[Q] Easy ICS 4.0.3 update? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi chaps,
I just manually updated my wife Nexus S to ICS 4.0.3 using these rather easy instructions, and it was a massive success!
http://www.androidcentral.com/how-manually-update-your-gsm-nexus-s-ice-cream-sandwich
Is there such an easy method for the S2 yet?

unfortunately there is no such method yet

Thanks chaps,
Is there a different method for doing it yet, maybe using odin out something?

Nexus S is Google's own product
Samsung galaxy s2 is Samsung's product so we have to wait for update in q1 of 2012 it could be anytime between 1jan - 31st march 2012

There currently isn't a fully functional version yet. They all have bugs and are pending another official release.
You can keep yourself posted here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402431
They have video tutorials for flashing the ROM in the thread. I wouldn't do it until they get the microphone and camera working.
Good luck

The software has to exist for the SGS2 first before you can flash it in. At the current time, Samsung has not yet released ICS for it.
It was easy for the Nexus S because Google develops and released ICS for it directly.

Me too, I have managed to flash ICS Aphal 13 version many times, but it seems no effect, the instruction is not so clear for me. I hope that they will issue the easiest way for us when the official ICS from Samsung issues.

Indeed How I Wish Samsung Does The Same..

[Q] Where to download the ICS Stock RUU for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi?

Hi, while ago I rooted my tab, hoping that CM rather quickly adapts the ICS.
By now, I guess I don't really care any more, but since it's rooted I can not update directly.
Is there a website where I can download the Stock ICS RUU for the tab 10.1?
-Thanks
You could try here, you'll need to register. http://www.samfirmware.com/
Edit: I missed the ICS bit!
There isn't a stock ICS release yet.
And it's only HTC who refer to their ROM updates as RRU.

Where are you located?
Is your tab wifi only?
If there's an update available for your model but you can't get it yet via OTA, you should
be able to get it using Kies (you'll have to do a reset on the tab first).
You can also flash it using Odin (again, IF there's an update available for your model. If there is,
you should be able to get the file from the sammobile site).

Like the previous post said, just install a custom ICS rom. They will run better than Samsung's stock ICS anyway. Most of them should be stable. There are also a couple of Jellybean roms available and running just as good as ICS.

I've been having just this discussion with Samsung, and following a long phone call to Mobile Support they have said that they have no plans for the ICS upgrade for Baseband Version P7500XXKL3. Or put another way, despite spending full price of £659 for the 64gig 3G vesion last year, we can get stuffed zs they have our money.
I find that attitude galling as my sons P7510 was updated ages ago......
Contact Mobile Support and make a lot of noise, and then maybe they will sort out whatever problem they have with the modem firmware and we'll get an update.
I would do a custom ROM but I'm worried I'll screw the Tab up and brick it
Well, I think flashing some of the custom rom is the easiest solution for Your question. If You follow the guidelines how to do it, I
think there's no real threat of damaging Your tab. But of course the choice is Your's...

There are Samsung Stock P7500 ICS ROMS for Italy, Baltics, Turkey and India over at samsung-updates.com. I doubt that they would stop there and never carry on for the rest of the countries. These were released in July and August.

Just make sure you flash a ROM for the correct version of tablet and you should be fine. So far as I can tell, basically all of the ROMs are for 75xx tablets so you should be fine.

If it is a UK board, you "should" be able to upgrade. Depends on such a large number of things, mentioned in quite a few threads in this forum. But if it is "standard" UK P7500, then it could be rooting, non-official ROM, and so on...
The sammobile/samfirmware site mostly has the latest and greatest. If you do not see it there, it just is not available yet (mostly, Canada is excluded there, BTW).

AFAIK i9100P can use run the same firmware as the international i9100.
From my sources, S2 should be updated directly to 4.1.2, They are in the final testing stages of updating and hopefully in the next 2-3 weeks we should be getting the update...or atleast leaks! Same for the Galaxy Note

get a aokp based rom and u can have 4.1.2 right now and probably it will be faster then samsung stock full of crap...

Just bought S3 and want to ROOT and install OTA 4.1.2, possible?

Hi Guys,
I just bought a new Galaxy S3 here in New Zealand and before I start using it, I want to update it to the latest version, I believe 4.1.2 and then root it, can this be done? whats the best option for me? I see the Galaxy Toolkit to do the rooting, is this the most popular/best ?
Also after rooted, can I still do the OTA updates or will I have to flash custom roms?

If 4.1.2 was not yet launched in NZ, then you will not get any update for your phone at the moment.
What you could do is, root your phone and then install the 4.1.2 version (Poland)(root is not required for flashing though). For rooting refer to the stickies in general section. Popular methods are CF-Root 6.4 (incl. CWM as recovery) or CF-Auto-Root (keeps stock recovery) (both can be found in dev. section).
After rooting you will not be able to get OTA updates though, whereas KIES should still work (but you will loose root if you update).
In addition, make sure to read all the stickies and guides for rooting before you touch anything! Especially the EFS backup procedure.
I hope it helps.
Rooting your phone voids it from getting OTA updates.

As said above 4.1.2 is still not available in NZ. So you can flash other ones (like Poland) if needed.

After rooting OTA updates will not work. But you can still get the firmware and flash them through Odin. This will remove root and will have to go through the rooting procedure again.
I feel samsung will release 4.1.2 for other regions soon and my suggestion would be to wait for that and then go ahead with rooting
You don't need to root your phone to install an official firmware!

Thanks guys yeah 4.1.2 does not look like its been released yet, I'll wait for it to come out then root cheers!
I used to wait for offical releases, then realised there was no need - the custom ROMs are far better than the official and much faster at new releases than regional Samsung rollout. They also get rid of the battery sapping bling most people only use the once.
If you are going to root anyhow, then the warranty isn't a concern.
Just had bad experiences with 3rd-party ROM's. Had a Desire Z and ran about 5 different roms, cyanogen, gingerbread and ICS variants, mimcry, ilwt, extreme mod, and none of them seemed to run very well after a few weeks of use. The stock ROM on this galaxy is flying like no tomorrow! especially after simply disabling the garbage apps

I'll admit that Samsung could teach HTC quite a few things about writing a good ROM, I'm sticking with customs of the stock jb 4.1.2 for now as it all works so well and saves me having to remember what needs disabling. I tried a few minimalist roms before sticking with the viking one.
I've got a 4.1.2 in NZ but that's because my phone bricked and they updated it when fixing it(4.1.2 supposed to have the fix for bricking)

[Q] [Help] Rooting SG2 HD Lte (Bell) Jelly Bean

Good day all,
I know pretty much the basics how to root a phone - My question is; Since the newly update of Jelly Bean on my Bell Samsung Galaxy S2 HD Lte, it seems like I can only find the ICS Root zip. That being said, I still manage to root my phone but with ICS. Somehow it worked.... Any available Root for the new upgrade to Jelly Bean ? Believe me, I've been looking for an hour yesterday online and no luck.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Anyone ?
have u tried by using flashing method to upgrade the build system?

thanks for the reply - I'm not that technically inclined enough to know what you're talking about. All I know is that I rooted my phone with a zip that had _ics.zip. I'm currently running 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but somehow the root worked. But I'd feel better if there's a version that had the jelly bean support root. Sorry if I'm not making much sense here.
I believe that there might be a rooter directly for JB user. Especially u use Samsung tab. Try to find it out in sub forum of XDA about Official info of Samsung
