I thought that with the impending release of Android 3.0 AOSP, it would make sense to have a thread similar to "CM7 General Discussion thread" where users can post questions, instead of cluttering up the development threads. I'll start a FAQ in this OP and will add additional FAQ items as suggested by others in the thread.

A. Yes. The recommended hardware is 1.0 ghz (easily obtained with Dalingrin's OC kernel) and 512mb (the same amount of RAM as found in the NC). And NC runs the preview builds just fine.
Q. " It is mid-March, the Motorola Xoom has been released with Android 3.0, yet there has not been any recent releases of builds of Honeycomb for NC - why not ?"
A. Devs are waiting for "Android 3.0 AOSP" the actual source code for the release of 3.0 that was used in the Xoom product (and others). The AOSP is often released several weeks after the release of the first hardware product.

Agree with ADude...this type of thread needed to happen for HC. Thanks for getting it going.
HC stuff is a bit slow now, with CM7 doing most of the heavy lifting at the moment, but HC will start rollin' again when (if?) AOSP is released to the masses. Would like to see this thread grow and provide a lot of good insight for those who may not be as dev-savvy. There are a lot of very smart people in the forums, so help is never too far away.
How long did it take deeper blue to port hc to the nook the first time? Just curious because I assume the same kind if wait for aosp. It seemed almost instant but I didn't have a nook at the time. It might have seemed a lot longer had I been lurking the threads then. Either way can't wait until google finally releases the code.

Tried, but they couldn't be installed -- the SDK version changed in the final version of Honeycomb. Faking the SDK version number didn't seem to help neither.
Cant wait for a full 3.0, really exciting stuff.
Just hope they can use the BT stuff from cm7 to get it working in HC, otherwise I'm probably gonna stay with cm7.
dalingrin said that all the progress that has been made for gingerbread should transfer over to honeycomb. anyone who is interested in honeycomb should be fully supporting cyanogen as they will be the ones to get us the build.
I just got a Nook Color off eBay...I'm looking forward to rooting and installing (hopefully) honeycomb on it. How stable is it?
The emmc version by samualhaff is stable. I would recommend it, I use it as my daily driver.

I like HC I use it every now and then on my SD card
but the only reason I havent completly moved over is that I can't get the market so that means I cant get books from B&N or Sony or such as it won't connect to my computer either
I know it is still in the beta stages though

Same here. Running eMMC 2nd and I have no complaints. For being stripped from the SDK's emulator it runs rather exceptional. A few apps here and there don't work and HQ YouTube is missing but regular quality looks fine for the time being.

Yes. There is a work around for full functionality if someone has issues (a few apps are not visible however).

stripped from the sdk preview at that. it works remarkably well.
I tried the nexus one final sdk build, and the sdk berson and the APIs should match the AOSP, so more honeycomb features and apps worked, which made me even more eager for our next nook color release, be it final sdk based or AOSP.

You do realize that Android is Open Source, right?
Here's an idea, maybe something else can contribute or confirm it might works..
the Nook honeycomb image is actually running on top of a 2.6.29-omap kernel, which indicate that only some parts might require 2.6.36.3 functions.
I know that the main problem for me porting it, was the libc.so which uses kernel calls not found in our existing 2.6.32.9 kernel. so it crashed due to some cache functions not implemented.
- could the missing cache functions be implemented into our 2.6.32 kernel?
- can the Nook edition with a working libc.so (hopefully without FPU function compiled) be used to replace our xoom image libc.so which crashes?
So to make an early edition can we merge the ARMv5 libs (i assume it is from the emu) and use this with xoom edition and then keep our libnv* environment which is compatible without our nvrm_daemon (which no one can fix, although a proper kernel work for booting 2.6.36.3)
ideas.. but if its possible to put into "real life" is another story.
and how many can do experiments?
Artem wrote he is on the 2.6.36.3 kernel, but since we might have an option to go around, maybe also worth considering, if display driver lacks nvrm_daemon support.

