Soft Key buttons don't illuminate: Alternatives? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an LG Optimus ME P350 Android phone that has a soft key for a back button, but I was wondering if it's possible to use the touch screen to go back instead of using the soft key? For example, when using Android 2.x I go into the default sms app and there is no onscreen button to go back, so I have to use the soft key button.
The reason I'm asking is because the soft key backlight doesn't illuminate when the touch screen is pressed, so at night when I am in the SMS app and I want to navigate backwards, I cannot even see the 'back' softkey because it doesn't illuminated. The soft key backlight only illuminates when you press them.
Here is a photo of the LG Optimus ME P350:

By on screen software do you mean this?:

This is just a keyboard for SMS. It does not provide a back button that applies to the entire phone and all Apps. For example, when I play a game and I want to go back, that keyboard won't be displayed will it?

In CyanogenMod there is an option to show screen softbuttons in "Improvements for tablets"
But I think you should go with your phone to service or something like this cuz using screen softbuttons is more like a workaround than the solution
here is softbutton app https://market.android.com/details?...t#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zbWFydC5zd2tleSJd

Can I wake up my streak 5 without power button? Yes, you can!

Hi,
Is it possible to wake up my phone by pressing (or should I say touching) home button instead of power button?
BTW, I've found a app for turning the screen down called "Screen Off and Lock" in the market.
update: I found the TapTap App from the market is very good to wake up your streak without pressing the power button. It uses proximity sensor to wake up your phone and you can change the sensitivity. I have been using it for a couple of days, it doesn't degrade the battery life. At least I didn't feel that.
I use that app (screen off and lock) with transparent launcher 100% transparent to hide the icon. and NO LOCK app to use the power button to wake it up. But have not found a menu unlock that will work.
u can use widgetlocker it has this option
Or use the menu unlock off the market. Not home button.....but the menu button....

on most devices you change key 102 HOME in /system/usr/keylayout/sruf_keypad.kl to key 102 HOME WAKE_DROPPED but im not sure that will work anyways because these are capacitive buttons, not physical ones so its like trying to use the touch screen while its off.

I didn't try this one. If it does work, that's great.
Does this app consume more power than usual?

Oh, I found this one. It's just for unlocking the phone after you wake up it, but not for waking it up. Right?

Doesn't work for me, or perhaps I'm just dumb
I've used the app Button Remapper to remap all of the hardware buttons, including the camera button as two (focus, camera).
These can be used to power on the device with wake_dropped.
However, the Home, Menu etc buttons are not identified and remappeable in the normal way. Has anyone found if they're remapped from/to other buttons, perhaps the function keys etc?
I've found that remapping the keys:
volume up = home
volume down = menu
focus = back
camera = search,
it's substantially better to use in landscape mode. However, I'd like to disable the capacitive buttons, but haven't found a way yet.

Eliminate Capcative Hardware buttons

I use the S Pen a lot. I'm trying to figure out a way to incorporate the back, home and settings button into my launcher (ADW)
The same way ICS does it basically to eliminate the need for the Capcative buttons.
Does anyone know of an app or way to put those shortcuts on your home screen? Its really annoying when using the S Pen to have to always go back to those buttons.

You know you can use the s pen right?
Press pen button while swiping back to go back
Press button up and swipe up to open menu
Press button and swipe down to go home
Samsung has all these tips in the phone
Menu.settings.spen
There is also a s pen tips app in the market...and lots of cool stuff on the facebook page.
If that doesnt work out for you there are a few apps on the maeket for "soft buttons"

You can use the S-Pen for going back, home, and menu. Hold the button and drag left for back, Button+down for home and button+up for menu.

[Q] on screen keys

any app that puts hardware keys vol up,dwn, power, home etc. on screen? key numbers 102,114,115,116,158 etc.
I don't think there are unroot apps for Softkeys. Especially not others than home and back.
Yeah, you're gonna need to be rooted, but once you are I suggest Button Savior

Yes. But I they don't work in my HTC wildfire s. There was a key remapper in android market still available in blackmart alpha.
I use a keyboard named Game Keyboard which is now available in android market. it has onscreen up down left right and also a onscreen qwerty keypad.:good:

Back button App for LG V10?

Hi guys
just checking if anyone knows whether there exists a stand alone app that can be used to simulate the soft back key or the home key in the Android navigation bar? I am not refer to those virtual back button apps.
I am asking because the LG V10 does not have hardware keys but it has a secondary screen, I can put such Back Button App on the second screen and disable the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen (LG V10 can hide the navigation bar).
I know there is an app for Samsung Edge phone to support the back/home button on the Edge's second screen. unfortunately, that app is only for Edge phone.
I know in the Play store, there are many virtual back button apps. All of them will put a virtual button some where on the screen. that is not ideal for my purpose.
Please let me know if anyone knows or can develop one.
Thanks
Try LMT launcher. You can set up your own configuration and it doesn't block your screen at all - swipe from any portion you set up.

Thanks for the suggestion, I installed the Pie Control from Google Play store as the LTM launcher is not there.
The Pie Control serves the purpose well. awesome!
Thanks!
I hide mine, enabled when using the launcher, when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen it shows and you can use the virtual buttons. I prefer that over the other options.

I'm looking for this too. I installed MyHomeButton from the play store and was able to put a home and recent softkey on my second screen, but now I still need a back button.

All in one gestures on the playstore allows you to create a back soft key that you can add to the second screen.
really need a back button and home button.
I think they should have put a home button right where the big LG symbol is on the bottom of the phone.
@Amd4life Exactly! Why not use that extra hardware space to put in extra buttons? Home, back, recent apps, shortcut key...
