[Q] Please HELP! My device won't start! - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Hi, I'm a noob. A friend recommended that I go to this site for help. First time I have attempted to root my YP-G70 using SuperOneClick and it was very easy - it says it's successful. I rebooted it and installed a couple of apps for rooted devices. I installed a couple of new fonts and it hanged so I rebooted my device again. After that, it won't turn on anymore. It shows the samsung logo and kept on vibrating. I already reset it, format my internal SD, reboot again but to no avail. It won't even turn off. I finally got it off when I attached the USB cable and charge it on my laptop. Please help me...I am desperate!... I really need a clear step-by-step guide as to how to get my device working again....thanks so much!!!

try the cleaning procedure by xrecovery data.
as follows: (press the lock button + volume up + Home at the same time)
hold until the symbol appears twice in samsung then you loose, it will enter the xrecovery, then the volume buttons alert you go to the "factory reset" after "delete all user data", as he was coming back again.

If it works do not forget to thank

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I've tried that many times but to no avail. I'd desperate... please advise other options. Thanks diguitozito.

I think you need to reput your rom. I dont know if the backup for the 5.0 is there.

How do I do that zaclimon? I really need a step by step guide... please help me....

Reflash the rom with odin3. Search in the forums or in google to get Odin3 + Firmware.

OK, got my device working again! And what's good about it is it's also upgraded to Gingerbread!!!

Samsung updated the firmware, thus, fixed your problem Otherwise, You need to use Odin if the next time you mess up something

Cannot Change anything on Phone

I guess I have to win a prize for a messed up phone.
Have been using the Lightning Rom with great success. Tonight I got an error message about the Android keyboard that is on the phone. Tried to reboot, still got it. Tried to reset phone, got the message.
Tried to reflash the rom and I have the identical setup, programs, contacts.
In other words, nothing is removed from the phone. It is as if the ROM can not be over written.
Have tried numerous things with no luck at all.
I am not even sure why this happened. Phone is not overclocked, just using this custom rom.
Any help would be much appreciated.
BTW. If I change the keyboard to Samsung from Android, the phone is usable. However on Powerup I have to go through the same procedure again.
Thanks all for the help

Hey, try to boot into CWM -> "power+home+volume up" press factory reset and wipe all. Then reboot the phone and go to download mode->"power+home+volume down" start odin and flash the latest kh3 original firmware as pda, after that you flash ur modem the same way.
Tell me if it worked for you. After beeing completely stock again, you can reroot/install cwm and get another custom rom!
Best regards!
Tried that already once. Maybe using wrong file. Am downloading the file you suggested. Nothing changes on the SD CARD. For example. I can hook the phone up to my computer and delete a file on the card. Reboot the phone and look on the computer again and the file is still there!!!
It is as though the SD CARD is set to read only and I don't know how to get around this problem.
Thanks for the response.

Just tried it agian with the same results. The data goes to the phone and then it reboots right back to the lightening ROM and gives an error message about the Android keyboard not working.
Any settings for sound notifications and such are all changed as well.
Once I change the keyboard to samsung I am ok, but if I change any notification sounds, they disappear the next time I boot up. Very strange.
thanks for the response.
Not sure what I am overlooking. The Rom is in a Read Only State.
Yikes

Tried to reflash the rom and I have the identical setup, programs, contacts.

Is it a NO Wipe rom ???
Phone full wipe CWM recovery mounts and storage
Format sd card data system and cache .
Phone is now empty and wont boot
Download mode flash new firmware via Odin .

Have already tried it. Diagnosis appears to be a bad EPROM or bad sdcard.

[Q] Captivate on CM7 stable stuck on ATT splash screen

Good morning. I've been lurking here for sometime but never posted before, but I'm hoping someone can help me with what appears to be a bricked captivate.
This morning I woke up to an unpleasant surprise. When I picked up my Captivate, running CM7 stable, I got a flood of messages about apps that were hanging. I ended up force quitting several of them and then decided to reboot the device. After rebooting my phone was stuck on the CM7 splash screen. I ran some updates from the Market last night, but can't think of any changes that those updates or I would have made to cause the system to become unstable.
I managed to use the three button method to get into recovery and tried clearing the cache and data and fixing permissions, but still was unable to boot the device (remained stuck on the CM7 splash screen.)
I then tried to do a recovery to a previous ROM that I had backed up (Cognition 4.x - I don't remember the exact versions but it was one of the last releases in the 4 series.) During the recover process the phone threw an error while trying to write the boot instructions. CM7 is a gingerbread ROM and Cognition 4.x was eclair, so I'm wonder if this effort to restore could be the reason that things have gotten worse.
Now I'm stuck on the ATT splash screen and am no longer able to get into recover via the 3 button method.
Not being able to get into recovery makes me fear that the phone may be bricked, but I'm hoping that someone on this forum may have an idea.
I appreciate any help that anyone has to offer.
Correction
One quick correction. The Cognition ROM I mentioned above is based on Froyo, not Eclair.
Thanks again for any help.
me too.... please help

