[Q] Will the Lumia 800 get 3G on at&t if i get a UK or hong kong model?? - Nokia Lumia 800

I understand AT&T 3G bands work 850/1900.
I also read that there are two models of the 800, one without the 850 band and one with.
If someone has a model from hong kong/ UK could you check your box to see what WCDMA bands are listed? I most likely will be getting one from either the said locations

See this thread for answers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392464

Quite simple:
If it's a RM-810 NO 850 MHz 3G, if it's a RM-813 it has 850 MHz 3G, but NO 900 MHz 3G.
Jack

Yes i saw that thread but im not sure which country has which model... so if someone has one from hong kong or the UK and could tell me their model number or frequencies that would be great

3G tri-band or quad-band

Title pretty much says it all. What's the real story on the the 3g frequencies? Nokia's site indicates it's quadband 3G, but yet many of the stores seem to indicate that it's tri-band for 3G. I would like to get one for use on ATT, but I definitely need 850MHz 3G since that is the predominant frequency in my area.
Anybody? What's the real answer on this?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think they just add to the confusion on what the real answer is, or Nokia is producing multiple models with different frequencies which I've seen referenced elsewhere.
I might just hold off for the 900 or wait until CES in January where they are supposed to make their big splash for the U.S. market. The render of the Lumia 900 that hit wmpoweruser today certainly looks nice if it's true. I wouldn't mind a slightly larger screen if it doesn't make the device too large. Some of the current phones border on mini-tablet size!
I know of two types of Lumia 800's and you can differentiate them via their FCC identification.
The European edition, FCC ID: LJPRM-801:
GSM/EGSM : 850/900/1800/1900
WCDMA : 900/1900/2100
The North American edition, FCC ID: ...RM-819:
GSM/EGSM : 850/900/1800/1900
WCDMA : 850/1900/2100
I really wish Nokia would fix the data on their web pages. I ran into this a few years ago with another phone I purchased from them where it was advertised as having U.S. bands when in fact it did not. Thanks for the info everyone.
Agree 100%. When i bought my phone, the lumia was advertised as:
WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100
Many sellers have since correctly identified which bands the phone supports, but some still falsely advertise both 850 and 900 bands being on the phone.
When my Lumia 800 arrived and I could only get Edge/G service, I did some research and I was slightly disappointed. Luckily I work and live in a Wi-Fi zone, so that is my primary data connnection.

You too, huh? I was curious about Rogers. I find that 2G isn't the end of the world.. Only shortcoming are media rich sites, otherwise they still load up quickly for me.
The only thing I really would have missed on 3G is mapping and navigation, but the non-data GPS and preloaded map feature has completely eliminated that concern.
Rogers here in the 'Peg. I'm in love with it even though the primary service around my home is Edge/G. However, since I wrote that piece above, I grabbed the "Nokia Network Setup" application from the marketplace and now I can get 3G around my workplace.
Here is my situation at the moment. I'm currently in the US using At&t's network through straight talk. I purchased the Nokia Lumia 800 the UK version which is LJPRM-801. It clearly states that it supports WCDMA 900/1900/2100. Which I suppose are really meant for the UK or Europe. When I purchased the phone from the seller he clearly stated it was lock and he got it from Orange UK. Which I assume is locked as well. Surprisingly when I received the phone I inserted the Sim and it registered perfectly fine. I get voice AND data. I figured it may possibly be using the 1900 band for data. My main thoughts about this UK version is it may possibly have the 850 band included but not listed on the box for regulation concerns. How would I go about and truly testing it out if it does support 850 band?
You can't really, short of going to an area you know uses soley 850Mhz 3G, and not 1900 as well.
I dont see the reasoning behind manufacturing two different phones, My thoughts are they could have just disabled the band with a simple firmware. Has Anyone truly tested this? Any though on getting a different firmware version of the Lumia 800 on this UK version seeing if it would enable the 850 band.
Me too I purchased one from Clove.co.uk. On the box it stated 900/1900/2100 for 3G but I have 3G. Maybe I have a 1900Mhz station near my work. I will do more tests tonight.
Does an app exist to know the current band of 3G connection?
I've called Nokia while in Germany and they said that they only produced quad band Nokia lumia 800's

When you say quad band are you referring to 2g or 3g? because we know it's quadband 2g, but whether it's quadband 3g is the question.
So I have used it on 3 different locations here in Montreal on Rogers and I always got 3G. I don't know the band used by Rogers. I found several references but not definitive answer. I have the Lumia 800 Model 801.

So you have the lumia 800 which has quad band 3g? If possible could you please post a picture of the lumia 800 box listing the quad 3G bands?

I'm in Germany right now and don't have the box. I don't remember if it had the cell bands on the box. I know I got hspa on AT&T and I was happy.

HSPA+ with AT&T?

