Contacts-Calender sync - HTC Titan

Hey there,
since the WP7 is designed for sync between FB, Outlook, Phone adress book, calendar, Twitter aso I was really wondering how about sync between contacts of any source to the calendar?
The point in detail:
Wherever you got some contacts you add, put them manual in the phone, use facebook sync, why is there no sync to the calendar? I mean, honestly, what for do people add so many information in their contacts like especially their birthday. So why is there no function to add these birthdays with an alarm to the phone calendar? Imho it's quite stupid to have the information in the contact, but no alarm for the birthday - so you need to create a reminder for each contact you want again by manual. I'm quite sure NOBODY checks out the contact details for birthdays, so it is meaningless to put this information there anyway.
Is there any solution for this? Maybe another reminder application for reading the birthdays out of contact details?
Furthermore, wouldn't it be nice to have got a navi software that can directly find the adresses of contacts in the phonebook? I mean you cannot even copy paste them...I think since the outlook contacts use xml it shouldn't be so hard to be implemented. Furthermore so far I never see any navi software that has got more than just 20 favorites...
Thanks!

If you add your contacts to Windows live, then their b'days are actually displayed as whole day events in your calendar. It even shows up in the lock screen. In calendar settings there is an options to turn off Windows Live Birtday calendar. Hope this is what you were looking for.

re
ah I see, so you need windows live. Thanks for the advice!

Birthday reminders

Question:
After entering a birthday in the contact info, am I supposed to get a reminder on my calendar regarding that birthday?
Today my friend had a birthday. I didn't get any form of a reminder even though I entered his birthday in the contact info.
Kind of defeats the purpose for putting it in in the first place.
yeh I noticed that it doesn't appear in the calender too
You do get a reminder, but not in your calender.
If you scroll over to updates & events in your phone book then you will see the first 3 birthdays & any facebook notifications. Also about a week before the persons birthday their picture in the phone book list will show a 1 to let you know they have a event upcoming
Have you tried adding the "contacts' birthdays"-calendar in Google Calendar?

Tried that, but it does not seem to copy the birthday from facebook into the actual contact item in google.so it then never appears in the contacts birthday calendar. or at least, that's what it's doing on mine.
Would be nice if it added it to the calendar, but at least there in the people
You're right. I hope HTC makes it possible to sync information from facebook to google contacts. Would be nice if you got a notification telling you if someone changed their phone number/address/e-mail on facebook, and asking you if you wanted to apply the changes to contacts.
But, at least birthdays should be synced. I am considering manually adding all birthdays to my google contacts, as that at least gets them in the birthdays-calendar.

Where is this calendar? Come to think of it, not all my calendars that I see on Google Calendar on the web are showing on the device. Anyone got any ideas how to refresh the list of available calendars?
To have the birthday calendar sync from your gmail contacts you have to go to the google calendar web --> settings --> Browse public calendars --> add Contacts' birthdays and events.
It works great for me!
Is there any way to edit the "Contacts' birthdays and events" calendar from inside GoogleCalendar inside yor web browser so that the changes sync back to your contacts on an Android phone?
Not in googlecalendar web. Just Add the birthday to the contact in gmail or in your phone and it will apear in the calendar...
I've noticed that only birthdays are being added to the calendar. But I'd like to sync also other anniversaries.
I cannot see
I added the contacts and events calendar into my google calendar online and added a birthday to one of my contacts. That birthday appears in my online calendar but it not being synced to my phone.
I dont see the birthday in my calendar on my phone nor do I see it in the contact details on my phone.....why ?
I was experimenting with this today as well, and only managed to get it to sync the birthday contacts once; the ones that were already in my google contacts when I enabled it are visible, any new ones are never appearing however I try.
Edit:
Correction! After leaving it on for a night, I now see the changes! It just took a very very long time for the update to percolate to the phone, even if google calendar sees it properly.
Manual updates apparently make no difference...
I also managed to get the contact-calendar for birthdays to work. but the year of the birthday isn't showed, so I think the best way for me is to crate a recurring event in the personal google calendar with the actual birthday.

That or get android 2.0 from somewhere; since I hear it should support contacts birthdays. HTC even said that they will push 2.0 to the Hero, if you don't want to "hack" it. Of course, then you have to wait for them to get the SenseUI ported..

social phonebook

i have a quick question
how can i join contacts (skype, msn (if possible), gtalk, facebook( but keeping the names i have on my phonebook?
is annoying that it changes it
thanks
The only way I have found is to sync everything, then use ContactAnalyser2 from the market to merge them.
However you must also be aware that having data syncing from a lot of different places will slow your phone down massively and even cause the overheating problem mentioned in other threads.
I haven't found an MSN client to date that will sync. There is a Messenger Beta all doing the rounds but I don't know if that syncs either as it's in Chinese!

I do have the same issue with confusion and the different names, I'd like to suggest to Add Field as Nickname and put the name that matches the Social Network's one ... I think it might work.
Any other ideas to sort this out please elaborate.
I've done a weird route to organize my social phonebook, after some frustration with Yahoo contacts integration (you can't delete a yahoo contact through the phone for instance!). I went to my Yahoo page on PC and noticed they also sync the contacts with facebook or gmail, and it's a bit easier to organize and merge accounts through there, then i got back to my phone and updated contacts from yahoo and it's all looking nice.

