i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.

thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.

Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?

Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!

Your bootlooped...if you can get into cwm wipe all three and flash a rom thats compatible with the version of cwm you have installed. Or odin back to stock and start over...

yes i am aware. did however make a backup of my current setup. i am stuck in recovery, but recovery still works. so i was able to make a backup and hopefully i can restore at some point. also, i had been rooted earlier and immediately made a tb backup of my apps. all is not lost

Ok, so I'm kinda new to the whole rooting, recovery, etc, but after successfully rooting my phone last week, I felt like trying to do something simple like putting on Community Rom or a different boot-up animation. I followed this thread for Community Rom:

Which then references other links to download the files necessary to flash the Community Rom to the Fascinate. Problem is, I cannot get 'Update.zip' from this link:

The update.zip link goes to a 404 not found page, so I can't finish the rest of this.
What I have done so far is installed ODIN on my PC and flashed Clockworkmod, though its not the same one I see referenced on XDA....the filename is
"cwm-recovery-ALL-3-30-FIX". Would this make an difference at all? I got it on my phone and it works when I boot into recovery, but it gives the stock blue screen and not the CWM screen (which I understand should be red) and I guess this is because I don't have Update.zip or something, so I can't flash anything using CWM at the moment.
I did find an 'update.zip' file somewhere (I really don't remember where now), and I put this on the root of my sdcard, but when I go into record and select 'Apply sdcard/update.zip' it shows that it's trying to do something (a progress bar moves across the screen very quickly), but then I get a triangle with an exclamation mark inside and the Android underneath it and nothing else happens. I left it for at least 5 mins and still nothing happened. The only way I can get back to the phone normally is to pull the battery out, put it back in and reboot the phone from the stock recovery.
Can someone help me out? Do I have a crap 'Update.zip' file and if so where do I get a good one from?
My specs for my phone are:
Hardware ver. I500.04
Firmware ver. 2.2.1
Basband ver. S:i500.04 V.ED01
Kernal ver. 2.6.32.9
Build number: SCH-I500.ED01

Update.zip is not needed, the cwm replaces the stock recovery in the phones flash memory

You already have cwm on your phone and the recovery 3-30 file is fine, download comm rom and it put on the root of your phones sd card (ie.not in a folder)...if you download it right from your phone it will be in a file that your downloads will be in..most likely tapatalk download, download, or downloads... the point is you want to be able to find it easily.boot into recovery and
Do a factory data reset, also wipe cache, and go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache . After doing those three things locate the comm rom file and install..reboot and enjoy!

You use to have to use update.zip but that is not the case anymore...and since you didn't flash anything after recovery you will have to re-do it, so if u did not already download the com rom file you will have to boot up...download comm rom...(i recommend the one with the otb kernel because you can overclock and undervolt with the voltage control app), pull the batt, odin recovery...that 3-30 recovery file is what works for me, put the batt back in and boot directly into recovery at this point I would suggest going to backup and restore and doing a nandroid back up btw power button is accept and menu button is go back...this willsave your phone exactly like it is now just in case things get screwy you will have a point to go back to ( but do not try to restore that back up in the future with out first disabling the voo doo lag fix) after your nandroid is done ,wipe data/cache/dalvik, navigate to wherever your comm rom zip is...install reboot and done...this process will take a few minutes and it's important to be patient...if you are fully stock as if right now you will hear a robotic lady saying stuff as your phone boots up...this is all normal and what you want to hear..once it reboots you can start playing around and setting it up the way you like it
One more suggestion is to use titanium backup and back up all of your apps prior to flashing and after your flash just restore all the apps...not data..i also export all of my contacts to the sd card not g mail cause I've lost contacts before so I just export to sd..flash and import them..that's what works for me...good luck..happy flashing!

