I bought the Motorola Photon 4G in the U.S. but I live in Brazil. In the first 10 days of use it worked perfectly, had battery life of 36 hours with moderate use. After you update it to last OTA, I do not know if it was coincidence, the battery does not last more than 4 hours without any use. Already reset to factory rom, I used several methods to calibrate the battery, I installed another rom and everything remains the same. The screen and battery get very hot when using the photon. I bought new batteries and charger and nothing changed. The interesting is that even disconnected the battery completely discharges within hours. I use the minimum screen brightness, WiFi, GPS, bluetooth and data are off. Right now I have only the factory-installed app, and yet the battery only lasts about 4 hours. The Photon is not sold in Brazil, therefore, have no guarantee nor an authorized service center for Motorola Photon. From what I see must be a hardware problem, does anyone know what might be happening? (Sorry for bad english)
To be honest, I'm lost here BUT your comment about the screen and photon getting very hot, the only time I experience that is tethering and thats my last 3 devices. This is usually caused by rapid battery drain.
Although I only tethered a few times, the battery was, more or less, programmed, even after I stopped. I ended up buying 3 new batteries. Cannot remember where, but they were under $10.00USD (CellPhoneShop.com)
I definitely recommend you make sure your not tethered.
But have you tried a wipe/SBF?
If an SBF doesnt fix it its probably hardware.
Thanks for your help. But I find it very strange the battery discharges even when the device is off. Telephone operators in Brazil use GSM only, so the phone may be trying to find CDMA signal, but do not know how to avoid this.
Previously had installed the SBF "SUN-198_7" and nothing had changed. Now I installed another SBF (SUN-154_5) and despite the battery lasted a little more, still has low life. I'll try another SBF or other roms to see what happens. Then do I comment the result here.
After the sbf to 154-5 does the battery still get hot? This sounds like a bad battery. I'd try replacing it...lest we read about you on engadget or gizmodo in one of those exploding cell phone battery stories.

After much searching, I discovered that the problem is hardware. I applied a SBF (SUN-198_6) to relock the bootloader and the root. I think it worked. I'll send for assistance technics, will they know that I unlock the bootloader and the root? Because if they find out, I lose the warranty.
I've had a major battery drain issue in the past which was due to a specific app that was just heating my phone up and somehow not jiving with the with the software (Widget Locker)... I disabled it and battery went back to normal. Also, since then the dev corrected the problem.
Did read several comments about the drop in battery life using the Widget Locker. However, in my case the battery is also drained with the device (Photon 4G) off. Even in Airplane mode the battery lasts a maximum of 5 hours without any use. I've tried everything, Factory Data Reset, other custom ROMS and even two other batteries, and nothing changed. I applied a SBF (SUN-198_6) to relock the bootloader and the root. I'll send for assistance technics, will they know that I unlock the bootloader and the root? Because if they find out, I lose the warranty. Will I have problems with this?
Also it sometimes helps to charge full and recalibrate the battery...good luck!
you might have overclocked your processor, try download setcpu and check bring it down to 1ghz, another problem might be dust inside the phone try taking out the battery and cleaning the inside of the photon with a dry paper towel

Hello all,
I purchased a Galaxy S2 at the end of July, I live in the US, so it was from Amazon. The phone has been phenomenal, an amazing piece of technology.
I rooted the phone and flashed Lite'ning Rom 6.1 XXKH3. Still worked great, with no problems at all.
However, starting about a week ago, I am getting an extremely fast battery drain. Since then, I have spent hours looking at threads trying to figure out what was going on. I updated the rom to UltraToxic Rom v8.0 XWKK5, still no change.
I used Titanium Backup to freeze many widgets and app processes, still no change. I am currently using better battery stats to monitor wake locks, however after managing the wake locks, still no change.
I then bought a replacement battery thinking that the battery may have been bad, sadly, there was no change.
I have been trying to find a solution to this and had tried many other suggestions in other threads to no avail. As of now I have come to the conclusion that the device might have some type of malfunction that is causing this.
Am I going crazy or am I missing something obvious? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Seeing the battery graph, you have your screen on a lot of time. Screen sucks battery a lot, so there might be one of the causes of battery draing.
Also you seem to have all day enabled 3G/WiFi, that also sucks some battery with it.
You can try JuiceDefender and see if it can help you extend a little your battery.

After flashing this kernel my worse battery life was 1day and 12h with 3.5h screen on and wifi 85% ON.

Lol.... It's obvious he has some kind of battery problem, he is not using the phone much, and galaxy S 2 should have at least 5-6 hours screen on time and the phone lasted 3 hours.

