Asus refuses info on prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I contacted amazon to get info on my order and they told me that the prime was delayed due to technical issues so im tired of the rumor crap that asus keeps refusing is happening so I called asus and the lady said she didnt have any information so I asked who or which department will give me some info or I can speak to about this issue and she said no one...i said what does that mean she said...no one will speak to you on that matter mamm. I said that there's no one with asus that will speak to me regarding a product I am purchasing from them and she said that is correct...
now what tablet do you guys recommend?

The Asus Transformer Prime.

I recommend the iPad 2, because OF COURSE if you call Apple you'll get directed to someone who will answer questions about backordered and/or not-yet-shipping Apple products. Apple is absolutely, completely, perfectly transparent with their users and are happy to talk to ANYONE about future plans, ongoing issues, etc.
So, yes: iPad 2. Definitely.

Probably because Asus isn't deal with you, they are dealing with vendors, and you won't get any information unless you're a vendor.

I'm a CUSTOMER I'm more important than a vendor without "me" the customer they don't exist!!!

I wasn't asking for a ship date or anything I was trying to tell them another vendor was saying asus delayed due to technical issues I WAS TRYING TO HELP THEM!!!

Without ALL customers they don't exist. Without you? Eh, they'll be fine.
By the sound of your posts, I feel quite confident that you asked all of the right questions in all the right ways to make them want to help you in any way that they could. However, Asus is hellbent on losing every customer it has one at a time by conspiring to withhold any and all information related to or concerning the Transformer Prime.

Wow, people are really getting edgy with this whole situation with Transformer Prime.
Seriously, take a deep breath and just wait for the device to come. Its not like Asus is giving them away for free, you are paying the money and you will get it soon enough. If there is a delay, they will tell their distributors and retailers who will then relay the information to their customers..

Actually, ASUS doesn't sell directly to end users, so their customers ARE the retailers. That's who they're set up to deal with, and that's why you didn't get directed to anyone.

Funny thing is, even then you might not get a response. The retailers all have buyers who deal with ASUS, and they've probably established long ago that only those buyers should interact with ASUS directly. Nothing could create a flustercluck quicker than every store from a retail chain calling manufacturers asking about upcoming stocking levels and such.
I'm betting the Best Buy stores call Best Buy HQ, and then Best Buy HQ calls ASUS. The information is then passed back to the stores.

Not that I think I'm entitled to a product at 1/3 the cost of its manufacture, but the tease is getting old...
(Not to mention, I really want to know how other people keep beating me to the punch. Are there really people out there that waste more time on gadget blogs/XDA than me?)
Well, I got two before the store opened at $99, saw geeksquad outside, asked a guy about it, and he offered to sell me early. Got home and saw the pricing error, I really hope the guy doesn't get in trouble, but I got two. I feel bad but is was an honest mistake.
Got one before store opened as well. 99....guess I got lucky.

I've always wondered what the laws/courts specifically say about situations like this. While I understand that businesses shouldn't be held to honest mistakes. What if a typo or printing error meant a car dealer had to sell all his cars for $1, he would obviously go out of business if he was required to honor the advertisement.
On the other hand, somebody can definitely claim intentional false advertising or a bait-and-switch type thing. Get people to the store, then say "Ohhh, it was a mistake . . . but why don't you buy it anyway for full price while you're here?"
I was told that i will be given credit of $200 for price adjustment this morning. Hopefuly they carry through with it.
Otherwise, I'm prepared to pay the $300 like I agreed to in the beginning. I just hope they don't eff things over like they have a reputation for doing.
Just bought one for 99.99 from a best buy "vending machine" in the las vegas airport!
Pretty lucky if I do say so myself.
I got one as soon as the store opened. They honored the shelf price, then took down the $99 tag.
They canceled my online order .

No way. The Flyer is head and shoulders better than the Touchpad - no matter how good the Cyanogenmod group is, it will always be a hack. The Flyer is purebred Android through and through.

It depends on the applicable consumer protection laws--those usually differ from state to state (not that greatly) but it is general practice to honor the advertised price. There's mostly case law on it, but it's arguable to a point.
Contracts was so long ago ...
This, the Touchpad firesale and especially the Amazon Fire (250k orders in 5 days) send the industry (and hopefully HTC) a clear message: people want low priced tablets.
Exactly... they expected me to pay the same amount on the tablet as I did for my laptop, which can perform better in every single category (even in battery life).
(Acer 4820TG with SSD)
And who cares about the "iPad killer?" It pisses me off how many companies and review sites use Apple as the standard for everything. The only reason why they're successful is that they actually use common sense when designing their products and they come out with products BEFORE everyone else (which I think is kinda important).
Just make an attractive device without the iPad's price tag!

Yes, and compared to the Flyer, the Fire is a slower and limited device. Your get what you pay for
The Flyer is a fine device at $300. Any lower has to be a loss, based on quality and features of the device.

Having to honor the advertised price is what I would think, from what little I know about the consumer protection laws. But it seems this kind of thing happens all the time, where retailers state that an advertised price was an error. I'm on Newegg's email list, and it seems like every couple months they send out a message saying so-and-so price was an error, and they apologize, blah blah. It would seem that these retailers would be out of business, if they had to honor every advertised price that was a mistake. And the mistake might not even be theirs, but the fault of an ad agency, typo in newspaper, etc.
I wonder if promptly sending out a correction helps their case? Conventional wisdom (which of course does not always apply to the law!) would seem to dictate that making a conscious effort to quickly inform the public of the error, would help deflect any claims of intentional false advertising.
What's crazy us that if you look it up via the mobile app, it is still listed at $99. I have mine already, but seeing that price is tempting.

please stop trolling amazon reviews

I am seeing too many (obviously from you guys) reviews crying about a locked bootloader. That is not something to cry about. Asus never promised it to be unlocked. It doesn't detract from usability or experience. It's something that affects 1% of owners who want to void their warranties.
So stop trolling the reviews. Asus already gave in, you won. Deoccupy amazon now.

I wouldn't give it a 1 star rating but to me that is one of the most important things about a tablet/phone and they DON'T list it in the specs. I would give it a 3 of 5 rating most likely. Now, it is a 5 star. Go preach to someone else about how/if/when/why to leave a review on a product.

I agree. giving the prime a bad review over bootloaser being locked is dumb and unneccessary. Asus already said they will release an unlocking tool for poeple who want to do it themselves. Asus won't unlock it for security reasons n such. so at least they giving you the option to do it yourself, at the cost of voiding warranty though.

I agree. The Transformer series has been revolutionary so far, and you wouldn't want Asus to stop their fine work simply because of people complaining about bootloaders.
Reall you guys have nothing better to do then making fake shop reviews? Retards.
Every person has the right to review any product how they see fit. To many people the bootloader is important, and locked it different than ENCRYPTED and locked. On top of that, ASUS has not actually said what they mean by unlocking the bootloader and won't until (if) they actually release it.
This is important information about a device that I believe should be made upfront. I, for one, would find these reviews helpful as I would have liked to know before I bought mine. People that don't understand what a bootloader is will probably ignore it anyway. If they are going by an aggregated review score then they are not making an informed decision anyway. Welcome to the Inter-webs.
Kinda like knowing what kind of tires or batteries your car takes. Some people may not care, but if it means you have only one shop you can take it too it can affect your purchasing decision.
In any case, the bootloader issue is widely reported and has shown up on every Tech News site, Android Community forums, etc. So pointing your finger here is kinda of douchey. You do realize that there was an entire social media campaign about this right? I doubt the xda-developers are the sole Android developers that use Twitter, Facebook, Google+ or Amazon.
That said if I actually had an Amazon account, hell yes I would make my opinions known on the tablet I purchased. And I could really care less if you liked my opinion or not. You always have an option of posting your opinion and I will not hold your against you.

Really you came here to post that? I mean who are you? CEO of Asus? Why should you care about what people say about it. If you're happy then great. I originally ordered from amazon, but they cancel on me so I can't comment there, but I would about the GPS, it's not functional and people should know so they can make a buying decission. And if they lock it and some people find that's not a problem then they won't care about it.

To many people HERE. Not on amazon. and for those wondering, I'm an active prime member of the amazon community. I read and write product reviews. And I hate seeing whiners nerd about something the average consumer doesn't even know about.
I wouldn't worry too much about this, it was simply a strategic measure to get Asus to respond (by threatening their sales).... which worked. Fortunately, the reviews/stars on Amazon are able to be edited/updated, so now that Asus has given in to the demands of unlocking the bootloader, the XDA community can simply update their rating to what ever they see fit (which by the way, many have already done).

Prime Manufacturing Rumors

Scratch all that as well, here's a quote from a Best Buy employee in this thread:
Quixion2008 said:
As a current Best Buy employee(Senior at Purdue University(Seasonal employee)...(the same on helping a good amount of this forum get grey docks ahead of schedule) I believe I can shed some light on this issue. Today while using our inventory management software (RSS) I looked up the grey 32 TF201. In BEST BUYS system the sku has been DISCONTINUED. This generally happens when we are no longer receiving that particular model of a computer or tablet physically in stores in the future. This is, in my opinion, not what is going on. As most have noticed the grey 32 prime has been pulled from BBY.com. Only the CG is even on the site. The grey was taken down and given a "secret sku" that was to be used for those who had pre ordered a CG and were given the opportunity to switch to grey. This sku has gotten out to the forums and has been being used to order grey 32 primes online through BBY.com. I suspect BBY is changing the sku so this can no longer be done, and giving the prime a dedicated sku for in store availability which should be occurring within the next 2-3 weeks.
The prime is here to stay.

Also, I never knew this forum was fulled with /b/tards. Shoulda inb4 OP is a troll.
Scratch all that, just talked to a support rep. They're done manufacturing the First model of it. They've got a second model they're planning to roll out this month (just like ICS would be available before the end of the year). That would explain why Best Buy assumed it's done, discontinued the first version of the TF201. Perhaps a TF211? Feel free to call 'em up and ask if it's been discontinued. They should respond with something along the lines of Lol new model! Or something to that effect. Waiting for a supervisor to call me up tomorrow.
Just got off the phone the Best Buy.com floor manager, and *apparently* Asus is no longer manufacturing the Prime. I wanted to return it for a REPLACEMENT, and nobody could answer one simple question: Do you have one in stock to replace it with? I got to the supervisor and he simply told me it was done, gave me a direct number to Asus. He also told me to file an RMA and that Asus would try to fix it, and if they couldnt, then I'd get a same or better one.
Great.
I'm calling Asus to see what's up. I'll update the OP with more info. I want my damn Prime fixed...
I'd appriciate it if someone else called Best Buy to see if this true. Get to a live person, and ask for their supervisor. The guy I got was 'Micheal'. Be sure to ask for his name to see if it's the same guy. Thanks
lol.

if anything bby doesn't have a proper in store stock date so their system is screwed up. no one on CS or at the store level has any idea of what's going on as far as manuf or actual stock beyond what their inventory system shows them, and that system is a piece of crap (unless they updated it significantly after i quit from there, which i doubt)
the only actually plausable thing one can take from this is they are for some reason giving the new batches a different sku and discontinuing the old one.

Yeah best buy also told me that Asus wasn't coming out with the Prime back in december.
Major bugs, horrible design flaw and dishonest sales tactics mixed together with a name that is clearly ripped off from hasbro will lead to its demise.
Prime could have been a real winner but Asus just couldn't live up to it.
They will probably stop making the current bugged out and defective units and redesign it with a plastic back and rename it to the Asus Tranny.

Or:
1) you can return it
2) you can RMA it
3) you can be patient and let ASUS release a fix
It's possible that #3 might have happened today.
Of course you also could have searched and read about all of the above ... (hint: the rules are linked in my signature.)
I have been patient, I do not want option 1 and 2. I have waited for this tablet and not I am only able to user it for 5 min before another reboot after ICS. I plan to keep it but I do not want to wait months while my tablet sit and gather dust. I will check on option 3 to see if there is indeed an update.

I had a unit from Best Buy, take it back, have them OMS order you a new one and you will have a brand new tablet, likely without any defect by the end of the week. If you do still have software issues, your 14 day counter restarts with the new tablet so you have another 14 days before you have to worry about anything.
Seriously don't understand the sheer number of people willing to scour the forums all day trying to cry about how bad ASUS is when they can simply go get a replacement tablet ordered in less than 15 minutes.
I know you can do it, because I did it. Took my online ordered best buy tablet back to the store, they had it all taken care of and said I will have a new unit on Friday. If you could wait SOOOO long for the tablet, have a defective one, why can't you wait 4 friggin days to get a brand new one and reset your clock while you wait for ASUS to release a bootloader?
The people who won't do that are going to feel real dumb if it does end up being a hardware issue and they squandered away the opportunity to go and exchange at best buy/gamestop/wherever and find out that it will take weeks to RMA it to ASUS directly as opposed to days if not instantly at their local retailer.
Seriously dumbfounded.
OP - not meaning to take this all out on you, but more a general complaint about many posters here that are claiming the same as you. We have all been waiting for this tablet to release, many of us with issues, act like an adult and go get things taken care of.

Where is the promised unlock bootloader that Asus claim was coming with ICS. Is this another scheme from Asus to sell more tablets ?. About to call Best buy to send my prime back.

What are you talking about?! It's been out for awhile now. You must not have seen the thread. To get the unlock tool you need to unregister from XDA for a full month. Don't re-register and log back in or you'll have to start over. Asus will contact you shortly to let you know where to go and pick up your zip drive with the unlock tool on it. Just wait, they know who you are and will call soon.....

Do you actually know what the unlock tool will do?
Let them fix the reboots and unknown serial issues first.
Sounds like you need to send it in and get an iphad.
If you unlock the bootloader, your warranty will be void.. so if going back to HC doesn't fix your problems, you'll be SOL..
May as well be patient.. *****ing won't make it come any faster.

My HTC Correspondence

While spending time in Taiwan I thought I would try to reach out to HTC and see if could be put in touch with someone at the company. I figured that while I was in the country it would be worth to shot to see if I could contact someone sympathetic to the ROM development (or even the Jetstream) cause.
I felt that as someone who has (an albeit tiny) body of HTC device development work that I might merit a vaguely personalized form letter that politely amounted to go away! I certainly didn't have any illusions of grandeur nor am I naive to the fact that companies regularly want to distance themselves from perceived failure.
It began with a tweet directed at HTCDev requesting a tour.

I didn't receive the courtesy of a reply, but you can be the judge of whether that was merited.
Next I contacted HTCDev via their HTML contact form. You know those forms that you fill out only half expecting the contents to actually be delivered? I received the following automated reply a little later.

I had hoped for some resemblance of a human reply, but I am left disappointed. I am happy that I tried.
So there you have it. I'm sure other better people than I have tried more earnestly to contact HTC, but I thought I would share my lone attempt. The most disappointing thing about it all is that it is not very surprising.
when the jetstream was new and the disappointment fresh, i tried getting their attention through their facebook page and emails. they blamed at&t for the lack of development and ignored the device from that point forward. its nice of you to try.
on the some-what good news, last i asked show_p what's shaking (2 weeks ago) and he said he's got something planned to fix the crashing, and he should get to it in two weeks. (that means this week) i don't wanna bother him just yet, but maybe he'll get the job done.

Cosidering this is how HTC does updates, they have no right to blame AT&T.....

To all whom are interested, (minor gossip, insider story), no I'm not HTC employee nor contractor. ok ok may be a next next next door neighbor, which I purposes walk across to look at their pretty receptionist (I'm just joking too).
Anyway, I am in China, HK, TW, consumer grade manufacturing industries, hence would like to share these two possibilities.
1) I suspect this tablet was an AT&T initiative from the very beginning, An AT&T owned project, then open tender to couple of designers and manufacturers, notably HTC, Asus, etc and HTC won the job. All development costs will be billed $$$$, man hours, prototypes, tooling, ALT, MoQ, etc. Under such conditions AT&T would be hard pressed on costs for a rom upgrade, because many man hours not only on developments but testings thousands of accumulated functions and features.
2) But there's also a possibly of 2nd scenario, which is HTC self designed and build the Jetstream and knocked on many Telco's door to sell it.
Under my observation of North America availability only, no where else in the world, it's more likely a AT&T initiated project. So, no money no upgrade.
Come to think of it, it has 4G, first amongst tablet? It must be an AT&T initiative.
End.
