recieved 1.1.4 on nt update cant get zipfile for 1.4.0 to work - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

i followed intructions on how to get 1.4.1 to with sd card to flash back to 1.4.0 but no luck...it just starts as normal, i have done the power on off 8 times a few times redownloaded zip file...no idea....i did call barns and noble and complained they said version 1.4.2 is coming out next week to allow side loading once again, thanks in advance with anyone that can help with this problem

thats interesting. if 1.4.2 comes out and allows sideloading then you should be able to root if you get 1.4.2, unless something changes again. Anxious to find out!

the technical support lady from bn said she has had 100s of calls about this issue, ps thanks for that video on rooting worked awesome, i procrastinated on blocking updates...ill make sure that i do this next time around, really like adw

Are you asking how to install iOS on your Nook Tablet or how to get the Android Market on an iOS device?

waiting for update on 1.4.1 for nt (zipfile that works to put back 1.4.0) but also want to get android on the ipad but there arent any forums that i have found about the ipad2jailbreak with os5.0.1

Chances of getting Android on an iPad2 are just about nil. Completely different (and closed) hardware architecture - I don't see how anyone could get Android on it.

that sucks, i really like android, thanks for information

I've heard of people getting android on jailbroken ios devices, but this would be the wrong place to look for help with that. Ios is closed, but with android being open it is not unlike trying to develop a rom for an android device (like a Nook Tablet, for example).

SD card method fails after 1.4.1
Using the acclaim_update.zip method, after the initial screen it looks like the NT tries to start the factory restore procedure then errors out with this message:
"Please restart your device and try again."
I fear I am borked. Has anyone else seen this version of fail?

I am also unable to get adam's sd method to work. My device is at 1.4.1. i performed a factory reset and the factory reset shows 1.4.1! The method I performed for factory reset was to hold the power and home button repeat and release on the 9th time. It did show the factory reset screen with the yellow progress bar. Reran setup and it still showed 1.4.1. it didn't load 1.4.1 it is already set as the factory software level jnow since I got the update. I cant return this device as I dont have a reciept. So here I sit. i have not seen any updates from Adam.

i am going to try a different Micro SD card

let me know if it works!

This method works I video taped a walk through and I will post it. I installed 1.4.1 and reverted back to 1.4.0 without a hitch. Video soon
Update... by soon i mean like within the next 10 hours... it is a 50 minute video that I have to upload in HD... 4 gigs

No luck with aclaim_update.zip on 16GB PNY sd card
Hi All:
I am using 16 GB class 10 pny micro sdhc card. I was able to root
the system and get some apps sideloaded with rev 1.4.0 of the
software.
Then I got burned by the 1.4.1 update and tried the following methods to get
back to 1.4.0:
1) shut off nook (at 1.4.1) and pull the sd card. Insert card into laptop
copied zip file to root of drive. Put card back in nook tablet powered
on. FAIL system booted normally.
2) Formatted sd card in nook. Shut off nook. loaded zip file as in 1.
Powered on system. FAIL system booted normally.
3) formatted sd card on computer, installed zip file (and tested it) on the
sd card. Put card in nook, powred on. FAIL booted normally.
Then I tried all three after unregistering the nook.
Then I tried all three after hard resetting the nook (factory firmware
reload to 1.4.1).
I also attached the nook to the computer directory and put the zip file
at the root of the internal (MyNook E) drive (similar to the method for
manually installing 1.4.1 given on the barnes and noble site). As of now
it has not loaded.
No joy at all. Can people who have had this work tell me what cards they are
using. Maybe there is something there (maybe I need just a micro sd card and
not a micro sdhc card??)
Thank for any info people can provide. I would post the question to the
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402190 thread, but
I am not allowed to since I am a new user 8-(.

hc doesnt matter. format to fat32, then copy file alone to card. turn off tablet, insert card, turn on tablet. and watch the magic. Will show you on youtubechannel in 9 hours... when video finishes being processed by youtube...

