Alright, I am not here to discuss the hardware of the HTC Amaze. I am in the workings of getting a new phone obviously my choices lay between the Amaze and Galaxy S2. I have had an android phone since the G1 and now have the G2. My question (and I am not hating) even though this phone is in the early stages of its lifecycle, do you guys think that the dev support for this phone will be like it is for the G2?
I realize the hard work the devs are doing for this phone (xboarder) and like, I appreciate all the work they do, cause without them we would have nothing. If I knew half the things you guys do about the android file system I am just wondering what the possibilites are?
Please no flaming or trolling, very disrespectful.

I think that most members around here would agree that the devs are waiting for ICS to be released for the Amaze before they start doing some hardcore stuff.
The ROMs are here, don't get me wrong but we only have about 3 or 4 devs by my count that are pushing out all those ROMs.
Xboarder himself has got like 4 to 5 that he already has out or is working on.
I'd like to believe that when ICS hits we would draw other devs.
Although that's not a for sure thing.
Either way, having it announced that ICS WILL come to the Amaze is enough of a reason to pick it up as your first choice, right?
To sum it all up we're waiting for ICS and true S-Off.
I'm sure with those two things in hand ROMs will take off.

The Amaze has great dev support (albeit from one, but he's awesome) but I don't think it'll be anything like the G2 was. The G2 had two main things going for it: first, it was a stock Android experience. Second, Steve Kondik (cyanogen) had told many people that he was going to be using the device as a daily driver. So many devs flocked his way. Let's just say the only reason I have the Amaze right now is because my G2 stopped working and I didn't know where to get another one. It was all the phone I needed at the time, and was trying to hold out for the Nexus.
I think the GS2 has better support for now, but that should change once ICS drops. If you really want a ton of development support, I say go for the Nexus. Me, I'm happy with the Amaze and QuickSense!

Good point, I wish I could wait for the Nexas, but I am selling my G2 to a family member and I told them I would this month. <-Dilemma
What made you choose the Amaze, if you don't mind me asking? I love my HTC phones, it would be different having a Samsung.
I made the same lineage, g1 to g2. And tbh I couldn't imagine using a phone that isn't htc (quality wise), I know the dev'ing will never be @ the g2 level, but we have some awesome devs and a strong device with promise of ics.
The zero lag shutter and unified sense 3.0 ui was an easy sell for me. If Samsung had produced the all white ver. sans that terrible touch wiz at the time of my purchase I might have made a different choice.

It compared them side by side in the store and for all the hype of the SAMOLED+ screen, it kinda reminded me of the original iPhone - less pixels stretched over a bigger screen. The Amaze looked great. PPI is where it's at!
I would rather have had the Samsung from a development standpoint (no locked bootloader and such) but the screen in the GS2 sucked balls.

^agreed on both counts^
Which is why I'm still considering the Nexus... no locked bootloader BS and it has an even higher PPI than the Amaze (over 300 vs ~250). The best of both worlds!
I for one believe development is doing great for the lack of open sources. The thing is that the amaze is really great straight out of the box that little development actual needs to be done except we all want custom kernels which would help our battery life and heck make it even smoother.
A lot of other phones development section has a lot of support but not all the roms and kernels being developed are being used, so you shouldn't compare and say since some phones has a lot of roms it has better support. I for one want quality over quantity.
But honestly once things are fully released for the amaze, developers will come. However, not many would want to compile a ROM or kernel from scratch like x and faux are working on. remember this phone is barely 2 months old. You'll see a huge expansion by January.

Can't you just install Launcher Pro (or similar)? That should replace Touchwiz.

TouchWiz and Sense both are throughout the entire OS. Replacing the launcher only really fixes the homescreen.

