Best Buy TF201 backordered notice (12/19/2011) - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

it means no Christmas gift for me. Now seriously I just got a "friendly" email from Best buy explaining me my order has been backordered, I'm cancelling right now(a $650 order with dock), 2-3 more weeks waiting is totally unacceptable, I pre-ordered mine on November 23th, by the time tf201 is out, it will be only 2 weeks away from ipad 3 release, and there won't be any guarantees asus will deliver on time, it may be another delay. I will better wait for apple 3(already have an ipad 2 and tf101), so long asus.

Thanks, the more pre-orders that cancelled, the sooner I get mine!

iPad 3 isn't coming out in late January.

i got the same email

I am in the same boat. This was the sole gift for my 7 year old Autistic son.
I can understand the supply issues with a preorder product. However, I was in contact with Best Buy every day and, although each rep had a different story, all we ensuring me that I would get this by Christmas and that there were no problems with the order getting filled. Then, of course, they backorder the thing on the VERY LAST FULL SHOPPING DAY OF THE YEAR. Now most places are bare, will not be getting more shipments and a very unlikelihood of being able to order anything online for the holiday. To butter it up, Besy Buy reps have not made any offer to make good on this screw up. At least Gamestop and Amazon gave out credits.
I am going to be calling to make a huge stink today. I am not cancelling until I have the product from somewhere else, but I am going to spread the same holiday cheer they have with me.
By the way, feel free to contact the corporate offices and the CEO to send your holiday wishes as well:

Have you ever once considered that it is asus who is giving you the shaft? Seriously, they've pushed back the release date over and over and still have never given a solid date that it will be released. I'm sure BB wants to make money, they are not delaying orders just to piss people off here.

Has anyone considered that no one is giving anyone the shaft, that crap sometimes happens that corporations cannot foresee? I think asus cannot keep up with the demand, and Best Buy probably had way to many people order. Granted the communication has been horrible, from every company dealing with this. I am in the same boat as you guys, waiting for it, but I do not believe that anyone set out to do this.

It's more that they should've informed their customers that Asus is being stupid. Of course they said the 18th was just an ETA, but I was told countless times that there is no reason to believe it won't be shipping on that date. I had one guy tell me it had shipped to UPS and should get a shipping confirmation soon. All of that is unacceptable.

Remember the last 2 ipads re announced in Feb and did not ship until April. I would guess this one will be no different. Good luck getting one in February.

Best Buy is responsible for fulling orders. If they did not have stock then they should not have been taking pre-orders. Other vendors did this, so Best Buy should be able to do it too. There's other things like maybe letting people know sooner their order would not be fulfilled.
I expect a retailer to be able to count.

I agree. Best Buy is the one that changed the dock's shipping date from 12/31 to 12/19. They could have send an email in advance about the delay issue. Now I won't have a Christmas present due to this "Primegate" fiasco.

They did the same with the delayed release of the Thunderbolt. They are incompetent. I was giving them a second chance but now I am fed up with them. I canceled and ordered with Amazon again. I save Tax and shipping that way. When I have to wait until the new year then I want at least the best deal.

Asus' CEO publically said "November" for release. Then Asus said "12/9." Then Asus said "12/19." Then Asus said "the week of 12/19." They'll make their last commitment but by sending far fewer units to far fewer resllers then they originally planned. The Galaxy Nexus was a highly anticipated device for VZW. They didn't officially launch it until their was enough inventory in the pipeline (stores, VZW.com, resellers) so that people looking for it didn't have to pull their hair out. Something happened that screwed up Asus' ability to honor their original commitments to resellers. Since they're a public company, they will have forecast "x" amount of Prime sales in 2011. We'll see when they file their Q4 earnings report how badly they missed their earlier projections. Bottom line is they rushed the product to be first to market with Teg3, encountered issues and had no slack in their timeline to deal with them, and are claiming victory by eeking out a small quantity of product this year.