Yup that's the procedure I did (in 3) using a 4096 block size for the card.
I am re-downloading the file now in case the verify I did was lying somehow
and the file wasn't valid. Since it's fat32, what settings for permissions
(read only, archive ...) did you have on the file.

Too bad this "update" effecively killed two POC projects I was doing for work

the difference between my situation and yours is I unroot and install patch 1.4.1 on a stock device and then remove it with the sdcard recovery. I wonder if something doesnt work right if it patches over a root? I cant verify this...

The first time I tried steps 1,2 and 3it was on a still rooted nook. So I
had my side loaded apps and could play streaming radio and access the
emergency response guide and ssh to other hosts.
But I also tried step 3 on an unregistered nook before finally
breaking down and doing a complete factory reset (hold down
power and N ...) and using step 3 on it.
So I claim we at this point have the same environment.
I wonder if it could be something with the boot roms? Maybe some roms
look for the zip and some don't? I don't know how to verify that though.
The model number on my nook is BNTV250 and there is an IC number of
8961A-BNTV250A I think. Kind of difficult to read it.

[Q] Nook tablet will Not Fully Unroot

I was able to successfully root my nook tablet. Though wished to try a different root program. I tried to uninstall the root normally but found my internet browser was disabled on my nook tablet. As well as my library setting I performed the factory reset to try to fix the problem but I am unable to completely restore my nook tablet. I am unable to download the unrooting program over the internet because the browser and search is disabled.
Is there any way that I may be able to fix my nook with an SD card?
I would also like to know if I can enable usb-debugging other than using the browser on my nook since the browser has been disabled.
Make a wipe erase/deregister your device and use the magic card method by AdamOutler to restore stock, that will put your NT like out-of-the-box.
Sent from XDA using one of my Android Toys
Do you know if there is any packetuninstaller program for the sd card that I can use to unroot my nook tablet?
I would like to reinstall the market once I fix my browser and library issue not having access to either on my tablet kinda sucks http://media.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
erase/deregister does not remove the android market or the ota block. After resetting device I still have do not have it as an out-of-the-box nook tablet. The browser is still non functional and the library will not work. The only way I can access the internet browser is by clicking on forgot password via the netflix app.
Any other methods do unroot and fully reset device???
Use the convert to 1.4.0 SD option. There is plenty on the boards, you just have to search for the answer. Check out the Noob thread too.
I have now parsed root file used on my nook tablet to allow full access of google launcher and apps. I have rooted access to browser now. Sd card options have not succeded in doing anything but reboot device to 1.4.0 which it is currently on. With removal of root or functionality of the library, shop, or normal search. I would like to regain the functionality of these functions or fully restore my device. I have read through the forums an have not yet reached a solution.
I was wondering if its possible to achieve stock functionality? I am new to the nook tablet. Though I have rooted and unrooted other devices without problems just trying to find a simple restore method that works. All help is greatly appreciated
Sounds like your NT internal files may be corrupt. It's the reason why I'm recommending you root via SD versus internal memory back to 1.4.0. Then run Indirect's unroot app and then try to reinstall Indirect's image. I had to do so because my NT wouldn't charge while on...computers (no matter the size of them or maker) can act quirky and it sometimes takes a couple of reinstalls to get it working the way it should be....nature of the beast.

Heres how I restore my NookTablet to the way it was when I got it (no root/mods)
1. Erase and Deregister
2. Turn off Nook once the erasing is complete
3. Copy acclaim_update.zip to the root of a microsd
4. Turn the nook on, which will start the downgrade/Factory Reset
5. Done, now the Nook is 100% root free.
This method removes all root traces/apps. Then I re-root (which will not work if the NT is already rooted). I'm new to Android in general but I have been an iOS user for 4 years. This is the same as doing a DFU restore.
Ok Let me list what I have tried.. After failed root.
1. Erased/Deregistered device
After boot-up no browser no library no shop
All functions are blocked OS after Erase 1.4.0
2. Erase/Deregister then installed acclaim_update.zip to the root of an sd card
This did nothing....
device is still on 1.4.0 with no browser or normal settings.
3. Reset via Power home button reset worked.
Device rebooted but still all settings the same I believe somehow
OTA block has not been removed. As should have been.
There is still block on factory browser search and library functions.
4. Tried to re-root and sideload super user app unable to fully install root.
Error root is not installed on device software version is still 1.4.0
5. Erase/Deregister again! Let boot normally Searched again through Xda Website for more information on this matter still unable to revert to factory.
I wonder if there is a way to force to 1.4.1. to fully break root functions and revert back to factory and reinstall new root file. I would like to get back unblocked functions of nook library and browser.
Also as a side note the nook seems to be perma downgraded. By some sort of block even after erase/deregister I need to remove whatever is blocking this so I can revert to stock and reinstall the new root.