Since I had all data on the phone backed up, I did a factory reset. I also flashed the UltraToxic Rom v8.0 XWKK5 as well as the suggested SpeedMod Kernel. When the battery was at 100%, I calibrated the battery. I tried to leave the phone idle as much as possible, I did use the internet for about 10 minutes to check e-mail, news, etc. So now the phone is essentially "empty" in terms of apps downloaded, I got rid of all widgets on all home screens.
There was still no positive change, I do really like the SpeedMod Kernel though, I do notice faster responsiveness from the phone.
I am beginning to think that the problem may be the hardware and not the software or battery.
I've got similar problems here. I am suspecting a hardware problem (I damn well hope it isn't coz i got mine from hong kong) because my phone never goes into deep sleep mode for more than 50% while the screen is off. I've tried at least half a dozen different kernels and roms and nothing helps, this is even in airplane mode i.e. with pretty much everything turned off. I've tested wakelocks and dont get anything more than a couple of seconds. I had my battery charged to full at 6:30am this morning, went to work and got home and it was dead after just under 12 hours with being idle 75% of the time. This is worrying as most people's battery lasts at least a whole day.
So I know it can't be the kernel, I know it cant be wakelocks, I know it cant be wifi or 3g data or anything of that nature so the only thing it comes down to now is hardware...
Funnily enough I've had exactly the same issue since about a week ago. Even when I take it off charge it's almost immediately down to around 80%. It's lasting around 4-5 hours, even when I'm not using the phone much, plus it gets really hot.
A couple of times Social Hub has appeared high up on the list of battery draining apps, although I don't use it. It doesn't always show up though. I switched to the CF-Root kernel and started using GO Launcher EX recently and wondered if that (or one of it's addon widgets) could be the cause.
It's really bugging me now!
SOLVED!
After days and days of trying to fix the issue of the phone not sleeping (and therefore draining excess battery whilst idling) I have finally fixed it!!!!!
First i noticed that along with the sleep problems, I was getting the problems with car mode popping up randomly, the phone going into mtp connection mode, and thinking its charging when it was unplugged. After looking into these issues (and i thought it was a longshot) I decided to do what people were saying and CLEAN THE MICRO USB PORT.
Now you're probably thinking I am a crazy man, but now im just crazy happy that I don't have to send my phone back to Hong Kong!
Instructions:
1. Get a clean, dry, soft-bristled toothbrush.
2. Take any case you have off the phone.
3. Gently insert the bristles into the port and "flick" it out softly.
4. Repeat this about 10-15 times
No matter what ROM, what kernel, what modem i tried flashing, my phone was always sitting on no more than 50% deep sleep mode when idle and had no wakelocks or "rogue apps".
I am now getting 90% - 98% DEEP SLEEP MODE!
I obviously can't guarantee that it will work for everyone, heck how it solved the issue is a mystery to me, one which probably an electronically-minded/computer systems person could answer. What I can say though is I searched high and low online for about a week. I tried different kernels, I tried different ROMs, I tried "re-calibrating" the battery, I used BBS to check for partial wakelocks. If you too have tried all this and have had no success please PLEASE try this and see if you have success!!

TL;DR: If you're having battery drain problems clean the micro USB port with a soft toothbrush.
The phone never sleeps when charging, the CPU idles at 200 MHz, whatever was in your USB port was probably making contact with the pins that tells the phone it is connected to a charger when it actually is not, so it was idling at 200 MHz and was not receiving power, that's the only explanation I could fathom
Do two things:
Install CPU spy and show us what the deep sleep percentages are,
and try disabling wifi. Also, what is the router?
I have a battery drain issue; but its kind of screwey as i will reboot my phone and lose about 20% of the phones charge. If i turn it off and leave it off for an hour the charge comes back. Its random as well; only happens once a week. I have had this problem on different roms. You might have a similar problem to me. Possible the hardware that detects battery state is knackered.

I've read and read, searched and searched this forum and have not come across my exact problem yet...
I know there have been overheating issues, and I know there have been boot looping problems... all causing terrible battery life, mine has neither. Let me rephrase, my overheating issue is not due to me actually using the phone... On idle (with the screen off), my Rezound only lasts about 2 hours on a full battery. Granted, I live in an area where there isn't full service, but there is some service. I can watch as data is being exchanged with no apps running. What the hell is using data? I have a feeling this is what is killing my battery, the phone is not at all sleeping. I have deselected "always on data" and I turned off fast boot and auto sync.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
BTW, my phone is a bone stock refurb.

