Yes this is about Gaming... - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I'm sure most of you have seen the game demo's shown on the Prime, including Riptide, Shadowgun, Glowball ...etc, I am yet to see Tegra games such as the following:
Galaxy on Fire 2 - this should look amazing!
Shine Runner - hoverboat racing
HISTORY Great Battles Medieval - this was first tested on the nvidia quad-core reference tablet, which revealed how smooth a strategy game like this could be played
Zen Pinball - funky twist on pinball
Vendetta Online - another space game, but centred around MMO
Bang Bang Racing
Dark Meadow - another game to look forward to. Good visuals and an interesting storyline
I really hope other gaming company's head towards Android development in the near future, the mear fact that there are thousands of roms for various emulators and can be played with a ps3/xbox remote is a huge +
However I would like to see more PC like games possibly ported onto Android, for example Homeworld/Homeworld Cataclysm, Command & Conquer series, Half-life/Portal series, Borderlands...to name a few. I'm not sure where the community stands on this type of development, I'm sure it's not an easy task, but it has to be possible as it would grab alot of interest. I'm not saying necessarily the brand new releases, but at least some of the classic's that we know and love which would be ideal for some mobile gaming.
Just a thought, but share your ideas and suggestions

Porting from x86 environment (PC) is not an easy thing. And good games need good controls, even though we are at the point where gamepads are finally supported i dont think devs can make games that depend on it. So alot of games wont really work with touchscreen controls.
I think the best thing we can do if we want good games is pay for the ones that will come out on tegra3, so the companies make some money out of it.
And if you count alle the Tegra2+Tegra3 games + gameloft + other companies + emulator you get alot of good games already available. This Tablet is not thought as a replacment for my Desktop gaming pc.

Get onlive app and you can play all the great pc games.

NVidia has collaborated with a lot of game development teams (as you can see in most games credits), and Asus is the manager of the "Republic of Gamers" community. It should be time for them to push the developers to create good Android games. Anyway, a good game usually means more than a year of development. Providing how long has been Android alive, and how long has it been a smooth enough OS... my guess is game developers will start moving towards it but games will take its time to come.

I'm hoping for a Torchlight or Torchlight 2 port or version that works it's way to Android because I feel Action RPG would work great on a touch screen and since Torchlight has a netbook mode I feel it would run awesome on Tegra 2-3.
I'm also interested in Onlive but I'm concerned about bandwidth because I have a 6mb DSL connection and my wife and kids use netflix as the primary source of TV. I guess I could head over to evil charter but then the price doubles...
Anyway, I feel that we will get some AAA titles for android in 2012 and it will spike even further from there... I expect some good augmented reality games and some 3d action from Nvidia as well. =)

When Google merges Chrome into Android it should get much better. At least we would get Bastion. I see Android on the forefront on games on mobile device with stuff like Tegra, but with different capabilities per device there is not much incentive to make a really spectacular game that only runs on a few devices.

Yes!! I got Onlive on my Prime and used my Wiimote. Very awkward and had to download the wiimote conroller app. I plan to get the Onlive contoller or get a wireless controller.
The new Batman looka amazing on the Onlive app! I had no lag either. I got 1 month FREE Player pack Bundle, which is normally $9.99. with a promo code from Chevy. Awesome app.
Riptide gp looks incredible on the prime and is fun to play. The tegra 3, does make a difference.

Onlive is great if you live in the US, hoping they get more servers across the shoreline. It's a brilliant idea and it's sure to do well.
Im looking forward to playing some GTA 3 (with revised graphics) on the Prime

