[Q] Galaxy tab Usb and SD connection kit - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought that product last week and got it 3 days ago.
Well the Usb connector is cool if u want to use a regular keyboard or a memory stick
It does give power to my usb headset, but sound keep coming out from speakers
It doesnt give enought power to my usb Goflex Freeagent external Hard drive
As for the SD connector, well here come my questions since i didnt have any SD card nearby and i want to know before buying one.
Can I put my titanium backup/rom manager backups on an external SD card ?
Can i put Movies on the external SD cars and then watch them on my tab ?
I ask this last question because i got quite a few games that are taking lots of internal space and i only have the 16gb tab. I like 720p movies but they weight around 4gb and thats pretty much all the space i have left on the tab so i though i could put them on an external SD since my external HD cant be plug into the tab.
sorry for my poor writting skills, i hope u guys understand what i mean
MORE :
I tried to read a movie from a memory stick plugged into the usb connector that was plugged into the tab and it did work but, video player like moboplayer arent flipping the screen, this mean that the stick and connector are in the 30pin connector wich is at the bottom of the tab so u cant watch a movie with the tab standing in the portrait position (see picture)
Do you guys know a videoplayer that will rotate the screen so my sd card or memory stick would be at the top ?

I've only ever used the stock player, and it rotates fine.

Connecting a memory stick

Hi all.
how can i connect a memory stick to my Topaz? Do my phone recognize it?
Supposing i have a DVD movie on this stick, could i play this movie on the phone?
thanks.
I'm sorry but IMHO this will not work. The Topaz hardware does not support USB master mode - only slave. Therefore it's not possible to connect USB slave devices like USB sticks.
But why not use a SDHCmicro card which is large enough to store your movie? Topaz supports cards up to 16 GB.
nunein is correct. there is no way this is going to work.
Like Drag-On above, I've got an 8GB Class 6 SDHC Micro card in mine, only Kingston. Works fine. Bear in mind that a DVD is 4.7GB (single layer) and you have a capacity much higher than you should need for three or even four (compressed) video files. Just compress them well; Your screen isn't that big, so you don't need uncompressed video!

[Q] Flyer and external usb HDD

Hi,
I am thinking about buying the flyer as I do a lot of nights and I thought it would be an amazing tablet for playing dvd's on.
My question is: I have a 500gb external HDD formatted with NTFS. If I bought a micro usb to micro usb cable, would I be able to plug it into the flyer and play my dvd's? I have ripped them to AVI files and are arround 1gb each?
Also would I be able to run it of power at the same time?
Doubtful. I haven't tried myself but most mobile devices aren't set up to allow their usb port to function with external storage... I could however be wrong. Take ur hdd into a store and give it a shot. Worth a try...

1. The Flyer has no standard micro usb jack! HTC use the same port as HDI output but you can connect the provided USB (not micro) cable.
2. As already said, you need the drivers on the Flyer to do so and I didn't check it. Maybe someone else?
3. You can connect the Flyer in other ways to external storage such as media servers (over WiFi).
Sounds a bit much for what I want to do! I am also considering the Dell Inspiron mini 10.1 which has a flip arround 10" touch screen!
.
Have a look at this thread.
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=46483
You dont even have to mod the device, just put in a 500GB drive and install ESfile Explorer and it streams all your media files (encoded for the Flyer of course).
OH, BTW, works fine with my A70 AND my Flyer...
Interesting, but I'd admit that I was checking out the videos on the Dell 10" touch screen, it looked so awsome that I went and ordered one. Average price seemed to be £480, but then I found an next day delivery from amazon for £407! So gone for that instead. In my opinion best of both worlds.
For my the flyer looked amazing but didn't have all the functionality I needed!
Cheers for your help guys!

[Q] possible to use card readers?

hello!
i am looking forward for the german release of the GT 10.1 - i want to use it as some kind of "mobile picture transfer"-device - so basicaly it should get the job that my netbook has right now
as far as i know, the tab is able to access usb thumb drives
but what about cardreaders and those small 2,5" HDDs? had anyone the chance to already try if those things work as well?
just to tell yo uthe setup that i want to use (if this will be possible) - get the CF-card out of my cam - plug the cardreader with the CF-card into the GT, transfer the pictures - plug the HDD into the tab - transfer the pictures onto the HDD
i am pretty sure one of you may knows the answer

Spinning hard drives might have power problems.
A card reader should work though - I'll be testing an SDHC reader 1-2 days from now when my adapter comes in.
would be great! thanks!
maybe a 2,5" SSD works if a HDD wont work - i am looking forward for your update
a powered hd shouldn't be a problem
Yeah, if you've got a 3.5" with an external power supply it should work.
It's just that bus-powered 2.5" drives might be pushing the limit.

I had problems with my 2.5" drive and the Tab, but it works fine behind a powered USB hub.

That makes sense, since then the hub is providing power. It effectively makes the 2.5" drive an externally powered one, at least from the tab's point of view.

would be great to know if those usual card readers work (those who read several formats like SD, CF and all that stuff)
My adapter came in last night and I had to rush out the door. Tonight maybe.
would be amazing!
Why not look at an EyeFi card and do it wirelessly. Works great with my original 7" tab
Eh, they're kinda slow and have issues with some cameras.
I can confirm that a USB thumb drive works perfectly. So a USB card reader should be fine, it's basically the same thing. I'll try this weekend.
So much to do, so little time.
I'm trying to find the best combination of portable hard drive and compact powered hub, since most portable hard drives are USB powered.
Anybody have any suggestions?

as far as i know are there no Compact Flash EyeFi cards available?
@Entropy: so far it seems to take antoher month till release here in germany - so take your time but don't forget me
I have both an Eye-Fi Card and the USB adapter. Thumb drives and card readers work. I have not yet tried it with a 2,5" HDD.
Just tried a Rosewill SDHC reader with a Transcend 16GB Class 6 SDHC card, no problems at all.

[Q] USB hub with multiple devices??

Can you connect multiple devices to a USB hub (powered or unpowered) at once and transfer files between them? This would be using the USB adapter with a usb hub to connect a thumb drive or card reader and a usb hard drive and copying files between them.
Is this possible on the gtab with the stock rom?
My return period is coming very close and I haven't been able to get my hands on a USB adapter to try this myself.
I assume the software actually supports this since tables like the transformer with the dock have multiple USB ports...
I would also like to know... it would be awesome if I could hook up my camera and external hard drive to transfer the pictures - if that is possible, I will no longer have to take my laptop with me on vacation. I know transferring the files to the tap and then to the drive would probably work, but my CF card is twice the size of my tabs memory... I need to skip the taps memory all together.

Same reasoning here. RAW pics from my SLR when on vacation, etc. My 14 return period is up on friday and this is a make or break for me. No best buys within a 30 mi radius have the USB adapter still
also want know this,i got a card reader recently

Yep, same here... the RAW files from my 7D are 15-30 megs a piece. One vacation can reach ~60-100 gigs...

Use of USB hub with stock GT-P7510
I WAS able to connect the EPL-1PLRBE (Samsung USB adapter) to the Samsung dock side port with the GT-7510 docked, then plugged in a SanDisk MicroMate SD card reader, plug in an 8GB SD card and my Tab opened up "My files" and gave me the directory for the SD card in 'Root/Storages/usb/...' whereupon I was able to access the files on the SD card, ie., view the pics, read the pdf's, play the wmv's, mp4's and 3gp's. This all was accomplished with NO power besides the Tab's internal battery. I can also copy from/to the SD card plugged into the MicroMate reader with no external power.
I then hooked up a Gigaware 4-port USB hub to the EPL-1PLRBE, plugged the SanDisk MicroMate SD card reader with an 8GB SD card inserted (you have to power on with the devices already plugged in to the hub for the TAB to recognize it-it will give the USB trident symbol in the systray if you are successful) and was able to duplicate opening "My files" and reading/writing to the 8GB SD card.
Immediately afterward, I powered down, added a second USB device, a digital picture watch, to the hub. I powered up and with the second device on the unpowered hub the TAB would not recognize either device or display the USB trident in the systray.
With the TAB still on, I added the Samsung USB power adapter to the hub, in the fourth slot. Without powering down, the TAB thought for 5-10 seconds, then displayed the USB trident in the systray and brought up "My files" which now recognized both devices, and which position on the hub it was located. I deduced this by the foldername in "My files" - the first device was in the first slot, and its folder name was 'sda' with the second device in the third USB slot with the folder name of 'sdc'

[Q] Does the alpha support USB OTG?

hi all!
I've been reading various reviews of the Alpha, but I can't understand if the Alpha supports USB OTG, as some say it does while others say the opposite. Does anyone know?
The 32gb of memory would be perfectly fine for me if the phone supports USB OTG, so that I can keep videos and other stuff on the usb key I have in my keychain
thanks in advance!
Alpha has fully support USB-OTG - you can use USB-flash, TV-tuners e.t.c.
USB OTG ALPHA= Good
Because if I get Alpha I could back up photos presentations etc.
I see at Expansys a 2500 Mah battery and back Cover not yet in
stock but if new back plate is flush with Camera could be
cool.
I like the ruggedness and beauty of Alpha over the .. Z3C and
and Camera may have fewer issues also.
Have not seen Z3C in person yet but seems fragile and QC issues with pink spots photos . ., muffled speakers...
Wish the Alpha was more Note 4 like but same form but
10 mm thick , bigger battery , Note Camera etc.
But may take it as is if Z3 C is too quirky.
With USB OTG can Alpha read Media, Photos, etc.
directly from USB Device without loading into internal
memory ?
Hi,
Yes, the Alpha (at least the International one) does support USB-OTG out of the box. I use it myself on a daily basis with a Meenova USB-OTG MicroSD card reader and a 64GB MicroSD card formatted to exFat under windows so I can watch my movie files that are over 4GB in size.
I am also non-rooted and have no extra software loaded to allow the MicroSD to be read, everything is handled fine by stock ROM.
Hope that answers your question
Not the OP but thanks .
Can you also load Apps and Data on Apps onto USB Memory to use as Backup Storage in addition to
Photos etc. ?
No SD Card is more tolerable if everything can be backed up on USB Media.
Thanks.