I'm a noob but I'm pretty sure
Erase/Deregister = clears the /app folder for market and nook store apps and any user files (not system)
Acclaim.zip= completely clears the device. Including the /System/app folder (where the browser resides). And when that's done it recopies the original apps. Which is why if you debloat the NT, a acclaim update/restore restores the files. I can confirm this worked for me since I debloated once and this restored the deleted apps
So unless you didn't do all the steps you must have messed up a critical file that controls the restore process. But I don't think that's possible with current rooting tools.
NOOK TABLET? Unrooted?
I sucessfully backdated my nook tablet to software version, 1.4 and rooted device- however after putting on software version 1.4, I was unable to register device. I skipped the registration video and rooted no problem... wasn't happy with the rooted nook tablet like I was with my rooted nook color.
I wanted to unroot and restore to factory defaults. I sucessfully unrooted my nook tablet and restored to new software 1.4.1. However, when I go to register device, I recieve the same error message I have been getting this whole time with E-AD1202 in bottom left of screen.
Can someone please help?? Thanks so much!
If you have just unrooted your device I would try to Reset your nook tablet.
Hold the power and home key together when powered off then release once in boot screen repeat process in initial boot screen until reset pops up on your screen and follow instructions to reset your nook.

The only reason you can't register would be if you weren't back to stock. Do the factory restore, NOT data reset, again to get back to stock.

Few questions...Nook tablet 1.4.1 forced on a rooted 1.4.0 tablet

So i rooted my wife's tablet when 1.4.0 was on it. everything was working great....until 1.4.1 was pushed. The android market app, android email app and android clock app no longer open. Ive been searching for a solution and i think i may have found one without having to revert back to 1.4.0 and start all over again. If i understand this correctly, all i need to do is this:
Sideload the ADB root hijack.apk file
Follow the Indirect's ADB Root Hijack APP, Allows Root PATCH and Reentry of Root Script video
And i think thats it. Am i missing a step? Also, for what its worth, When i try running the new NThidden app and try to run the unknown sources script, i get a force close everytime. Does this mean that something isnt right with my root? Sorry if im not making some sense...pretty new to this rooting stuff. Thanks in advance.
Honestly, as someone who half knows what I am talking about, I think your best bet is to back everything up, factory reset, and then use the latest and greatest auto root program. This will have the addecd benifit of you never have to worry about it auto updating again!
Everything I have read says 1.4.1 was put in place by people who hate you and want you to be poor. =p