Thanks efan, that worked perfectly this time. I now have Comm Rom on my phone and like you said, didn't need update.zip at all.
Edited as I thought I was having problems after with Android Market, but its fine now.
Ok so i downloaded rom manager and selected the top option flash clockworkmod recovery and picked my phone ( im already rooted by using the one step click root) and then i picked install rom from SD card and picked my room (which is Bi-winning v3) and my phone turned off and rebooted and went into the samsung recovery screen i tried to reinstall packages but gave me a error , i even tried the "all clockworkmod" recoveries and no luck same thing happens boots me up to the samsung recovery.
Does any one know what am doing wrong or what i can do to fix this problem?? thanks in advance and im still on my stock android os have't changed anything.
First, you need to start with a clean SD card. Then, open ROM Manager, flash cwr etc. etc. When it is finished downloading, power off the phone and reboot into recovery. From there (this is where the clean SD card is needed) then hit "reinstall packages, then hit reboot. This should bring up the iconic green text. reply if there are any problems.

hmm so do i need to clean my sd before i flash cwr or do i do it when i reboot my system?? from the android recovery screen??

Just download that update.zip he referenced (that I put there), and flash it.. instead of using Rom Manager.
it will root and install CWR for you.

i highly suggest you learn how to use ODIN in the Vibrant Bible. If you're doing anything that has to do with rooting and flashing your phone, be sure you know how to revert back to stock. You WILL NEED TO at some point or another or find out what if feels like to own a brick.

So, disclaimer. I'm an idiot today. Don't mind me.
So today I decided to go to jt's CM7 from ComRom 2.1 (non gingerbread)
Backed up everything, made a nandroid, wiped everything installed cwm 3.x.
Went and started to flash CM7. That didn't exactly like me too much as it went into a 45min long bootloop saying that it failed. No big deal. Nows the fun part. Rewiped everything, started to reinstall the ComRom. That didnt like me either, it says that it cannot mount Cache/recovery/log etc. So I thought. Okay, well I can always ODIN!

OK! Ignore above, used odin so now im on stock eb01 but still when i use odin to flash cwm 3.0.2.8x it still says it cannot open or mount cache/recovery/log and recovery/last_log.
At this point, I just want to get it so I can nandroid back to where i was on comrom.

What I did, ODIN the atlas2.2 and ebo1 Froyo package, boots up to stock fine no problem.
Attempted to flash CWM 3.0 in ODIN. flashes fine.
3 finger salute. doesnt boot, have to hold it for about a second then cwm just pops up saying it cant mount recovery.
Then I re ODINd eb01, deleted all voodoo, cwm, update.zip etc from sdcard.
re tried to flash cwm 3.0
same thing.

New ; odin's dl09, OTA'd up to current. What steps should I take next given my issues with CWM?
By deleting the file named clockworkmod on your sd card, you most likely deleted all of your nandroid backups. unless you backed up you sd card to your computer, im pretty sure they are gone. Im sorry. As far as the rest of your problems... I know a stock kernal will overwrite clockworkmod every reboot.

I did back up everything, made sure of that haha. So I should try reflashing a kernal? or would that have been included in the ODIN package/ OTA updates I did?

there may have been a kernel in the ota updates, the problem us you need a non stock kernel..stock ones over write recovery in every boot
My suggestion....
odin eb01 with the atlas 2.2pit and repartition checked.
Fully boot after eb01 flash
Odin cwr 3-30-all and immediately three finger boot into cwr....wipe everything
Flash cm7 build 7/4 completely reboot
Use the power menu to access recovery...this time it will be cwr 4.x.x.x flash the
Cm7 build your want with no wiping, thats what works for me

I believe I attempted that last night at home, I will definitely try again after I am out of work. Would you happen to have a link to download of cwr 3-30-all?
Also, would I be correct in the assumption that same steps would apply to ComRom installation.
Also too, I am currently on the ED04 non-rooted stock OTA. Do same rooting methods that I used way back on dl09 still apply?
Sorry for the multiple idiotic questions, just much different this time around do to the inability for CWM (either 2.5 or 3.0) to be able to locate/mount the cache/recovery/log.
Would that have to do with Root? thats my main concern is getting into CWM for it to say it cannot mount. After this point I have it reboot system and it does not boot up again. It boots into CWM immediately. So it is unable to bot back into the actual phone mode. So then I reflash dl09 or eb01 in ODIN and start over.

rooting has no effect on wheather or not recovery (cwm) sticks, its the stock kernel that is overwriting it as soon as you boot. com rom 2.0 comes with a kernel in the flash so if you do this exactly you'll be on comrom rooted with recovery
The steps for going to com rom would be the same this method may be overkill but it should get you cleared up....you said you odin'd ebo1 and the atlas pit before in your previous post,so im going to assume you know how to properly get into download mode and what do, and not do in odin, so down load cwr 3-30-fix all here, and save it on your pc in your odin folder

