[Q] Who Caved and went ebaying? - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I did. Couldn't put up with "backorder for 30 days" email from best buy on my 11/30 preorder. Paid $759 plus $14 plus overnight shipping. Got UPS confirmation that it will be delivered before 3 tomorrow. No regrets, yet.

"Quality", where are you from, Arkansas?

I'll sell mine for $700 wifi works just not ipad2 strong like I need it to be for work. near Kansas /Oklahoma border

Someone in my city is selling one on craigslist

Ordered a 64Gb from B&H and they don't know ****, and after the rumors of delay to Q2 and that Amazon will ship Jan 25 - Feb and that the launch in Sweden is also late Jan/Feb. I decided to buy from Ebay. but the thing that really triggered was what B&H wrote on facebook
" B&H Photo Video Pro Audio*‎Jeffrey Galles*- I think we got champagne today. In all honesty I didn't know there were two colors until a little while ago."
They don't even know what they are selling and have available for preorder on there site, First and last time I will have anything with B&H to do.
The one from Ebay is over priced but what is there to do when I don't want to wait like 1 to 2 months and by that time the Prime is "old" and there will be other products to look at.

I don't know... if you have the money, then sure, you one-percenters can do whatever the hell you want.
But, in the grand scheme of things, you'll only be using this a week or so (I seriously doubt it'll take another month) early so was it worth it? I mean, you can basically do everything on a computer. Tablets are not needed -- they're awesome to use but they don't do much in terms of productivity (especially when compared to laptops/pcs).
Also, by buying off the guys on eBay, you are perpetuating the reselling process. Do you know a big reason you didn't get your pre-order? Because some **** bought 10 of these first and resold them on eBay. Guys like these really serve no economic value. (retailers provide distribution channels and outlets, what do resellers do?)

1%? I think there are quite a few people in the 99% that can afford to pay a couple extra hundred dollars more for a tablet.

ebay is too risky.
Easy to get scammed by someone trying to capitalized on the shortage supply and high demand.
It's not worth it, I can wait a little longer till local retails began getting supplies in after x-mas.

eBay is why pre-ordering sucks. Douchbags waste inventory which ruins it for the rest of us. Really pre-orders should come with a 6 month no-resale clause with head-crushing as punishment.

You can tell your "Occupy XDA" story walking pal. A week? I'm on backorder with BB for 30 days and nobody knows what the real story is. Hell, I had a Gamestop manager tell me he overheard a conference call he wasn't supposed to be privy to and that he heard that there were only 1000 tablets shipped to the U.S. and that Gamestop got 600 of those. If tablets are not needed then why are you trolling this forum and dropping your mighty wisdom? The reason I didn't get my preorder has nothing to do with someone buying in bulk, it's because BB and the other companies got duped by ASUS just like last year. People pay for goods based on the value they perceive that said goods provide to them personally. If an individual made $250 or so off me then good, eliminating the frustration and time I put into this debacle is worth it to me.

Ebay is showing three (or so) 64GB primes. If they are truly 64GB primes, that is encouraging that they have made at least one run. Don't know why they are not available yet for sale though.

The one's I found are sold from Taiwan.
Doesn't we have any xda member trombone Taiwan that can verify that the 64Gb is available to buy in store in Taiwan..

Too risky. There is a good chance the ones on eBay are from the bad wifi batch. And I saw one seller with a description that said he got several from Bestbuy.com yet he also copy and pasted the list of free games from Gamestop, including the part that says "Purchase a New Android(TM) Tablet Customized by GameStop and get free digital games!" So I wouldn't believe anything he says

Price drop or refurb?

I know this tablet is already a great price for what it cost.
I am just wondering if there is any chance of another sale before xmas, or if there is an official venue I can get refurbs from?
Check out bestbuy. Or htc.com its self.

If you always wait for something to go "on sale" you will never have anything, because something newer and bluer will come around and then you will wait until THAT goes on sale.
Get the one from BB. It's $299. I bought mine last Friday and I think it's great!.

lol. Which is exactly why I always start doing xmas shopping about 3 months a head of time
I narrow down what I am looking for and then evaluate what is coming out, what is out, and what is just going to be unfeasible to get.
I am most certainly not one of those fools who believes it is always better to wait, I've been burned for doing it before.
On the other hand, I also do my best to balance out my budget and I am usually ok with settling.

