Rooting
(For unlocked Bootloaders)
RootXperia.zip or SU method
This is an one click PC app for easy rooting created by Bin4ry .
Steps
1. follow the instructions of this thread & install CWM recovery(there are two methods ,since you dont have root follow the first method i.e direct pc install)
2.Download RootXperia.zip or Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed..zip & place it in your SDCard
3. switch off your device & power it on & when you see the sony ericsson logo start pressing the volume download button repeatedly untill you see recovery options
3. select the install zip from sd card option and select the RootXperia.zip
4. after flashing the zip is completed reboot device & voila rooted !!!
(For locked Bootloaders)
Go to these threads , instructions are provided by madfysh ,thank him
4.1.B.0.431
4.1.B.0.587
[2].Bootloader
Bootloaders are used to boot operating system on our device . Usually our phone's bootloader will be locked by Sony Ericsson during its production itself . Almost every custom rom we install has its own KERNEL which is responsible for overclocking the cpu & other stuff. To install custom roms which contains custom kernels we need UNLOCKED BOOTLOADERS .
Unlocking via Sony's Official website
Sony has provided a website where we get an unlock code for each IMEI no. type in that code and your bootloader will get unlocked officially . This is the easiest unlocking method possible . Wait there's more , official unlocking method does more bad than good , like
1. will void warranty
2. Will loose DRM & track Id related stuff
3. No official phone updates via SEUS/PCC or OTA
If you don't care about them please go ahead and click this LINK and follow on-screen instructions on that site
RELOCK : TO relock use this LINK
There is an alternative way to avoid the above mentioned limitations , it is called SEtool
Unofficial Unlocking (S1tool)
This method overcomes all the three limitations , but you will need to do a little work manually , this method introduces us to a new word called TESTPOINT(Of all those 8 golden points , only the point which is indicated by the arrow is the TESTPOINT) .For NEO V testpoint is located deep within a slot covered by a black patch which is above our SIMCARD slot (see this picture and remove the black covering) .
It is used for function-test during production. & we are going to ground that testpoint using a simple wire .instead of that pin you can use any conducting material (wire , safety pin , paper clip , but make sure its diameter is not more than that of the testpoint else it will touch other points and might brick your phone)
Ground : ground is refereed as the negative battery pin of the phone
Steps
1. download & extract SEtool from this thread , if not available [LINK 2] , [LINK 3] , [Thanks to Madfysh & Wurstwa55er]
2. Connect test point to the ground and attach USB cable. Wait while Windows shows finding new device, disconnect test point immediately. Windows won't find appropriate drivers. select drivers manually from the archive of SEtool. Agree to install 'untrusted' drivers.
3. Reboot your PC
4. Run s1tool, press 'Patch semcboot' and follow tho on-screen instruction.
RELOCK : : ONLY THE RESTORE BUTTON PRESENT IN S1TOOL WILL RELOCK YOUR BOOTLOADER , other procedures will not work.Connecting TP to ground while using RESTORE button is not necessary.
EXTRA info : (thanks to DooMLord)
[3].ClockWorkMod Recovery
ClockWorkMod Recovery also known as CWM ,is a Custom recovery for android devices which is very useful for
1. Installing custom roms ,kernels, patches , flashable zips.
2. Backup & restoring your rom
3. Wiping system , cache & other partitions
4. Mounting sd-card & other partitions
5. & more
Steps
1. Enable USB Debugging on device
2. Connect your device using usb data cable
3. download and extract CWM install.RAR
4. Download ADB Drivers ADB drivers & install them & Run install-cwm1.cmd
5. Follow on screen instruction
Switch off your phone , press the power button and keep pressing the volume down button when you see Sony Ericsson for the first time until you see CWM(not the logo/boot animation , the SONY ERICSSON screen which appears first) task COMPLETE
[4].Nandroid Backup
Nandroid backup is a backup/restore option available in your CWM . Backup you current SE rom for saftey , select backup option and let it do its work . The backuped files will be in ClockWorkMOD folder of your SD card , keep a backup of this backup in your PC in case when anything goes wrong this backup will save you
this total information has been taken from several threads thanks to the following who made it possible

