So 4-5 month for the update from that of SE getting it to final... That's pretty damn sad man...

SE's already the most transparent OEM as far as the 4.0 update is concerned. They've already publicly released the alpha build for their ROM and they've been providing more updates on their progress than any other OEM. The release of the alpha build at this point in time (and Cyanogen's own estimate of 2 months) further bolsters what they and Motorola have been saying: the time-consuming part of OS updates isn't the coding, it's the certification (which Cyanogen doesn't have to deal with). Different policies and procedures across various bureaucracies (clearly) takes a lot of time.

I know. I dont consider SE any worse than any other brand because of it... I just consider it really sad that it has to take so long between the release of the code until ANYONE gets the update.

Actually the galaxy s2 has a beta ics build (official) with pretty much everything working!

Official? Where? I know there are 2 diffrent lines of unofficial ones. But have yet to see any official actual rom. Official confirmation that they are working on it yes. But find no official releases.

Hi, this may be a stupid question but will this update be applicable to all listed devices
regardless of where in the world and on what network they are sold?

Read this news, sony has not said that all xperias get ics.
http://www.somobile.co.uk/news/2011...urrent-gen-xperia-phones-will-get-android-4-0
On final they have updated the news with sonys official statement.
Update: Sony Ericsson has told us that the company has made no official decision to update its 2011 Xperia phones to Android 4.0 – despite the comments from a Sony Ericsson representative at a London press event yesterday. Still, here’s hoping…
Here’s the official statement: “When it comes to future platforms of the Android OS, we will make them available to consumers in a timely manner, as long as they improve the user experience and are viable from a hardware point of view.”
So the jury is out right now, but let’s hope Sony Ericsson comes good (as long as the hardware is capable of it).
Ice Cream Sandwich will make Cyanogenmod worthless in comparison for Xperia Neo, so there will be interest and means to get it on Neo. If not officially then unofficial tweak of released FW for other phone, from source code, or some other way...
I hope sony implements it in neo. The phone is great and a software upgrade it will be much better.
Sorry for my bad english.
If they don't, then more reason to build Cyanogenmod for the Neo.
Sent from my X8
Hardware and software wise the Neo is totally identical to the Arc,and it'll be very surprising if Sony decides to update only the Arc. Given that,I'm pretty sure we shall be served some Ice cream sandwiches

I dont' care about Sony's Release of ICS, just beeing afraid of having even more bloatware then.
Hopefully somone else will make a pure clean Build based on AOSP w/o ugly Timescape.
Generally, for ICS I'm eagerly looking forward for many under-the-hood improvements apart from optical polish. Things, Google had missed poorly in the past but were proven to actually work by some Custom Rom cooks. Things like editing a contact' birthday or creating a new calendar w/o using a PC and so on...
I'm more interested in Cyanogenmod 100% working. That way we will get ICS without all the bloatware crap.
A 100% working CM is imho a fancy dream, spoken from my own experience with the Nexus1. Never without anything to mess with, always waiting for the next release that fixes one and creates another bug. That's the problem with early adopting a steady growing system. Apart from those few issues, the features of CM are absolutely fantastic!

It would be good on the neo.

cant wait. go Neo!
even if the update is not offical i am sure we can get the update unofficially on our neos. should be good.

Official ICS Release Date!

''Sony Ericsson has in an official blog post announced that the first upgrades from late March / early April will be disseminated. This will be the upgrades for the Xperia arc S, neo V and ray. From late April / early May, the upgrades for the Xperia arc, neo, PLAY, Mini (Pro), active and pro spread. Why a distinction is made is not clear, but it may have to do with relieving the servers, or obtaining the appropriate approvals.''
(google translated from a dutch newsitem)
Yeeey
edit: The Blogpost
Seriously, Sony Ericsson, Y U LET NEO (and Arc) owners wait a month?
Hope our devs can port it.
I think that in march we will have very good ICS custom roms.
Waiting one month more is nothing. Most likely their neo and arc specific ICS will fit those models better. Especially camera drivers.
It doesn't take an extra month just to deal with the camera drivers.
they release new firmware for their newest devices first, thus hoping, that people will buy their newest devices to get their hands on ICS faster. it's all marketing.
I'm quite sure we'll get custom ROMs a lot earlier than May

But Xperia Pro MK16 is a new device. As far as I remember September - October 2011. Then why is it included in the oldies batch?

[CLOSED][Q]ICS to XMP in beginning of April?