I gotta admit, it is the first tablet that has caught my eye.
ipad wasn't impressive, and the galaxy tab just seemed overpriced and rather generic.. (especially at 500$)
BB would be your best bet for finding an open box (They dont sell refurbs in the store, only returned items) possibly on their website though.
You're not going to find them discounted much less than $300, the cost on the item for retailrs is $429, so they are already selling at a loss.
The $299 price was to good to pass up for me. Any lower and we're talking "fire sale".
It's a great device at a great price right now.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
Oh, I'll definitely keep that in mind then.
It's sold out on the BB web site and most local (to me) stores are out of them here - there's only one with them in stock within an hour drive, so I doubt they will drop the price. Hopefully they're making more of them and the $299 price wasn't just to sell off what was left. I redeemed some CC points for a bestbuy gift card with the intention of buying one, I just hope by the time they get here I can find one...

Curious need some opinions... buy used or not to buy used?

As stated in title, I wanna buy a prime tablet from amazon but their prices are ridiculous at the moment. The only one close to the average 499$ price tag are the used ones.
With all the problems I've been reading about this tablet, I still feel drawn to testing my luck.
The main reason I want to use Amazon is for the "billmelater" option. March is a very heavy birthday filled month in my family so I wont have the actual cash till around may.... I don't want to wait until may.
Also, if i have to start with the sending back n forth process because of light bleeds, reboots, etc etc how is the process with Amazon.com? Is it a headache?
Thanks in advance for everyone's opinion on the matter. I want to make a purchase soon so it can come tomorrow hahaha I want to play with this tablet asap.
Why not just get it new at Officedepot.com? If you order now you will receive it by "Estimated Delivery Date: 02/10/2012." Just checked for you That's where I ordered my Prime. I have no issues whatsoever No wifi/BT fallouts. GPS works great!

If you buy a used prime at $499, your not looking hard enough. But if you really want a prime here is one at jr.com:
Asus Prime Jr.com
Or go to your local BestBuy and tell the sale's clerk you want place an "OMS order SKU: 4038674" theyll ask for a mode of payment and ask you if you want if you are picking up at the store or home delivery in about a week. Even if they are out of stock at BestBuy the "OMS" will check the one of the warehouse of Bestbuy and get you one.

Because I want to pay with "Bill Me Later" so I can pay in installments or all at once within 6 months without interests rates. I don't have the option of dishing out ~550$ TODAY. Not sure what you're trying to say but it seemed like "if they are selling it this close to release...." which I agree that's why im extremely hesistant. But I don't understand why the Amazon prices are so incredibly high when they are supposed to be the cheaper online stores.

The reason is that those aren't being sold by Amazon, they're being sold by other companies THROUGH Amazon's storefront. They're basically what you would find if you went to eBay--third parties selling them at a premium because demand continues to outstrip supply.

Amazon doesn't control the prices for their third party vendors. Amazon just controls the prices where Amazon is the seller. As previous poster pointed out, other vendors use the Amazon storefront, which is the case here. When Amazon sells the Prime, Amazon prices it at $499.

as for buying it used....I agree with the others (it's most likely returned models from the early batches) b/c it's a lot more trouble than it's worth
hope that helps
I'm not sure how many TFP's have been returned, but its possible factory refurbed TFP's might be available soon at a discount. If you can wait a month, you might get a good deal.

Just to be perfectly clear, these higher-priced units are NOT being sold by Amazon, and Amazon is NOT setting the prices on them. They're being sold by 3rd parties at whatever price those 3rd parties want to sell for. Again, it's like eBay, only through Amazon's equivalent (pretty much anyone can sell things through Amazon).
When Amazon ITSELF has the Prime in stock, they sell it at the standard retail price ($499 for 32GB, $599 for 64GB).

32GB TFP for sale w/dock

Ran into some hard times, and I need to sell my TFP
Bought it from GameStop and they don't return cash. The dock and tablet
are in great condition. Here's the eBay link. No lightbleed, wifi works great, bluetooth is fine also, and is on Android ICS 4.0. Like I said, having a baby so need the money lol.,
http://www.ebay.com/itm/130672580434?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649
Android 3.2 Honeycomb? Have you not updated it to 4.0.3 ICS?
I'd change your posting to include ICS - may be a little more tempting to those not fully aware of the TFP...
Also mention the keyboard dock extends the battery life by upto 4hrs and can be used to read SD cards and USB memory sticks and HDD's etc
Good luck with the sale and your new baby

Dont really have a recommendation. Just wondering if you had some extras that would allow you to charge $25 over new retail.
A price I would recommend? Lets look at some facts that you may or may not find relevant.
When a car is driven off the lot, you can't sell it for the $60,000 you bought it for. At most you could get for it by selling it is $48,000 to $54,000.
You've 'driven' your 'car' off the lot when you removed the vacuum wrap seal on both boxes. The most I would spend on the tablet is about $425-$450 and $90-$100 for the dock. So the total price I would pay would be $515 to $550.
There still might not be a lot of stock available, but it is definitely improving fast. If they hadn't of ramped up production I would have said you might have gotten your $650 you paid for back out of it, but not now.

