take a look at Blood and Glory for example. Great gameplay and graphics. But almost impossible to play without purchasing something. I'd rather pay full price just to have everything available. Its breaks immersion when your trying to play and a box pops out asking you a dollar to unlock a level. Game developers should give us an option for a full game.Sad to see vector unit thinking of going that route.

I don't get it. Why not just install the free versions and deal with the ads? It's not that expensive to pay for the full app, not most apps anyways? I think pirating apps is more of an "because I can" and less of an "I can't afford it."
The worst is buying an app that receives no updates , becomes obselete and then just sits in your app list forever.....

But equally, when you put the word "open" in open source, this is something google should have been prepared for. They even give the tools for piraters to pirate files. For example, if I'm rooted and know a package name of an APK, then all I have to do is adb pull the file, and upload it. It is sad that people go out and pirate games because it does discourage devs, but they know the wolves are in the den ahead before they walk into the forest. Apple is jailbreakable, but that takes for-freaking-ever, webOS is now open source, so its gonna have some miiiinor issues, and Windows basically hits the idea of open source with a giant middle finger, so it is horrible, but its one of those things you don't have a choice to do but accept.!

Ok, here I go....I'm sure I'll get mega-flamed for this but..I don't care. I pirate. Alot. Why? Because I'm poor. Seriously. I feel like, its not fair that only those that have money get to enjoy everything. Typically, if an app is good and really proves itself useful, I will eventually buy it when I'm able. Same goes for PC software, movies, music, etc. Why the hell would I wanna waste money I don't have on something that turns out to be worthless crap. And furthermore, the rights holders that seem to ***** the most tend to be (typically but not always) those that are most well off. I'm sorry, but I don't feel bad because I didn't put another dollar in some rich [email protected]%k's pocket. Like I said, if its worthy, I'll eventually buy it. I have paid for all the must have paid apps that I use for rooting my phone and tweaking it etc. Which brings me to another point, the fact that so many seem to believe that the rooting community as a whole only root so we can pirate...pure BS. As someone who admits to pirating, I root my phone for the pure and simple reason of installing custom ROMS and tweaking my phone. I can do all the pirating I want on my PC, I don't need my phone for that. I do try to support devs that provide quality and useful apps, because I know they are working hard to try and earn a buck, just like me...but all the rich conglomerates can kiss my @ss. If I had plenty of money, I wouldn't pirate...honestly, what would be the point? But I don't. So for now I'm just a little dog trying to enjoy myself in world made for big dogs. And that's considered a crime...that's a crying shame.
And on a side note, I'm really not trying to be offensive, just being honest...
I can get any app i want on my iphone for free if I were so inclinded.

Yeah, same here. I'm running an AOSP based ROM now, so it's not going to send anything to LG. But I don't want to support a company with ethics like that.
I don't doubt for a second that LG do this on their phones, but I also don't doubt for a second that everyone else do too. These days tracking and spying seems like the norm.
Its not that did it on purpose, its more of a bug. And just becuase its happening to their smart tvs doesnt mean its happing to their phones, 2 different divisions of a company. Its not like the tv and mobile divisions have the same software engineers.

Exactly. I really don't see what the huge problem is. They are basically putting cookies on your TV, but obviously, in this case, the information was being sent to LG's servers to be compiled. Everyone does it, hell XDA shows me ads for something on Amazon I just looked up minutes ago.
I understand, that snooping on your network is a bit much just to reccomend shows and choose advertisements, but it's not like you can't stop it. Simply put your TV on your guest network. Boom. Done. No more access to other devices on your network.
It's not like other manufacturers aren't doing similar. Samsung TVs mine a ton of data. In addition, the models with cameras, can actually watch you. In some instances, it will be used to make sure you don't have more than the allowed amount of people watching an on demand event or streaming rental, but it can also be used to count people in the room, whether they're male or female, and whether or not they are being engaged by what's on the screen be it ads or media. This hasn't stopped them from being the number 1 TV manufacturer.
As for phones, Apple and Samsung have both been caught logging locations and taking pictures of it's users and that hasn't stopped them from being the number 1 and 2 smartphone manufacturers. On top of that, they aren't the only one's digging through your phone for data.

Um, no. The ability has existed on the last 2 model runs, it just wasn't implemented, just tested. It was due to studios wanting to make sure that people weren't having a too many people watching at one time. It's a form of copyright protection. You can watch a movie at home with a bunch of friends no problem, but streaming a movie for say your church, is a big no-no. At that point they want you to pay them like a theater would. Using it for advertisements is fairly new and that didn't really ruffle too many feathers until Microsoft's kinect. The new kinect is making waves again because it can even measure your heartbeat. Businesses would love to find out what kind of ads get your heart racing.
It is not a bug. Have you guys read the article? LG even confirms that it did that intentionally to better viewing experiences and enhance advertisement viewing. The 2nd part about it trolling your network and pulling information from everything it finds, and sending it off to LG, was supposed to be from an unfinished feature that was never implemented. Funny how they made sure it grabbed your information and successfully transmitted it back to their servers.
They are going to get in a LOT of trouble for this. I can honestly see them getting heavily sued. Not only were they stealing personal information without consent but also using up your personal bandwidth and invading your private viewing habits.
My dad is one that I'm sure will be severely affected. He is getting older and growing intensely paranoid to do anything. He used to work for HP and now is petrified to go out doors half the time. He disables his WiFi just because he fears someone hacking his network. Unfortunately he just bought a new Smart LG TV like last year. Now he's going to be afraid to watch the damn TV.
Yea you can say, well just turn off the WiFi or unplug the Ethernet... but someone who is paranoid like him doesn't think like that. His response will be, well they'll just code it to automatically turn WiFi on in the middle of the night for 30 minutes or whatever, then turn it back off when its done scouring his files.
It seems trivial to most people but this seriously effects some. The fact that HP SPECIFICALLY coded these things to do these tasks is appalling. This is NOT a bug. When you enable the Privacy Settings, all it does it flag the information as "privacy enabled" yet still sends it.
Very scary stuff. LG stole your information and sold it to the highest bidder. This will and should be a lawsuit. Companies shouldn't be allowed to profit from unwilling customers, especially when they specifically opted out. The fact that it also scans your internal network is also a HUGE compromise, both security and privacy.

If you live in the states I do not understand why complain. Your government has been spying on you guys since day 1 you were born. There is no more privacy anywhere you go in the world now. Unless you live in one of those third world countries, but in that case you would not have smart tv because there would be no wifi and stuff.
The government has a track on everyone. The only way is to stop using phones, computers, tablets, anything that has access to location and internet. Anything that accesses an IP address...no way to hide from them. Like it or not, that's the world we live in.

I just noticed it. Anyone else see it? I have to take a screen recording video and snip pics to catch it.

It's a built in spy software!
Seriously though, it's a gesture feature that you selected in settings. It detects your eyes and prevents the screen from turning off just before your screen time out.
Yea that's what it is. On the Verizon model, we have the traditional vertical settings menu and it doesn't have pictures.
I was testing the settings apk from the LG Flex and must've turned it on accidentally.
It was really starting to freak me out. That option doesn't work So well. It still times out.

Per phones, have a look at LG MLT. It isn't even new, been years in the making. Almost every manufacturer has this type of software, hell, even carriers in some instances... cough... carrier iq.