The games you mentioned are OK. The highlights are Dark Meadow and the Pc games you listed. I'm looking for more hardcore oriented games now. I had ShineRunner on iPad. It was cool but same ol really. Riptide much better although same people make it. I'm getting tired of the kiddy oriented simple games. Bring Metro 2033 or Batman Arkham city. Or would love to see some over the top FPS, maybe something from Broken Sword series, or maybe a tegra3 version of Dead Space.
Like you said, a really good, in depth game will take at least a year to develop. Only thing is with as fast as these tablets come out with newer, more powerful hardware, the development has to be shorter. Unless made in advance to run on future hardware specs also. Until I seen OnLive, I've been sleeping on PC games. I was always more of console type gamer. I cant front though, the games I've seen for Pc are sick as a Mofo on OnLive. PC versions of console games usually better or better graphics n extras. Mobile platform gaming needs more hardcore oriented games. Games that take a good amount of time to beat. Has to be more in depth. I'd love for Bethesda to make an Elder scrolls version for us. I miss playing that game. I had it when it came out for xbox one, the Morrowind version.
I think OnLive may be our only access to these type of gsmes till developers start producing these type games. ShadowGun is cool but I have it for iPad n just about beat it. I need more than that. Bladeslinger looks cool but very similar to infinity blade, which I have infinity blade 2 already. I want more games like Dead Space. That game is very well put together n always scare the sh€£ outta me when playing. That's how into I be, especially when playing with headphones on. I understand a tablet is supposed tp be pick up n go type device, but we need a more I intimate gaming experience. For some people, this tablet will be the only form of gaming they have. Like me. I no longer have console systems. My iPad is my sole device to fulfill my gaming desires. I have all the best games, IMO. So along with being a productivity device, I hope the Prime can continue my love of gaming also. I know IOS has way more games, but I have e feeling the tegra3 will open doors to some serious games to come. We need more unreal and doom3 type engine powered gsmes. Those usually produce the best visuals and gameplay. I like the more simple games also but I'm really looking for games to really make you think and put up a great challenge..

I know right. I love those type action/horror games. I've never had a game like dead space scare me so much before..lol..n I loved it. Just looking for more engaging games that really pull you into the experience.

Grand Theft Auto 3 is coming this month, I thought tomorrow but not sure. I saw that added to the Tegra Zone today and Soulcraft

For me the best game is Dizzy, but you don't need Tegra3 for that, I know. Still, I hope more games like that will be available (and more Dizzy games get ported).

This was also said about Tegra3:
- Sébastien Deguy, CEO and Founder at Allegorithmic
“Tegra 3’s quad-core processor and 12-core GPU allows developers to port PC and console game titles using BitSquid Tech for the same great experience on any device. From a hard-core gamer’s customized PC to a phone or tablet with Tegra, you’ll get identical game play and buttery smooth graphics, anywhere any time."
- Benjamin Lee, Managing Director at Blowfish Studios
”Thanks to Tegra 3′s fantastic GPU performance we were able to use the same quality textures in Zombie Driver THD as on the PC. The outstanding quad-core CPU performance makes it possible to support Tegra game development in parallel to other high-end platforms.”
Some more details:
The GPU is also significantly more powerful than the Tegra 2 GPU, with up to 3x performance, while also adding other graphics features such as dynamic lighting, which they say no other current mobile GPU has that. Dynamic lighting makes for much more realistic environments and gaming experiences.
The game developers working on Tegra 3 games say that the 4 CPU’s help a lot with in-game damage effects, animated textures, weather effects and so on. So don’t be surprised if games made for Tegra 3 actually look better than other games made for other GPU’s, even if those GPU’s manage to get higher score in synthetic benchmarks (I’m looking at you A5/PowerVR SGX543Mp2).
Now this is very promising details!

Think GTA 3 will run on the NC?

Was on engadget today and saw that rockstar is going to release GTA 3 for the following devices.
Apple iOS Devices: iPad 1 & 2, iPhone 4 & 4S, iPod touch 4th Generation
Android Phones: HTC Rezound, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Atrix 4G, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola Photon 4G, Samsung Galaxy R, T-Mobile G2x
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Dell Streak 7, LG Optimus Pad, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Toshiba Thrive
Think we have a shot or not enough power?
We definitely don't have enough power because we can barely run any of the higher end games (shadowgun) I'm sure that well be able to get it running, but probably terribly. Also this game doesn't even have that great of graphics... just bad optimization

Shadowgun runs fine for me on one of the later nightlies overclocked to 1.2ghz. I also have GangStar running with no issues to.