Ah. I thought the problem was with the homescreen arrangement. I acutally like the Sense enhancements like the extra widgets & etc.
Last month I was forced to decide between an Amaze and a Galaxy S2.
I also had a G1 and a G2. I used the vibrant for a while but i preferred my G2 mainly b/c of the keyboard. I played with the Amaze and the S2. I preferred the amaze because i would choose sense over touchwiz. And what really drew me to the amaze was the qHD resolution. If the s2 had a qHD resolution, i think i'd still be deciding what i want. Hope this helps
Hey guys, I've seen a lot of threads about our Amaze vs the SGS2, but not a whole lot about our Amaze vs the Galaxy Nexus. I could get a swap pretty easily, but I'm still on the fence about this, so I made a little list of reasons for and against the swap. I also want the opinions of my fellow Amaze users so your input is much appreciated!
Reasons to stay with the Amaze 4G
- the camera is MUCH better than the Galaxy Nexus, no contest there.
- the Galaxy Nexus has no microSD slot!
- the Amaze 4G is going to get the ICS update eventually, and with that, probably CM9 and more development
- the Amaze 4G has much better build quality
- the Amaze 4G has the option of HTC Sense ROMs for those who prefer it
Reasons to switch to the Galaxy Nexus
- the camera is inferior, however, it's still a decent camera that can replace your basic point and shoot
- 16 GB of storage is enough for most people, it may be inconvenient, but it can be bearable
- the Galaxy Nexus already has ICS, and since it's a world phone, it also has a much bigger development base
- the Galaxy Nexus sacrifices build quality for thinness and lightness, which some may prefer
- even though the screen is a pentile display, many may prefer the SAMOLED and higher resolution screen on the Galaxy Nexus over the SLCD screen on the Amaze
- it's a Google phone, meaning that it will most likely get the latest firmware updates (might even get to see Jellybean!)
- there are no soft keys, which means no soft key bleed problem so you'll have keys that are actually given a chance to light up (a problem that shouldn't have existed in the first place)
Miscellaneous
- the Amaze is clocked at 1.5 GHz and the GNexus at 1.2 GHz, but it does not necessarily mean that the Amaze is faster. In fact, while playing games and running apps, I actually found the GNexus to run a tiny bit faster than the Amaze, but in other cases, the Amaze seems to out-perform the GNexus by a little bit, so the speed difference between the two CPUs is not as big as you think and may even be considered negligible
- both phones have a multi-coloured notification LED
- put yourself in my shoes, if you were offered a straight-up trade, your Amaze 4G for a (like) brand-new Galaxy Nexus, what would you do?
What do you folks think? I love the camera on the Amaze but the handset's shortcomings are really beginning to bother me. To be honest, if I had known that HTC wasn't as developer-friendly as they claimed to be, I wouldn't have picked the Amaze up, but at the same time, the Galaxy Nexus also has its fair share of weaknesses.
I would have to keep my Amaze, simply because I found myself changing between aosp and sense Roms on my incredible. And since that it right around the corner...
I like sense too much to completely get rid of it, sometimes I do need a break from it though.

It's a fair trade, I'll just mention 2 things, you can't un-see the pentile layout, once you notice, you'll always notice, and yes... it IS noticeable (but bearable on 720).
also, Amoled screens burn in, so 6 months from now you'll have some solid color spashscreen on the phone, and notice that you can see your softkeys hinted inside of it, I know 3 people with the GNex, and it's already happening to them.
As mentioned the camera is decent, but not as good as the Amaze.
Jellybean will be on it VERY shortly after being released. It comes with PURE aosp, and CM9 will have no bugs other than ones caused by modifications to AOSP... The Amaze CPU is faster, but with a 3.0 kernel and ICS, the GNex is quicker for most things.
I love my Amaze, and the second I can have AOSP ICS and a 3.x kernel, I'd probably disagree with the trade, but for now, it's worth it.
I would stick with the Amaze. The point about the CPU difference will change greatly when the amaze gets ICS. GB isn't dual core optimised while ICS is.
The only thing that the GN has over the Amaze is official Google support and look how that turned out for the Nexus S and ICS... It took forever!

But it had CM9 builds almost immediately, and it didn't take long for the international Nexus S. The SPH-D720 is hardly a Nexus phone, it's a carrier phone, it works only on sprint, it's sold in their storefronts, and was never a "developer" phone. Although it took a little while for the i9020a/t to get ICS, they had a fully working build pretty much immediately after AOSP ICS source dropped.
Nexus line is for developers, the support is there, so if they don't get Jellybean immediately from google, the community will have it obscenely fast.
I'd have to side with the other amaze users out there and say keep the amaze.
The thing is, I always figure the nexus line was supposed to be the best "average" phone for developers. It's not supposed to be the latest and greatest at everything, it's supposed to represent the average android smartphone at the time of its release, so that if someone develops an app, they know that it'll work with the vast majority of android users. There's gonna be phones better than it and phones worse than it

