[Q] Cannot use bluetooth DUN tethering while mobile data active - Optimus One, P500, V General

I have an LG Optimus S on sprint, but I think its basically the same as the optimus one so I am posting this in this forum...
I am able to initiate a dial up networking (DUN) connection with my phone to tether with my laptop but it will only work if I turn off mobile data via settings>wireless networks>mobile networks>data enabled>switch to disabled. I assume that for some reason when the phone is using the data connection the tethering fails because the data connection is already in use.
I am trying to figure out some way to get this to work without having to take the phone out of my pocket and turn off the data manually every time and then turn it back on when I am done.
Anyone had any issue like this or know anything to change to fix it?
I have tried PDAnet's bluetooth DUN but it has the exact same issue...
The strange thing that I have noticed is that the bluetooth tether works OK if the phone is connected via usb to a computer. It does not even have to be the computer that I am trying to tether with, just ANY computer. It makes no sense at all...
I am running a custom ROM and even tried flashing back to stock and the issue is still there so I know it is not a ROM bug.
NOTE: I use this for work and so am possibly willing to pay some freelance dev or someone to fix this issue if it requires a custom app or rom modification or something like that. Maybe there is a better forum/site to post a request like that?

Internet Sharing with a Mac? USB and/or BT

Hello all, I have the xv6800, dcd rom 3.3.4 and activesync and internet sharing setup on Windows just fine. However, I have recently gotten a MAC, and I have not been able to get the internet sharing to work via BT or USB. I can understand BT cause I was never able to get it set up on windows either. I don't mind the USB connection, it's alwasy been more stable and a snap to set up with the ROM. However I can't get it working on the MAC. Is there a driver or app that needs to be installed on the mac side? The only think I remember doing on the WIN side is installing the modem driver.
On Mac, I have installed Missing Sync installed and I have been able to attach and sync my winmo phone without issue, so I know I have connection. but I cannot get the internet sharing to work. I checked out the verizon site and they state that they do not make a modem driver for the mac os.
I should also mention that I have winXP set up on the mac thru VMware, but I have been unsuccessful getting this to work the way my original windows laptop is setup. I dont want to set it up that way anyway if I can avoid it.
I am curious if anyone has this working via USB?? I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere. I couldn't find anything related and certainly not specific to this ROM.
I did find this, http://www.keithtastic.com/post/3997...-to-sprint-htc, but it states to buy an app called USB Modem program from www.mobile-stream.com. but wouldnt the ISC app on the dcd rom provid the same functionality?
Thanks for any/all help
i use BT in OSX... system prefs, bluetooth, setup a connection to the phone(+ button)... hit the bluetooth icon on the menubar, select the phone -> connect to network, thats all i have to do.

then just use internet sharing form the phone as normal?
no offense but that didnt help at all. I can connect my phone via BT themac sees it, but all I can do is browse device. I need to set up a connection with my phone to the mac and get online via my phone. I dont careif its bluetooth or not. I have the new macbook btw, if it matters
goon55: Like you, I always used a VM workaround to tether back when I had a Mac. I haven't tried this, but I've heard Syncmate allows Internet Sharing on Mac systems. Good luck!
I have no issues connecting my macbook for my 6800.
After you set it up like the other poster told you to, you should have a phone icon next to the bluetooth icon at the top right of the screen. click the phone icon then "connect bluetooth".