It's not that they want you to be poor; they just want the money that you have to be theirs. They wouldn't begrudge you new money -- as long as you spend it on their services.
This is just me but I would factory reset and follow indirects method with alberts youtube vids..I know people have 1.4.1 going but Im sticking with 1.4.0 until I really need to update. Then watch alberts vids on how to block Over The Air updates and then you wont have to worry bout her tablet getting a forced update.
I'm having the same problem as GMcD.
AFAIK, I used the latest root script that should have blocked the OTA updates. Before I restore to factory and try rooting again, can anyone suggest how I can make sure that the OTAs are disabled again?
Is there any way to verify that the OTA updates have been disabled?
Thanks in advance!
PS much thanks to Indirect and Albert! Great work guys!
go to your settings then device info--> about your NOOK--> Software version should be 9.9.9 if not then it's not blocking OTA's
Frustrated...
Okay, I must be missing something and have hit the point of total frustration I have, I think, a fair amount of experience with rooting (DroidX, GalaxyS, GX2, Axtrix2 and NookColor with NF and HL+ running before they were allowed) so can only guess it's something silly or simple I am overlooking...
I bought my (3) kids NTs for Christmas since I own a fully rooted NC and saw the potential of the device for the price AFTER it was rooted. After they opened and registered them, I jumped online, D/L'd Indirect's scripts (YOU ROCK DUDE!) and had them rooted and on their way in an hour. 5 days later, the stupid 1.4.1 update hits (I was one of those who thought the root alone blocked the OTA) and jacked up all 3 devices.
I have tried EVERY post, hint and tip I can find here to get 1.4.0 back on these devices without success. Things I done:
- Factory reset MULTIPLE times (turning on wifi ONLY long enough to get past the registration screen)
- Downloaded the acclaim_update.zip file multiple times from multiple sites (latest one yesterday afternoon from Indirect's post). I have left it zipped, not changed the name and put it on the root partition of the card.
- Tried 3 different SD cards (all 2GB and have been used for rooting all my other devices without any issues), formatted from the PC and formatted from the NT
No matter what I seem to do, I can't get back to base 1.4.0. FR reverts back to stock 1.4.1 after reset and when I try to boot to the SD cards, the screen flashes a second like it's going to then just errors out saying try again or contact support. I "think" I have followed every post or trick to the letter, but can't get anywhere...
Anyone else seeing this problem or do I just have three jacked up tablets? Am I missing something?
I had just gotten mine rooted (using Indirect method), when I got hit with the update. Luckily I had a titanium backup. Here's what I did:
Restored 1.40 with sd card (did not even move my data, just copied the card to computer just in case it got wiped)
Rooted using updated Indirect method (smoother and easier than 1st time and set version to 9.9.9.
Then restored apps & data from backup (still on sd card)
Only trouble I had was with the drivers (I had to load a program to delete the drivers-don't recall the name but it's in Indirect's troubleshooting drivers thread)
Whole process was a pain but still only took a couple of hours.
Mike
I forgot one step in between the restoring and the rooting:
When I restored to 1.40 my n button wouldn't work so I had to erase and deregister the device (in settings under device info)
Then when I was able to connect I had to register again (no big deal)
Good luck,
Mike

I am having the same issue. I have tried to dl, re-dl everything possible to get mine to go to a 1.4.0. i just received mine as a gift and tbh i dislike how you have to purchase every little thing on it. SOOOOOOO what can I do to get it to a 1.4.0. I can follow instuctions and just need to warm up on this new technology hehe.. Oh another thing, as im going by albert wertz video, i cant help but to notice that his NT starts at 9.9.9? If I can get mine to go to a 9.9.9 and then restarting from there, I can do that as well. PLZ HELP
my question is, TiBu needs root. Now mine becomes 1.4.1 and TiBu is not working. How can I back up my stuff before reverting it back to 1.4.0?
Unfortunately, you can't. I bit the bullet today and did the 1.4.0 restore, re-root and OTA block. I've had to re-download all my apps and lost any saved game data but it is worth it to me.
I had restored my son's NT and realized how much nicer it is to have a rooted device that didn't require adb commands for installing apps. The entire process took me about 45 minutes with about a third of the time waiting for large app downloads (Madden 12).

PSA: Nook Tablet 8GB and 1.4.2

Alright, first of all, before you all freak out thinking that we can't root 1.4.2 or even gain access to the 8gb iteration of the nook, Fattire and I have talked and it looks like there is no real changes in uboot meaning that in theory, it can still be broken into with bauwks' uboot.
What does this mean?
Well, until someone creates an image and tests it, we won't know. But don't go assuming that it's unhackable. Also, I'm certainly not going to do it and neither is fattire since we don't want to have to purchase the 8gb nook tablet since it's basically a kindle fire and that's not ok. They should have stuck with the 16gb edition of the nook. Anyway, if you poor saps are willing to just buy the 8gb nook, I say wait until people can verify the image. I however, will not be giving B&N any more money at all.
So, what have we learned?
Don't assume things are unhackable. If they are slightly different, the exact same files won't work. We need to wait for new images for the 8gb version of the nook tablet to be hackable.
1.4.2 is still completely hackable using the sdcard method we have right now to root. It literally will work on every version.
EDIT: DO NOT FLASH 1.4.0 to an 8gb nook tablet. If you do, you're **** out of luck and need to go to B&N. Don't pm me asking for help.
Here were my thoughts, FWIW. It needs a real test tho.