Honestly, I really really wanted the Galaxy Nexus and waited for a while to see if it would come to Tmo. Google's launch for the device was mad sloppy and I got sick of waiting.
I couldn't give up my Amaze for the Gnex. I use the camera all the time and I love that about this phone. Since having it in December I have over 1,000 pictures taken with it. In fact, when I traveled across the country to visit Pensylvania and Maryland two months ago, I didn't even bring a digital camera with me. Just used the Amaze the entire time and it worked out well.
Sure, development is slow on it and for some mysterious reason HTC is releasing Kernal Drivers for everything BUT this phone, but I feel like that leaves this small community up to a challenge. The work being done to get CM7 onto the Amaze is coming along nicely, and once they get the GSM/Wifi/NFC drivers working we'll finally have an AOSP rom running on this thing. It may be annoying to most people that we haven't gotten it fully running, but I see this as a big acomplishment for the few developers that we have here.
So yeah, I think I'll stick with the Amaze for a while. Its been very good to me

What it is that you are skeptical about? I have used SGS II, 3 varieties, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and SGS original. I think, except than the feeling difference by holding the phone in your hand, there is nothing else which would make you worry of anything go wrong.
Compared to Amaze, yes, Nexus is totally different, 1 thing I love about Nexus phones is the Vanilla Android. Another thing I like about them is they have a different and whole new feeling about how one phone should feel like when you hold it or when its lying on your desk and someone overlooking is amazed with what its got, and the feeling it gives you with its curvy design is also something different which unfortunately no other manufactures have come up with.
On the other hand, I have used many htc phones too, i have had incredible s, amazing build quality. currently I am rocking Amaze 4g, a little bulky and heavy but phone feels good in hands, a little smaller and the fact that it too is made out of plastic, doesn't help much, but still a great phone.
Just my opinion.

No offence, but since you are saying you don't like samsung phones, what is it that you don't like?? and what is it that you don't like nexus phones? I loved my first google phone, the nexus one, i have used nexus s for a long time, and i do have a galaxy nexus, they are great.
Yet the fact that they come with vanilla, is a choice of your own, whether you like a phone with a custom skin or stock android is your cup of tea... but seriously, what is it that you don't like?

Idk... They look boring, they're super lightweight (im clumsy) and I HATED my friend's Vibrant and my coworkers Galaxy S on Sprint. I have never liked samsung phones. TVs are awesome though.

im with you on this, but.. my brother has the HTC incredible (still one of the best HTC phones made) and since its lightweight its harder for it to break/get damaged. our phones are bricks when it comes to weight lol so it would impact a lot more when dropping

I'm most likely leaving AT&T and coming to Sprint. There are 3 good phones on Sprint and it's really hard to decide which one to get. The Evo 4g LTE, SGS3, or the GN for Jelly Bean. If anyone could give me their opinions on those 3 devices (best roms, mods, etc.) that would be great. The GN is now only $99 on Sprint. Ugh. I hate that I can never make a decision.

I am having a similar issue. Im deciding betwees the s3 and the white evo lte. But I think im going with the evo tomorrow morning. It has better reviews. I have the ps2 for Sprint and the s3 does not seem that much of an upgrade to me.

I just did the exact same move, I had all three phones in the past three weeks.. i ended up with the EVO, and I'm very happy with it. The nexus had subpar battery, and bad signal strength.