also when setting up the BT relationship, make sure you select the network services (i believe, there are one or two services you can check)...on the phone make sure you start BT and internet sharing (with BT selected) and when you go to the BT menu on the mac, your phone name should be under "devices", expand your phone name and select connect to network.
just trying to clarify a bit.
i had it
i had bt working for a bit and then was disconnected abruptly.
after deleting the profiles of the pairings on both the titan and the mac, it still wont share the connection although the phone will be connected in bt system prefrence pane, (where you select devices).
when it worked, i would select the phone in the device select, and underneath clicking on the gear to a menu option to 'connect to network'
it worked that wayfor 3 mins.
also, when i configure the device, if i set the phone to internet share while the mac is discovering the services, i get two options to select instead of just one:
access the internet
use device as network port.
edit: got it, apple talk active
best software you can use is http://www.wmwifirouter.com/ it works over BT or wifi and uses your phone's regular data access address which means you don't get tethering charges. NOTE I use the free version, and I have tried the tiral and although it does work, my mogul does not seem to like it and has little quirks after I install it (wifi turns on when I reset even if the switch is off, I don't why but its there).
Hi everyone, I've been trying to use my Windows Mobile phone as a modem for the Macbook, but so far I only see people being able to connect via BT. Problem with that for me is that BT drains both my laptop and phone battery quicker, so I'm trying to find a solution to connect via USB instead. Has anyone been able to surf on their Mac using their Windows Mobile phone as a modem via USB cable?
What you want is Mobile Stream USB Modem for Windows. Windows here being Windows Mobile, it works with my Mac.
Once you set it up, your phone is seen as a USB Modem and you dial from the Mac to this port. There is a free trial, take time to test it, read the forums, I had some initial issues to get it work right, but now it is good, I ended up purchasing it.
Tried BT sharing too, but too instable and drops. Tried the WiFi sharing, but eats battery...
Only downside: as you dial the data modem, it will fail if it is already in use (background email checking on your phone...). I have to disconnect the data connection on the phone to be able to dial from the Mac, otherwise it reports Port Busy.
Thanks for the recommendation, will try it out. Any other solutions in the meantime to connect and share the Internet connection from my Windows Mobile phone to Mac via USB?
I had the same problem, and tried everything recommended in the thread - no dice. I ended up just installing WMWifiRouter and that works like a champ.

This is for cingular, but I'm sure this can be attempted no matter what the provider.
I've been looking for a solution as well, and have yet to find one for USB Internet Sharing on a Mac. I currently just use Bluetooth with an external charger on the phone and laptop since it'll eat the battery of both quickly.

[Q] Noob needing help - root/tether

I bought my first smartphone ever last month to give you an idea how new I am. My last phone was a Touch that I had set up to allow tethering... but I had to upgrade my phone. I need my tethering back, and I prefer not going through a program like pda-net.
So, I read that if I root the phone, I'd have tethering back. I used Revolutionary. I backed up my phone. I installed clockwork and superuser. I think I did everything I'm supposed to do. However, when I plug the phone in (I prefer USB tethering) and click the "Internet Connection Mode", I still get the message I need to subscribe for $20 a month, and I don't get a connection. Do I need to do something else to enable wired tethering? Do I have to install a 3rd party program as well? Or is it that I haven't installed a custom ROM/Kernel/Radio/Whatever would be the right thing?
The phone is a Thunderbolt. HTC Sense 2.1, Software #2.11.605.5, Android version 2.3.4.
I really don't have much of an idea what I'm talking about, so if anyone has any fairly easy answers, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help.
Find my WiFi tether thread and follow instructions

Do what lantern says. Just rooting does not unlock the built in internet sharing apps. You need to get the apps that do what you want now. I.e. wireless tether, you might like wired but wireless is very nice.

Grnlantern79,
Well, I've tried following your instructions on the other thread. I downloaded the .apk you had listed.
That took me an hour to figure out how to install... didn't know I needed to install another program to install something from a memory card.
As for these instructions:
"Mine did not work until I changed the device profile to Thunderbolt in settings.
Then I changed a few other settings such as
Force WiFi driver reloading (check) *has worked for some*
Routing fix (check) *most important one*
Disable wake-lock (unchecked) -> *this is why you lose connection after your screen turns off*"
I can't for the life of me find where any of these are. I've spent a good amount of time trying to find them, and just can't seem to find a settings section.
Then I tried Autotethering and WiFi Tether from the Market. It doesn't matter which I use, when I hit "Internet Connection Mode" the Verizon $20 to use message pops up. I tried on two computers, and both will see something there, but not connect to the internet. I tried connecting without selecting that, but it still didn't work (had it on "charge only").
I'm very frustrated... I've spent hours working on this and don't feel like I'm making any progress. I appreciate you attempting to help via that other thread, but I'm lost. If you have any way of giving me a more detailed explanation of how to get this to work, I would greatly appreciate it.
If I just install some new ROM and not work off the rooted stock one I have, would they come with the tethering block from Verizon disabled?
Thanks for any advice.
Telaeus
When you open WiFi tether press menu the soft key at bottom of your phone, the settings will pop up.
Device profile = thunderbolt
Routing fix = check box
Enable access control
Now I can tell you are not tech savy so this is where my help stops. If you can't find the settings in a program after an hour, you should think about return your smart phone for a feature phone.