I think the issue is not the locking, but running a bootloader configured to load the kernel & ramdisk into 1GB of RAM, onto a device with only 512MB of RAM.

Yes but if the device wasn't locked, and we could get people to pay attention to the fact that 1.4.2 is just as rootable as 1.4.0 and just as easy we wouldn't have people thinking that 1.4.0 is the only way to root ever. Which would stop them from trying to flash acclaim update to their 8GB devices. Well... at least one can hope.
How's this for a slap in the face... I'm 82% sure that the bootloader on my brand spankin' new 16gb is locked differently. I've tried 4 different root methods and can't get the tablet to boot off of an SD card.

This is just a thought, but it might work. I had a problem getting my NT to boot off of a used sd card. Even after reformatting you would think it would work, but in my case it didn't. I went out and bought a fresh sd card and it worked. It's worth a try, unless, off course, you have already tried a new card.

More like 3, a 16gb and two 4gb.
Have you tried turning the NT off and then turning it on by plugging in the charging cable? With the SD inserted of course.
So it seems they are making some behind the scenes changes to block things?

Also, I'm certainly not going to do it and neither is fattire since we don't want to have to purchase the 8gb nook tablet since it's basically a kindle fire and that's not ok.

Well, I bought an 8GB version 2 days ago without knowing they halved the memory. Just came back from the States as I live in Belgium, so I can't return it and just have to live with it. If there's anything I can do to help/test, let me know!

NT 8Gb + CWM-based recovery v5.5.0.4 - Backup fail
Hi.
how to make Backup in NT 8Gb + CWM-based recovery v5.5.0.4
the process of freezing as a video:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546627
can someone has the correct CWM?
I'll try and get an 8gb recovery up. ._.

Thanks Indirect,
A CWM Recovery Tool for the 8Gb Nook Tablet would be awesome.
I'm in Australia and stupidly picked the 8Gb version not realising that it's 512Mb of RAM would be such an issue. And being over here I can't swap it.
So far I've:
- Successfully rooted it using jichuan89's great boot image (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529553)
- Installed "NT Hidden Settings" from the Android Marketplace and allowed unverified application installs.
- Tried installing the CWM Recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630) but received errors when installing ("Unable to install: This application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and the "Unarchive" the application to try again" for App Installer and "Parse Error: There is a problem parsing the package" for Package Installer.
I'd really love to load CM7 but at the moment my big stumbling block is backing up the stock ROM using CWM.
Cheers

From what I remember if you try to install an app with app installer first it won't work with package installer after that. You might try redownloading and try package installer first.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Weirdly enough, turning it on an off and re-downloading the "Nook Recovery Flasher.apk" allowed me to install using Package Installer.
Now:
- I installed the CWM Nook Recovery Flasher and ran the install option
- Pressed the reboot button
- Now my 8Gb NT tries to start, shows the brown box for a few second and then the box starts "jumping" or flickering and the device hangs.
So far the only thing I've been able to do to get it working at all is to run CM7 from an SD card (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826)
Is there any way yet to restore an 8Gb NT? (and yes, now I know that I'm an idiot for getting an 8Gb version but I'm in Australia, so returning it isn't an easy option).
Thanks
Chris

I have just finished rebuilding all of cwm from source. So I think this build has all the changes required for the 8GB versions
The current version is SDcard only but can easily be converted to run internally too.
Please test and give feedback

Would be better if you create a thread in development section for this specific recovery for 8GB NT model, so users go straight to use yours instead of try @indirect app or pushing the old normal recovery with adb tool.

