[Q] Download Nokia Drive/Music on non-UK 800? - Nokia Lumia 800

I've got a non-UK lumia 800 so it didnt come preloaded with nokia drive and music. I've set my regions to UK. anyone know how to force download these apps onto a non-UK phone? (I kinda bought a nokia WP for these apps)

They should be in the Marketplace, check that you have set your Zune account region to the UK.

Nokia Drive/Music only comes preloaded from the factory and are not on the marketplace. You can however get Nokia Maps by searching the marketplace for 'Nokia' and if you can't find them that way in the Windows Phone 7 Development forum there is a post with xap's you can deploy to get marketplaces from various OEM's on your phone.

[Q] Difference between firmware images?

I'm a recent Lumia 800 owner and impatient for updates. With the availability of 8107.11501 from DPM (downloaded OK) I might give it a go. Perhaps someone could tell me the difference between, say, a UK image and a DE image? And what difference is there between a Cyan and Black image?
Thanks.

There are not so much differences.
1) Some countries have very specific apps bundled (example: switzerland has a train schedule app)
2) Some countries don't have all nokia apps preinstalled. Example: HK version is missing nokia drive, nokia music, and so on.
3) The default Language after first boot may be different. Example: the Netherlands ROM starts with the NL Language by default. You can change it.
Otherwise the ROM are identical and you can easily add\remove missing or unneeded apps from marketplace app, so what is really important is the firmware version
4) Avoid far east ROMs, they usually don't have nokia drive, that is the only app that you can't install later from marketplace
The difference between colours are related to default theme colours and i guess some camera software settings to balance the effects of phone colour on the pictures you take.
Thank you for a very complete explanation.
Which Country Variant ROM is having all the apps that are preloaded like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Mix ????
UK has them.
Well, not Nokia Mix, because that doesn't exist... I presume you're referring to the Mix Radio function of Nokia Music?

My unbranded UK version came loaded with Nokia Music, Nokia Maps, and a place marker for Nokia Drive. I had to go to the market place to actually get Nokia Drive installed.
It also came with a bunch of other special apps unique to Nokia. I removed many of them.
Mine had drive pre-installed, wonder why yours only had a marker. But yes there was also some stuff that was instantly removed.

When I went to open Nokia Drive, it loaded a page telling me to get it from the Marketplace. Odd.

[Q] Upgrading from 7.8

Hi All,
I'm planning to get the Nokia 920. I've had Samsung Focus (original) since WP7 first launched and have many apps that I've bought.
How does it work upgrading from WP7.5 to WP8?
I know somewhere online on the WP7 site, there is a list of all apps. Is there an easy way to re-download those apps or do I have to search and download them individually? Also, what about other stuff on the phone?
Is there an easy way to back-up and upgrade to Nokia 920?
I've heard about WP8 not supporting Zune and am kind of confused how it works.
Has anybody here upgraded from 7.5 to WP8?

You can redownload your apps from the web. when you goto your previous purchase's you can "send to phone" in order for it to redownload on the phone.
Also, for purchases you can click buy on the phone as if you were going to buy it again and it will give it to you again for free.

As far as Zune, Zune has died. Its been replaced in part by Xbox Music. If you had a Zune Pass, it converted to an XBOX Music pass. You can check out the details over at Xbox.com/music.
WP8 does not use Zune to sync anymore. Its a convoluted method but there are multiple ways to get music over to your phone. They involve a new( but not better) content syncing app, and the Cloud.
In general, all your old content should play ok from Zune to Xbox and onto the phone. Some people have had problems and MS is looking into what resolution are available.
Phone updates are now handled OTA and do not require being plugged into an app....that we know of yet.
The general concept of Xbox music is ok. With Cloud based streaming, and availability across all devices, its a good idea. Implementation has been...less than awesome, yet. I've had very few problems with it...but some people have...
Anyway, in general, you shouldn't have a problem.
I see that online on the WP7 website, it shows my WP7 purchases - unfortunately, it doesn't load up all the apps that I have downloaded. Seems like it shows on the paid apps. I have a bunch of free apps and it would be a major pain to try and find them all and install them again on the new phone.
Anybody find a better way to do this?

Nokia Maps + Office 2013 coming to Android, then why WP8?

OK, First Microsoft said Office 2013 will come to Android, plus they already have skydrive , onenote etc.
I think why I liked WP8 was that it would have given me iOS like sync everything between my WP8 AND Windows 8.
But now its also possible with android.
And now Nokia has also said HERE maps will be available to Android also. And I've read that Nokia will offer OFFLINE MAPS to Android also.
The main reason to switch to lumia 920 for me and also to many people in world, is OFFICE support with SYNC with PC, and FULL OFFLINE MAPS FROM NOKIA.
But now both will be available to android in future, I don't see any good and strong reason to switch to WP8.
Do you?

Nokia Lumia 710 / Windows Phone 7.5/7.8 - Offline maps?

I bought a Lumia 710 as a travel phone to replace my aging Nokia C7. Now, the great thing about the C7 was that it had offline maps. I would simply download the map before travelling, and the map would be available in the foreign country. GPS and the compass would work as well. Oh, and address search worked too.
It was great, but, slow. The phone was essentially useless for anything other than maps.
So I sold it, and bought the Lumia 710 thinking it to be an upgrade. While playing with it in store, the rep showed me how Nokia Drive had a maps download option. I thought it would work the same way.
Unfortunately, if I have data and wifi disabled, Nokia Drive doesn't open - says it doesn't work offline (edit: updated it, now opens, doesn't seem nearly asgood as the old Nokia Maps on my C7. My original question still stands )
Now, I'm reading that Windows Phone 8 users will get Nokia Maps with offline functionality, but I cant find anything saying that this feature willl come to Windows Phone 7.5/7.8 users.
Can anyone shed some light on this? It really is the main reason I bought the phone.
You can try locations from htc collection. You can get it by changing marketplace to htc. Here's how to do it:

I can say for sure that Lumia 800 has Nokia Drive with the possiblility to use Maps in offline mode (this after I have updated to version 2).
Currently Nokia Maps in my phone has version 3.1.0.xx and Nokia Maps 2.5.xx.
I can use Nokia Drive in offline mode but can't use Nokia Maps in offline mode.
Try upgrading your software to latest version.
Hope this help.
Have a great day.

[Q] Windows App Store

Hi,
I'm expecting my Nokia Lumia 920 in the next couple of days and was wondering if apps purchased on the regular Windows App Store are available for download on the Windows Mobile App Store or whether I'd have to purchase them again.
I have windows 8 on both my Laptop and my Tablet and can buy on one platform and also download at no extra charge on the other, but can't find out if that is also the case for the mobile store.
Thanks in advance.
Vince
not 100% but i think as all your devices will be registered to your microsoft email account you can back them then restore to your phone no?
All your apps you bought on Windows 8 and Windows RT works on WP8, but remember, you'll only be able to download the app to your mobile phone if the developer made a mobile version of the original app.