GT racing, Asphalt 6, Modern Combat 2, Sacred Odyssey all run great for me. That being said with Gameloft already having Gangstar (which runs great BTW) there isn't much need for an actual GTA. GTA3 might be worth it if there was a way to put the Real GTA mod on it.
fine, fine maybe shadowgun was a bad example but what about 9mm, riptide, fast five, dungeon defenders, etc. those don't even force you to have a dual core device... remember we're pushing 1024x600(thats 614,400) pixels of 3D on old hardware... also I'm not so sure about the definition of "it runs fine" these days. Some people seem to convince themselves that things run great when they're not (myself included)

How did you get the crosshair in the middle, the damage indication, and the dragable looking area to fill the whole screen??? I've tried tons of different versions to no avail I've even looked at your thread and used the version listed to no avail. thanks in advance
yea gangstar makes gta3 look kind of dated.
I did notice a bunch of slowdowns trying high quality games on my Nook however a second later I noticed I was running on the conservative governor and facepalmed myself.
Switched to performance governor and everything was a breeze...
One way or another, we won't know until it's released, right?
I wouldn't be surprised if it runs. The NC is a little gem. That said, how is it going to playable on a touchscreen? And... an honest question... is GTA III really that fun? I just picked it up in a steam pack and it didn't take too long for me to move onto Vice City (and then stop playing that a little while later). It'll probably be more impressive to run on a phone/tablet but it felt like an early tech demo compared to a lot of "modern" games.

The entire screen is bound to controls, take a look at the picture of it on engadget... its a little overwhelming
Touchscreen controls urgh...
I still pair a PS3 Controller via Bluetooth every time I play PS1 / N64 games on my Nook... I really hope they add Bluetooth Controller support to the game.
Yeah, having real controller support would be nice. I did see the screenshots, and it's just really hard to play games with a virtual d-pad and even just *two* buttons (to me), let alone 6 or 8, especially when it includes what are supposed to be shoulder buttons.
On a side note, I mucked around a little with the onlive app, and that suffers from the same thing (the virtual controls). That said, OnLive does have newer, more compelling games, although it requires a constant, good data connection.
Nook Color seems to me to be able to push Dreamcast level graphics at 1024x600. Most games with that level of graphics seem to run at around 20-30fps at best.
The main reason GTA3 is so much more demanding than seems reasonable is that it's a sandbox game with a large, open world. It's not all that much different than say Elder Scrolls.
Game is out now and market says it should work on the NC. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rockstar.gta3 Anyone got it to work?
It hangs Nook dead rght after intro movies. CM 7.1.0 Stable.
With chainfire nvidia plugin, screen stays black upon launching the app
soooo I take it as a no go. Darn. Well it works on my electrify but as stated earlier the controls take up way to much room. I'll try a wiimote I guess.
Anyone have any luck getting this to run? Would think it would be possible to and to control it with a PS3 controller connected via bluetooth.
Got it to work! Download GTA 3 version 1.1, use chainfire 3D and set default plugin to POWERVR, awful cellphone video below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKN9QRGq09E
EDIT: Will test more in the morning, jump to 1:00 to see 30 seconds of "gameplay" before I flip the car
why do we have to use the powervr plugin? nook color actually has a powervr gpu
I didnt need any plug in. I installed CM7 last night and gta was in "my apps" and it runs better than on my shift. Lol

Gaming on the Transformer Prime (my take)

So, I received my TF Prime on christmas evening I have personally never owned a tablet but have had several Android Devices and was able to play your typical puzzle and tower defense games on them without any problems besides slight performance issues. I mainly wanted the Prime for the gaming and I can honestly say this thing can handle anything I have thrown at it.
I first downloaded a bunch of classics, like Cut the Rope, Angry Birds, PvZ, and as expected they ran smooth as silk and looked better than ever on the Super IPS display. Next I loaded up some emulators, Mame, NES, Genesis, Super Nintendo they all ran excellent.
Then it was time to really see what the Tegra 3 could do, so I tried the Glowball Demo and RipTide Demo and was pretty impressed both game ran smooth and looked and sounded great, super easy controls. I needed to see more. I purchased ShadowGun from the Nvidia Tegra Zone app and was completely floored Visually and performance wise I couldn't believe I was playing this on a tablet, Console quality graphics smooth performance and most importantly fun! If this is any indication of the type of games and performance I can expect from the TF Prime and the Tegra 3 I am 100% satisfied with this tablet Anyone who is on the fence about getting the TF Prime and want to use it for gaming don't be, just get it. You will be happy you did I am content with my TF now and with ICS coming down the road things will only get better.