Awesome! The next time that I see my mom I will have to have one of these ready and flash her main device back to stock. If she likes it, then I'll put it on permanently.

Just wanted to stop and say 'Thanks Albert!' for taking the time to do the video and list out all the steps. I had a few hiccups along the way but like with anything in life, persistence paid off.
My specific issues were not realizing the actual theory of what was going on here. I had to download the google apps .zip file extra and boot back into CWM to install it. I didn't understand that part at first. I wasn't prepared to actually keep an extra sd on hand for the occasional install/backup but I had a 2gb sitting around which worked out perfectly.
Again, thanks and all is working good as of right now! I also missed the part, if it was in the video and I passed over it, about installing the Nook Recovery.apk to install CWM. I blame lack of sleep.
if you added the sideloadable app packet, in there is an app called recovery flasher. this app allows you to install CWM on the tablet itself
I need to figure this out or I'm going back to BN stock firmware. This seems like the best option before i go back stock.
I wanna say I figured it out and you helped me in the other thread. I love the one you have background says tabletroms. Only issue as of now is when you bootup i get an error. The application Nook Unroot (process com.indirect.nook.unroot) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Not sure what thats about though.

I also tried without the cable using the power + n button and no matter how long I hold them, nothing happens. If I take the SD card out, it boots as normal.
I am also running 1.4.2. I just purchased the Nook yesterday. Could that have something to do with it?
I have gone through the entire process of making the R3 card twice and I get the same result. The nook will not boot up with this SD card in it.
is this an 8gb or 16gb nook tablet? it will not work on the 8gb
Mr. Wertz,
Please allow me a few moments to sing your praises (and those for everyone else involved in the creation of your wonderful 3R SD card!!)
I have no programming skills to speak of. Originally rooting my 16gb v.1.4.1 Nook Tablet was a long and tedious process using ADB, and drivers, and my computer, and several different files...
However, I eventually got it done, installed TB-Pro, homecatcher, Go-Launcher, and aproximately 177 other apps, books, and games... I was happy and content.
THEN Evil B&N pushed 1.4.2, killed my root and basically made my tablet non-functional (at least in the ways I was using it!) Lucky thing I had a recent TB backup of all the apps, but no way to restore them...
While searching XDA for a 1.4.2 root I came across your 3R SD card post... My time and frustration were worth more to me than the very modest price you were quoting, so I took that leap of faith and purchased the 3R along with an extra blank card...
Imagine my surprise to find the envelope laying on my doorstep the next morning when I returned home from breakfast with my wife!!! Your later email explained that you just happened to be in town on vacation, and had hand delivered it to my door! It being St. Paddy's day, I felt like I'd caught me a Leprechaun!
I watched your 3R instructional video at least 3 times, and read all the 3R related posts here and on TR Forums then Monday I rooted it, and then restored it back to out of the box factory condition! Following along with your video as I went it was easy as pie and worked flawlessly 1st time without a hitch!!
Tuesday I took it back to B&N and had them repartition it to give me 8gb of the 16gb internal storage! (Ye-Haw!!)
They had to look up the process in their manuals because that store had never done it before! LOL!! It took them longer to repartition the storage than all the time I spent Monday and today using your card and customizing it just the way I wanted it.
I had never bought apps from the B&N store, only books, so this morning (again following along with your video) I Put my trusty 3R back in and installed CM7 rooted, CWM (OTA now Fully Blocked) verified v.9.9.9 and got TB-pro back up and batch recovered all 179 apps, books, games, etc... I also downloaded the Android readers for both the Nook and the Kindle so I lost nothing and have a better tablet than ever before!!!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for making what looked like a probable nightmare into an easy and FUN experience!
Now if you only had a magic SD Card that would push a fully rooted ICS Kernel and Rom into my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S Captivate... LOL!
Many Regards!