I wouldn't exactly call that a fact... I sell cars and while what you said in theory makes sense. It isn't entirely true..
None the less, an item is worth what someone will buy it for. Look at finished listings on Ebay and aim for the highest one. The Prime with dock shouldn't be hard to find in most areas but I had to search a little to find mine. Ebay touches everyone... Someone will spend the money. Worst case scenario you can always meet in the middle but you always, always start high, pending your motivation to sell anyway.
I wouldn't lower the price unless you need the money fast. People are stupid, I've sold many things on Craigslist above retail price. They think they are getting a deal on CL.

houses typically go up in price but ya you are right. i saw a tfp 32gb + dock + case for $550 on craigslist here in DC.
I'm in Houston (Sugar Land) and I think I've seen your ad.
here's my take on the price.
1: it's a tablet and 85% of people out there wouldn't think of our tablet as "the tablet" to get especially the iPad3 just came out. everyone will be looking for an iPad so if I were you on CL, add some meta words to it to get people's attention.
2: because we don't own a pedestrian tablet, most people wouldn't plunk all that cash for something they don't know. Doing a search for our tablet doesn't come back too favorably either; not that it's a bad tablet but with the issues that the tablet has, even my parents knows about it and they're super AARP members. I wouldn't put "Firm" in your CL ad. As an active CL user (both back in NYC and now Houston), anytime anyone put in the word "FIRM", I click the back button. The whole "charm" with CL is the ability to, for a lack of a better word: haggle.
3: If you think cars depreciate fast, have you looked at technology? Yeah, the price fluctuates up and down (like a Prius when it first came out) but overall, they only head in one direction once leaving store shelves: down. To exasperate the bad situation are the "next model" people. These are the "next model" waiters and will look at the $600 now and get X or $600 next month and get Y which is greater than X. Speaking from experience, I waited almost 6 months for the Prime. I was going to pull the trigger and get a TF101 and REALLY needed something since my laptop screen died (thank god for the stupid $120 extended warranty from Dell) but I still waited after hearing about the Prime coming out Q3/Q4 of 2011.
Basic marketing P's:
People
Price
Promotion
Placement
People: you're selling an item that majority of people know nothing about. Not like Verizon or AT&T Wireless are pushing it like the Galaxy Tab. Your audience is limited.
Price: well, $600 is big coin for economic times like this for most people. Not suggesting you give it away but do set a price that people can't say no to or add OBO to get more bites; I don't know how much interest has been stirred on your CL listing so I can't say if your price is good but for me, it's on the high side.
Promotion: well, you got it on ebay and CL and now here but the price you're selling it at doesn't help the promotion.
Placement: You're in Sugar Land? I'm in Sugar Land as well and it's not a bad place to sell high end electronics but you have to take in consideration the people who are well off in Sugar Land are also educated or are willing to educate themselves on items they are buying.
Good luck on the sale and as someone once said: I'd rather be lucky than good.
Thanks

Poll: Craigslist Or Ebay For Selling Old Devices?

Just wondering what everyone's preference is.
I jumped on the $49 refurbish Galaxy S3 deal to upgrade my wife's iPhone 4.
I may look into upgrading to Note 2 as soon as a refurbish is available (3-6 months?).
Android devices get AWFUL resale value (my Note 1 is worth less than my wife's iPhone 4) from online sites like Amazon/Gazelle, so only way to go is Craigslist or Ebay. I am in New York City so just wondering what is everyone's experience? Her phone is in great condition but power port and home button are not as reliable as it once was (both typical issues for iPhone's).
In my experiences you're going to get the top dollar amount from E-Bay selling your device unlocked. But then you have to deal with shipping, feedback, eBay's %, etc.
I strictly use Craigslist. I'm usually flexible on the price. Plus, start a little high and leave room to barter. Everyone likes to barter. It makes them feel like they got a better deal. You also don't have to wait while your auction ends. You get cash as soon as you sell.
Now, this all depends on the device you're selling. A Note1: Craigslist. Much more common device and not as high of a price tag. A Note2: EBay. Catch the big market of people willing to drop $600-800 for a device. You'll rarely find that on CList.