Has anyone got any news if Sony is going to release the ICS update they promised in the early of April? As they promised other Xperia 2011 phones ICS will be coming to them end of March, it doesn't look likely that XMP will be getting ICS soon? Has anyone got some recent news?

Damn it, Sony.
A bit of looking in the General section...I didn't post this long ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572875
Well you probably read it around the same time so it's an easy mistake.
Yeah, 1 month delay. Looking at the beta roms (official) I'm confused about what the UI will be on the Mini/Pro. Will we have the ICS blue icons throughout, continue the SE UI, or a mix? I've seen a mix of all that on the betas available. I have loved almost every UI design SE has done. BUT I do NOT like much of the new Sony UI. Some of their phone designs are nice and unique, but I do NOT like their UI, I don't want it.
I just noticed that one of the final big features missing in the custom 4.0 roms has been fixed: the camera. Now I'm happy to download a custom 4.0, especially given the delay.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434001
I'm also really confused about many things.
First Sony said that the update was planed for end of April/Begging of may, now they are just delaying it
Also, I've never seen a beta ROM or a screenshot of the Timescape UI for smaller phones for ICS.
So disappointed....I flashed stocked ROM and relock bootloader just to update to official ICS update but now I have to wait till end of May or even beginning of June....WTF SONY??!!?!
Sony just delays the update in 1 months so we can have our fun time with the custom ROMs around
Update was delayed because of 3rd party certifications, maybe because they were busy in certifying Samsung and htc roms. 1 months isn't that long BTW.
1 month is not long at all. Should i remind you that the Xperia Pro (not the mini pro) was delayed around 8 months?
Besides, what is all the hype with ICS? You wont realise what is going under the hood, the UI will be exactly the same as it is now... Just because it is new doesn't mean its better, most of the times. Remember the bugs 4.0.3 had? the Changelog for 4.0.4 has some hundreds of changes to it from 4.0.3... So yea...
Sony have delayed the release of the ICS for the Arc S, Ray etc to mid april... So i guess we will have to wait a whole lot longer, more like mid june or something...
May be you should try some unofficial builds....
AOSP build by kamarush is really stable and i am using it on a daily basis... well xcept for hd recording...

That's exactly why I've started with the custom roms for this phone. Stock SE runs perfectly, obviously so I didn't want to leave it until custom 4.0 were v stable. My fav is this:

i really like the default ics UI.. so i picked up the custom ICS build by kamarush and expeacer. stable enough now for daily use.

Official: 2011 Sony Xperia handsets will NOT get Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

John Cooper, UK Product Manager for Sony Mobile, has been taking questions from customers on Facebook and, perhaps inadvertently, revealed that both the Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S and Xperia mini pro will not receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.
We have been waiting for Sony to make an official statement on their Jelly Bean upgrade plans and this is the first concrete news we have on the matter. The Xperia arc S was the highest specced 2011 Sony Xperia handset, so if this handset isn’t getting it we can conclude that none of the other Xperia handsets from the 2011 range will get the update either. However, the 2012 Xperia range do look likely to get the update, although timing remains an unknown right now.
Its funny that many of the 2012 Xperia handsets have lower specs than the 2011 models. It sux! anw, we can hope for a developer to port JB for 2011 Xperia lineup. & Cynomod10 is coming with JB
Credit goes to www.xperiablog.net
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/07/26/official-2011-sony-xperia-handsets-will-not-get-android-4-1-jelly-bean/
They have made a mistake
Xperia 2011 handets should have had that minor upgrade to Jelly Bean, especially given the performance issues. Also, it means those handsets are stuck permanently on 2.6 Linux kernel, unless one goes the custom ROMs way. Thankfully, Cyanogenmod devs are supporting Xperia Mini Pro, so I am starting on a quest to root my SK17i.
Jelly Bean would be slow on our phones if official update was done. Sony will push own Timescape UI inside instead of Butter UI, so we don't get any performance improvements in UI.
It's a shame, but it was expected...
Yeah, i also expect 2012 xperias will probably get Jelly Bean update around this time next year (+/- couple months), just before Key Lime Pie comes out

I wonder....
does anyone remember Xperia x10i? the funniest was they came from Donut 1.6 to GingerBread 2.3. they've got 3 official FW update.. and me guess we still have a chance.. Our device is not low range since we have 512 ram inside. and some of Xperia 2012 family also have the same type.
I was expecting this. They won't update 2011 xperia phones to JB. But they will update 2012 xperias. If I buy another phone, it won't be a Sony. Maybe a Nexus 7 but not a Sony. I was very disappointed with the ICS update. Can't imagine a JB for our phones, maybe to slow...
Long live to Gingerbread! xD

Anyway, I'm not surprised, but they could change their minds if community presses them enough. As I remember, HTC upgraded Desire to GB even though they said phone was underpowered (for sense bloatware).