R3 Card in my situation
Hi Albert
RESOLVED!! Got N 4.6 root installed! Moving on to R3 card...but, take a look at my post on N 4.6 root thread, problems with supplemental apparently download. One question...all seems to be working (root confirmed using S EXPLORER, BUT device still reads BN 1.4.2 installed. Afraid of OTA but will probably upgrade to CM7 before one hits, I hope. Is this correct?
Thanks Albert
NEVER MIND BELOW.
So, I never got around to installing CM7 as we discussed in PM. I was still running your N4.5 root when HBOgo updated their app and I lost that application. Being the moron I am at times, I did not realize this was the cause, and thought somehow I had lost my root in backing up my SD card to my computer a day prior. So, I took my trusty CWM/N4.5 root card I had saved out and attempted to go back to factory install and reroot, assuming I could get my HBOgo back and then later install CM7 on an SD card as I had wanted. Oh well, I did that and even remembered to block OTA updates in NT Hidden Settings, but alas HBOgo was not working. Finally I realized my mistake...all I should have done was taken a back up of the earlier HBOgo app and replace the nasty update! Too little too late. So, I must have made a mistake in reinnstalling the root because I now have a tablet reflecting I'm running BN 1.4.2. I still have access to both the amazon and google play stores but having trouble downloading new apps from google play. AND, every time I try to run HBOgo I have to go back into Settings and clear a cache etc. So, i've borked the whole thing!
So, I've read through the site and discovered your R3 post and thought perhaps this is my best solution! (I am less enamoured with having the SD version of CM7 now that you have created this nifty little R3 card!).
My question is, can I go directly from where I am (BN 1.4.2) with some weird half rooted ?? version of N4.5 to CM7 using your R3 card? My concern is not the 1.4.2 as your video shows this isn't a problem. It is that I was rooting using the N4.5 rather than the N4.6 which you reference in the R3 tutorial?
I think this is the best plan but am hesitant to go for it. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Lisa
Disregard last post
Needed to download update to NT hidden settings to get OTA block and unauthorized apparently...just in case someone else runs into this.....not sure if NT app is old on zip or if my TB reinstalled old app version but there you have it.
Loving root with BN access....may just keep instead of CM7. As always thanks Albert.

You can build a bootable CM9 and/or CM10 SDcard (but it's not a R3 card with CM9/10) using the instruction and files posted here and here.
My 16g has a corrupted partition table. I've tried every other repair/recovery method without any success. Does this recovery repartition as well?
Thanks for what you do.

[Q] Rooted Nook recently unable to download apps

Hi, y'all. So I rooted my Nook Tablet awhile ago...I bought it in November 2011, I think, and I rooted it shortly thereafter using Indirect's method. It has been working great until the last 3 days. I am able to download books, but when I try and download apps (even from the B&N appstore), they always fail. I have gotten the following two messages. I tried googling solutions, but I only came across others with the same problem suggesting that you update to 1.4.3, which I will obviously not be doing since I will lose the functionality. Here are the errors:
Sorry! The application DeviceManagerService (process com.bn.devicemanager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then there's a button to force close.
The second is: Sorry! The application DownloadAdmin (process com.bn.nook.dadmin) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. There's a button after that to force close.
Also, when the downloads fail it says it is because I may not have enough space for them, but there are like 10 gb left, so not sure what the problem is.
Anyone else experiencing this? I tried reinstalling the .apk files from Titanium Backup but it didn't help. Thanks!

FWIW I've run into this "not enough space" type of error when I downloaded those apps that expect to store their data on the external SDcard while I didn't have a card in the SDcard slot.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have a 32 gb SD card inserted, so that can't be the problem, either. That's why this is so frustrating!
Great. Now when I just restarted it, it is showing that it is back to software version 1.4.0 from 9.9.9. All I did was reinstall the devicemanager and download admin files; would this have somehow unrooted it?
Well, if root has been broken, can't you just root it again?
And if root is broken, you can also update to 1.4.3 before re-rooting, should you want to.