I'm pretty sure they don't cause gameloft hate Asus.
(why else their game aren't made available for the original Transformer ?
I'm sure Gameloft games will become available to use on prime. there will always be wrkarounds. plus we still great games like teg3 version of Dead Space and more to be released. check out my thread in themes and apps section of prime. its called Prime/Tegra3 Gamers thread. we list what's known to be working so far and more. there's alot of great games out for Android already. coming from using my Ipad, I was surprised at how much Android had. initially I was worried cuz I have all the best games on my Ipad and feared Android would severely be lacking. not the case at all. Android is catching up in the games department and have some really good ones out there. Tegra3 version of Shadowgun owns my Ipad version, which looks great also.
I played Shadow Gun THD at gamestop (my ATP comes tomorrow) and it was crazy how detailed and smooth the game was! If they can get more support for optimized games who knows how many incredible games we'll see!
While shadowgun is amazing and stunning my favorite is riptide
I too purchased the prime for gaming mostly and was very pleased when playing the available games. But I'm disappointed that gameloft games are not available for the prime. It is Gamelofts fault but end result is still can't play it. I think Dead Space is the same since I couldnt find it in the Market either.
Once root is available you can probably change build.prop to make market think you have a different device but that will prevent you from seeing tegra 3 optimized games so youd have to switch back and forth between two build.prop. But still this isnt guaranteed games will still work correctly.

Dead Space is offically coming to Android. The tegra3 version. not released yet, I believe. A couple people said they had it already but its not tegra3 version n more than likely a hacked version.
How ease it to hook up the PS3/360 controller via blue tooth with TP. No way I'm playing games like Dead Space with a touch screen.
ps3 controller is compatible natively through BT on the prime, the xbox controller needs to be plugged in via usb (which means you need the dock) to work, but it also natively supported that way.
the games also have to have gamepad support enabled, which shadowgun (iirc) does.

I think by prime having better battery life, a fifth core, best.display, and a beefier gpu from.Nvidia, it just might be. Of course the vita will be strictly game focused plus backing of Sony. so prime would probably produce better looking games since more powerful. the vita is no slouch also but you have to remember two different platforms. vital will have strictly games for it, mostly. prime will have some of everything and as time passes there will be alot of great games optimized for tegra3. the vita does look cool though. I had the original PSP when it first came out. I loved it. I have a good feeling the vita will be a hit considering how powerful it is and the great visuals, compared to other handhelds, it can produce.

Could the transformer prime handle a full fleged DS emulator?

There have been a few experiments with DS emulators in the past - but the verdict usually ended up with terrible framerates.
Now that we have a quadcore device that has a sizeable increase in performance over other devices - the question of true performance stands...
"...but can it play pokemon?"
This would be one of the easiest things to do. But its a matter of if anyone wants it. I had DS emulator for Ipad. It was OK. There are no great games really only it. Pokemon is for little kids..lol. by the way though, I think Digimon characters would destroy Pokemon ones..lmfao its really a matter of if someone wants to use their time tl make one. With all the other great emulators out there, no real demand for DS emulator. You the first I ever heard ask for one.
What I want to see is a Turbo Gratix 16 or PC engine emulator or a 3DO one.

Disagree, there's literally tons of great games on DS, it's been the best hand-held gaming platform I had so far, there's a huge variety of games, not only pokemon
Take a look at Advance Wars 1 and 2, The World Ends With You (this game is a Masterpiece), Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantasy Tactics 2, Scribblenauts, All the Castlevania-RPGs etc ... I'll stop here, but there's a lot more! All of these are no Casual games too!
Anyway concerning the emulator, I think Nintendo sold so many DS that people just play on DS instead of emulators for tablets, but it's just my opinion
I find it funny to hear someone say Pokemon is for kids, and then reference Digimon.
There are tons of great games on the DS system, especially JRPGs.