Well, thanks for trying to help then Grnlantern79. I had misunderstood where to look for the settings. Figured it was settings on the phone itself I was changing to bypass the Verizon Internet Connection thing.
I changed all the settings in WiFi tether. Still no luck. The computer recognizes the network... I set it to Public. It's listed as HTC Remote NDIS Based Device. However, there is no Internet or Network access. I'm not putting it to "internet connection mode" since the Verizon popup has never gone away... leaving it on Charge only.
If anyone else is willing to try and assist me, I would appreciate it. I fully admit to not being smartphone savvy. However, I'm not incapable as Lantern implies... I've built my own computers since 1993, and can diagnose and do pretty much anything hardware related. Unfortunately, smartphones are different, and I'm still getting up to speed on all the terminology and uses of them.
So, thanks Lantern... but is anyone else able to figure out why this isn't working?
Thanks for any help.
Enable access control
Check
WiFi driver reload
Routing fix
Uncheck
Disable wake lock
Setup-method
Apple computer
Wext

softtap
Set computer profile to home network.
When u connect to ur phone it wireless not usb, ur phone will have a notification asking if its ok to connect, hit enable. Done.

[Q] WiFi Tethering issue

Hi I recently restored my s3 to factory reset but after that I am not able to connect any devices (phones or laptop )with wifi tethering
Prior to reset it was working fine. I have not rooted my phone.
Do I have to reset it again? Any other possible solutions?
Can you explain it in more detail? If using hotspot, are your phone close enough with the device you want to paired? Did you try bluetooth or usb tethering? Did your phone have data connection?
Having major issues with tethering on my SGS3 aswell.
When I recieved the phone, stock out of the box, I was unable to get tethering working, it worked for 10-60mins then automatically turned off.
I rooted the phone, and tried various tethering apps, and finally (after a couple of days) managed getting FoxFi to give me a stable tether.
Now I've installed the latest FW, and Im back to square 1 (or even further back), FoxFi puts up an access point, but after being connected 10-60mins, tethering stops working, and the connection dissapears from the list on my computer. FoxFi still reports it's running, so I have to turn it off, then back on to get another 10-60 minutes.
Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always
Build Number: IMM76D.I9300XXBLH3
Android Version: 4.0.4
Considering trying Cyanogenmod, but I really like the stock room and wish to stay on it.
USB tethering is out of the question, as I use it for Xbox360, PS3, talet etc.
For those wondering, usually having 10/8 mbps @ 80ping, limited to 20GB traffic a month, aint that bad tbh.
Might just gotta get me a proper and wired internet connection instead.
Anyone got any idea what so ever what might cause this? Ill be more than willing to post logs etc, just tell me how.
One more thing, some of the tethering apps gives Ad Hoc error, FoxFi the only I've not getting this error on (of those Ive tried atleast).

[Q] USB Tethering, "Always On" mobile conn. - 2.13.651.1

I'm curious as to whether anyone else has USB tethering actually working on rooted stock 2.13.651.1. I've added the 'ro.tether.denied=false' to by system/build.prop and when I connect my phone to the computer, it acts as if it's tethering but no internet is passed thru from the phone to the computer, making USB tether useless as of right now. No, I don't want to use a third party app for it.
Also, is there any way to have my 'always-on mobile connection' enabled, like what used to be available on almost all phones' settings menu?
So... nobody knows?
Guess not... that's disappointing.