i tries all this out now.. and got passed some link references between libs but the "libc.so" issue came coming back..
so it did not work..
im closing the idea here :-( not worth spending time on, so only the solution with updating kernel and rewriting drivers must be the way forward.
May be I should wait for ubuntu 11.04 or some other linux OS for folio 100

Yup, I also think that waiting for updated kernel + drivers from the new Toshiba folio 200 is a more feasible approach...

we already know it has different resolution . and probably better display now, and no hardware buttons on the side, so no I2C used for this..
i think its very different, as it probably also got 802.11n wifi now, which we dont have and need different ar6000 driver.
i think its a long road downhill for folio100 if the 200 edition should be anything close as source for porting.

Please, I'm no expert in this, so bare with me for asking questions.
Honeycomb uses a different kernel than Froyo ok.
For Froyo we have the source for all (hardware) drivers ?
Can the "android" part of Honeycomb (from for example Xoom) be put on
a kernel with required hardware drivers or are there stuff in the "android"
stuff that is hardware dependant ?
Is it hard to port drivers between kernel versions ?
Just trying to understand the many tasks need to get Honeycomb on Folio.

xoom kernel source is available, koush used it to make his clockworkmod work , and it works fine, and its also used for oc'ing.
but its pretty much the tegra2 source we can get from nvidia. but alot of porting to do.
So, What we are still missing is?

I am a complete noobie as far as rom development so this may not be possible but....
i was looking on the xda forums and saw the developer got a working of honeycomb version on the dell streak 7 which is a harmony based device also I think. any dev can maybe examine his kernel and see if it can be applied on the g tablet?

There are a few versions of HC that work on the G-Tab. What specifically are you referring to?
Are you saying the Dell has Harmony with full HW acceleration?
thats what it sounds like other than than they he doesn't seem to have oc capabilities and issues with usb mounting. but thats why i wanted to know if anyone has looked at it he got 3.2 pulled from a xoom so i don't know.
saw the Umodified Honeycomb on Kernel 2.6.36 - Updated 21/07/2011 for the adam has full hardware acceleration ..... maybe if someone can take parts of his kernel and mix it with one of ours we can get a hc kernel with full hd acceleration?

I'm totally guessing but I think those HW drivers are specific to the honeycomb kernel. I've been following that thread and I'm totally impressed at what Rayman has been able to do. I'm sure when that's done, we'll be able to use that kernel too.
But then again...pershoot is a muthaf'in genius haha. So maybe he can use it.

I am currently using Flashback 5.5 and with his latest kernel, plants vs zombiesv is the only game that will not work. Everything else is great!
This has been the best HC ROM I have used so far.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, but I looked and searched many times and has not found any details.
I have ready countless forums and websites saying that it is not possible to port over a honeycomb rom to the TouchPad because Google has not released the source code. I owned a Viewsonic G-Tablet and I had flashed a Honeycomb Rom and it was pretty stable. Even the Nook Color has a Honeycomb port. Why does the G-Tablet and the Nook Color have the ability to run honeycomb, but not the Touchpad.
Just a question and maybe some of the devs can look into this and maybe succefully port honeycomb onto the TouchPad!

I am not any type of dev. Hence this question I posted.
Just wait a little while for Ice Cream Sandwich, which will be much better than Honeycomb.
It's not that it's impossible to. It's that it's a pain, it tends to be broken, and with ICS around the corner, there is no reason to waste the effort.
I had a nook color it didnt run honeycomb it ran the sdk emulator and it was not good
Dont worry thr devs who are wotking on cm7 are nit tryung to get one over on u by using gingerbread

This. The Honeycomb roms for the Nook and other tablets are hacked together from the SDK, so they're not optimized for the device they're running on. Since there's no source, issues cant be (comparably) easily fixed. And with that in mind, you need a good working Android base which doesnt yet exist for the touchpad since CM is (rightfully) withholding source due to its alpha status.
Even if we did have CM source, the ICS source release is just around the corner. There's no point in doing it since the work wouldnt translate and just be wasted.
Wait for the ICS source to drop if you want ICS.