Lmfao. You got me. Both are. But if one were to be better than another in battle I'd go with the latter.
To op; those are some good games you mentioned. Advanced wars n dragon quest. Been so long since playing a DS. Or at least the original one. I moved on from Nintendo, as IMO, more kiddie oriented games. I had moved on to PSP. I even had an Atari Lynx back in the day and a TurboExpress still have my Sega master system from over 20yrs. Ago.
D.S was a major advancement in evolution of mobile gaming compared to gameboy. I still think gameboy holds all time best selling portable device.

I really want a Dreamcast and Saturn Emulator. Loved playing power stones n Phantasy Star. Those had alot of great RPG also. PC engine/Turbo gratis 16 had some great RPG also.
The problem right now is no so much the lack of hardware that could handle it, it's been the compatability of the emulator with the games. Some games will just never work properly on an emulator no matter what the processing power.

I'm pretty sure it's only little kids who say Pokemon is only for little kids. All of my friends who are 20+ love Pokemon as it is a great game and is excellently made. All of Nintendo's games are made with the utmost quality and are jam packed full of fun.
That said, I would love to see a DS emulator for android. I've been hoping for one recently as I want to play Pokemon Black or White but I don't want to have to carry my DS around with me. Having only one thing to carry would be awesome.
If we were able to run a full fledged DS emulator on our Prime that would blow all the games iOS + Android combined.
i've had every model of the DS minus the latest 3-Disaster but i honestly wouldn't do much with a DS emulator. i'd probably have more fun with a GBA emulator.

Lol, it was a disaster for Nintendo maybe, but I was more than happy to trade in my old DSlite and get a brand new hand-held with tons of added features for $100 That being said, I use it the same amount which is not at all and I don't think I could put an emulator through any more use.
I do have GBC/GBA/NES/SNES/N64 emulators on my phone/Prime and love being able to break out the classics, but the newer Nintendo and its 1st party developers get the less they jive with me as a consumer and fan. A DS/3DS emulator would be for bragging rights more than anything.
What I do want to see is PS2 emulation though! I would kill for that.
There's an issue making emulators for current hardware though, and that's the fact that most dev's don't like entering legal battles with giant corporations. Emulating game ROMs for current hardware isn't looked at any different than pirated games on the original hardware I don't think.

Nvidia Announces new Tegra3 Optimized titles

Nvidia just announced at least 5 new Tegra3 optimized titles that look pretty impressive. this is good news as more apps n games will come out geared specifically for the extra power of Tegra3. with at least 11 new tegra3 devices already announced, the app/game production is about to ramp up for Tegra3 only/optimized titles. check it out

that new Diablo Style role playing game called Dark Kingdom THD looks sick and uses Nvidia's PhysX also for realism. A PS3 port

same here. its great to have Tegra3 only/exclusive titles. tegra3 games are the best. if you look at the comments section of that article you can see everyone crying that they mad they can't play tegra3 games on their old hardware/different chipset. lmao. this is just one of the many perks of owning a tegra3 device. can't wait to get that splashtop THD also.
that Hamilton's Great Adventure looks cool also. a puzzle type/thinking game. its basically an exact PC port of the game and uses Bitsquid's DirectX11 engine technology in it.
these titles and ones already on the market or coming out is a big reason Tegra3 standouts amongst all the other chipsets. no one else has the hard hitting exclusive titles like we do. there's even rumors of Sony n nvidia bringing official PlayStation 1 & 2 games to tegra3. Sony wants some of this tablet market app/game money also in addition to their vita system. I hope it goes through. get to play some Tony Hawk Pro Skater or other titles. tekken4 would be sick.

Tony hawk works just great on fpse psx emulator ;-)
Yea, they look pretty good. It's a shame that tablet controller scheme is annoying as hell to actually enjoy the gameplay. I hate carrying around extra device (such as controller) with my tablet... thus, I rely on tablet controls for games... but it's sluggish and painfully annoying.. =/
I have yet to beat Shadowgun for exactly the same reason.. =/

