Swype Keyboard Comes Stock! (Sorta) - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

I have seen some people ask about the Swype keyboard and I would just like to point out that the Asus keyboard that comes on the prime actually has this option embedded in the software already.
1. Go to input options under settings and make sure that the Asus keyboard (not Android) is selected.
2. Then, under the keyboard settings option, choose trace route and the stock keyboard will function as the swype keyboard does.
This keyboard is not as good as swype in my opinion, but it is cool that Asus gave it a shot.
I also apologize if this is in the wrong place for this thread, or if this topic has already been discussed.
Jason

Yeah I noticed that also. stock keyboards still blow though. I'm using slideIt keyboard. Its better than swipe. very fast and easy to use especially if you put it in portrait mode. although I have big hands, I can slide faster in portrait mode. it can work by sliding or regular mode. landscape or portrait mode is good. I've been hearing a lot about that thumb keyboard also. I might try it out soon.

Bad Stock Keyboards
Yes, that is the first thing I noticed was the bad keyboards available stock. They do have a swype type option that works ok but still not very good. None of the keyboard have the push and hold type keys for special characters which is a real pain.
I really want a keyboard with cursor arrows on the primary screen. Isn't everyone annoyed when thay have to make a correction and have to try to tap the screen to move the cursor back to just where you need it????????
Any other suggestions on good keyboard options out there?

Thumb keyboard is the best imo.

^ +1 thumb keyboard has been the best and i tried it all

The new swype beta is awesome on a tablet. It's an open beta, just sign up and download it. Many new features as well as new dragon voice recognition by Nuance. Alternatively, SwiftKey x tablet is awesome as well, you can split the keyboard like thumb keyboard as well, and has the best predictions I've seen on any keyboard.

Agreed it is the best imo.

I will have to check it out. Never really thought about changing the keyboard until now. I am sure it could make a big difference.

Swype

Just started using Swype. The standard keyboard is OK, and way more responsive than my old HTC Touch HD. But man Swype is good. Can type messages and emails much faster than I normally can manage.
Just thought I'd mention it in case nobody has seen/heard of it.
Can find out more here - http://www.swype.com
Cheers

It really is the dogs cogs isn't it! I started off using SlideIT before they released Swype Beta.. didn't like swype at first.. but now I know how to use it.. I couldn't live without it!.. I was using it for ages before I realised that you can swype from the swype key to the "sym" key to bring up the direction and text editing keys...
Didn't know that about the text editing and direction keys. Cheers!

1GHz CPU, Android, capacitive screen vs 528MHz, WinMo6 and a resistive screen - no contest
Swype's pretty awesome but I personally settled on Ultra Keyboard because I was used to the half-qwerty from my Touch HD.
Ultra Keyboard combines the two as well as giving you control over the size of the keys and a whole load of other options.
Speaking of awesome and intuitive keyboards, does anyone know what happenned with Blind Type? I remember hearing something about google buying it up (i THINK i remember that, anyway) and had pressumed that maybe it would be incorporated into a future model of Android, probably 2.3. Now I'm running on 2.3 and have heard nothing of Blind Type since then, I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea?
Definitely the best keyboard i've tried so far is SwiftKey, even better and Swype (i have them both).
Another vote here for swiftkey, the predictive text (once it's trawled through your old texts and emails) is nothing short of amazing.
Although the way it can actually predict the next word after you finish the current one is a little scary/depressing. Am i really *that* predictable?
I had installed swype on my xperia arc and tried it out for sometime. I was not happy or rather felt that the original default kb was better. I uninstalled swype. There was a different keyboard then instead of the original gingerbread one. I had to then do a factory reset to get back the original kb
Sent from my LT15i using XDA Premium App
i never got used to swype i prefer standard Gingerbread keyboard. was upset it wasn't included with the arc, but you can find the apk here on xda
Or you can just download the Gingerbread keyboard from the market for free.
i bought swiftkey and tried it for a week but sadly it did not seem to predict very well for me.. swype is much faster for me, even if i'm just typing not swyping. i'm always hitting the wrong keys with swiftkey.
I use SlideIT now for a long time, it is personal of course, but for me its perfect.

Agree
I am on the latest beta for Swype and have to agree its pretty awesome! +1
Nice, thx!
I use ultra keyboard. Unfortunately it mixes up multitouch keystrokes (registers on key release). FlexT9 is also nice, and it does correct multitouch recognition plus excellent speech recognition (Dragon dictate)
But ultra has nicer option buttons right there in the prediction area, with inline translation, copy paste etc, and better correction after mistakes. Biggest gripe is the incomplete dictionary, no auto training/learning on email sms, bad capital recognition (problem in German mainly). Nevertheless, overall best keyboard so far that I came across.
SlideIT cannot do multitouch at all, bummer, otherwise very good as well.
My friend introduced me to the Swype but I was quite content with the existing ones. May try it later.
definitely recommend swype! ben using it since my X1i
Swyped from my LT15i-Arc
I'm looking for SWYPE for Xperia neo. Can anyone help please?