All Honeycomb ports are hacks because Google has never released the full source for it.
The Touchpad _could_ run Honeycomb, but as the only development for it is CM7, which is gingerbread based currently, that's what you get.
If you can find some people who want to sink the time into hacking Honeycomb onto it, then you could have it, but I doubt anyone is going to want to bother given that ICS source is due in the next couple of months and with any luck we'll get a CM8 port instead of a half-assed Honeycomb.

CM9 you mean;-) CM8 has been kept open for Honeycomb specifically, so the next CM will be CM9 I read somewhere.
I think HD2 is able to boot Honeycomb too, but it never got stable.

Just in the last week did we go from pretty much no Android to pretty dang functional gingerbread... And already asking why don't we/why doesn't someone port honeycomb... Really? Seems a little unappreciative but maybe that's just me...

First, the nook and g-tablet ARE Android devices to being with.
Second, it took some time to get the above devices to "run" Honeycomb.
Third, neither is completely functional with Honeycomb.
Lastly, if you really really want Android your best is probably to get an Android device. I also have a g-tablet and with custom ROM that made it mostly functional, it was never 100% and issue free. I was never completely satisfied until I got an real Android device (Asus Transformer).
Being able to dual boot the Touchpad with a functional Android OS would be nice. But personally I got it to try out WebOS and have something different.

I agree, but it seemed to be the best place for it at the time.
And I think the point is being missed, for the HD2 and my Hero, lots of other device's Kernel's are imported/exported, and since its source, theirs often lots of improvements that can be made cross device when kernel source is available...
So hes putting it here encase any of the kernel developers want to take a crack at porting it over to the TF101 or using parts/pieces/whole/cannibalize it...
either way, the TF201 needs its own section, but I myself approve of this threads importance even in the TF101 section*...

Hold on, is that a kernel for Honeycomb or ICS? if it's for ICS it should be fairly trivial* to backport it to the TF101 for a working ICS on TF101, right?

But i agree with hammerfist about the kernel when the LGp500 source came out we nicked it straight away to port to the GT540 so maybe some similar could be done with this?

LG P500 and LG GT540 both use the same MSM7227 CPU and shared a lot of hardware, These two have a lot less common of a base, different hardware, different CPU.
Note: in my search the biggest difference apart from one running donut, and one running froyo/gingerbread. is the LCD size

Even if we port it, what pros could we get? As soon as ICS is released by Asus we will get the sources of the 3.0 kernel

AFAIK they took a breath from work, but I'm almost 99% sure Blades will come back with Clemsyn on his side
They have given us updates faster than any other Manufacturer AFAIK and give source with release I think instead of a few months latter.

@gnufabio: I know, but somehow I dont think they will release kernel source for TF101 ICS as fast (IE prior) like they have for the TF201... it seems they have REALLY started slacking off on the TF101 source release's (see comment above)... hense why I made mention...
I'm showing 10.19.2011 as the last official firmware release. I assume the last 5 weeks they have been making us some ICS no point wasting resources now for honeycomb since we are getting ICS.

Actually, that kernel source isn't ICS (ICS builds on 2.6.38, and this source is 2.6.36), but it has some new kernel configs, and an interesting flag too (it shows that the TF Prime will have 2048MB of RAM, my last info was that it's only 1024!)

Your looking at the FRIMWARE... aka the ROM itself... NOT the SOURCE code! AND to that fact, its like 2-3 version off from release already! So Firmware isnt even up-to-date!!!
Latest Source: 8-15-2011... like i said... months since kernel source release... maybe read whole thing next time? then answer?
And, probably hasnt been moved because its NOT ONLY for the TF201 but has merit and reason to exist in the TF101 section... Want an example? go to the HD2 section for android dev and count how many OTHER device's Kernel source release's there are there... NO REASON to move it given its possible use in the TF101