[5].Kernel Installation
Kernels(boot.img) are the main base for any custom rom you install , kernels are installed using FASTBOOT feature of android ADB , there is a simple logic you need to remember before you flash any kernel
Stock Rom = Stock kernel
MIUI Rom = MIUI Kernel
before you flash any custom rom make sure you've installed its related kernel (boot.img)
Click to collapse
Requirements :
1. Flashtool
2. Download Flashtool package & Drivers
3. CWM backup of stock rom
4. Fastboot
Instructions : (thanks to doomlord)
Flashing Kernel (boot.img):
1. this WILL NOT WIPE ur data
2. the custom kernel will be provided as boot.img file
3. just copy this file to fastboot folder(folder where fastboot package is extracted)
4. power down device and get into FASTBOOT MODE (LED notification turns BLUE)(switch off device hold menu key & plugin usb) with usb-cable connected to PC
5. once u are in fastboot mode open command prompt and navigate to the folder containing fastboot files then just use the following command to flash custom kernel:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
6. once flashing is complete you will get a prompt on pc saying that everything is ok
7. now just unplug ur device and u are on the custom kernel
Overclocking
1. DOWNLOAD SetCPU from XDA
2. Select automatic detection of speeds ,and allow root access to Setcpu
3. default speed is 1024Mhz & maximum overclocking is based on the kernel you flash

you can do this to:
downgrade your Neo V to firmware 42 and root again and install cwm and then flash the zipfile in my sig the red one through cwm and its done and you have rooted 62 and you dont need a full factory reset or wipe things, just flash

What file is missing?
I've used the unnoficial method for unlocking, installed CWM, downgraded to .48, rooted, updated to .62.
EDIT:
Apparently you have to hold "back" button the whole time until the procedure is over. It must be the reason why I couldn't unlock the bootloader at first attempt too - I thought it was due to .68 fw, though this seemed a bit strange.
So if anyone have this problem, hold the back button the whole time until the procedure is over

[HOW-TO]UNLOCK bootloader for X10

If you aren't keeping your current device configuration (because of flashing another rom after unlocking bootloader or anything else) the simplest way to unlock is to flash stock 2.3.3 rom, root it and use the bl unlock plugin from latest flashtool
Hi guys, cause it was asked for, here is a how-to to unlock bootloader without reflashing a 2.1 firmware what means no need of reinstall your current rom after unlocking bootloader.
In the archive with the unlocking files take care about the following:
the semc bat is for x10i and x10a. But only if you haven't tried any simunlocking
the setool2 bat is for all those have simunlocked using the setool2
if you don't know it, or not sure about, have a look at the 2nd post, there you'll find a tool to test it.
for those doesn't fit any of those two critericas, don't try to unlock bootloader with this steps/files linked here
Things you need:
the bl unlock file from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253277
Kernel up/downgrade for flashtool from here:
Kernel downgrade
Kernel upgrade
a custom kernel for unlocked bootloader to flash after you have unlocked it successfully
If you haven't all the listed things on your computer, then first downoad all neccessary files I have listed above before you go on with the guide how-to do it!!
Please make sure you have enabled usb-debugging in your current rom before starting with this!!
flash the azuzu kernel downgrade ftf with flashtool
disconnect usb cable, press power button until phone vibrates shortly and immidiatly connect the usb cable again (it is supposed to be stuck at SE logo)
start the batch file for unlocking bootloader, cause it says press any button before it starts, it won't start unlocking until you press any button
now wait until flashtool recognizes your x10 (if flashtool doesn't do anything, check third post please! thx)
close flashtool and then press any button in the cmd window that the unlocking process starts (please close flashtool, instead the bl unlock cmd and flashtool are constantly killing and restarting adb!!)
after unlocking is finish you have to flash azuzu kernel upgrade
now power on phone to check if the phone is starting after the unlock (if you are using a custom kernel yet with the bypass method and get stuck in a bootloop enter xrecovery and clear dalvik-cache, then your phone should boot up again fine)
If you aren't seeing the se logo at turning on phone, but directly the custom kernel logo, you were succesfully. If you want to enter xrecovery you have to spam the back button now if the xperia logo appears instead of the se logo.

TOOLS
For testing if you are ready for unlocking bootloader or not, use this tool:
s1tool.7z
If you can find semc simlock certificate in one of the last lines from the output, you can unlock your bl with the *semc.bat file
If you can find anything with setool2 in one of the last lines from the output, you can unlock your bl with the *setool2.bat file
If you can't find any of these two and see instead s.th. like unknown simlock certificate or similar, you can not unlock your bl. In this case, first simunlock your bl with setool2, then check again with s1tool.
s1tool can also relock your bl if you want to make use of your warranty.
Regards,
L
Installing Flash-and adb drivers for x10 (!they where updated with the 2.3.3 update!)
1. open the drivers manager of your pc
2. connect phone in flashmode (without running any program like flashtool, seus or pccp)
3. check if there appears an unkown device, which wasn't there before (if not go on, if yes read under the line in this post further on)
4. no unknown device? Good
5. turn on phone and connect usb cable again and check again for unknown devices
_____________________________________________________________________________________
If there is an unknown device, download this archive (it contains the 2.3.3 adb and flash drivers)
1. In Flashmode is an unknown device: Go to the archive and install the ggsetup-2.2.0.11.exe file you find in there.
2. After turning on there is an unknown device: extract the archive and search with your pc's drivers manager manually in that folder for the drivers of the unkown device, then they should be installed.
3. Now check again like I described it above the line for unknown devices, if you can't see them now anymore, try again to unlock your bl.