I would definitely recommend Swype to everyone. It's a no brainer! Why type when you can Swype?
And here are 7 Swype keyboard tips for better Swyping. It's definitely going to make your swyping experience better.
My only gripe with it is that I don't know how to insert a new line. All I see is a smiley button instead of the enter button.
EDIT: The smiley button is only there in the default messaging app. In other programs, it shows the enter key.

What keyboards are you using?

I'm hating life with Swype, SlideIt, Swiftkey and Samsung's default keyboards. All of those act crazy on webpage search fields or randomly crash. Swiftkey will erase the contents of entire text fields randomly so I can't use it unless I need motivation to kill. Hacker's is my favorite but there's no Swype feature or autocomplete. Swiftkey X is nice but that disappearing text thing is not something I can workaround. I have thumb keyboard but never tried it since its not really my style.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Wow never knew you could do that. I'm going to give it a shot.

Swiftkey X has never given me any problems; I've been using it for at least 6 months. Another good one is "hacker's keyboard."
For some reason Swiftkey will randomly stop working and/or delete everything in the current textfield. Its happened on my phone and tablet. Im guessing its a bug from the Amazon version.
Hacker's is sweet. If it had autocomplete I'd marry it.
Those two keyboards are really nice. Samsung's keyboard is slow.
I use swiftkey tablet x, it works nice for me. I am using the free version without auto correction, though.
+1 for swiftkey tablet x. I have occasionally noticed the website behavior mentioned by GorillaPimp but not often enough to be a deal killer.
Another vote for Swiftkey X. I haven't had the problem that you mentioned. I do find when typing quickly that the space bar doesn't always register, and I need to be more deliberate when pressing it. I love that I can switch between regular layout and thumb typing layout.

From the Play page for hacker's keyboard: "Completion dictionaries are provided by plug-in packages, see the "other applications by this developer" section for the currently available list."
I am using FlexT9 keyboard works great with my Samsung external keyboard. I am using Gtab 10.1 wifi AOKP build 36. The only thing is on the external keyboard the home button doesn't work. Which is probly rom specific.

[Q] Best keyboard?

I've been using Swiftkey for the longest but it's been buggy since an update so I'm looking for options. Preferably one with predictive typing.
I've tried other keyboards, but always end up back at the Swype beta. The predictive text is nearly perfect, especially once it learns as you use it. I also like sliding my finger to type. So, I use it while it's free and available.

I like stock HTC keyboards. They just feel great to use.
Currently I'm using a Sense 4.0 look-a-like keyboard on my phone.
No problems so far!

Unless you run a sense 4 Rom, you will have to use a look alike, not the real deal. I think there are some in the Play Store.

I use the htc stock keyboard, too.
Alternative, I use the Swift Keyboard and no problems so far.
+1 for Thumb Keyboard
I'm a Swype man with their latest update copying SwiftKey with implementing a prediction algorithm. I don't think it's used to it's full potential (ie. That could use it to knock out words that are similar to the pattern but you're obviously not going to use after the previous word) but it's nice.
SwiftKey 3 would be my only other alternative.

I have also come back to Swype Beta :good:. Great layout and you can prod or swipe. Currently the Dragon Naturally Speaking add-on does not work for me - not sure if caused by the custom ROM or something else - but as I prefer to swipe it is no big loss. Only additional comment on the predictive text is it tends only to offer predictions/alternatives once you have finished swiping a word, rather that guessing part way through and offering options. It offers the additional predictive words neatly across the top of the keyboard which can be scrolled horizontally to see more.
Other option
If you'd like to try something else, go for A.I. Type. It's not free (or as good as swiftkey) but works quite well nonetheless. (The Tablet version is incredible though.) :victory:

Swiftkey3 or Android 4.2 keyboard?

What do you guys think? I really really enjoy swype like 4.2 and I do think its faster typing but I think swiftkey is more accurate making it faster.... Thoughts?

SwiftKey keyboard FTW
SwiftKey.... and now that it's bringing flow... it's going to faster and accurate than swype
HTC EVO LTE
No competition. Swiftkey hands down.
Best features of Swiftkey for me are the swipe-back to delete a word (seriously, so amazing) and the predictions it has. It reads my mind like no other keyboard can.
And with Flow coming, all other keyboards will be useless in comparison.