Both are good place to buy phone from provided the seller can put it in writing that the device will not be reported stolen, insurance claim or lost.
The device may work for several months or so, then suddenly it won't. The seller has then reported it either stolen lost or claimed insurance on it, the IMEI or ESN is then block by the carrier. Buyer beware.
I prefer eBay simply because you can get a good idea of who you are buying from or selling to by their feedback scores. You can require buyers have certain scores or higher as well as require immediate payment through PayPal. You can charge them shipping. One con is you get hit with a seller fee of around 9% if it sells. But craigslist people are more likely to try to haggle your selling price.

I liked ebay till they got greedy between their fees and paypal fees, your losing at least 25% of your profit. You have to raise your price to offset them and nobody will buy.
The last 2 devices I sold weren't touched on ebay. Must have relisted for free 6 times. I put them on craigslist and they sold in 3 weeks. I got $275 for a 2 year old iphone 3gs-32gb/wht (mint) and $275 for my 6 month infuse (mint). I would not have gotten nearly this much profit on ebay. And Craigslist is free.
Beware of people wanting to pay via paypal and have you ship when selling on craigslist. Usually a scam.
Deal face to face and cash only. Sell local.
I like CL but man the spam and bs you get is really getting out of hand

There needs to be some admins that clean it up like the ones in xda.

I dont think that would help. What they do (spammers) is send you an email from one address and the reply is to another. And then the spamming begins. "I like to arrange for payment and shipment and I am going to pay you x dollars more than your asking price blah blah blah. Or its a simple as "is this item still available for sale" seems innocent but nope. they also put the signature as if they are emailing from a cell phone. Smart F ers.....
Use swappa.com for selling android devices, $10 flat flee and PayPal free.

One thing I've noticed on eBay when selling my smart phones is that buyers will refuse to pay. One time the guy was bidding on multiple phones and thought he paid to much for mine. Another I never received any communication from the buyer.
I was able to realist but what a hassle and time consumer. Then of course you have the eBay and PayPal fees.

I usually sell my phone on CL before ebay. Only thing i hate selling on Cl is people spamming me with i'll pay by paypal and you ship it to Africa etc.... Ebay is ok for me if i'm buying. Hate to deal with all the hassle of shipping and then paying ebay and paypal after your item is sold!
Yeah the spam lately on cl is out of control

Swappa is so easy. Ebay is my thorn.
I am ttrying to sell my old hero. I posted it as rooted and on a custom Rom. Now the guy has my funds on hold because he can't get it activated. Such a pain. Swappa is so simple and easy. It is where i picked up my note.

I listed my og note on Craigslist, eBay and Amazon. Ebay is not the place to sell of you want to get the most money for your sale and there are many people that buy and no pay so it becomes a hassle and time wasting. Amazon is the safest one if you want to sell something quick (given a competitive price) I had a guy purchase it for 420 but after shipping and fees I was going to make 375$. I had my listing on Craigslist until the last day when I had to ship it and I received a text from a guy interested on it. We met up 400$ after (made sure real bills) I went home and canceled the Amazon order. Lollll Craigslist is all about patience and knowing when to lower your price as time passes. Hence I started to sell my note for 470 plus accessories lolll

I've bought and sold ten devices on CL in the past couple years. Its a great place to get good deals.
I never use eBay anymore really. Not like I used to.
Three times on eBay I have had an auction go through the roof on price within the first couple of hours only to find at the end of the auction that the "buyer" was a fake. I have no proof, but I think other sellers use throwaway email addresses to artificially boost the price on competing auctions. Case in point: I listed my wife's old Galaxy Skyrocket when I bought her the refurb Note for $49. Within 2 hours of the listing start (at $80), the auction hit $719. Seven days later at the end of the auction, no payment. After filing the complaint, no word from eBay. And they are STILL going to charge me the listing fee even though the buyer was bogus.
Then on the Skyrocket I tried Craig's List. Four Western Union and PayPal offers for twice as much as I was asking for within the first hour if I would "ship immediately". One even sent a bogus "Western Union" payment email without knowing my name, email address or virtually anything else. I updated the add to say "local pickup only" and next came the "please drive the phone to my location as I don't own a car" messages. The ad lived for a day on Craig's List before I pulled it.
Years ago, I sold a couple of things on Amazon's auction site. I am not sure how to do that today, and even if I did (assuming they still do that), I am not sure I would get much because I am not convinced there is the same traffic there.
I went to Gazelle. They sent me a box and when they got it, a $125 e-gift card from Amazon. I probably could have had more selling it myself, but who has the time to deal with the BS? I guess I was lucky in that Gazelle saw value in what I had. I have a Asus Transformer TF700T that I am about to sell, and they aren't interested in that. And I hate the thought of having to use either Craig's List or eBay, but I am not sure there is another way.
I sold one of my old CB radio mics on eBay, as is, no returns, because it was old, and I can't control how the buyer hooks it up. The buyer complained to eBay it didn't work, they MADE me return his money, then a couple weeks later I got a different mic back. You have to be extremely careful how you word your ad, I try not to use them anymore.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the XDA Marketplace. I've bought and sold many devices on both Ebay and CL but I have gotten the best results lately right here. No fees, cool community, and the ability to negotiate trades is great! I run an electronics store and I'm going to start selling some of our clearance merchandise on the market if it doesn't break any rules.