Totally not true. BB, like Amazon, was told by Asus how much initial inventory they'd be receiving and what the flow would be subsequently. They sold pre-orders based on those commitments. Asus botched the commitment causing both BB and Amazon to have to cancel or back-order customer orders. Amazon deserves props for getting the message out early and at least giving their customers an option to find a "plan B."

This happened last time. I'm really not sure what the exact cause of it is but it seems like their production/supply chain/delivery process is unreliable.
You would think they would have learned something the first time...
Honestly, a delay wouldn't be too bad. But, they have to be public about it -- not leave customers in the dark. This whole time they're trying to market this thing by giving it away on facebook but people who actually want to buy the thing, can't. Where is Asus's official message about these botched commitments? Asus isn't as big as some companies but it isn't a small company either; they should have said something by now. You limit the damage by being upfront with your customers.

As an update, I called and gave the rep a hard time expressing my opinion that Best Buy needed to make some attempt to make good. Finally after asking for free next day shipping and some sort of compensation for not getting anything for christmas, I was told they could not credit the order, but got an "issue number" to call back after it ships to get reimbursed for the shipping cost. Also they are sending me a $25 gift card.
It sucks to have to ask for this. I told them that upgrading the shipping was in their best interest because if I find it somewhere else they lose a sale. Of course, after they changed the order my status went from backordered to order in process, but I am sure this will revert back and was only because the order was changed.

You're spot on. I've seen Asus' CEO speak and he's a bit of a character. His ego's also as big as a house. I'm guessing instead of letting the product drive the timeline he mandated the reverse. Product management's reported to me and this consequence is what happens when dates become more important then quality - in either the product or roll-out. Nine women can't have a baby in a month.

I think you're right. I think it's partly cause their CEO's a cowboy. I think the other part is that Asus made a strategic decision to be big in tablets (unlike, say, Acer, whose support is half-hearted). Asus wanted to be technology leader, in hardware, and OS, but had to hit the window before iPad 3 was released. So the CEO pushed, and drove the organization to the point where, as you say, dates drove the product, rather than conversely.
I for one, appreciate the strategic decision, and that emphasis is why I decided to return my Acer A500, and just wait for the Asus TF. I understand bleeding edge, vs leading edge, and pre-ordered one from BB on 12/4. So I got the 2 week wait email also. I was hoping for "on-time" delivery, but would have been surprised had it arrived before Christmas. So now it's a matter of managing my "wants" more than cursing BB.
That doesn't stop me from disliking BB's pre-order and order management practices. I doubt I'll online order from them again.

I've had a few issues with them on some stuff but I had no idea how disjointed their order and dispatch systems were until the Prime incident(s). You'd think that after the death of CompUSA and Circuit City they'd have made some investments in their infrastructure. They managed this process far worse than some much smaller resellers.

Easiest thing would be to call their customer service. However I had good luck with the TF101 getting one when Newegg was selling them at launch and I have faith in them now. I keep checking my Pre-Order and my email as well as the sight for any updates. I've seen them update the Asus tablet page and remove the other tablets and put them back. Unless they wait until the last minute to update the page we may luck out and get it early. Otherwise they can always fallback on the fact that it says ETA and not actual release date.
For what it's worth, since I am a Campus Rep for ASUS, I can tell you all that the company has pretty strong ties with Newegg as that's who we use for our official campus store. If any company gets them on release date my bet would be with Newegg.
Just my two cents

Not wanting to read into it but is 12/8 the actual release date? Since thats the date most retailers had initally before they changed it to the following week or two afterwards. If so then I definitely expect Newegg to have it on the date listed especially since every other retailer has been covering themselves and changed their dates while Newegg hasn't.

Who was the source in Taiwan. Do we have someone on record as saying that? I know all of the media outlets were stating those dates on the day of the conference but I was never sure of an actual source.
What are they telling you as campus sales rep. When will you have one (or more) in hand?