[SOLVED] Samsung Galaxy S2 Virgin Mobile Wireless Tethering Issue

Hi,
My apologies if this is the incorrect section. I know the Virgin Mobile SGS2 is NOT the I9100 model, however the correct phone was not listed on this site (nearest is the T-Mobile model, but the options differ on their phone).
I'm experiencing an issue with trying to enable the wireless hotspot option for my phone. In every instance I have tried, I have received errors that ad-hoc failed to start and related problems. Let me make it clear that this version of the samsung galaxy DOES NOT have the option to turn on wireless tethering in the native settings menu (it's simply not there). My carrier most likely hid the option because it is an extra $15 a month to use the feature. I can, however, attempt to start the hotspot service with a third party app, but it runs for no more than 3 seconds and I get error 67:" Unable to connect to data network, turning off Hotspot..."
My phone is rooted and I have full access to edit system files (I did so to remove the ear-piercing camera shutter noise). I am using the stock rom and do not intend to flash a different rom to this phone. To lessen redundant suggestions that have been said hundreds of times and have failed to fix my issue, here is everything I have done:
Attempted to use FoxFi. All this app does is start the native hotspot capability on your phone, so I got the same error 67. No network connection. The network only appears for a split second when enabling the native hotspot setting, but since the phone turns it off, I can't connect to it.
Attempted to use Barnacle. I receive the error "Could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Operation not supported on transport endpoint."
Attempted to use Wifi Tether for Rooted Users (for some reason this app is listed as "Not Compatible" for my phone in Google Play). Again, I receive an error that setting ad-hoc failed. All other services start successfully though, but the network does not appear for my PC to connect to.
Checked to make sure my 3G/4G is actually on and functioning.
Despite all this, I CAN utilize the USB tether feature just fine in PdaNet. It's the wireless hotspot that is eluding me. I know that flashing a different rom can get me around this issue, but I really would prefer to resolve this problem without doing that if it's possible. One thread I read said something about editing a .db file, but it was for an HTC phone and I'm a little wary to try it on my phone. I'm sorry for coming off rather cross, but I'm just a bit frustrated as every solution I find never works. It seems like this would be a simple thing to do. Is there a system file I can edit that will allow my phone to enable its native hotspot capabilities? Or something that will resolve the ad-hoc issue? Or am I blindly over-looking something obvious? If nothing will work except for flashing, then hey, at least I tried. It's not going to kill me if I can't get the wireless tethering to work, but it was one of the reasons I wanted to root my phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I randomly figured out the problem myself. Downloaded something on a whim and it actually worked. Let me go through each step so anyone else who has this same problem can try this out.
The majority of what I did can be followed here:
*Can't post the link. Thank you, forum restrictions... It's from a website called "highonandroid.com" so google that with the appropriate keywords (wifi tether, android, etc.).
But in case the link goes dead or something like that, here is a step-by-step reiteration:
1. Download Trev-E's mod for the Wifi Tether for Root Users app. I have the exact version I used attached to this post.
2. Install it, and immediately go to settings and make the following adjustments:
- Change device profile to "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)."
- Change setup-method to "Netd-Ndc (master)."
- Tick the option "Send Netd Max Client Cmd."
- Tick "Wifi driver reload." The second one did not work for me, but try it if the first reload does nothing.
- Although the original tutorial says to tick "MSS clamping," this option is not available on my phone. But this did not stop the app from working.
3. Exit settings and hit the wifi icon. Fingers crossed it works for you!
After doing that, the app showed no errors in the log, the network name appeared on my computer, and I was able to connect effortlessly. Most importantly, the internet worked!
Also, enabling/disabling the tether DID NOT break my phone's wifi or 3G service. Everything ran fine when I stopped using the app and I didn't need to restart my phone. Putting this out there because I know some phones will trip out when enabling this feature. Good luck! And big thanks to xda's Trev-E for the app.
Thank you! That was driving me nuts trying to tether my GS2 to my tablet. I dont have the clamping option either but its working perfectly when nothing else has.
Nice instructions. I rooted my phone today (root virgin), downloaded the trev-e you have linked and got it to work. (Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy SII 4G)
I then tried to use encryption and the phone was just not having it, the internet connection wouldn't work anymore (laptop was connected but said there was no internet access). Frooze up the phone, had to reboot, frooze again, reboot, turn the feature off, freeze, reboot, pull battery etc etc. Finally have it working again with encryption off.
Pretty happy to have tethering working, but wish I could encrypt it haha.
Do I have the wrong TrevE using the stock ROM? (using the TrevE linked in this thread).
Now to learn what else to do in the wonderful world of being rooted...
*** EDIT- Looks like installing busybox fixed the issue!!
Thanks!
Awesome work, follow the instructions if you have virgin mobile it will work perfectly