Wait, since when the hell does Android ship the necessary software material for that? Using DirectX requires more than just hardware support.
The Android Central article says it was adapted from Bitsquid's DirectX 11 engine[sic], not that the game developer ported DirectX 11 and Bitsquid to Android just to sell a THD game. Do you really know what you're talking about? They likely just licensed whatever they needed for the Android version of the engine and adapted their product to the new platform.
Bitsquid is a multi-platform game engine. It already claims to support Android since Q4/2011. If you actually paid attention you would also know that like virtually every multi-platform game engine, the render is abstracted away and you use a back end that implements it. I.e. on a Windows 7 box you'll probably get DirectX11 in the default configuration, on an XBox 360 you'll get its notion of DirectX 9, and on Android you'll see OpenGL ES. DirectX 11 and OpenGL ES are different enough that you don't just "Adapt" it unless your game already looks like a tutorial on doing 3D graphics. It's also worth noting that many commercial products only support Direct X on Windows builds, even if the engine has an OpenGL backend, the developers might skip it or the engine vendor might not have it ported to Microsoft's Windows.

still what I said, minus the extra b.s. and unnecessary stuff you mentioned. its nothing new what you said. so what it uses Bitsquid DirectX 11 engine. game still using Directx11...plus not every platform has hardware to push it to full limits like Tegra3.
so regardless, a great looking game.
I tried the Splastop HD, and it's fantastic. . . for in-network use. I didn't give it much thought, but naturally the .5 and 1 Mb/s upload speeds offered in my area do not offer any kind of usability with remote desktop software. Such a shame, was so fun playing around with.
Yes, keeping a controller handy is kind of a pain, but using the touchscreen is so much worse IMO
It's why I can't enjoy Dead Space or Samurai II: Vengeance, touch-controls drive me up the wall; and they look so good . Accellerometer can be fun to use, but generally is too finicky for me even with sensitivity set low.
I especially hate (although it feels the most responsive to me) Minecraft PE without h/w keyboard/controller support.

You don't understand. It's using DirectX on Windows PCs not on Android.
That the game engine uses DirectX11 on Windows PC does not matter a hill of beans to our Tegra 3 powered Android tablet. Not unless someone implements a DirectX11 software stack for Android and only Microsoft legally can do that. At best any of the "Eye candy" features worth a THD tag that are going to relevant with an engine like Bitsquid or this game are going to involve Shaders. Ditto for good looking and professional games in general. The shader technology of DirectX and OpenGL (and therefore Android) are incompatible. Spanish and French are far more compatible. Bitsquid likely pushes nVida's C for Graphics (Cg) toolset for that, which is something that abstracts away much of that so you do more tweaking and less really-really-expensive-re-writing that no THD can warrant the cost of doing. Many engines like Bitsquid encourage this so that you don't require DirectX anything to make a great looking game, except when running the game on a DirectX platform like the XBox 360 or Windows PCs.
There fore, DirectX is only relevant to this topic when for example the game is looking great on your Windows PC. It does _NOT_ impact whether the game looks like **** or the best thing ever released for Android/Tegra 3! So stop talking about it like this "DirectX 11" does make a difference to what product we see. See my point? Unless you want to say that it does use DirectX 11 on Android, and remove all doubt....

The first one looks like that glu game (eternity warriors i think?). Glu may have ruined that style of gameplay for me. Still holding off for Da Vinci

Thank you for posting this, those games look absolutely fantastic. Thanks to you Good sir.
I agree with Demandarin. Tegra 3 exclusive optimization is one of the reasons I'm not going to be too upset when the rest of the tablets this year start launching with newer, better chipsets.
Though this chipset-exclusive fragmentation is ultimately terrible for Android, I can't help but be glad I'm on the better side of it. If there's one thing Nvidia's going to do it's get great games.
Additionally, I expect almost all of these games will have native gamepad support. I think Android & Nvidia are going to make a huge push this year to showcase Tegra3 devices as a legitimate console competitor, almost in a different realm entirely than the mobile gaming currently throned by iOS.
I agree with whoever said they can't wait for Renaissasnce. I love me some multiplayer FPS.