I was skeptical for the same reason because no source was ever mentioned, no picture of any date was shown, nor was any video of the conference recorded.
My job is not as a sales rep... Just a Campus Rep. I'm supposed to promote the awareness and benefits of the products on campus by holding demo events, Q&A's, and reviewing new products. I'm going to contact my boss to see if I can get some more details.

Thanks that would be great. Sorry that I erroneously added 'sales' into your title. Not sure why I made you a salesman. I think it would help your cause on campus to be able to definitively state when the product is available. Here's to hoping your boss has an answer!

It would really make my weekend if they shipped it out on the 8th!! Anyone know if it is possible to change shipping address on a newegg order? Their customer rep said I couldn't change since the order was "on hold". Will be hard for me to time it right so I can change the shipping address right after they receive it, but before they ship it out...
I forgot to put my office address in there and don't want them to leave it outside my house, or worse yet - take it back to the UPS hub on the day of delivery.

My Best Buy pre-order says the 18th, but I was told I'd have it on the 13th. Maybe that date is for the in store date? Hoping so!
I love Newegg, but I have had some bad experiences with their pre-order stuff. Normally the release date is wrong, it comes later than the real release date, and once I got the incorrect product. I would hope they have gotten better, but when I made my preorder I stuck to Best Buy that had a physical presence so I could return or exchange without a hassle (hopefully) if there is a problem.
However, the official release date is the 19th for the US. There have been a lot of rumors and Asus officials have no been in sync with the information, but this finally seems official.

Nevermind the 8th in the title, this article was updated. So the Best Buy date of the 18th is probably correct because that is when they will ship it. I just hope they have enough stock.

First time doing a pre-order with Newegg personally but I've bought lots of items from them in the past and have always been really good service. Of course service will always differ from one experience to the next. The way I see it is if they do get them on the 8th and ship them then thats a plus. If they get them on the 8th and ship the following week it falls in line with that 12th date that was thrown around with the 18th. And if it's not until the 18th then well it's the same as everyone else. All that matters at this point is when we all recieve the device. Unfortunately the site you linked to doesn't have anymore concrete information than any of the other sites. They reference the launch trailer we all saw as having the date and I watched it again to make sure I didn't miss something and there is no date in that trailer. So again we are all just playing the wait game until these merchants recieve and ship out our devices.

yeah i called about a week ago and they told me 18th to 23rd and i asked they clarify what that meant. As in day shipped or day received and the lady said 18th would be earliest day i would have it in my hands and 23rd being the latest. This was at best buy but i should also note it sounded to me like she just read off the computer a generic product shipment statement. No real knowledge when it came to the prime. This was at best buy. For anyone wondering i ordered the 27th champ. 32gb no dock. I wanna know why u think the 13th too before i get my hopes up...
**edit- I figured i should also note for people wondering this was for standard free shipping. i was talking to her about upgrading shipping and once she told me 18th to 23rd i decided to leave it alone.
Just browsing Asus's product site, I noticed that the "preorder" list had been removed (unless I'm looking at the wrong page: http://eee.asus.com/en/eeepad/transformer-prime/features). I went to the "where to buy" tab and looked through some of the sites listed - a couple of places that weren't on the initial preorder list have them up now - J&R as we all know, but also allasus.com and PC Mall. I went ahead and called PC Mall to check on delivery time and the rep told me Dec. 12th. Now, of course, I doubt that is accurate, but it's news at least.

Finally got the delay email... Bad news...

Here goes:
Dear (ME),
Unfortunately, we just received word that the ASUS Transformer Primehas been delayed worldwide and will most likely not be available beforeChristmas. ASUS feels the WiFi range does not currently meet their standardsand has delayed all shipments worldwide. At the moment there is no ETA and noinformation on available quantities on the first batch.
If this was intended as a gift, we would like to recommend changing toa different tablet to ensure on time delivery for the holidays. Otherwise, werecommend keeping your order in place to hold your position in the queue for atablet once they are available. If you decide you would like to have yourorder cancelled, please contact our customer care department here:

In the meantime, we would like to offer you a $25 off coupon on anyother in stock tablet.