I can do that, but it doesn't really solve the problem. It just started doing this yesterday. I've had it over 2 months and haven't downloaded anything different. I would really rather just figure out what is causing it, so I don't have to do a factory reset every time something like this happens. You know? Try exchanging the battery first. Start small. Work your way up to the big stuff(exchanging the phone). Why give up the customizations you've done if you just have a bad battery?
I was thinking it may be a bad battery, but it concerns me that I can watch the data stay running even though I'm not using anything that requires it. My brother has a Rezound and I placed mine next to his and literally watched the battery life deplete 10% in 5 minutes while his lost no percentage at all, both were idle with the same screen settings. Is it common for a battery to fail that drastically out of nowhere?

If data is constantly being used, something HAS to be using your data. I'd get an app like better battery stats and CPU spy. CPU will show you if your phone is going into sleep mode at all and better battery stats can show you which apps may be causing it.
Do you have the 4G antenna on?
I have betterbatterystats, it shows android system at the top of processes. That program is a little difficult to understand since everything is abbreviated.
I appreciate all of your responses. I just got off the phone with Verizon, they're sending me another phone AND battery for good measure. During lunch today I watched the percentage of my battery deplete while it was plugged into the wall and not being used, used a different charger, nothing. It wasn't even hot. I turned the phone off to try to get it to charge. when I turned it back on, it got to the lockscreen and then restarted itself. Boot looping now. I'm not going to fool with it anymore. Maybe the third Rezound will be better.

I haven't changed anything from out of the box other than visual properties. I'm assuming the network has a little to do with it, but it started failing way too fast to be a radio problem IMO.
I received my 2nd Rezound last week. First one had the hiss/feedback/interference issue through the headphone jack that escalated to a level of to not being able to use the headphones at all without being painful. Anyway, the new one is running very hot (battery) and is draining the battery almost as fast as you're describing yours to do. I've used both the standard battery and extended. This morning while using it at home on wifi with most of my syncs either disabled or set at a min of 2 hrs it drained my extended battery by 20% in 20 mins. I wasn't even using the internet or streaming any music or video. I was working on setting up calender and task list widgets. Phone is stock, not rooted. I will be calling Verizon tonight to see about getting a 3rd one. Sucks as I really like this phone when it's working properly. If the 3rd one has issues to and HTC isn't rolling out any fixes for them I might have to look at something else. But I don't want to!
I feel like if I can get the hardware to cooperate with me, I can get the software to. I was planning on rooting after the ICS push, but the phone obviously had different plans.
Set your phone to CDMA only, especially if you don't live in an area with LTE coverage. You will see significant battery advantages from that alone.

I should have mentioned that I'd already done that (only 3G here anyway). I've done all the battery management tricks I've read about but this phone has an issue. I'm not even getting half the battery life out of it that I was on the 1st one. And the battery gets significantly hotter then the other phone.

Looks like some application is using up lots off battery. Try resetting your phone, install apps one by one.. If student you lose battery life that's the culprit.

It's not an app that's using up battery life, it's the "Android OS" itself. Uninstalling apps would have a small effect.
Though I do recommend a factory reset, it could be a setting that is using up all this battery.

I've seen something that really surprised me. I have two Razrs, nearly identically configured. One of them I turn off most of the week except when I need to tether. I charge it once a week.
I thought this was a fluke, but it's happening consistently since ICS:
It used to be when I charged the battery once a week, this phone was nearly completely charged and only took a minute or so to reach 100% charge.
Now under ICS, when I plug the phone in for charging once a week, the battery meter reads below 50% and takes a couple of hours to charge up to 100%.
What has changed with ICS?
Is there something still running when I turn the phone off now? It would seem to me that OFF should mean OFF.
Or, is the ICS battery meter more accurate? Or does the meter need to be reset to 0 somehow? I did do a factory reset after installing ICS.
Any shared wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

With those stats, there's nothing wrong with the battery. I've never seen the Android OS use more power than the display (doesn't make any sense why it should). There's something running intensely on your phone. The bloatware is considered part of the OS (motorola apps), try disabling some of them. Otherwise I'd suggest a factory reset/cache wipe but since you've already done that, try re-downloading the OTA and installing all over again

There is no applications installled on my phone.
It is just after factory reset.
Its one of the famous "Android OS" suspend bufg which makes the cpu not to go in deep sleep.I am facing the same problem right now but couldnt find a solution
I sent my phone to repair centre twice but my problem still is not fixed. Sometimes it works ok but sometimes battery lasts about 5 hours.
motorola staff ban me on motorola forum because I said that I’m disappointed their service.
I know one thing , never buy motorola again.