L

Does this unlock my sim to use different networks? Or is this something that will now be possible at a later time without paying for it? At this point what are the advantages of doing this procedure?
What is the difference between bootloader unlocked/kernel
and bootloader locked/kernel?

No, it does not mean you can use any sim card. It means, you can flash different recoveries, ROMs, HBoots etc...
You are not judged to one ROM, simply put.

1. This only unlocks your bootloader, not your simlock
2. The advantages are:
that the custom kernel is loaded directly which is a more stable way to use the custom kernel
your phone is starting faster than with the bypass method cause you don't load se kernel, kill him and then load your own kernel, you load your own kernel directly
doom is testing it atm and then releaseing hopefully the kernel with inbuilt recovery, so if you for examply format system, recovery isn't deleted, cause it's inbuilt in kernel
...

da das ja doch ein ziemlich gefährliches unterfangen ist, wär es gut dass ganze howto in verschiedenen sprachen zu liefern.deutsch wär das beste für mich
cause this is a dangerous howto it´s good to translate it in different languages.so you can understand better.

It's better to do it via Flashtool i Think...The procedure is this:
1. Download Flashtool,then install,then go to C:/Flashtool/drivers and install flashtool_drivers,when you've done this if your pc has a 32bit cpu,start the normal one,otherwise start Flashtool64
2. Before connecting the phone to the pc,enable USB Debugging and Unknown Sources, then connect the phone and let it install the drivers.
3. Go to FlashTool and when it recognizes your phone, click on Plugins->Bootloader Unlock->Run and follow CAREFULLY the instructions.
4. When done, voilà,you phone will have unlocked BL! But don't forget to root it
Hope I helped ya

[ SOLVED ] Need help unlocking bootloader

Hi guys i am unable to unlock the bootloader, both by androidflip.com test point method and the normal method, i've checked in my phone it says bootloader unlock allowed. Here is my problem,
1. In android flip method i can reach till the final step, but when in last step phone identification, the progress bar just goes crazy (installed gordons gate drivers)
2. In the regular method in flashboot, when i enter the first command to check for the phone connection it just stays in waiting for the phone ( I pressed the vol up button properly and the blue light glows)
I have installed 1. Android sdk tools, 2. Sony Pc Suite, 3. SEUS, 4.flashtool
I'm currently running
Android Version : 4.0.4
Baseband : 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-77
Kernal : 2.6.32.9-perf

bootloader unlock allowed : yes
currently using jjhybrid v3.2 stable ics rom, and i'm from india (if that would help)
pls anyone help me in unlocking the bootloader.

Kernal : 2.6.32.9-perf
build : jjhyb_v3.2
bootloader unlock allowed : yes
currently using jjhybrid v3.2 stable ics rom, and i'm from india (if that would help)
pls anyone help me in unlocking the bootloader.
thanks in advance

try this method
First Thing First: How To Install Custom Kernel
1) You need to UNLOCK BOOTLOADER using one of these method. I'm NOT responsible of what you've decide. Please follow instruction carefully.
-> S1tool
-> Sony Mobile - Unlock Bootloader
2) Get this awesome tool called Flashtool and install. Dont forget to install usb drivers from "Drivers" folder too.
3) I assume you have download one of my kernel. Get into Fastboot mode. How? Do i have to repeat how? Press "Volume Up" while connecting your USB cable. you'll see Blue led.
4) Click "Flash" button on Flashtool, then select Fastboot Mode.
5) Choose "Select Kernel to Flash" and find your saved kernel. I'm not gonna find it for you.
6) Once completed, reboot device into system

yeah I know it was really tough for you to gather everything in one place. But I think as this thread is a reference to other guides I think you should sum up some of the most important & useful things in one place to make this thread more supportive to people who find it difficult where should they start from. So make this thread providing clear concepts on bootloader, root, kernel, firmware etc 1st. Then guide them though by providing easiest methods to root on different firmwares & unlocking bootloader. You can also add guide how to flash ftf with flashtool, I just had these things in mind to tell you how you can improve this thread Later If I remember something else I will reply here

Thanks for this thread..!:good:
It helped me a lot with my xperia mini pro.
Now I have unlocked Bootloader/rooted phone with Kappa 1.6 Kernel and ViperXperia_V7 ROM and all that works from the first time just fine..!
I think my old Xperia X8 helped a lot to understand what is rooted/ulocked bootloader/CWM recovery/how to flash roms, kernels, but here everythink is a bit different.