What did you like of the EVO over the sgs3?
Also I looked on Sprint's coverage map and it shows that I am in "fair" territory. Does that mean I'll have poor signal?
I'm in the same boat. I have been an Android user since Day 1 since Oct 2007. I loved it. But I bought the Samsung Vibrant 2 years ago and was very sure that I would never buy another Samsung phone given their sorry upgrade track record and not releasing source code and binaries for their radios. So i was pretty sure I was going to grab the One X. The EVO LTE looks like the best one since it had a micro SD card and a dedicated camera button. The lack of removable battery is a problem, but after reading the reviews on the battery life, I thought I'd risk it.
But two things happened. Samsung released the same S3 model (bar the CPU for the US market) all over the world and they released the source code almost immediately. They don't have a locked bootloader (I know the HTC allows you to unlock it - bit it breaks the warranty). I hated ODIN initially, but it does make the Samsung phones practically unbrickable and they don't lock the bootloader, so I don't lose the warranty if I root it and install a custom ROM. I can always ODIN it back to stock and get a replacement if something goes wrong with the phone.
I haven't been keeping up with the HTC ROMs anymore so I don't know how it's going these days. I have been using ICS on my Vibrant since December. How long have you guys had an ICS ROM for the original EVO?
What's giving me pause in going for the EVO LTE is
1. Would the custom ROM scene on the EVO LTE be as good as the one on the S3? Given that the S3 is practically the same worldwide and Steve Kondik is now a Samsung employee with access to resources that might help CM10?
2. The reports of the multi-tasking on the EVO LTE are worrying. If the reason that the battery life is decent on the One X is because it's aggressively dropping background processes, that's not what I want. If I wanted crippled multi-tasking, I'd have bought an iPhone. How's the multi-tasking? If you load a game in the background, a browser loading a page in the background and switch to the email app, is it responsive? If you go back to the browser, does it start loading the page again? Or has it finished loading the page? I use planetandroid.com as my test case since it gives even Firefox on the desktop a problem (although Chrome on the desktop doesn't have any issues with it).
3. I read that it's because Sense is so resource hungry, they traded the multi-tasking to keep it in memory, but I see that that still doesn't work and Sense does keep getting swapped out and has to restart when exiting email or the browser or some big game. Is this still a problem with Nova Launcher? I read that this has been set at the kernel level. Does Auto Memory Manager help? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lim.android.automemman
I guess the extra 1 GB on the S3 helps. I have read some comparisons that the S3 is smoother multitasking than the EVO LTE.
I'd love to hear whether these are real problems or a custom ROM would solve them.
Edit: BTW, my biggest problem with the S3 is the display. It looks very dim. The One X simply smokes it!

After the updates sense no longer reloads, for me anyway. Multitasking aside, the One X has had the best battery life on any phone I've ever had by far. Android or iPhone. I love the One X that's why this is so hard for me to decide. The white Evo LTE looks sick. I'm also starting to like the customization of the sgs3 the more reviews I watch of it.
I just got 3 hours of screen on time on my One X before it got to 50%. By far my best yet.

I bought the nexus and it was amazing with vanilla ics roms were pretty awesome too, the curve to your hand made it by far the best hand held experience of any phone the only down side to it had sub par battery life I had to carry 2 batteries
I now have bought an EVO LTE and its nice but I think cause of the non curve it feels like a mini tablet atleast to me , but holy carp is it fast and snappy , and super bright, I did like a whole lot better on the nexus was swiping left to right to close out the task menu , sense made it so you can only go up to close them out wich Is slow and they didn't add the feature in the browser like the nexus did

If you go with the S3 u will be happy, after I had it for a couple of days all the extra customization of the S3 seemed trivial.and gimmicky, it was cool at first especially the gestures... But I ended up not using them at all. Yes I think the S3 is smoother than the EVO, but not by much. I hated the physical home button, it had way too much lag, and that's even with the S-voice turned off. You don't get full use of the home screen realestate on the stock UX, which was annoying. Those where my only complaints. My past three phones have been sammys, that's another reason I chose the HTC, I just wanted a change, and the build quality(external) and feel of an HTC phone in my opinion is far superior to Samsung. In the end don't beat yourself up with the desicion you will be extremely happy with either phone. Oh and I made the switch to sprint from ATT due to ATT raping me on data charges... Now I have to sacrafice service, but its worth the trade off.

With the Evo having source out now do you think it will get jb fairly quick? Same question for sgs3.
Also my One X gets pretty hot and I don't know if it's the battery causing it. I would love to be able to change out the battery. I miss that option.

I have "fair" coverage and I needed to get an Airave because I had zero or one bar everywhere in my house and couldn't have a conversation with anyone. Luckily, they gave me an Airave for free so now I have five or six bars everywhere in my house.

the NV upgrades near me have been brutal, tons of dropped calls, especially while on the move, but even still while sitting at home. I would also check the NV upgrade schedule to see if they are even coming to your area any time soon...I agree though, wait on sprint until NV is up and running in your area.
The S3 is indeed almost identical as the international version, with the exception that it uses the S4 krait like the ones in the Evo LTE, putting it in the same situation as the LTE and the One X. The One X's community looks to be pretty active, but with a different processor than ours, the roms are not exactly interchangable, so i would expect the same issue to be present for the LTE-specced S3s.
If you're talking about development though then the multitasking and sense issues shouldn't be a problem unless you actually like sense, in which case all i have to say is you're boned .
I chose the Evo because I like how solid aluminum bodied phones feel, and I have never liked the oversaturation that is present on every amoled-based screen that i've looked at. I held off upgrading from my OG Evo because when i held the SGS2 and then the Gnex, they both felt flimsy and cheap in my hands compared to my Evo. I'm sure that they're probably all equally fragile when dropped, but for something where i'm holding it any time i'm going to use it, the feel was very important to me, so i would say it mostly comes down to personal preference, like Mitsu Evo vs Subaru STi, or Cameros vs Mustangs, test drive them both and see which one you'd like best.