Please find a tablet that suits your needs and add to your shoppingcart. Then add the coupon code “Tablet25-914091” to the couponcode field on the top right of the Shopping Cart page to receive $25 off yourpurchase. This coupon code will expire December 31st.

Thanks for that info. I find it most interesting that Asus still hasn't officially come out and said anything. Well anything other than how many people are enjoying their tablet. My question is though that obviously if this is a worldwide issue, if Asus choose to postpone the canadian launch and reroute a known good batch of tablets to some of their US retailers. I say this since both GameStop and BestBuy both seem to be sticking to launch dates of the 19th which means they must be getting tablets from Asus. Also which is why other retailers are stating after christmas and why Amazon canceled orders. Because they knew they wouldn't get enough from Asus to meet demands.
While this does suck, it could however mean that they will launch with ICS. Asus wouldn't delay a launch for a software issue, so this is likely a hardware issue and will require the entire lineup to be redone which will take sone time.

The other possibility is that bestbuy and gamestop are just much slower to send the info down through their internal channels and to their customers. NCIX and memory express in canada are much smaller so maybe they simply are getting the info out quicker. Who knows though

While that is always a possibility, some people are recieving status updates on their orders with the docks shipped date being moved up from BestBuy to the 19th, the same day as the tablet, without the tablet date being pushed back. Also with GameStop they always stop taking orders on special items when they meet their quota. If they stopped because they reached their quota that means they know how many they are getting and since they haven't told customers that they are delayed and even promised to ship a few tablets to non-tablet stores, they are pretty confident in their stock and probably already have them in their warehouse for distribution.

Lets hope So. Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us. We are to close now. A week n 3-4 days Prime should be in my hands. I was told the 19th several times when I preordered a few weeks back. Haven't called to check since. As I felt confident they will have it. Some places already have them in the back but can't distribute them until the 19th.
Asus should just give all of us who preordered from GameStop a free controller and dock for our troubles.

Probably not going to cancel, so feel free to grab that code if you want 25$ off a new tablet from NCIX.

Apparently they know what the problem is and are able to turn it around quickly.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/5178/an-update-on-transformer-prime-battery-life-wifi-issues
The guys (if history is any indicator) at AnandTech have been pretty spot on with both release dates and reviews, check out there review on the Prime as an example. They were (as far as I know) the first to point out a problem with the WiFi. Of course Asus told them it was a defective unit (suspect), regardless they withheld there final analysis until they received a second unit which did "not" exhibit the same WiFi issues, which then to me means, they are able to fix it quickly, maybe a ROM update or something, IDK, regardless we will see. GameStop where I have mine on pre-order here in Houston continues to tell me it will be available on the 19th. I am a personal friend of the manager, his wife works with my wife ...kinda thing. If he had heard anything to the contrary he would tell me, so for now...on target.
Ouch. Even if we get tablets on-time they're likely to be busted. The wifi on the demo unit at GameStop definitely was fluctuating wildly both times I played with it, I had assumed the signal just sucked, but I didn't compare to my phone.
It's also concerning that the "fixed" one was still much more impeded than the original transformer.
yup. waiting for my email now. which is fine ill wait I do not care.

Where did you do the preorder in houston? GS told me I was the first to preorder at the 249, spring cypress location. With all this issue and asus not saying a word maybe I should just not expect it before xmas. If you bought the transformer you would remember that asus pull the same **** with the supply. We didn't even know where it was going to be available, just had to try different online retailers. But at least it had a release date count down. My guess is within a few days of availability asus will announce the date. And if it was to be after the 19th...I'm canceling all my preorders. **** that...asus claiming to be first quadcore with ics. We already know the prime is not first with ICS. Hopefully it can still be first quadcore.

