We can affect change! - Petition to VZW - IT WORKED!! - HTC Rezound

Guys we did it!!!!!!!
VZW got our petition and my letter, as a result they allowed HTCdev.com to work to unlock our phones!
go to www.htcdev.com and follow the instructions.
good job to all who signed the petition, what an awesome victory!
here is the letter I sent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20764858&postcount=107
Thank you to everyone who participated
Please read sign, and share the following petition.
http://www.groubal.com/verizon-wireless-allow-unlocking-of-htc-boot-loaders-on-your-network/
With enough signatures, this can work. This is the same method that was used with HTC and resulted in the acknowledgement by the CEO, and the promise of unlocked boot loaders for all phones from now on.
Verizon is trying to protect us from ourselves, they claim that allowing the phones to be unlocked would "hurt" us, as we would not be able to get "excellent customer service" should we ever need troubleshooting advice from them.
We all know that we understand the risk associated custom software and roms, as well as unlocking and changing critical software. We can choose to participate, or choose to leave our phones as Verizon shipped them.
We want the ability to CHOOSE what we do with our phones, not to have VZW protect us from ourselves. Giving us the option to unlock is not the same as shipping the phones in an unlocked state... We simply want the option.

Basically what Verizon is saying is that since it is so easy to root and un-root with virtually no trace they don't want this to be easy because they have replaced thousands of phones already that were "bricked" by the users.
I wouldn't mind a minor lockdown making it somewhat difficult to modify the phone, but this type of lockdown is a little out of hand.

the current lock down in place can stay in place. We just want them to allow HTC to unlock our phones should we choose to use their unlock tool, created and supported by HTC, for HTC phones.
nothing has to change except that.

I'd rather petition HTC on providing unlock keys. Verizon already knows how to ignore us.

Ah, I didn't realize there was an HTC tool to do that. I am new to HTC phones, my previous two phones were Samsungs (Fascinate and Charge) and they were both ridiculously easy to unlock.

Will you be posting this on other websites? Rootz perhaps? Is there a rezound specific website to post it on? Come on people, only 7 of us want our phones unlocked? Sign, sign, sign.

Stop crying over evo 3d being locked.

Crying over a phone that has not been released cause it is locked is completely stupid. Whether it is locked and encrypted or has an instaroot button it will be hacked at some point. The only thing that changes is the method on doing so. If you have already made ur decision to not get this phone due to it being locked and encrypted then please navigate away from this section of the forum and please by all means please stop crying over this topic. The evo 3d is not unhackable it will be done its just a matter of time. If u make the decision not to get this phone at last use a better excuse. You nor.I know the ability of the devs so until they come out and say its impossible drop it and wipe ur tears.

Why don't you go ask the guys over in the droid x section about encrypted bootloaders.
Says the guy that joined 2 months ago. GTFO.
You saying that its only a matter of time isn't helping either. In fact, its misleading considering that many phones in this position, notably the Droids, have yet to be cracked a year later. Besides, this is a EVO 3D topic on a home brew development site. It being incredibly limited to the purpose of this entire site is essential discussion.

Try saying this to the many of users out there still locked down thinking their phones would eventually be cracked. Ya they're still waiting...
I'm not going to waste my time on "it might be done eventually" If and when it does get cracked the next big thing will probably be coming out. Patience is a virtue for suckers.

100% agree. I was debating myself between the 3D and the SGS2 so that I can have a beast of a phone and continue with MIUI, but now that choice I guess got easier.
Maybe my post was a bit rude I apologize for that. Its not that I think we should not discuss this. I just don't think we need 10 separate topics a day doing so. I also feel this being the sole reason some people are protesting getting this phone is a bit stupid when u balance the pros and cons of this phone. I have also read that there is someone attempting to develop a way to unlock locked phones using a similar method to jailbreaking iphone. I dont remember where on google I read that. I'm not telling u that to start rumors just trying to show u it is being worked on it is not going unnoticed by the devs.