Gauging On eBay - SMH!

Can you believe people trying to get 40-100% markup on these on eBay?
People outside the U.S. that can't get them locally, I'd gather.
Talk about exploiting a situation..... SMH!
I remember Cabbage Patch Kids. Gouging has been happening for a while now, regardless of the product. If its in demand, someone will price gouge.

It may also just be that people with money want things and can afford it.
It may not make sense to you... But for the guy who is making 5 times what you do.... Paying double still feels like less, and time is money, why **** around?
I saw those $1000 for a 32gb one... Who woudl buy that? Its almost worse than iPhone people
You call it gouging, I call it supply and demand or capitalism.
They have every right to ask whatever they want for things they sell - more power to them if they can get someone to actually pay it.

Its not sold out so no that wouldn't work here. You can still buy it directly from google right now therefore it's not a supply/demand thing because the supply is there.

Except that it's apparently not available in some countries yet. Someone in Argentina I think it was complained about not being able to get one for a while, if ever. And if it DID become available, the price would be greatly increased.
So...it sucks because they're getting price gouged even more, but at least it's available...personally, I wouldn't increase the price by more than, I dunno, $50 or so to cover my minimal time and effort? But that's just me.

Yes but not state side or in one of the launch countries. I find it hard to fathom someone paying that much for a 32gb but then again some people don't care.
I am not from the U.S. and I bought the Nexus 5, Nexus 6 , Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 9 from Google US Play store.
Now I pre ordered the Nexus 6P ?

Supply and Demand, I'm not surprised at all.
Also not saying it's right, but it is a free economy, but shame on Google for only releasing it in certain area's.
EBay has always had a few ripoffs Sellers after Nexus launches...

There is plenty of supply this time, because you can still buy any of the eight configuration from Google store. It is crooks trying to trap uninformed people.

No, it's supply and demand. The supply in the US is plentiful, but it is not in other areas.
Also, for the instance of someone buying one in the US, that I'm sure you'll bring up, it is still supply and demand. The person selling is assuming they will have their pre-ordered device before a regular person will be able to pick one up in a store. So they are going to sell it to the person who really really wants it but didn't get a pre-order in early enough. If the person buying is willing to pay that high of an amount to get a phone a little early, then the demand has been created, and the seller is fulfilling that demand with their supply.
For example I pulled this off a $1,000 ebay listing.
"This pre-order item was ordered from Google early on the onsale date, and is expected arrive at my address November 4th - November 6th. I will immediately ship it upon receipt to the purchaser of this auction. In the unforeseen event of Google being unable to deliver the phone to me by November 11th, a full refund of the purchase price will be offered to the purchaser. "
That bolded part right there, would technically get to ME before my pre-order which quoted me Nov. 10-12, so the people who got in early, are banking on others wanting this thing yesterday, and they might be willing to pay.
With that said, are the people selling them for $1000 crooks, no, they have the right to do whatever they want with it, once they own it. However anyone who buys it for that price is a moron.
What ever happen to opportunist capitalism?
The value of the item is worth what someone will pay for it. If they can get it, kudos to them. If not, no one will buy it from them and the eBay auction will be back to MSRP. The buyer is fronting the cost of the good in hopes they can sell it for cost + eBay fees. I see nothing wrong with asking for the moon and settling on a tidy 10 or 15 percent profit.

Not sure i see an issue with it . People that have money will pay for what they want for what ever reason, weather its something they cant get in there county/ location or there is a supply issue and someone has it wants to take advantage of the situation to make extra money. no one is forcing anyone to pay those prices.
I wouldn't pay those prices for something i would just wait to find it cheaper lol