For starters, there is no other quad core tablet out now. Even if prime doesn't show until febuary or march, it will still be first quad core with ICS. as it'll ship with it or update to ICS immediately after. That Chinese tablet running ICS is b.s. Anyways..lmao plus it's not a powerful device at all. So Asus will still hold both titles until someone else has same setup on store shelves. Some people already have device in their hands. So first quad core is already achieved. ICS will be available to update to very soon. No other quad core won't release until at least march at earliest and that's pushing it. Ipad3 won't be quad core or running ICS. That Acer n Samsung tablet still a long ways away. It's all still rumpled right now. No physical devices been shown. Only good tablet that's about to be released soon other than prime is the galaxy tab 7.7. Which will the best/most powerful/best display having out of all the galaxy lineup. Aside from the Galxy note

I wish Asus would have said "we have no wifi issue" instead of the "we didn't know anything about wifi issue"
Asus would really make points with me if they really delayed the tab because the wifi has problems.
I mean better than shipping it with knowing the problems.
But again Asus does not give any information and that sucks big deal...

So is there a dalay or not?

ok quick question? Is there a delay or not? Will prime launch at 19th of December ot not?
It depends on who you ask. So... no one really knows.
The Verge (I think it was them) got a response from Asus that said shipments will be going out the week of the 19th.
well sir, if you read any of the forum posts,
NOBODY KNOWS
its ALL speculative
You must not have noticed the 30+ threads trying to glean every word spoken or written by anyone even closely associated with Asus or any one of their delivery partners, tech blogs, forums or the palm reader on the corner to ascertain the actual day, time and second the Prime will begin shipping.
If we knew for certain the day I am sure there would be several posts clamoring to be the first to announce it.

Most of today's comments from online resellers are that they don't know when they're receiving their shipments and some saying delivery will most likely be after X-Mas. Check the Adorama, B&H, and Fry's threads for detail.
Best Buy's saying the 19th is on and people who pre-ordered there are trying to guess the hidden meaning of having their credit cards re-authorized (apparently they periodically re-authorize on pre-orders).
Amazon's canceled all 32GB and calls today indicate the 64GB won't ship before X-Mas.
GameStop has demo units and people have said some stores have inventory but aren't allowed to sell it yet.
Asus Canada's said shipments are delayed indefinitely while a Wi-Fi range problem is resolved.
And there you have it...

Let's look at it this way. No one besides asus know that question. So that eliminates almost everything posted on the internet by anyone besides asus.
Now let's assume that only asus can tell us the answer. Asus USA says it will be released on the 19th. Now you have two choices, believe that or don't. So you got 50/50 still. According to asus usa it's not delayed.
Bottom line seems to be this, in the interest of maybe forestalling other such threads (ha!): ASUS is shipping SOME stock to SOME retailers on or before the 19th. So, they'll live up to their public statements. However, they're shipping far fewer units to far fewer retailers than expected. So, only a select few with the right pre-orders at the right retailers (Best Buy and Gamestop, most likely) will actually get Primes before the end of the year.
Pretty much anyone who wants one should be able to get one by, say, February.
I think that's probably as solid a bit of speculating as anyone is able to conduct at this point.
Engadget is pretty reliable, they got something from Asus saying that it will ship on the 18th. Pretty sure it's shipping.

All of this.
Asus may have screwed themselves by not getting more inventory out prior to CES. People buying tablets for X-Mas will have made a different choice and people who haven't gotten one by January may wait based on how soon what's announced at CES is expected to be available. Once the "I have to have it first" wave passes there's no rush for existing first-gen tablet owners.

This appears to be their latest. It changed from the "19th" to the "week of the 19th" which may or may not mean anything.
Update: We heard back from ASUS US and were told the Prime is still scheduled for release the week of 12 / 19.

Amazon cancelled all 32GB Amethyst Grey orders. I still have my Champagne order in place.
I do agree that there is nothing much other than speculation, but reading that all 32 GB were cancelled scared me a little (That's my only pre-order) Even thought, I have already resigned to receive it after Christmas...