The problem with motorola phones isn't the encryption. its the fact that it re-locks once un-encrypted. they've gotten to the point of un-encrypting it, just the re-locking problem is the issue.

Doesn't change the fact that it's been well over a year and the problem still exists. The point is, yes it's POSSIBLE that this will be rootable at some point, but it's more likely that by that time there will be much better, easily rootable tech (i.e. Nexus 3) on the market.
It's not bad to have hope for a bootloader solution.
A bootloader unlock may never happen, though. You can hope for a bootloader bypass though. Just look at the Atrix. We have a bypass ready, we just need a kernel

You need to stop putting so much faith into the devs. We all love them to death but we just can't do everything. If it's anything like the way Motorola locked their devices down, the odds are against us. 256 bit encryption is crazy. LOL

If anyone is interested I wrote up this complaint (http://db.tt/Z441y4yG) concerning Verizon's policy of locked bootloaders and how it violates the LTE license. I sent it to the FCC and NY senators, one of whom is looking into the matter. The complaint is written like a legal brief and has garnered the attention of at least senator. Feel free to use it and send it to FCC and your senators.

I think this is clear that HTC will not let us have S-OFF unless its from a developer

Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.
If you should require support, please feel free to contact us via the support section of our website, http://www.htc.com
http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/faq

That'a actually another reason why I don't want to rush to obtain s-off because even if we get it we may lose it with the OTA. Would be our luck. We know that HTC read these so what's to stop them from being like "Huh. This Binary100100 bastard figured out how to get around s-on. Let's patch that with ICS! That'll show them!"

No, and most likely never will because it invalidates the very reason S-on is enabled. We've (the community) always developed a way to bypass the signature as far back as I can remember, but they've figured out a way to make it more difficult to accomplish with the Amaze.
I think if we make enough noise, perhaps they'll create a tool that allows overwriting the signature. My optimism always gets the best of me!

Yeah some people just want stock AT&T Sense. Anyways, I believe it's AT&T fault for not rolling out the update. HTC leaves it up to the carrier to when they want to release the update. I could be wrong because Tmo and Sprint hasn't released 4.2.2 either. I have a feeling that The Verizon HTC one will be released before we see an update.

Hahaha like it's all HTCs fault... International has it and there is basically no difference between international and AT&T software besides stupid bloat, so go complain to AT&T if you want. I'm sure they'll send the OTA to your phone right there on the spot.

yeah what's up with this? didn't XDA used to require like 50 posts before you could start a thread? this is why we have androidforums.com. regardless, HTC needs to spend more on marketing so that more people will buy their products and ATT will have to prioritize the updating. this delay is not on HTC...it's almost 100% on AT&T. ATT had the HOX JB update for like 3.5 months before they pushed it out to people, and their own customer service isn't even made privy to the status. this is what the purchase of subsidized phones and contracts gets us consumers. if it's REALLY a problem for you, then you're at XDA for the solution. this isn't a place to complain. if you want stock sense, that's fine, I can totally appreciate it, but you dont come to, and sign up for, a Dev website to ***** about the lack of a stock OTA from a carrier known to take (queue Sandlot) FOR-EV-ER to update it's phones.
Interesting. Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful comments. I have rooted a lot of phones and wanted to see why the update was not moving forward. The extra colorful comments are welcomed as well. The only issue with forums is I could be gaining advise from experts or middle school students.