About a week and a half ago, my battery went from draining ten percent in a typical day (hour to an hour and a balf of constant use, browsing Facebook, web, email - if I really went ham I might go down in the 80s) to easily closing in on the 50s if not more.
I've tried several factory resets, gotten the lollipop upgrade that just hit, removed apps, upgraded apps - nothing. I'm on stock and haven't had this phone more than a month. Android System is typically the worst offender for battery usage according to the settings monitor.
Please help. I was so impressed and now I'm at a loss.
If you've done factory resets, then I would say, factory reset again and stay on stock apps. Don't install anything else. Monitor what happens with your battery life. My guess is, if you have installed other apps since doing the factory reset, it's an app that is misbehaving, even though you see android system being the main culprit. More than likely, it could be an app that isn't releasing resources correctly or hasn't been updated to run correctly with LP. That usually points to a sign of improper programming, or they haven't update their app yet to perform correctly under LP.
If things are running fine on stock, start adding your apps back one by one. Install one app, leave it for a few days and see what happens. if battery life stays the same, then move onto the next app. Hopefully, you'll find the app that's giving you issues.
If even with just stock apps you are having the issue, then it might be a hardware issue, possibly even battery. But, if it's been working fine before the LP update, I highly doubt that. My best guess is it's a misbehaving app.
I'm still having problems with nothing else but stock apps, unfortunately. The problem started shortly before the update - does that support that it's more hardware or more software related? The phone is still fairly new and though I know that doesn't rule out a bad battery, still kinda hoping I don't have to deal with Verizon and getting a replacement.
Talked to Verizon, they said "we checked, battery's fine." So... guess its not the battery? They said it "could take a month to normalize after the update."
I would buy a replacement battery and install it, see if that helps. They are cheap and it's good to have one anyway. The Ankers come in a 2-pack with a nice universal wall charger.
Verizon is not even bothering to check really, are they ? Did they even loan you a replacement to prove to you it's not a bad battery ? Doubt it. Do it yourself.
It really sounds like you are having excessive battery drain due to a wakelock problem like with Google's update service. Check around here for threads about how to diagnose and mitigate that.

I didn't expect Verizon to help, but they definitely impressed with just how little they offered. I'm spending today with Wi-Fi and 4G off, unless browsing, for which I turn the latter on. In my half hour lunch I've noticed much, much better battery usage. Thoughts?
Edit: change of location seems to drain it quicker (school vs McDonalds parking lot - former worse than the latter). Signal was three bars in each, though.
I've looked a bit ino wakelocks but will read up on it more tonight. Problem I've found is how many detectors require root access, and I'm not real interested in rooting.
I just got my G3 last night and rooted it and did a few things to minimize battery drain and today, after almost 12 hours of light to moderate use my battery is still sitting at 81%.
Pretty sure there's a memory leak on stock vs985 lollipop... Or at least from what I had read and experienced
Hey guys! I want some advice to check if this problem is normal or maybe its a manufacturer defect.
Anyway, I bought this phone about 5 days ago, and in the time I've been using it, my battery lasts about 7 or 6 hours (also it takes like 5 hours to fully charge it, which makes it worse). I thought it was because the stock ROM isn't very optimized, but later I started using cm 12.1 and it seems to last almost the same. Also, I started using an app called "current widget" that checks continuosly some info like the mA that is using at the moment, and I found that when I use it, it's mA is between 500 and 600, and sometimes it's like 180. Is this normal?
I'm worried because I've read in reviews that the battery of this phone lasts about a day and half and mine barely lasts 7 hours. Please, help...
Mine will last for 2-3 days if left alone. I'd download an app or CPU monitor to see what's running and draining the battery.
I repaired it already ^^ I just flashed official firmware again and no more battery draining and heating.
Battery draining could be many things but usually comes down to rogue processes.
Since android is java based over C, it becomes a garbage collector. Be sure to clean your device frequently to avoid internal confusion.
If a simple cleanup doesn't work, you can try to remove processes from loading at boot.
I honestly think that a reflash of your ROM is a bit extreme for a battery draining problem. I would try to exhaust every other avenue first.
I know, but I even tried disabling apps and it stayed like that. Also I flashed other roms and the problem didn't stop. I was going to claim my warranty and that's why I flashed everything again and somehow that solved it. I suppose my carrier modified the software somehow and that's why my phone had that problem.
Put your phone in airplane mode when you aren't using it. See if the battery drain persists. How is your signal? If your phone has a low signal, it will actually boost its radiation to try and keep the signal or establish a stronger one. This only is a battery killer and an issue that cannot be fixed by any software/firmware update that I've ever heard of.
If what I suggest seems to be true, airplane mode will be your friend. Or at least turn off data while not using it.
