Stock firmware or custom ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can any one explain me please what is the difference between rooted stock firmware with all bloatware removed with Titanium back up and custom ROM?
thanks

Why don't you look in one of the custom ROM threads and read its features, maybe you'll find something?

Well we'll well...
Stock rooted firmware bloat removed is an original firmware with root/su so as to allow system changes hence boat removed.
Custom will be "pimped" all speed tweaks / themes etc etc.

[REQ][VPad7]WWE or European stock ROM

Hi,
I've been looking everywhere, and I can't believe that no-one has made a stock ROM yet. I backed up my stock partitions using the cat method mentioned in lakehousetech's backup, root & recovery thread.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to extract or repack my system.img file. I'm looking for a stock ROM with all languages (WWE) or at least European languages such as Danish.
Here's my system.img. Maybe someone's able to extract it.

I'm currently developing a custom rom based on Eu stock rom froyo 2.2
I have a working update.zip with almost all tweaks from CleanViewpad v1.1 by googlehome
When i have enough posts to post links i will create a new topic with my v1.0 for others who would like to try it.

That sounds awesome! But will you also please make a complete stock ROM without tweaks, root etc.? That would be great!
Sorry, can't help you with that. Earliest backup i have of Stock firmware is already rooted.
I'd super appreciate it, if you shared that backup

[Q] A few questions about rooting and custom roms.

Hi
Im new to rooting phones and have rooted my Samsung galaxy s3 GT-I9300. Im running 4.1.1 on it and rooted it using odin and CF-ROOT-SGS3-v6.tar.
Ive got CWM manager and superuser on it and have backed up my apps using titanium back up and backed up the rom using ROM manager.
What I want to know is can anyone recommend a ROM that is like the stock one but with added features such as multi window and takes away a lot off the added Samsung stuff thats not really needed and also runs smooth without eating up too much battery?
Can I just update my kernel or do I need to install a custom ROM?
Can I install the new ROM using ROM manager?
Do I need to move any backed up apps and current rom off the phones memory to an external SD card before installing a custom rom?
Do I need to take into account the Baseband version (mine is I9300XXELJ2) when looking what roms I can install or does it simply have to be for the S3 I9300?
Sorry if my questions seem a bit daft or if Ive not given enough information. Im new to all this and want a custom rom that will hopefully offer a bit more than the standard one but dont want to brick my phone
Thanks in advanced.

I would recommend sotmax ROM or android revolution ROM which is both close to stock ROM and my favorites. But you have to try for yourself to know.
You can use custom kernel after rooting. But read the op to see if compatible.
ROM manager can install ROMs but only with the premium version if I'm not mistaken. Alternatively just use cwm to flash. Fast and easy.
Backup apps depends on what you using. Titanium backup? Usually backed up apps are safely stored. And can restore in any ROM after flashing.
Baseband usually will be along with custom ROM.
All in all if you read the op in first post of each thread and follow steps. Bricking is usually a non issue. But as always make a full backup before flashing.
Happy flashing

No need to move the backups anywhere unless you're gonna wipe your internal SD.
Baseband doesn't matter, just flash anything for the i9300.
And don't ask for best ROMs, it's against the rules

So does the baseband in the rom have to match the one on my phone or can I install any rom and my baseband will just change and all will be fine?
This is going to seem stupid but what do you mean by op?
To install or flash a rom using CWM do I just click recovery mode in the app and continue from there?
Thanks for the quick response,
first, read the basic guides.
op means the first post
BASICS.

You can't have Samsung features on an AOSP (aka stock Android) based ROM. Its integrated into Samsung ROMs.
For best of both world's you can dual boot two ROMs using Siyah kernel 1.8.9 eg. A Samsung ROM (ex: stock) and an AOSP based one (ex: CM10.1)
Before experimenting copy backups to an external SD card or your PC.

Anono ROM gives high performance stability and great battery life
Other than that it is like stock

[Q] looking for an odin flashable debloated rom based on 4.2.2 leak

hey guys im looking for a rom or even some mods for the 4.2.2 leak . I specifically would like to debloat and zipalign my current rom. I have so far been able to root and get rid of some apps. I also removed the boot animation and the shutdown animation as well. I also removed the csc . I prefer to use mobile odin because of the flash counter thing. also using a custom recovery leaves my phone status as custom or modified. I prefer official or normal. problem is almost all mods and roms that deal with the leak require custom recoveries. I want to change my csc from nothing to afr if this is possible. also would like to install stock boot animatin. I have searched and found instructions to apply these mods but they have not worked. the deleting part worked but installing has not. I tried root explorer. rom toolbox pro , and mobile odin. any ideas?.
That is something you are unlikely to find .

There are some 4.2.2 baesd-on ROM in development section.
And yet you can remove bloatware yourself

Odin flashable ???
i think i will leave well enough alone till the unbranded firmware is released
thanks guys I don't really need a csc code for now . as not having one does not negatively affect my phone .also debloating manually is not difficult. I got rid of all the carrier apps. the ones I can see anyway. also no boot animation is not really a problem. phone is working fine. benchmarks are better. battery is good.and the official release is probably one month away. best of all my phone status is official. .
your flash counter went up though
nope sorry

You seriously need to learn to search. This is like your 6th question

Judging from your questions here, and in the two private messages you sent to me, you need to learn more about the phone before you do any further modifications. I would hate to see you damage your phone.
The firmware you flashed, Entropy stock plus root UCKK6, contains a bone stock kernel, and a completely stock factory file system which has had superuser and su injected into it.
Please don't use anything from zedomax on this phone, as many have reported issues with his tools, some that were serious.
Use the Siyah 2.4.16 kernel. There is a .tar version there.

[Q] Deodex stock rom?

Hello guys, I have a rooted GT-I9300 on stock android 4.3 with philz touch recovery.
So I like S5 a lot, but I can't afford one obviously. However, I would like to flash S5 stuffs like launcher and accuweather widget on this device. I've been struggling for some time, trying to find a way to deodex the stock android 4.3 rom. I came across a few methods like the xUltimate, titanium backup and so on, but none of these methods seems to work on our beloved S3... I'm not sure whether xUltimate works for S3 but so far I never come across S3 user who successfully deodex their device using this method. Titanium backup doesn't seems to work too since it only deodex apps, not the firmware... I know I can easily do this by flashing a deodexed stock rom, but I don't really want to flash another rom yet...
I'm sorry to ask this, but I'm running out of idea, so guys, is there any way to deodex the stock android 4.3 rom so that I can install mod like S5 launcher? Thank you for your help!
Any helps guys? I really can't find a proper solution
Why not use one of the stock roms here on xda that have already been deodexed by an expert?

Odex rom seems to perform better and more battery-friendly compared to a deodexed rom. I think it would be better for me to learn how to deodex/re-odex the rom so that I can re-odex the rom after I finished installing mods to ensure the best performance.
This thread is going down any helps?