I think the snide replies are rooted in the fact that the basic sentiment of your original post has been stated an overwhelming amount of times on this website, especially with regards to AT&T and HTC issuing an OTA for major - and even minor - software updates. Many folks get tired of coming to this site to read the same thing, hence the increased likelihood of getting a snide reply.
Truthfully, the update probably is moving forward, it's just that AT&T is about as transparent as the Bush administration so we never have any clue where things stand with regards to actual delivery of the updates. Yes, forums is probably going to be hit or miss with regards to quality of advice. But the way you're delivering your comment here makes you seem like you should be in forums, and is probably going to get you some colorful responses from non-middle schoolers.
If you've rooted as much as you claim, you probably know that we almost never know why carrier updates are not moving forward....or if they're moving forward at all. Many come here to find technical solutions and workarounds to that exact ongoing problem, and often get annoyed seeing the same thing posted again and again in each subforum. I think the general assumption here is that many of us are, in fact, frequently posting complaints/concerns/comments on carrier and manufacturer websites, social media pages, forums, etc. We're all on the same boat, or at least many of us.
We welcome rallying for a cause here, but it's possible there's a better way to go about starting a rally for this issue. In the past, folks have posted the actual interactions they've received from customer support reps and techs, feedback responses, etc, and discussions have ensued as to the best ways to get in touch with the companies involved with regards to really displaying the distaste of both the developer and general enthusiast consumer. The AT&T/Rogers/Telus HTC One X forums is a great case study, in particular, the rally around getting the original JB update RUU, source, etc.
I've had a few interactions with HTC and ATT with regards to future updates, but have gotten absolutely zero information from them. Sadly, they mask their lack of sharing as ignorance all too well. Even more sad is that CSRs and technicians are probably not really lying at all when they claim to know nothing about the updates. Again, we're hooked into contract, not to mention that the vast majority of their consumers don't realize the potential benefits of upgrades, and in many cases aren't even aware of their potential existence. That's where we'll probably really see the change, in getting more people familiarized with the beast we are burdened to deal with; not here, but in the general public.

Interesting. Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful comments. I have rooted a lot of phones and wanted to see why the update was not moving forward. The extra colorful comments are welcomed as well. The only issue with forums is I could be gaining advise from experts or middle school students.

Oh haha you just wanted to see why it wasn't moving forward is all?
Strange, then why didn't you ask WHY it wasn't moving forward? Instead you complained that its taking to long and then blindly blamed HTCs new marketing campaign for the delay? Doesn't make any SENSE (pun intended).

This information just came in today. Looks like HTC will jump to 4.3 for the Dev edition at least. Here's the full article: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2013/08/18/htc-one-developer-edition-jumping-to-android-4-3/

"adj: So great that any other word employed would be woefully insufficient, and would serve only to limit the sheer magnitude of the greatness intended as a descriptor."
For those who aren't familiar with the word.

change.org *Petition to unlock Verizon bootloader*

With the bounty of almost $4,000 (last time I checked) you would think that someone/recognized dev or team, would step up to this bounty of unlocking the bootloader on the Verizon variant of the S4. Even since the ME7 update, (mid July?), I am surprised! I thought I would put in my 2 cents of the topic. There is a website called change.org, which is an online petition website. I'm sure some of you have heard it.
Anyways, I saw a petition of the LG 4X. A guy made up a petition to unlock the boot loader. Soon enough, the amount of required signatures was reached, and LG came out with an update and BAM. Boot loader unlocked. Here is the link: http://www.change.org/petitions/lg-electronics-seoul-we-would-like-to-get-the-opportunity-to-unlock-bootloader-in-lg-phones
I'm going to create an petition for the Verizon S4, and hopefully, this works. Just a little bit of hope for you guys, I want it just as bad as everyone else.
You need to create an account on change.org, also you can use your facebook details. Doesn't matter. but make an account and sign!
Here is the petition, let me know what you think guys! :fingers-crossed: If I need to edit anything, let me know.
http://www.change.org/petitions/samsung-usa-and-verizon-wireless-unlock-the-bootloader-of-the-verizon-s4-sch-i545
EDIT: We've reached over 50 signatures! Keep em' coming guys. Thank you.
Verizon won't change their stance. That's why they attempt to please us by offering developer edition devices. That LG device you referenced to was a GSM unlocked device. It wasn't tied to any carrier specifically and therefore LG could directly appease those demanding change. Verizon offers the explanation in this article in regards to why it's locked and it's probably the same response you'll get. just my 2cents
still doesn't hurt to try. I'm in.
i think everyone who likes to mod their phones should try this petition.
Exactly what black_label said. It doesn't hurt to try. I see where you're coming from, but let's just see what happens. This petition is booming in the last hour.