Yes. The same issue would be present for the S3 if the CPU is the only change. But I expect that the S3 would be probably be a well supported phone since it would sell so many and many devs would have it. I have been out of the HTC scene for a couple of years so don't know if the EVO has had good custom ROM support. eg. I have been running ICS since Dec/Jan on my Vibrant.

Sorry, what does "you're boned" mean? I'm an idiot for liking Sense, or if i use Sense, then the multitasking is a problem? I like the stock Google UI using Nova Launcher. But I haven't seen any definitive answer on whether using Nova Launcher alleviates the multi-tasking problem. If it does, then I'd be okay with not using Sense, although I do like some Sense widgets. But I can live with out them.

I have got used to the "flimsy" Samsung phones. I like the lightweight feel of them and they are surprisingly resilient. Check out the CNet's torture test for the S3. http://cnettv.cnet.com/8301-33814_53-57468819-10391737.html It's intense.

The S3 is definitely well supported and got a CM10 preview release this morning. The sprint variant has great devs lurking in the background so there's still lots of good stuff to see released.

So I bought a nexus 7, which began a journey from iOS to android; I bought a galaxy nexus, which is awesome, aside from the amoled- not a fan. I'm pretty ocd about screens, and my nexus has a half green tint and color over-saturation. My girlfriend likes it however, and is willing to trade me her upgrade for it.
I'm now shopping for another android phone- it needs to be Verizon, 4g, and I'd rather avoid samoled. This brings me to the Rezound, SLCD HD, 4g, sounds good. A bit hesitant regarding no jelly bean, pre-installed bloatware, etc. Is the rezound a good choice for me? Is rooting/custom ROM a good idea (I'm fairly tech savy, but this will be my first root since original Droid) Is HTC about to launch another Verizon flagship (incredible X?)

I can't speak to all of your questions, but the Rezound definitely has great development right now. Rooting and S-OFF have been around for a long time. The ICS kernel source code was released in August (or so), and now we've got some awesome aosp roms, tons of great sense roms, whatever you want. The screen is amazing (i've had mine for months and still marvel at it), and the only real downside is the supposed lack of battery life (which has improved greatly due to some fantastic kernels in the dev section) and it being a bit bulky. Other than that, it's a great device.
I agree with everything said above. Other than the Gnex, or the GS3(both of which I turned down to get my Rez), there aren't really any phones I'd consider other than my Rezound. I love HTC hardware. I can envision JB on the rezound in the next month or two as well.
While I was waiting for replies, I noticed the HTC incredible 4g also has an SLCD, and an s4 processor instead of the s3. Tough call. I love the higher resolution of the rezound, but the phone is close to a year old. I'd be nervous about going with another gnex or s3 because of my apparent aversion to amoled. Anyone have any idea how much better an s4 is? Im sure the benchmarks will show an improvement, but I wonder what that would actually translate to in real life. It would take a pretty decent boost in performance to dissuade me from the larger HD screen.

Good, because this gnex display is really annoying. Great contrast of course, but the bottom 3rd of the display is noticeably green, and the rest of the colors are insanely saturated. Rezound it is. Thanks for the help!

Don't lock yourself into a contract though, new phones coming out every day so keep your options open.
I bought the galaxy nexus off contract, and am trading it to the gf for her upgrade, because I have unlimited data and don't want to lose it by using my subsidized upgrade. I certainly get my money out of my data plan