shows how to put it in download mode. with the big triangle.
take the battery out, unplug it, put the battery in, hold down vol - and put in the USB. it takes a few tries, but i got it.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Sa...te_Guide#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery
will put clockworkmod back on your phone.
choose your rom.
i'm going to try the cyanogenmod nightly again, but at least you get recovery mode back, your phone isn't bricked yet.
i finally managed to get into download mode last night. even though i wasn't able to use the three button method to get into recover, i was able to hold the volume button, plug in the usb and get the phone into download mode. then i used odin3 to go back to stock. from there i rooted, re-flashed cm7 and then gone from there.
hope that helps.

Stuck at "Touch Android to Begin"

Alright Folks,
I have exhausted my search skills and probably messed up somewhere...Could use some guidance.
Background: I was updating a Slimrom and something went wrong on my end and I got stuck at Samsung boot screen. (Coulldn't get into recovery at all) I got to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 and followed the guide using ODIN and everything. Phone boots up but the back and search keys weren't working. Was able to make and receive calls but both parties couldn't hear each other. At this point I thought I should try rooting and get into recovery. I tried rooting using various methods ( DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0](zergRush Exploit), [1-Click Root][Video Tutorial][No Odin required]) but they didn't work and I was unable to get into recovery again.
I was glad that something is working. Its not a paperweight, yet. So then I thought this is the software for 9100 I should try getting stock to i777's software.
So after that I followed Entropy's Return/Unbrick to Stock, Kernel + Rooted System Package with Modem using Odin3 One-Click Downloader (Windows). Works fine ODIN says PASS. Boots with At&t logo and gets to "Touch android to begin" but when i touch it nothing happens. Couple pop ups appear time after time. "The application google services framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" Also about Synchronization and calender. I tried to search but can't seem to find anything Useful.
I can get into download mode only.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think you've actually searched, because it's been said s few times already that you have to boot into recovery and factory reset.

Thanks for the reply Nick. I did see that but thats the problem I am not able to get into recovery. The button combos are not working (Holding vol up, down and power until samsung screen comes on second time OR holding vol up, down and power and once screen comes on letting go of the power button)(from power down state, of course). I've tried multiple times. I did make a nandroid on my ext sd card before I flashed so if I could just get into clockwork recovery I would've tried restoring to that. I did read that there is an android recovery as well...I couldn't get into that either (I think).
Edit: I just tried it again and the Samsung screen comes on the second time but instead of going into recovery it goes to At&t boot screen and then to "touch android screen".
PS. I guess I should have stated clearly that I am unable to get into recovery for some reason. See, it was all making sense in my head when I writing the OP but I guess the point didn't get across. I wanted to be concise and precise. But I guess now the issue is more clear.

The only thing I can think of at this point then is maybe trying to use adb
Sent from my Zanpakuto using Getsuga Tensho!
Check out my signature. You can unzip the portable adb on your pc and try the reboot_recovery file. This will only work if your machine can detect your phone and you have the right drivers.

Worked like a charm. Restored to stock with root. Flashed a kernel with cwm. Flashed new ROM (to update to latest Cwm). Restored last backup. This bad boy is up and running like new. Thanks to all you folks.

[Q] SGH-I717: Firmware Upgrade Error

Hi,
BeforeI begin I would like to state the I have searched the forum for solutions but the ones i findthe person can get into DL mode the only one that is just like my issue doesnt show how ODIN worked for him. but anywho...
I have a Glaxy SGH-I717 and it is stuck at the "FIRMWARE UPGRADE ENCOUNTERED AN ISSUE. PLEASE SELECT RECOVERY MODE IN KIES & TRY AGAIN."
How this started was I newly installed Kies and tried to back it up, but by mistake started to upgrade it. not wanting to mess up the phone I let it run without the phone being in download mode. after a bit the upgrade failed and my phone was stuck at the error message screen above. to reboot the phone i have to remove the battery. pressing the button on turns it off but back on at the error screen. my computer makes the sound like it recognizes the phone but doenst show it in my computer. Kies just says connecting for awhile then stops.
Things I cant do with the phone
- get into download mode - when trying it goes the the press up or down button (ethier one goes to error screen)
- get into recovery mode - the samsung logo flashes for a second then goes to the error screen
things i have tried
- Using oding to flash ROM(tried two different files both from da_g for flashes)
each time odin states it failes at the write stage
- Kies emergency recovery (it freezes at 0% somtimes it says the phone is disconnected)
- Used one click fix program (made me click more then once)
I'am curently looking into trying the adb solution usind android sdk. just making the post here to see if anyone knew a easier solution to this.
Fixed
Problem is fixed, switched USB ports and found a different ROM to flash in ODIN. I now see why people love ODIN better then Kies