The thing is that to be able to create stable custom roms you need support from the manufacturer. Without proper source code or hardware drivers/libraries that suit the new OS developers have to tack everything together which greatly increases the chances of bugs.
IMHO the least thing Sony could do is provide a proper hardware layer to developers to give them a solid base to work from. Nobody really needs the Sony customisations anyway so they could actually save a lot of development time there.
Personally I'd wish all android phones came with AOSP, like what Apple and Microsoft do. It saves the manufacturers a lot of development and opens the way for more frequent/longer OS updates.
All hope of custom rom
**** Sony, where's Ericsson when we need him?

Nicely Explained Brother:good:
Here is example!
1.Bravia Engine wont work without proper supported lib files
2.Same will happen with xLoud
But we can force SONY to give us JB update
If majority of all the customers keep on telling them about the update for 2011 Family, after all customers are the only strength of any COMPANY
What say guys?
Yeah yeah yeah! As what I have expected from SONY!
Come on guys! This isnt the first time so stop relying on this b*llsh*t company. We have the developers here and they are even better than those "INCOMPETENT" developers from Sony.
So stop crying over spilled milk and just wait for JB port to our devices :good:

I don't know why people keel slagging off Sony as a company?
Personally I buy an SE phone for the hardware (who else makes a tiny phone with a useable hardware keyboard?) while knowing you can optimise the thing to personal taste by modding the firmware and using apps.
As for updates the Mini Pro got 200% of what it's predecessor got (the X10 Mini Pro which only got Eclair).

[U] 6.1.1.B.1.10 version firmware

I just saw this on PTCRB. 6.1.1.B.1.10 version firmware certified for the Xperia U (ST25i).
Could this be a Jelly Bean update? Because another ICS update would be 6.1.B... NOT 6.1.1.B
Suggestions?
p.s.: Still waiting for ICS.

I think that it is a Jelly Bean release.
But remember that even though it has been tested by ptcrb, is there no guarantee that this build is going to get released.
So even though a Jelly Bean release may be undergoing testing at the moment, could the next release be a ICS or even a GB release.
Sony (nor any other company) would release the latest OS to their entry level handsets and ignore their flagship models, That's a REALLY bad plan for keeping your customers happy....
You can bet the Jellybean will rollout will happen simultaneously (very unlikely)
Or...
High end: Xperia T/S/SL/AcroHD
Followed by Mid Range: Xperia P
Finally Entry Level: Xperia U
Xperia P, U, go and sola
Well it's being prepared for a number handsets:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/09/2...tified-for-xperia-p-u-go-and-sola/#more-10186
I doubt it's JB - Sony has not mentioned it, what manufacturer does that? They said ICS is incoming...though I agree with others - perhaps it is JB but to be released much later?
I had a 2010 and 2011 Sony device. The 2011 Sony device had a slight delay to ICS - which was eventually 4.04 I think - it was an improvement on the ICS they had already released for other 2011 devices - they fixed bugs. So perhaps our round of devices will get the updated, bug-fixed version of ICS also?

I was SOOOOOOO close to saying it's a typo - I have seen SO MANY websites makes typos on this stuff, including Sony phones, BUT this is a SONY website so it's true! Wow...
This changes things a bit then. So they have finished Jelly Bean enough to be releasing it's first phone on it, so it must be under testing for other phones? I'd imagine they'll do what they did with 2011 phones - guarantee all 2012 phones to get the next update, in this case, Jelly Bean. I hope the fact that they're working on this privately means they will make it as smooth as they can. I still can't stop thinking about O2 network in the UK NOT upgrading Sony phones to ICS "because the performance was so bad vs. Gingerbread".

Yes it could be a typo... or at least that they are missing to add that Android 4.1 will first be ready when it is done...
Same goes for the version number, that is being tested on PTCRB, but it is most likely a version, that is tested, for a later release of jellybean, for our devices.
Anyway, jellybean is worth a wait, so if we could get jellybean in a month, would I prefer that, compared to getting ics now.
It may be JB... but I don't expect it will be JB but a nearly perfect ICS firmware
edit: it is just a big ics update, got it from inside info