Boy, is there any better forum post to insight such a riot.
I personally think that Asus planned a Dec 9th release, but this was moved to the 19th for them to fix the minor wifi issue that was in the preview units. So the delay was already incurred. The problem would then be inventory ramp up which was slower due to fixing the issue. Since most of the rumors are coming from non-us sources or smaller chains, one can assume that this is really a supply issue and not an actual hardware delay.
I am willing to bet that if you haven't heard from the retailer you pre-ordered from about a delay, then you will probably get one shipped the week of the 19th. However, its all a guessing game which obviously has people sensitive.

If that's all it was, then Asus are idiots for not just coming out and saying so. When there's a problem, people are much more forgiving if you're frank and open with your communication. Asus Canada at least had the balls to tell their resellers that there was a problem. Asus U.S.' terse one sentence responses to inquiries by the media mean either: A) something's going on or went on that they haven't wrapped their hands around, or B) what you said is true and their PR people should be fired. And any one that says this is all intentional to build up buzz and intrigue doesn't know PR.
Bottom line is if the early units people receive work flawlessly then all of this will be forgotten in a couple of weeks and Asus will come out unscathed. God help Asus if after all the gymnastics people went though to get one there's common issues or problems. Especially Wi-Fi related issues because that's what Asus Canada reported as the reason for the delay and Asus U.S. has denied via their silence. If that happens their obvious rush to get it to market and all the secrecy about the delay will come back and bite them in the ass.

Absolutely No it Won't! Wait, I just read a site that claims that they heard another site that said that their little brother knows a tipster, that knows a friend who's cousin is a friend of a social worker, that knows a guy that used to work with Asus and says his inside source is as confused as this post is and all these other ones are!

Best Buy TP Exchange Experience...

Got my TP yesterday from Best Buy, and unfortunately it had few issues, biggest being that the left side was separating (you could see the glass move and could hear a click when squeezing it....) Needless to say I was not going to keep it, so I figured I will give a local Best Buy a try to see if I can exchange it...
I walked up to the Customer Service desk and explained the problem. They said no problem, just go to the computer area and get another one, and they will do an exchange. Went back there, and asked for a Transformer Prime. Got a blank stare, then was told that they are not out yet. I proceeded to explain that I already have one and I'm just exchanging it. Another blank stare, then I was assured that what I must have is the Transformer. I finally got tired of this and asked one of the reps to go back to Customer Service with me.
Upon looking at the box, he looked up the SKU and not finding it in the system, he told me that there is nothing they can do, since it's not in their system and he has no idea how I was able to order one. I politely explained that I have the packing slip from BB.com, order receipt, emails from BB, etc. I had two other people look at it, try to pull up the SKU, then telling me the same thing. It was time to talk to somebody that might have a slightest clue, so I asked for a manager. To make a long story short, after a 25 minute discussion where I was basically accused of "doing something funny", he called somebody else on the phone, and after a short conversation told me that he will "issue me a refund, but this is just not right."
I stayed calm and got the refund, then politely explained to the guy that I can't believe how they can treat a customer in this manner. I don't remember the last time being treated remotely like this, and I will certainly let the corporate office know. He could obviously care less...
Anyway, just wanted to vent. Best Buy lost a VERY good customer, as after this whole TP fiasco I'm just done with them. It's a shame that such a large retailer has so little clue about customer service and competency...
Well the TP is not currently sold in stores yet, its an online only product. I can see why there were confused, but they should've know that though.
Dang! I hope my luck is better. I have a Grey 64GB with dock on pre-order from B&H. It's amazing how lame and helpless these sales people can be. They are slaves to the Point-Of-Sale terminal with no imagination or obvious access to resources.
The correct response would be to accept what you said as true, apologize and issue the refund since they have no units in the store to give you.
Bye.
Hmm, who would've guessed Paul Christoforo would get a job at Best Buy so quickly.

True. Or he could have sold them all on ebay for $150 so there were none left.
Asus packaging really sucks(only booklets is well protected), and BB mailed it in plastic envelope..No wonder there are a lot of problems....
Sorry to hear about the lousy experience. After working in retail, I can deffinently tell you not to threaten with "going to corporate". Just as you said they probably aren't going to care.
Much better to tell the manager on site that you want their District/Regional managers name and phone number. Call the number on the spot if it's during normal daytime hours. This will get you much better results.
District/Regional managers are the normal top dog of the store area, and if you can relay your distress to them in your treatment/experience, results will quickly follow. The store themselves aren't scared of a veiled threat to someone they never directly interact with ("corporate"). But get in touch with their direct boss (the region/district), and that'll put some fear in them...
That doesn't surprise me one bit. Best Buy customer service and return policy is one of the worst I've ever seen.
Now that the competitors (Circuit City, Silo) are gone some long gone Best Buy brick and mortars feel that they can do whatever they want. "Like where else are you going to go?"
but part of this blame also needs to be shared by ASUS for half-ass launching of their product. You don't launch a product to minimum stores unless you want your product to flop.
strange ASUS never revealed the amount of Primes they shipped to US for launch. My guess is under 3,000 units at best.
I was in BB last week, doing other shopping and for the heck of it, asked if they had the dock in yet (they didn't). But all of the BB guys were insisting that the TF Prime was not even out yet and that it had been delayed until Jan. I was like "Of course it's out, I have one!!". Lol... :/

The Best Buy clerks at the retailer in my area knew that they were out but had no idea of when they would be in, they checked their internet computers and only saw what most online-shoppers saw the "Coming Soon" message.
Can someone explain to me again why BB stopped their TFP online ordering nearly 2-weeks before Christmas and put-up a "Coming Soon" banner? Do they not realize how many customers they lost in what I can only see as a dumb move. I mean even if you didn't have any TFP in-stock, you could have at least kept it set up as a pre-order to collect potential buyers, but leaving it as a Coming Soon did no good for anyone, not even their own brick and mortar retailers who also used BB.com.

It is just truly amazing that a retailer the size of Best Buy can have basic issues like this and how unresponsive they are to fix those issues. I think the mentality here is - it is not effecting enough people, so let's just not talk about it.

This is what being patient gets you.

Think you are tired of waitng for your prime?? listen to this.
So I ordered my prime on Dec 20, 2011 from Amazon and paid in full with Amazon gift cards.
I patiently waited and was told that my prime would be arriving today. Woohoo!!
So I check my tracking today and it says that it is on the truck and in transit to my house.
At 7:00 pm tonight I began to get concerned and call the shipping company (Ensenda). They inform me that they never recieved it from Amazon. (wait what?? the tracking says its on the f'n truck!!)
They transfer me to Amazon support who apologized and told me that they would have a replacement ship out and arrive on monday.
I was put on hold and when support returned they told me that I would not get a replacement as they had none in stock. Also they said they had no idea when they would be receiving any more. They best they could do was refund me.
They would not even place a new order for me, and now I am assed out.
Now I have no prime, not even a pending order, nothing.
I have to wait for them to come in stock before I can even re-place my order.
I got ****ed completey after patiently waiting for almost a month.
I wish amazon sold shotguns

I feel for you. I ordered from Amazon on 12/19 and used $300 gift cards. I am trying to be patient but it's hard to not jump on one of these other sellers like newegg, gamestop, or hhgregg. But alas, I had the amazon gift cards and I trust their returns department.
Seriously, good luck finding one. Sign up for alerts at nowinstock.net and you'll probably get it faster than with Amazon.

Wow. I wouldnt hold out much hope man. I spoke with a "support team leader". He checked to see when they would be getting more in and he said they would not be receiving any in the near future.
This whole situation is really screwed up. How can other companies be getting stock yet one of the worlds largest retailers had none, and has no clue when they will get a decent amount.