Try that:
1. Restore your stock rom in cwm
2. Select power off (or reboot system now)
3. Take off the battery and wait 15 seconds. Then reinsert the battery!
4. Hold volume up and while pressing volume up just connect your phone to the pc. Don't press power or any other button, just volume up and connect!
5. The blue led should light up now
6. Head over to the development forum and download a kernel for your stock rom (gb -> gb kernel, ics -> ics kernel)
7. Open flashtool and click on the flash -> fastboot mode -> select kernel to flash -> select the kernel working for your stock rom
8. Click okay and wait until it has finished (should take around 5 -10 seconds)
9. Disconnect your phone and press the power button
Now it should work fine
If not, download the latest version of flashtool again and install all drivers from the flashtool installation folder -> drivers for all devices/modes again. Then do the steps as mentioned above
If that doesn't work either, post a flashtool log after connecting and trying to flash the new custom kernel, or try flashing the stock rom in flashmode again :good:

You are confusing bootloader with CWM based recovery.
Unlocked bootloader only means you can install custom kernels not made by Sony.
To have CWM recovery you will need to either, install a stock based custom kernel which already includes the recovery, or root your phone and install recovery.
Good u got me
yeah u r right i am confused becoz i am new to this phone.

You can root with DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit and then install CWM from CWM Recovery 6.0.1.2 for Locked Bootloader.
This CWM recovery has a glitch which won't indicate charging while phone is off. I have fix for Xperia P but it can only be installed if you did not attempt to install that one.
Or
You can flash custom stock based kernel, you can find a few in Xperia P Android Development.
Do you have PC Companion installed?
I have Pc Companion & also install that tool DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit i run it press any key & it install script i think it root my phone then i Run UnlockRoot Pro & Press Root & this Time it Works now its says Root Success !!!
now how can i check my phone is rooted or not any Tip !

Start PC Companion repair and wait untill it asks you to turn off the phone and connect it in flash mode (colume down ahile connecting the USB)
At this stage stop PCC and exit it.
Download flashtool and create firmware FTF as expalin here.
This is just to have a backup firmware in case you need it
Try to install my modified CWM for Xepria P. You only need to press volume down once when the notification LED turn on gray.
If you already installed the other CWM I've linked to do not attempt to install this one.

Yes you must install recovery or a kernel that has one built into it to have recovery.
On our Xperia devices it's pressing the volume down key after powering up. Some CWM implementations has LED indication when to press it so one time is enough, other that do not have LED indication you need to press every second or two untill CWM comes up.
Thanks !
Today i learn some basics from u, Thanks very much Time to Sleep
GudNight :good:
I will try these tools

Actually, if you plug the USB cable CWM will prepare to boot too so you can boot CWM before it switch to charger, once it switch to charger you won't be able to start CWM unless you disconnect the USB cable first.

No need for PMs, just quote or mention me in your post and I'll know you replied.
I don't understand exactly what are you trying to do.
To enter CWM Recovery you need to press the volume down key every second or two after powering up the phone and the Sony logo shows up.
To flash firmware with flashtool you need to press volume down while connecting the phone to the USB while the phone is off.
I would advise against flashing abother formware, at least untill you learn a bit more.
Also, before flashing anything start repair your phone with PC Companion, and then when it ask to power off the phone stop and exit, then create firmware FTF file from PCC files as explained in this article to make sure you have the right firmware for your phone in case something bad happen,
Your bootloader is unlocked so PCC and SUS would not flash it, be prepared.
i have ftf file downloaded from internet
thanks for reply i have same latest firmware JB 4.1.2 downloaded from internet i want to install this firmware on existing firmware JB 4.1.2 using Flashtool.

i have used HTC Desire i root that phone and install recovery .. i just download firmware in .zip format and copy to SD Card and goto CWm recorvy menu and click install upadte from .zip file and my firmware install ...
Can i use same method for Sony Xperia P which i have used for my HTC Desire if Yes
Where can i find that files in .zip so i just copy them to internal memory and install firmawre easily !!!
Why would you want to install it at all if it's not newer than yours and you don't have any problem?
FTF files can be flashed with flahtool only.
Custom flashable ROM zip files are falshed using CWM Recovery.
learn another tip thanks

Wjen it first came out it came with GB, mine came with ICS,
You can search for FTF that is compatible with your region or a world one, and flash it with flashtool.
Look for 6.1.1.B.1.75 or 6.1.1.B.1.54, .54 has the 8MP flash bug(not all the picture iluminated)
Exclude TA when flashing if it exist in the file.
That make me confused some came with ICS some with GingerBread
i think i have internal version.
i am from Pakistan . i think here all phones are internal version some i also saw T-Mobile,AT&T etc in 2nd Hand market but in New all are international versions.
Here is my phone pic attached !!! :highfive:
