[Q] how to modify on Framework-res.apk ? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys , i'm new here .. just got Galaxy S 2 and want to re-enable the CRT-Off animation effect , i went through the tutorial from free your android dot com
did the decompile and changed the value in the XML file to false .. my problem is how to put the Framework-res.apk file in the shape like it was .. tried copy and replace with Rootexplorer twice and end up with bootloop twice also i had a backup so i restored ... i'm using the stock rom jk2 v2.3.5 rooted with the speedmod-s2-k2-16 ... i found the apk manager tool here on XDA it's a handy tool but still don't know to achieve this with the the tool ... so all i need is the CRT off animation back on for a start
thanks in advance guys

After recompiling framework-res.apk you have to copy META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from the original apk.

please explain more if possible ..

Rebuild apk. For example.
Apktool b c:\framework-res framework-resnew.apk
Then rename framework-res.apk and frameworknew.apk to framework-res.zip and framework-resnew.zip. extract framework-res.zip and put meta-inf and androidmanifest.xml into framework-resnew.zip. delete framework-res.zip and rename framework-resnew.zip to framework-res.apk.
Good luck

i just did it again, this is the way...
extract the all the drawable-ldpi folder and look at the last pic.tha t is the one you want to replace.then put it back to the .apk!
dont do it via adb or while the .apk is in a .zip
it has to be just framework-res.apk in the desktop

no need to zip or anything
just put it back like you would in any other folder.
just:
1 open apk with 7zip
2 replace the wallpaper
3 make sure you did it (close the 7zip window and check the wallpaper again
4 close the window and push the apk to the phone

Decompiling DefaultThemes.apk

Hello,
I want to decompile the DefaultThemes.apk ! However, decompiling with apk manager 4.9 gives an error !
I dont want to just change the images, but add another theme !
What can be done ?
probably the best solution would be enable the cyanogenmod themes manager and install that theme...

Hello, thanks ! I was able to decompile the apk successfully. However,I added the desired files for new theme, added the ids,and edited the smali files ! I then recompiled it and signed it. However, after pushing it to the phone,it doesn't work, just a blank screen is displayed ! Here is my apk ! What shall I do to make it work ?
Thanks !
Edit : It is working after restarting phone, however new theme doesn't show up in themes menu, only old ones are shown !

How can i decompile this defaultthemes.apk?
sr my bad english..!
Solution?
What I do is using Root Explorer.apk I extract the file while on the phone (it automatically unfold it in a new folder called extracted). I copy the original files to a TMP folder in case I delete or make mistake with the original files when copy them over.
I then connect the phone via USB and change the files thats need to be changed and then I unplug the USB cable and again using the Root Explorer.apk I choose to zip it again. An from there I rename the new file to *.apk
Hope it helps

You can't simply replace xml files, you need to update the resources.arsc with the new xml as well. Use apktool to build your package, then just copy the resources.arsc file from the build folder
HERE
Check out this How-To. Makes it pretty easy to change whatever you like without running into bootloops. Tested and working on ICS

Wrong answer...
You could be right, but no...
That are not the default themes...
I think you should drag and drop the files from your theme into the framework file and compile and sign. That should do it.
Or do you mean a theme enabled by default but not default theme?
Greets!

Try wipe cache and dalvik, and sign correctly. I admit that it is strange.

Edit: did you sign, compile?

Hi,
check for what exactly ?
there is nothing special .. as I said .. if I flash the ROM and the theme separately then every thing is ok ...
all I did was replace the files in the zip..and then I get stucj at bootanimation.
I didn't sign or compile...
I have a theory : the SystemUI has a battery percentage and the apk has new files in it... could it be the problem ?

First: to clarify;
you have a couple APKs for your Tab.
You place them in a flashable zip, flash, bootblock
you have a ROM for your Tab,
you grab the .zip, and replace the theme APKs, flash, and it works?
THat is really strange...
Hi,
thanks for answering me mDroidd ...
I found the problem.. it is the SystemUI.apk
I copied all the theme files to my ROM zip except that file and the device boot ok.
why does this file need to be flashed in a separate zip ?
is there another way ?

It isnt an app that u can just theme with so easily.
U have to open apktool using "CMD" or Command Prompt
If u want to theme easily use ticklefish's Tickle my droid
If u want to theme as u want exactly use apktool.
Also If u just want to edit images (and not xmls)
Just use 7 zip to extract ur apk. Edit pngs in drawable-ldpi and drawable-hdpi using gimp/Paint.net/Photoshop
then put edited files back in the apk
Cheers
make sure after the edit put same filename and repack