The Rezound is a great phone but I would have to say the SGS3 is better (my gf has one, on at&t though so I can't attest to the VZW dev community). The Rezound is a brick like the OG Droid was and the battery life is kind of crappy, but there are good sides to it: the ibeats headphones are pretty damn good, the screen is absolutely amazing (but the downside is that it absolutely annihilates batteries when at 75% or greater brightness), it's pretty fast most of the time and the dev community has just had a recent revival due to the release of the kernel source code.
The thing with getting a brand new phone is that it's going to be locked down (unless you buy a dev edition phone) and the roms aren't going to exist for a little while until the device is hacked. I found this out the hard way with the Rezound since it was the first phone I bought that didn't already have an established community. I bought the OG Droid about 3 or 4 months into it being released and bought the Incredible about a year into it's life, I got the Rezound on launch day and it took two months for it to get unlocked and about 7 months for it to get S-Off, so there was a lot of waiting involved. But good things come to those who wait
As others said: it's a great phone, but do you really want to be locked into a 2 year contract when the phone is already 11 months old? If you can get it and then sell it or give it to your girl in 6-12 months then I say do it, otherwise I'd say wait to see what comes out in the next few months. You may be kicking yourself that you got a phone that was already a year old when a quadcore 2 GHz beast debuts...
I really like the galaxy s3, but I don't think I can take another chance on an AMOLED again. Seriously, this Galaxy Nexus is burning my eyes >_< I agree the Rezound is old... but, spec wise, I would think it would last, especially if I can get a good ROM on it. If I rule out SAMOLED, then there are only three current options: Rezound, incredible 4g, iPhone 5. and app tethering isnt available on ios, which I need. Im sure you're right though, new phones are around the corner; however my gf will use her upgrade instead of trading if I wait too long. I wish Verizon had the One X; that would be perfect. Aside from that, I still think the rezound is my best option - but I'll be sure to give the gs3 another look.

Just don't get an iPhone.
I like apple hardware, but at this point iOS is boring and restrictive. Just played with a couple of store demos at Verizon; its between the gs3 and Rezound. I wonder if they would let me check the gs3 for tinting before I buy it. But even then, supposedly amoled degrades with time, leading to more tinting. I'm pretty sure the Rezound is the way to go- maybe not the best android software out of the gate, but there's no arguing with that SLCD HD display.

No. The amount of development on the rezound is no where close to what is available on the galaxy nexus. Its not even close to what even something like the one x has. Anyone who is telling you otherwise is dreaming. There are some work in progress aosp builds but even the RAZR with its locked boot loader has more stable aosp. This combined with the poor battery on the rezound compared to the nexus makes it hard to suggest getting it now especially if you are into aosp. Aosp simply runs perfectly with no glitches on the nexus. Even on devices like the galaxy s3 aosp its not perfect like it is on a nexus.
If your coming from stock jellybean sense 3.6 simply is not going to please you. Its no where near as smooth, sucks battery at idle and just doesn't fit the of ui of ICS and holo. I am just letting you know this now. You've experienced stock android first and have seen how lite and responsive it can be. I know many people here don't want to hear this but its the reality.

If there was any smartphone slated to get jelly bean on Verizon, and didn't used amoled, I'd be on it. Unfortunately the One X seems to be the only phone in that category, and I don't see it coming to verizon. Screen uniformity and color accuracy are my most desired traits in a display, and amoled just doesn't bring that to the table, in my experience. I think that leaves the rezound as the best choice, bloated ICS or not.

Download Franco kernel and flash it to your device. If your rooted you can just
Buy is app and flash it through that. His app allows you to control the colors which are already much better on his kernel than stock.
You also can just use color control on the stock kernel I believe. Amoled screens can have their white level calibrated much more than LCD because they produce their own light.

I'm aware you can calibrate the screen, but as far as I know that won't fix uniformity issues. For instance, my galaxy nexus has a green tint on the bottom third of the screen, whereas the rest of the display is (comparatively) normal. Maybe the gs3 samoled is improved, which is why I'm going to check it out in person before I buy.

Hi guys, is it worth buying an HTC One if I have the S3 right now? I think the S4 has better specs, but slightly and their software is mainly gimmicks. I just use a few of their features: auto reply messaging when a phone call comes in if I cannot pick up the phone, smart alert, and multiwindows. Can I work with Sense 5 to fill in those voids? I had the Sensation as my last HTC phone. Been with HTC on three phones, the G1, MyTouch 4G, and Sensation (like I said before.) Sense was decent. I like Touchwiz better, but the One just looks great for a phone. Is it that much of difference between other phones cameras despite having a 4 Ultrapixel quality camera with HTC Zoe?
I just gave my Note 2 to my brother and got myself a HTC One with T-Mobile. Totally worth it. The HTC One is the iPhone skin (elegant design) with Android soul inside.