I see what you saying now. plus I never made no big deal over it. only mentioned exactly what the article said. I'm only relaying what they said. which is perfectly fair to say, since article said it. that's unless you didn't go to link I posted that mentions that in there about that game.
so write the people who wrote it n break it down for them..lol not the messenger
what happened to that da vinici thd which was supposed to be out in february? i dont even see it in tegra zone for some strange reason

I know right. lets hope its about to come out now and about to put up the finished game ready for purchase.
Eh, I'd say the article was saying adapted from an engine that does and you were implying the game is using it rather than reiterating, but whatever, peace man

android games vs handheld game consoles

Okay guys with the launch of google play users are given the ability to grasp media ranging from movies, music to android application and games no matter what device they are using.
But my question is regarding the games supplied by devs
More and more graphically intense games are put on to the market and with the help of special segments like Nvidia tegra zone, makes you wonder whether you should upgrade to a dedicated gaming device like PSVita.
If you do a rough comparison in terms of specs(of the device),price(both console and games),quality, gameplay, controls, presentation, and most of all practicality(battery utilization) what would you choose
What are your opinions?
Having had the PSP and played a few games on my SGS2 and Samsung Tablet, it's the controls on the PSP/PS Vita which win for me.
I also think will depend on the type of game you like. Shadowrun, Nova 2, Modern Combat 3 don't feel as good on android. Also racing games don't really feel like driving games but that is me.
I have been sucked in by some for strategy games and they are perfect. MMO's are probably better off as have keyboard but haven't really tried.
I am looking at the PSVita sometime in the future.
i agree hardware controls are better input methods for gaming than touch screens, and there is some art in console gaming when it comes to controlling our avatar (be it character , vehicle, ship of whatever) instead of just repeated screen tapping..i got the gameloft's "BackStab'' game..don't get me wrong it's a top notch game for mobiles but if it were a PSP/Vita game you'd have more flexibility in terms of controls, but since it's a touch based button game on a relatively small screen devs probably had no other choice than to make it simple..

Quality games controls on android is no longer an issue. Latest version of sixaxis control for android even has touch controls emulation that is sheer genius. Allows any touch game to be setup for a ps3 pad.
Only issue in my opinion is which two devices do you want to carry??
Phone+games device
OR
Phone+PS3 Pad

an handeld device has to be handeld to be and handeld deivice - if you have to put it on a desktop to use it, the screen is too small so you will need a hdmi (if you device support it) connection and a tv.
it starts to be a bit unwieldy imho, carrying a tv and a desktop in your pocket.
I have been living a cave obviously lol.
I only saw a quick demo but Sonic the Hedgehog!? I might see if I can connect my Galaxy Tab to the sixaxis controller to play Shadowrun or Nova but I don't think I would carry with me and play in the train, etc. or anywhere in public personally am a PC gamer with the odd mobile game.
Maybe if big developers get behind the platform will we see bigger budget games. Quality of games developed for consoles is different between that of phones. I wouldn't be surprised if this changes in the future though.
Original OP asked about the differences now but don't see that the playing field is the same based on the games and hardware that has come out so far.

for me it's a matter of choosing where to play what.
for home gaming I use my PS3, for mobile gaming - my android's (Galaxy SII and Galaxytab 10.1) are wonderfull!
if I'm in a situation where I only have a few minutes, the SII is superp:
it's already in my pocket - the games installed are easy to just jump in and play for a few minutes. also great to entertain my little princess when we have to wait, and she gets restless.. the ability to use something you already have with you in your pocket is far better than having to remember to bring a console.
for longer gaming situations (travel etc.) the 10.1 offers a larger screen - and then the possibility to play more advanced games. more than advanced enough for my use. the ability to have a combined gamedevice and possibility to surf the web/check mail/etc. in one device is great, no need to bring a heavy laptop.
after I got the tab, I no longer need a laptop - I use the tab for small tasks, and a desktop computer for advanced tasks.
in all cases it comes down to using the correct device for my needs.
and the android devices more than satisfies mine

WHAT!?!?!?!
no offence but are you an idiot or just hopeless ate presenting your thoughts in a manner that makes sense.
WTF would anyone place a 4" screen across the room from them??? .......... if this is how you setup to play games on your phone no wonder your not enjoying the process.
The 1st part is idiotic enough but you then completely outdo yourself with the carry a TV and a desktop suggestion ........ because i don't want to form an even lower opinion of you than i already have, am going to regard this comment as an epically failed attempt at humour.
Please go start a poll asking how many forum users place there phone 2-3metres away to play games.
Then another asking if they think adding a desk and a 40" TV screen to their mobile kit would solve the problem ..............
WTF are they feeding kids where you live bro ?!?!?!?!?