Yes, I can re-root it, it's just a time consuming process with my ancient PC.
If I update it to 1.4.3, won't that block the ability to root it?
Nope, 1.4.3 roots fine with both Brian's and Albert's sd-card methods. (And probably any others as well, but those are the ones I have tried.)
Surely it can't be that time consuming, regardless of the age of your PC? Albert's card is under 100MB to download and then burn to SD. (Brian's is bigger.)

Are there any benefits to updating it to 1.4.3 if I plan to root again?
If you are running stock there were some bug fixes in the updated firmwares. Personally I would not run stock below 1.4.2.
If you plan to run for example CM10 the firmware doesn't matter.

Thanks! Good to know about the firmware not mattering. Sounds like updating the software and then redoing the root is the way to go, even though it took forever last time.
How can I revert to 1.4.0 and start factory fresh with my NT?
Ok, please bear with me. I'm a noob, so don't know all the technical lingo for this stuff, so I hope what I'm saying will make sense. I was able to update to 1.4.3, but that took away the ability to use the Nook Color App Manager, which I love, because it kept all the apps on the Nook's stock screen, instead of having to switch to a different screen. I would like to try and remove 1.4.3 and go back to 1.4.0 (I also liked the ability to still have access to the in-store experience, and I haven't been to a B&N to see if that is still available with this root version). I tried using the process from Adam Outler to revert to 1.4.0, but it didn't work, and is still showing it is version 1.4.3, so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there a way to just remove 1.4.3? Somehow, when I ran the process to revert to 1.4.0, it reset my device like it should have, but it still seems to be rooted without the root ability (all the apps I have downloaded from Google Play are showing they are installed, but I can't access them from my NT and can't reinstall them). I'm guessing I need to re-root (I have down it twice, but then undone it trying to get back to 1.4.0). So...long story short, I think I'd just like to run whatever needs to be run to take my NT back to factory settings when it was first released in 2011 with 1.4.0. I have been searching for that, but just seem to find the same things I have tried. Can anyone please help with this? Thanks!
This is the thread I have followed most recently about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35089620
The repart.img that is mentioned here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663836 will take you back to out of the box stock 1.4.0
You will loose everything you will to root again if you run it.
Great, thanks! Sounds like it is just what I was looking for.

For some reason, it took it back to 1.4.2 rather than 1.4.0, but I'm guessing that 1.4.0 may no longer be available? At any rate, I got it re-rooted and it was still having the problems, so I just went ahead and re-updated to 1.4.3 and re-rooted, so thanks for your help!
Well, 1.4.2 is better than 1.4.0 anyway, so no problem there I guess!

Did going to 1.4.3 and rerooting solve your problem? My Mother's NT is running a rooted 1.4.2 which I did ages ago, but recently on boot the BN downloader (or something to that effect) crashes and she can't download any BN apps because of it. She's also getting the out of space error you described.
I'm trying to convince her to switch to CM10.1 (which I did to my tablet not so long ago), but she refuses to do so until I can prove to her it's stable (personally I think the official RC is way more stable than the hodge podge that is the Nook OS any day, but she doesn't believe me since she's heard me complaining of the battery draining recently.) Either way I'd love to get her up and going again so she can go back to using it.

Yes! It sounds like she was getting the same errors I was getting, and it fixed the problem when I took it to 1.4.3. I just miss the nook color app manager that would allow stuff from the non-B&N market to appear on my home screen, but I've gotten used to the two home screens now, and it seems to work faster than before. One thing I will mention is that the above method asawi mentioned with the repart image frees up additional space on the nook. I think it must have re-partitioned it as part of installation (hence the name). Whereas before I had 11 gb for B&N storage and only 1 for "other" storage, after I did that update, it changed it so it was about 8 gb for B&N and 5 gb for "other." I liked that, as I don't have all that much stuff from B&N on my nook, but have more than 1 gb of other stuff, but your Mom may want to know how it affects her B&N storage.

If you're looking for a stable version of CM10, Succulent's CM10.0 dated 12/31 http://iamafanof.wordpress.com/2012/11/03/cm10-0-jelly-bean-for-nook-tablet-uploading/ is very stable and its battery-consumption is not noticeably different than that of stock ROM.