Sense 5 is really nice. This is the first time I decided not to use nova launch but stock sense on ARHD rom. You won't miss Touchwiz at all. I found it a bit cheesy on the Note 2

Agreed first stock launcher I've used. I don't feel the need for other launchers. I love blink feed. The ZOE feature is underrated. Calls never drop for me. Sound ids amazing from speakers and headphones. Movies look amazing.

I think you can do OK on Sense to do similar things, but not those directly.
Just wait for the Google edition Samsung Galaxy S4 on June 26th.

It's definitely an upgrade from the s3. I miss smart stay though. I wanted something different since I have been with Samsung since before the first galaxy. I have noticed a few things. The camera is not as good and doesn't focus well, people will disagree but if you do some research it's a pretty standard complaint. The Wi-Fi receiver is not as good and I often drop signal (another standard complaint). But other than those issues it's a beautiful phone. I love the design. Blink feed is better than I thought. Sense 5 is outstanding but I'm returning mine for an s4. The camera was something I was excited about but it doesn't quite get there. The Wi-Fi thing is annoying enough to be an issue. If those 2 things are not important to you then it is worth it to make the switch. Sound really is good. HTC backup is the best I've seen. It just depends on what is important to you.

i dont know where you got your info but you probably didnt get the update that fixed the camera and sound recording quality. go to the international forum someone did a test with the s4 and one camera side by side video front and rear. the ones camera is sharper. image stabilization doesnt exist on the s4. i have no issues with wifi and never have.
just so you know im not an htc fanboy this is my first htc device. all other devices ive owned have been samsung and one motorola.

Where did you get the update? Did you flash one of the international or dev builds? I thought that the camera fix build hadn't been pushed in the US.

Good to know that some US phones already have 1.29. I think I got mine about a week ago, but it's 1.27 and I've heard nothing about the 1.29 update forthcoming OTA.

thats weird because i got mine like 3 weeks ago but yea there have been other updates since 1.29. version is 1.29.401.16r now which is latest to address volume level that was lowered with original 1.29 update
also i have read that within the next month htc will be pushing a 4.2.2 update
I really enjoyed my S3. Thankfully I gave it to my wife when I upgraded to the H1 so I still get to hold it.
The things I miss most are the alarm, quick response texts, and the awesome LED notification light.
I don't regret upgrading at all as the H1 is a much more refined phone. It is much faster, smoother, and sexier. There's a chance I may get some small regrets later when the Motorola X phone, Nexus 5, and Note 3 are released...

I'm not sure exactly what info you are referring to. Most is hands on. And no I did not get the fix since it has not been released yet in the US other than on sprint I believe. Other than rumors there is no definitive time frame on when the official release is supposed to happen.Also you can do a google search for htc one vs galaxy s4 and see for yourself. The s4 camera wins everytime. It does have digital image stabilization, just not optical image stabilization. And it's awesome that you don't have WiFi issues but there are plenty of people who do. I'm just giving the guy an honest comparison. My opinion is based off of my experience and nothing more. I actually read a post about WiFi issues before buying the phone and ignored it and bought it anyway.

I had the nexus 4. Honestly I'm wondering whether it's worth it. The n4 was faster in scrolling Tapatalk and 8 tracks. Two things I've noticed and only been using phone less than 24hours

So after doing more research I came across a fix for the WIFI Issue. For some reason HTC decided to turn WIFI reception down in order to save battery. There is a checkbox in the advanced WIFI settings for "Best WI-FI Performance". I have no idea why they would not default to this setting but it seems to improve WIFI range drastically. Having a slightly lower quality (but still pretty damn good) camera is not enough reason for me to return the phone. I will be keeping my HTC One.

It's definitely an upgrade from the s3. I miss smart stay though. I wanted something different since I have been with Samsung since before the first galaxy. I have noticed a few things. The camera is not as good and doesn't focus well, people will disagree but if you do some research it's a pretty standard complaint. The Wi-Fi receiver is not as good and I often drop signal (another standard complaint). But other than those issues it's a beautiful phone. I love the design. Blink feed is better than I thought. Sense 5 is outstanding but I'm returning mine for an s4. The camera was something I was excited about but it doesn't quite get there. The Wi-Fi thing is annoying enough to be an issue. If those 2 things are not important to you then it is worth it to make the switch. Sound really is good. HTC backup is the best I've seen. It just depends on what is important to you.
