[Q] Custom ROMs & pre-installed apps - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've just got a Samsung Galaxy S II and am very excited! It's got Navigon pre-installed. I'm coming from a Samsung Nexus S which I installed various custom ROMs on and would like to install custom ROMs on my new Galaxy S II. Is it possible to install a custom ROM and somehow not lose the pre-installed apps like Navigon?

Back the apk's up with titanium backup / root explorer, good luck.

Titanium will backup system apps as well as ones you've installed yourself. You don't have to worry about it.

Some rom will be no-wiped option. So, you can flash the rom and everything will be there.
But for me, clean install might be better.
Good luck on choosing rom

I don't think you should be messing with gapps... others like the file manager, launcher pro (free) titanium backup (free) etc (if you have alternatives or the paid versions, or i would suggest you leave them as is, as they are very useful apps )can be removed safely...
I have removed
-Car home
-Launcher pro
-Titanium Backup
-File manager (using ghost commander)
other apps i've left them
Do a backup with xrec with the default settings and try removing various apps and test for yourself, if anything goes wrong you can always recover the backed up version

I just think he wants to do a full install and remove the unused apps... maybe he uses market and nothing else (navigation, street view, places etc) so he wants to know if the phone will be stable after removing those apps... so let's stick to advising him on what to remove...

[Q] want to do my own rom... what do i need?

hello
i want to create my own rom for the xperia x10
what programs do i need for that?
and can i modify an existing rom? want to understand how making roms works first, so my question is if i download a custom rom, can i modify it for my personal purposes? for exampe by removing some apps...
thanks for ur help
Taking out apps is easy.. use titanium backup. Ifyou want to mix them use a kitchen. If you want to build one use linux and download google source and edit.

Sorry buddy there is no sure fire way to do that....
Most times when someone tries to reinstall apps by way of Titanium Backup of MyBackup Pro, over a new ROM they run into force closes.
If you want a trouble free install your best bet is to install your apps one by one manually.
Now that being said, IF you must try to do this, I would personally recommend staying away from Titanium Backup and using MyBackup Pro. Try not to backup the app, install it manually but save the app data and settings.
Thank you thats it what i want to know

if u go thro that Spread sheet link above u can see which all apps are safe to remove, then u can go ahead and delete them directly from system>app folder usin any filemanager
As sun60 said.
Also you can try titanium backup app. There find the system app and tap on it and select uninstall. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup

Best Root Apps for the Honor 8

Best Root Apps for the Honor 8
For those of you with rooted Honor 8s, what are some of the best root apps you're using? Here's a small collection that I'd recommend checking out.
Root Browser
The default file explorer on the Honor 8 wont be able to explore the root sections of your phone. So if you plan on modifying any files in your root directories, grab the Root Browser.
Root Browser is the ultimate file manager for rooted users. Explore all of Android's file systems and take control of your Android device.
Download Root Browser
System app remover (ROOT)
There might be a few system apps that you want to get rid of once you've rooted your Honor 8. If that's the case, this is my favorite app to do this. It's fast and to the point. For me, I can do without the weather, smart controller, compass and backup apps.
Download System app remover
Substratum theme engine ★ root
The substratum theme engine is a growing collection of some amazing themes for your phone. Replace the default EMUI theme catalog with Substratum.
Download Substratum theme engine
Emui is compatible with substratum?
Iaa85 from Brazil with Honor 8
Does anyone know of a list of which stock apps can, might and should not be removed from the Honor 8?
Currently am working on a list of all applications that can be safely removed.
i personally use xplore instead of root explorer, but it's a matter of taste i think.
and if you only want to freeze apps, than you can use titanium backup (too).
Unfortunalety, the linked System App Remover have no option to freeze apps.
i'm very interested of this list, because i like my phones clean

So, you've got one app that's great for every rooted phone but is far from the best root browser, one app that's great for every rooted phone but not needed on the Honor 8 because most of the bloat can be uninstalled normally, and one app that doesn't work on the Honor 8 at all. Great thread you have here.