Throw up another vote for Swiftkey. Although I do recommend you try out the upcoming 4.2 Android keyboard because it implements swype-like functionality. Swiftkey will also bring this with their "Swiftkey Flow" update that should be in beta soon.
swift key hands down i use in on all my droid devices tablet and phone, it makes life easy especially with the predictive text
I like Android 4.2.
Swiftkey 3 never seems to learn my style so to me it's just another keyboard. But other than the learning part that should be happening..when compared to other keyboards I use, it isn't that great. Can't even use it in the browser.
So Android 4.2 wins my book just because it's reliable. Once it added the feature where it'll autocorrect that space...that's when I walked right away from Swiftkey 3 because that was the ONLY thing keeping me there.
SwiftKey is the best keyboard forever.
I can type some messages without even looking at the screen. The auto correct is so good, the messages will come out correct.
I tried the latest Android keyboard and while it was nice, it was too buggy for me so I deleted it after a couple hours of dealing with FC's, the latest Swype is their best version, but imo neither come close to Swift Key 3
I'm currently typing this using the 4.2 keyboard and unfortunately I miss using swiftkey so badly that right after this, I'll revert. I mean, they did a good job but swiftkey owns it.

I love Swiftkey ever since I adopted it a few months ago. The stock keyboard was nice, I haven't used 4.2 yet, but the whole customizable-by-social-network dictionary on Swiftkey is phenomenal. That's basically the only reason I use it for since I actively use twitter on a daily basis. Also don't forget the fact that Swiftkey can scan all your SMS messages (which means all my 15+ conversations with over 14,000 texts) and use special-case words such as the last names of friends in your dictionary. That's basically why I use Swiftkey and I don't think I'll ever go back. Plus, I never liked the whole Swype-like keyboards so I probably won't like the 4.2 keyboard at all.
I never use swype type keyboards, but the swype in the new 4.2 KB is pretty nice. I only use that feature about 10% of the time.
Also, the word prediction is pretty amazing.
I just sent a text that said 'just wanted to say Dillon really misses you' and I only had to type 4 letters of it. It predicted the rest. Crazy. Scary.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
Use both. End of the day when both hands are available I prefer swift (its predictive engine is great) but sometimes if you're carrying something and only one hand is available swyping whether it be android 4.2,slideit, swype etc are easier.
Swyping is easier when driving which we shouldn't be doing anyways lol.

What's Your Favorite Android Keyboad & Why??

Hey there guys, I have been on the hunt for the Best Android Keyboad, and I wanted to see what everyone here was using?? I have tried stock, predictive, and the slide type, (I have not had the chance to play with any of the other 3rd party keyboards, with all sorts of different technology's.
So, I was wondering if some of you fellow xda-ers wanted to weight in on this, and help guide me on my adventure??
Thanks in advance :cool

swype for normal language but my most preferred is hackers keyboard. latter has a full keyboard like on pc when in landscape mode. pretty awesome on big screens like galaxy note. also almost every keyboard has the stupid white text entry over the entire remaining screen where there is not the keyboard, which hides my chat windows away and makes landscape a pain. hackers keyboard does not do such. you have keyboard and chatlog.
I like Android 4.2's stock keyboard. It has everything you need. Predictive text, spell-checking, gesture typing, multiple finger gesture typing. I use English Azerty, and it is just great for me!

Swype, although the 4.2 keyboard's implementation of this looks nice. I also like Hacker's Keyboard on my tablet which is just a PC looking keyboard layout. If they could implement a Swype functionality with it then it would be my favorite.
Swiftkey 3 is my Favourite.
Simply because
1)It is more intuitive than the rest, thus producing more CORRECT Auto Correction
2)It learns your way of typing and in real time monitors all that you type and maintains your individual statistics
3)It individually Learns from your fb,sms, email and twitter threads.
4)It also provides a good number of visual customization options
Thus overall it proves to be the best package

Thanx guys for the input, and all the great info I find ShayonX, IMO, as to swiftkey 3, and as far as "prediction boards", go I think there is no better. I was actually going to go with swiftkey 3, but I just found it was lacking on skins, and customization. I like to be able 2 change the size, and width of my characters, (due to wide fingers), and skins are a great Addition
I tried Swift key 3, touchpal keyboard, go keyboard, and perfect keyboard, and ended up going with "perfect keyboard, bcuz the customization is very deatailed. I also tried swype style keyboard, but I found predictive to be the style for me.
I am running the Moto Phonton, so I won't be getting the 4.0 or 4.2 update, so is there anything else out there to look @??
