TNEF/winmail.dat viewer/parser for Android? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, first a huge THANK YOU to all the developers and contributors! A wealth of information here!!!
I have searched and searched and searched the net all over and can't find a solution (other than having people resend the email as plain text) to view certain emails with attachments from people sending via Outlook. I get the winmail.dat file. Yes, it seems there are many viewers available for all platforms other than Android. I am sure if someone made an app for viewing winmail.dat files on the Android OS that they would make a good amount of money
Even the iPhone/iPad has a viewer: (well, since I'm a noob, I can't post a link, but its on the iTunes App Store called Winmail File Viewer
I'm actually in the process of replacing my laptop with a Xoom tablet. I can do almost everything I could on the laptop, but this is one of those "argh" things and in my searches, I've found many people searching for a solution as well.
So, my questions are...
1- Is there something out there for Android to view winmail.dat and I just missed it?
2- Would someone be interested in making a solution?
Thank you for your time.

I have been unsuccessful myself to find such an app for Android so I decided to create one.

[Q] Application shortcut with command line parameters

Hi.
I always had windows mobile devices in the past, and like you must know, the old good windows mobile no longer exist... Microsoft killed it.
So I switched to Android. I really like android, The way it works is pretty the same than windows mobile with file browser, files system(Not like the Iphone without any way to deal with a file at all), .APK install like the .CAB on WM...
One think that I loved on WM is how easy it was to make shortcut by yourself, even with parameters. As example, it was easy to create a shortcut to Coreplayer to play an HTTP stream when simply clicking on it.
Like: "coreplayer.exe my_teststreamDOTcom : portNumber"
I searched a lot over internet and forums all over there, and I can't see any solution like this on android.
I'm pretty sure that you can do it with some application like ANYCUT or BETTERCUT or also "MANUAL INTENT SHORTCUT" But I have not find any documentation or example to how to do this.
Any of you having the same problem or found a method to do this?
Thanks!!
Cedric

Apps in the Android store which might fit the bill: "tasker" and "script manager"

Click to collapse
Did those apps work?
It's been a few months since he asked, I doubt if he's checking the thread regularly. He's probably found some answer or workaround, since November. I posted the answer mostly because this thread will pop up in internet searches, and it will be able to help others find the answer quickly, too.
Good lookin out pimpin.

Request : Google googles modification

Can somebody modify the application google googles and instead of searching the web to search to the photos I had to a mobile folder.
For example in a folder in my mobile I have 1000 photos with some items , so when I take a photo to search for a similar photo in this local folder and not to the google’s database
I think that the comparison between the pictures is not done by your phone, but by the google servers. The goggles app just sends the picture to the servers, so what you want can't be easily done...
Yes propably you are right,
Do you know where can I upload the photos so the Google goggles will be able to find it
I see what you want to do, but this would be very difficult. You need your pictures uploaded somewhere, it is not important where, but then google has to index them and this takes time. Also, you need some other pages linking to yours, because this is how Google's pagerank algorithm works (this is a simplification, of course).
And in my experience, except for flat things, like pictures or books, Google Goggles response is not very good.
Probably your best option is to set up a computer with some image recognition software, and then start a web server on that computer where you can upload your pictures and get your response. You could use something like neuroph (http://neuroph.sourceforge.net/image_recognition.html) .
As you can imagine, this is not something that can be done in a day.
Maybe someone else can give you more ideas.
Good luck.
thanks for the information, finally is more difficult than my first thought

[Q] Why has AOSP corrupted my SMS/Mms .db? Works on AOSP not Samsung though?

I have tried the search button have anything relatively close nor the right type of people already commenting them...further to that those that are key with understanding in this area have "not contactable by PM or email" in their profiles
Anyway, it seems that searching via Google shows that I am not the only one that is suffering from a related issue??
http://techie-buzz.com/how-to/how-to-open-db-files.html
Here too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521248
Read comments here....and we all know .db files are not unique to android alone, however the being able (or should I say not able) to assess the .db file in anything but android IS!
I have been running CM9/Oncecosmic and several other iterations of AOSP ICS early January. I keep a nearly all of my SMS/ Mms, its habit and I like to be able to access the information should it be needed. I have gone from Samsung -> to AOSP -> and now "trying" to go back again.
I have since migrated to SGSII (from SGS1) and have realised that the Mms .db will only open in an AOSP apk? If I attempt to open the .db file in Samsung it force closes. I am have been forced to run a hacked ROM now as I want to be back on Samsung based ROM, so I have gone about hacking the services.jar to bypass signature checking of apks just in order to run an AOSP app so that I can access and continue to use my Mms.
I don't want to wipe and refuse to believe that this is the only answer and that these isn't some kind of fix for it?
If someone is able to shed any light on this subject and as to why the Mms is corrupt when only viewed in anything but AOSP apps and/or a fix to be able to make this .db work again inside of Samsung I will happily send a donation. I donate to a lot of people on this forum, and am very appreciate of developers time as well as of this community as a whole.
Thanks,
James

Surely someone out there understands the complexities of the Mms .db? I can't even view any content inside of it outside of Android its self. I am used to a PC and a keyboard and SQL DB and its just f*%#ed on a phone, not to mention totally different syntax to what I am used to. Does anyone know of any application that can view this data? Anything SQLite DB viewer on Source forge doesn’t work.
Jesus Freak where are you? I'm jokin, you probably get hit up about a million posts a day hense your set to not contactable. Anyone with as much knowledge that is willing to help feel free to respond.

[Q] Reader that marks visited links

Hi,
there is one use-case I still use my old Palm TX for as I cannot find any app for Android - can you help me?
Here is what I need:
I have a little perl-script that downloads a magazine every week. What I get is a table of contents (in html) and from there links to the individual articles (also html).
I now want to convert this into an ebook (I don't care about the format as long as I can create it myself) and I am looking for a reader that marks the visited links (i.e. the read articles) in the table of contents.
I currently convert it to plucker and the plucker-reader for Palm does exactly that.
Unfortunately there does still not seem to be any plucker-reader available for android (though some readers claim that they handle plucker I have not yet found one that actually works) and I cannot find any other reader for whatever format that marks visisted links.
Has anyone a suggestion?
Many thanks!
Got no reply 2 years ago and I am still searching...
Maybe someone with a suggestion this time?

Chat app for my page?

Hi guys,
I think this is a good place to ask this question as I checked you guys are so helpful. Well the thing is that I am starting out a page and I am looking for a chat application to use on my website.
I want to have offline messages I mean that I get messages also when I am offline, social media integration, mobile integration as I am often only on phone, I also want to track online visitors and it needs to be easy to use and I want the option to change the design a bit as well.
I tried quite many of them but didn't find the one yet. I am researching Chatnox right now, and we shall see how that goes.
Thanks!