what ROM did you use? where can I find it? I have the same problem you had, except I was only trying to hard reset the sgh-i717 but the only option I could seem to get to was "A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications. If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key......" etc This is my friends phone I was just trying to hard reset it because she forgot her pattern lock, so I downloaded a ROM and odin and when I attempted to flash it, it got to that error screen you had. It lets me get back to the previous screen but always goes back to firmware upgrade issue screen no matter if i choose up or down. :crying: I have flashed a couple phones before by following tutorials on the web. I though it was only giving me that option because the phone might have already been rooted, it never let me go to the wipe data menu. The instructions all said to hold volume up + home + power, it never did anything for me. I was only able to get to the custom OS screen by holding volume down and power button. you were able to get back to the ready to flash screen? Tried taking out the battery and turning off with power button always goes back to Firmware upgrade encountered. Please help if you can, if I am breaking some forum rules sorry! just need help! Am running windows xp, since the phone was loccked have no idea what it was running, just that its an att samsung galaxy note sgh-i717. it saysin odin mode, custom binary download: no, current binary : samsung official.

I have read several forums searching for answers, no one ever stated that odin will still work while on the screen that said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..." pretty positive it flashed the lock screen background and the user settings that were on the lock screen are no longer there it had said something to the effect of " ____ password protected!" ill leave the blank up to your imagination. The user settings are gone but not the pattern lock! all I want to do is hard reset to eliminate the lock pattern lock???
Thanks

Sorry to rez such an old post but i broke screen on my current phone and needing another phone asap I ventured into the big bin labeled Misc Phone Parts and all i could find (screen came on)was my old Note. Popped in in Sim using an adapter.
And thought i was good until I saw Phone icon dots Yellow triangle dots PC monitor. Firmware Upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
After about 6 hours I do not have it working. I am not new to samsung flashing having flashed my first phone 4 years ago and since then installed 30 plus custom ROMS on all my Galaxy phones through out the years. Sure I can just find used much better phone but then this will not be resolved and will keep me up at night. (if your like this you know what I am talking about).

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 stuck on ATT splash screen. Please help!

I was going to theme my girlfriends Galaxy S5 with Nova Launcher, but when opening the app, for some reason the phone started to bootloop. It would show the Samsung Screen, then the ATT screen, then it would reach the home screen. After doing so, the same process would occur.
I wiped the dalvik cache and after that, the phone would just stop at the ATT splash screen, and has only done that since. It can last hours on that screen... which in my eyes, means the OS's system files are corrupted.
Now she just came back from Italy and had all of her pictures on the phone (which is only 2 weeks old). I am willing to do whatever to recover the pictures, as long as I don't void the warranty.
I can access the recovery mode and download mode on the device. I have Samsung Kies, ADB, an OTG cable, and a Note 3 for myself. What I am not willing to do is format the device...
Samsung Galaxy S5
ATT
Non Rooted
Stock ROM
Any help? It's all deeply appreciated!
Why not use Odin to reflash the official firmware? If I'm not mistaken, you shouldn't lose any of those pics...as long as you don't wipe data in recovery. I remember doing this for a friend and she was concerned about not losing any pics on her phone. Don't quote me on this though. Do it at your own risk.
If you have any questions, shoot me a PM

Hmm ... that sounds quite weird. I would just bring it back to support and see if they can do anything.
As for the pictures, I guess the "Android File Transfer" app might still be working if the OS boots up to a certain stage. Have you tried that one yet?

Thanks, I did some searching around and apparently it does wipe.
Bump. With me possessing her phone, she has no mobile device so I really want to make sure she can have a device soon.
Can anyone confirm the recovery by using Odin to flash official firmware?
Here are the steps you should do to recover your GF's phone,
1- download official firmware from Samsung-updates.com (make sure its official at&t firmware)
2- download Odin (this is used to flash official firmware)
3- unzip the firmware you downloaded. Inside should be .tar file. This is the file that must be flashed
4- unzip Odin if needed to, inside should be exe file to run Odin.
5- put phone into download mode (hold vol. Down + home button + power button same time) you'll get a screen where it asks you to press volume up or down to either cancel or proceed to download mode. Go into download mode
6- run Odin and plug in your phone
7- Odin should then recognize your phone telling which port your phone is plugged into (ex. Com4). If it is indeed connected and recognized move on to the next step.
8- press the PDA button on odin, a window should pop up where you can locate the .tar file. Look for the file wherever you extracted it to. After you find it double click it.
9- .tar file should now be in the PDA slot. (Please note that "auto reboot, reset time and pda should be the only boxes that should have a check, make sure nothing else is checked mark) by default the the checks should already be there and you shouldn't have to do anything but I thought I'd let you know just in case.
10- press start and wait till everything is done

After some research of my own, it seems that flashing the stock firmware over your phone will not wipe any data or apps as long as you didnt wipe/factory reset your phone in recovery