Hello, I just got this phone and I'm wondering if I was automatically switched to HSPA+ speed. It says H on the status bar but I don't notice any speed improvement. AT&T can't detect the phone obviously so I can't switch the 4G data plan on the website either.
Is there a way to check or make sure I'm getting HSPA+?
Thanks.
Go to the marketplace and download Free Speed Test.

If you are in an area that uses the 850 MHz band exclusively for HSPA+ and you only have a tri-band WCDMA Lumia then you will get 3g/edge speeds.
Data goes back and forth between 3G and H as I move about the city (New York). Wonder if it's the phone or the crappy AT&T signal.
My max down speed is about 3mbps.
Just wondering where you purchased your Lumia 800 from? I am looking for one for use with Telstra in Australia that uses the 850MHz band

I bought mine unlocked from Amazon.
Does it support the WCDMA 850MHz AT&T network? Did you have to flash it with something?
the Lumia 800 currently does not support 850Mhz, only 900.
Next month, the US variant (RM-819) will be released here at the Microsoft stores. I'm sure they won't be cheap, but they'll support 850Mhz. You can wait until then. There is also speculation that the EU variant (RM-801) can be flashed with the RM-819 firmware and then open up the 850 band, but that won't be confirmed until someone actually does it.

I don't know about that... The description of the factory unlocked German version I bought says it does.

Works fine with mine. I get 3-4mbps down, which seems to be the norm in NYC. I didn't touch the firmware, still on 11451.

Sorry, I should have been more detailed.
The variant models of the Lumia 800 (RM-801 and RM-819) differ in WCDMA bands, not GSM bands. Take everything I said before and apply it to WCDMA/HSPA. It then matches up with the description from your German advert.

It's wrong. They're only tri-band 3G.
Edit: And that's already been mentioned, stupid extra page.
It uses the 1900 band to get at&t 3G, correct?
I was thinking about picking one of these up but was worried about 3G coverage with it if it only use 1900 instead of 850 and 1900.

So is anyone using it with at&t and getting 3G coverage?

Quad-band HSPA 3G Lumia.....such thing?

So on eBay this one vendor is saying that his Lumia 800 he's selling is the international version, and it has the 850/1900 HSPA bands ALONG with the 900/2100 bands.....is there such a thing? I've only heard of the two versions- the European version with the 900/2100 bands and the NA version with 850/1900.
I don't want to buy something and have it not work with my 3G service with Telus, so confirmation would for sure help.
Thanks!

My understanding is there are 2 versions (if we exclude China), the RM-801 and the RM-819. They support the 4 GSM voice bands (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) but differ with the data bands:
* RM-801 with WCDMA HSPA 900/1900/2100 MHz
* RM-819 with WCDMA HSPA 850/1900/2100 MHz
So I believe the eBay vendor is wrong and might be mixing up the voice and data bands.
But don't quote me on this, although I checked Nokia's web site and the full product sheets.
Yeah, I'll have to ask him. He says it isn't compatible with his T-Mo 3G service in the US either.
Would it still operate on Telus' network with just a single 1900 data band? From what I know Telus doesn't run an EDGE network as they had adopted from CDMA to HSPA not that long ago. I guess I'd still get voice services but that kind of defeats the purpose of my data plan.
I guess this leads me to another thing.....how can the vendor find out which rm version it is?
The fellow just posted a picture of the tag, says 801 on the box so that must be it.

[Q] HK version of 920 supports WCDMA 1700 & 2100. So it works for Wind Mobile?

Bands

Does this mean that the HK version can be used for AWS network such as Wind Mobile and T-mobile? I think the HK version is neither locked nor branded.

wow, the HK version supports north america LTE bands too....
I am wondering if I could get the Europe/Asia LTE bands on my Rogers Lumia 920
btw, The HK version is unlocked.
sure it does
if the box says 1700/2100 then it should support T-Mobile and Wind. I got mine unlocked from Rogers (with the stupid Rogers splash screen >_<), and it works perfectly on Wind, because on the box it specifies 1700/2100. People argue that those black 920s are the leftovers from Build, and got sent to carriers to sell, who knows. GL getting your pentaban 920 ^_^
Don't get to exited on the information on the Nokia website.
Exactly the same situation applies with the Nokia France and Germany websites. They do list the Nokia 920 with PentaBand 3G and 9 bands of LTE however the retail box for both the German and the France models only list QuadBand 3G and Pentaband LTE.
Until someone actually get one of those models and test them in USA or Canada we cannot tell whats the real deal with the Lumia 920 frequencies...
We can only hope this is true! And that it's firmware can be flashed on the Rogers one, and that would fix tethering issues etc.!!

***UPDATE***: DO NOT buy from CanadaGSM.ca website. They are fraudulent. I received a blank confirmation page upon order completion and the chat line said I needed to give them my CC's 3 digit security code even after they've charged my bank account. They also said my product will not be shipped. The number listed on their website is fake as well. Google... beware CanadaGSM.