Outlook 2010 syncing issues with HTC HD2

Hi All,
I have been searching the web this afternoon and cannot find any resolution to an issue I am having and its driving me bonkers.
I have recently upgraded to Office 2010 32bit (including Outlook) and within this there is a very clever "Birthdays" view of the calendar which appears to be separate to the normal calendar. So on the PC I can see all the birthdays as all day events. However when I sync with the phone it doesn't bring this information across!
I have tried just copying the bookings from that calendar into the "normal" calendar, but it errors. I presume this must be because they are not actual calendar entrys and just created on the fly.
I am syncing using Windows Mobile Device Center via USB to my phone.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated, as otherwise I am highly likely to miss birthdays as my memory is shocking!
Have you installed OutlookConnector.exe for synchronizing Outlook with Hotmail or GoogleMail?
Do a right mouse click on birthday calendar and choose options to see to which account your birthday calendar is connected to.
For me it is connected to my Hotmail account.
Birthday calendar is not a part of the Outlook file system which is synchronized with your device, sorry.
And again I'm sorry I can copy birthday calendar entries by drag and drop or copy/paste.
The birthday view is just a view. A way to present the information in the calendar.
Built-in apps on phones typically does not support a birthday view. You can look for Pocket Informant (which is now free on WM, but the link is not easy to find), which offers lots of different views.
Or just conduct a search on birthday.
Ah thanks for the responses guys. Yes you are correct its taking it from Hotmail for some reason! Also, slightly bizzarely I just tried again to copy the birthdays across and this time its working. Very wierd.
I will also check out that pocket informant you mentioned about, keeping them split seems good if I can manage that.

[Q] Exchange and Google

Please can anyone help, I have just changed from a HTC Desire to a Galaxy S2. I use Exchange server email, syncing Email,Contacts and calendar. Yesterday I put a new appiontment in the calendar and it never appeared on my PC Outlook account. After having a good look I noticed that in the calendar it has a G (for Google) next to the entry.
Please can anyone let me know how to stop anything to do with Contacts,Email and calendar going to Google.
I know I have to have a Google account for the Market, but that is the only reason I wish to use it, and even then I have google mail redirected automaticaly to my Outlook account.
Thanks
Sam
In fact things are worse than I thought, I turn off the Google Calendar and enter an appiontment it does not appear! However if I turn on the Google calendar it does!!!!
Please please let me know how to have only Exchnage as my primary source of Calendar!
When you create a task or an appointment on the phone, it should ask you where you want to create it - be sure to select your Exchange account.
Personally, in a similar position to you, I chose to pay for Touchdown for Exchange. There is a free trial so you'll get the chance to test it thoroughly. You have to keep some elements syncing with the default client in the background - contacts, if memory serves - but you can set Touchdown to be the default for calendar, email, tasks, etc, so it is a pretty seamless experience. I'd recommend it.
Thanks Gustopher, prblem sorted and will try Touchdown

Making the switch from Android to WP8 Lumia

Well I placed my order for my Lumia today! I am anxious to get it and take it for a spin. As a a previous HTC One X user I am curious if there are any tips for making the switch anyone could provide.

Yep, the only thing I would recommend, is to take a few minutes, or hours to arrange your contacts in your live account:
1. Delete contacts that you don't know
2.- Merge repeated contacts so ther is one contact with full information instead of multiple.
3.- Find on Internet how merge Facebook Calendar events on your live calendar (Very useful for events, and birthdays)
4.- If necessary, add manually, or via Office Outllok your current phone contacts to your live contacts. (Use outlook Connector to add your live account to Outlook, and edit your contacts from there, it much more easy and fast)
5.- If you do all the above steps you wont have to ever think about syncing or backing up contactas ever.
6.- If you add a Coporate Exchange account, contacts wont be merged or displayed on your contacts( that's cool, because most of the time, you dont even know that well of the people on your job) but if you have to write an email for example, you will be able to use your corporate adress book.
7.- If you want to add birthdays of people in your contacts list, don't make it through calendar, make it in the contact itself, so when you are reminded of an event or birthday you can write on facebook wall or text, or call directly from the calendar app.
Once you do that, it is really impressive how WP merge all your contacts from your different services ex: live, facebook, twitter, linkedin, etc, The very few contacts that aren't merged because for example you use nicknames or name abbreviations yo can merge with no hassle inside each contact.
If you do this, you are prepared for the best experience ever, because on the case of phone lost, or formatting or new phone you just input your live credentials and vualá you have your contacts, and calendar synced right away.
Besides that, you only have to find your favorites apps, taking in to you account that for example, facebook and twitter are already embedded in the operating system so they are not necessary.
Welcome to Windows Phone, it is an amazing experience
Excellent thanks!

These are good suggestions but probably not required.
When you add different accounts such as Hotmail, multiple Google accounts, Facebook etc, the contacts will all be merged if they share the same name. If not, you can still manually merge them on the phone. None of the information on the corresponding services is changed - only the way it is displayed on your phone. You can also un-merge certain contacts if you want to. You can also choose what contacts you want to see on the People hub - so for instance, you can turn off your Outlook (work) contacts.
The same is true for the calendars - you can choose which calendars to sync and which ones to show in the Calendar app.
I don't see a need to go through organizing everything online - can be a pain if you have hundreds of contacts.
In case of a lost phone, you still have all the data - just spread around on different services and it will be a breeze to set it up again.
Case in point: I have Hotmail, three Google accounts, Facebook and work email account set-up. Took me less than 5 mins to organize everything on the phone. I turned off Facebook and work email on my People hub - I don't want to see all those contacts.
Anybody else - if you have a different experience, please speak up. But I assure you syncing multiple contacts and calendars is a breeze.