True. I just returned mine to Amazon - weak WiFi, NO GPS signal whatsoever, minor screen bleed (although screen bleed is a thing a lot of people don't notice), and that pesky problem where the right side of the bezel was slightly loose - like it wasn't glued down all the way (as it is on my friend's, who got one from the "new" batch just this week).
I'll also throw this out there:
- HHGregg dropped the price to $399 - and then removed it completely from their site when they sold out (it was sold in the actual stores for the same price - so no pricing error there) - it still comes up on the site when you search for it - but click the link, and the product page has been completely removed
- Amazon removed it completely from their site a couple of weeks ago (I wasn't even given the option to order a replacement or an exchange with my return - as is normal Amazon protocol - I was only given the option to get a refund)
- Newegg took it completely off of their website (besides the open box units they unloaded for $399 this morning - most likely, returns)
- A couple of websites have notes that the thing has been discontinued and they won't be expecting more stock in
- Best Buy has removed the sku from their in-store system - managers don't believe they'll be getting any more in
Like people said - grain of salt - but there are 5 of them right there...
EDIT - they may not be getting discontinued by the manufacturer, but my guess is (and it's just a guess) - a lot of retailers were getting heaps of these things back in returns - if it were me, I wouldn't want to deal with the headache of selling them...

Just a bit of advice. I'm a big Amazon shopper, and one thing I've learned is that you have to go out of your way to get that great customer service. Just because one Amazon rep tells you something don't just blindly accept it. Go through all the proper channels (Phone, Chat, E-mail, Supervisor) I can almost guarantee you will be satisfied eventually.
PS Personally I've had the best of luck through phone and e-mail. And afterwards you'll get two links asking "Thank you for your recent inquiry. Did I solve your problem?", if you choose "no" it'll ask you to give them another chance. I have had success in the past using this method as well.
You should easily be able to be put back on the front of the waiting list, it's just common sense. Any good supervisor should see that.
Good Luck!

With the problems the Prime has thank yourself lucky you didn't receive one with screen bleed, WiFi issues etc etc as the vast majority have these problems.

Think you are tired of waitng for your prime?? listen to this.
So I ordered my prime on Dec 20, 2011 from Amazon and paid in full with Amazon gift cards.

Do you even own one, or you just here to troll??
Not everyone has a broken prime,. Its just the people who are complaining (many of them rightfully so) are more vocal than those who are satisified.

Cool, any chance we can move this to an Amazon forum as I'm not sure what this has to do with XDA.

I'm not trying to dog you, and I appreciate the info that you shared, but nobody knows if you know anyone inside Asus. Its an anonymous forum. Btw, I'm Seth Rogan, and I'm smoking a doobie while I post this. Please watch my next movie.

How can you say a "vast majority?" There are just as many people on here with issues as there are people WITHOUT issues. You keep posting your thread, but it is all based on an unnamed, unproven anonymous source. That could be anyone, it could be a real Asus employee, it could be Seth Rogan above, or your imagination.
I keep hearing the argument of how there are not that many primes with issues because XDA and other forums are just a small percentage of actual owners and most owners probably wouldn't be on here posting their problems. Or how people wouldn't come on here to post that they have a great prime, but only if they have problems.
Thus, those with issues are probably magnified on these forums compared to the overall numbers. However, that can work both ways. XDA could also be a very small sample of those who think they DO NOT have problems. You really cannot have it both ways.
I am still seeing FAR MORE people with issues than people who do not have issues. Even in the Positive & Perfect Prime threads.
Your thread isn't really based on any facts or anything to prove that there are not really as many issues as everyone thinks. It could easily just be YOUR opinions since your source is an anonymous person. I could just as easily say "I know someone at the top, inside Asus, and this is straight from the horses mouth. They are having a lot of issues with the Prime and have had daily meetings to decide what to do. They are considering simply replacing it with the new model since the T201 has so many issues. They are starting to slow down distribution to buy more time to consider the next step to still maximize sales and profits, stay tuned!"
How is that any different than YOUR anonymous source>? I just made that all up, but it sounds just as factual as your unnamed and anonymous source. I have read your thread, I honestly have. After reading it, it doesn't change my mind. It doesn't make me feel more comfortable or confident in the Prime OR Asus. It just makes me question the source, that is about it.