I definitely know my way around odin and recovery haha thank you very much for the help. I'll try it out once I am out of work and let you know how it goes. I was doing just that only with cwr 3.0 not the fix all. so hopefully that does the trick. Hopefully I wont be seeing and mount cache errors.
So I did use the recovery-all last night to no avail, still says that it cannot mount certain items.
I have to three finger salute it, then let go after a while for it to boot to CWM, then it cannot mount cache:recovery/command and recovery/log and dev/block/st111
Also when trying to wipe data it cannot mount datadata
Then I do reboot system now and it reboots to CWM with same errors.
EDIT : Found an ODIN for EC01 ComRom 2.0
Going to try that out and see what happens.
I'm an idiot. I realized I kept ODIN'ing pit with CWM, aka, BAD idea. All fixed and running.

Lol glad to hear your up and running...I've had my share of idiotic moments and lucky our phones are pretty brick proof...and now we can add to the list that using a pit file and trying to odin cwr while it won't allow your phone to work..... you can still recover even from this with out perma-bricking!

go to rom manager and click boot to recovery or something like that, should take you to red or green recovery
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
install rom/file from sd and go down to project v then yes
let it install
go to advanced
wipe dalvik and fix permissions
reboot
leave it for 10 min (dont touch anything)
reboot again
Nope. When I boot to recovery, I get the same screen as if I choose install rom from SD card.
There's nothing about install from SD card on that screen.
Any other ideas?

No. why do I have to do that? I don't have the install zip from sdcard at all. Am I even on the right screen?

you need to do that to be able to get into clockwork recovery i think

3e stock is the issue. Backup. Odin to jfd. Flash the update. Zip, no need for rom manager. Much easier.
Check the noob guide in my signature.
Write, that's a pain. How do I just flash the zip once I'm back on jfd?
Odin, root, flash takes 10 minutes.
Start downloading the files, while you wait read my guide to find the easiest method.

You have to reinstall package (you may need to do reinstall package twice)...then you will see more options...

Ok. Got CWM to come up and choose to install my zip.
Says Installing: SDCARD: Project_V_06.......

Been that way for a couple of minutes.
I think something is wrong. It's definitely just stuck there.
EDIT: I did a battery pull, then back into recovery and the ROM is installing now.
I guess it wasn't such a pain. My wife will kill me if I screw this up.
I guess that I figured once I went to JFD, there's really no going back, but if I flashed the ROM directly from the 2.2 ROM I was on, it was a major process anyhow and it wouldn't have been any easier going back.
Waiting for ROM to boot and will then let it sit idle for 10 minutes per instructions.
I really hope this works better than the stock ROM and doesn't have any showstopper bugs or I'll never hear the end.
And hope that my Titanium backup gets everything pretty much back the way it was.
I did backup TWLauncher with Titanium. Can I restore that to this ROM to get my home screen icons back or am I going to need to rebuild my home screen icons because it's a different TWLauncher version?

I'm also on V. Strongly suggest his trigger theme on top. If you have not amazing signal, try the ka6 modem. Only issue with V, I can't stand the stock browser after having the cm7 browser.
I use adw ex, no clue what versions are there.

Yes, I didn't even back up system apps. I've gone through that on my Droid X and you get the sync thing to never go away.
Maybe I'll try that KA6 modem. I flash that via ODIN, right? Why KA6, in particular?
I think we'll stick with the stock theme
Don't try ka6 until you feel you need to. There are flashable versions.
No stock keyboard included!?
Any way to get that back? I'm sure she's used to using the keyboard the way it was and won't want to learn an alternative keyboard.
I ran bloater and found samsung keyboard and wifi calling there and it says it's installing, but they don't.

I have a rooted Vibrant (I think, the superuser permission icon is there, from the market I downloaded "SU update fixer" and "BusyBox"because somewhere online it said I should) I updated to froyo when it originally came out and was told I had to go back to eclair to root which I just did 3 days ago.
My problem is I can't get clockwork recovery on my phone so I can flash a rom. I've downloaded heimdall and went through the steps (when I'm in the command prompt screen I get the error that it is not recognized as an internal or external command. Also "rom manager" Google market link does not recognize my phone, so I can't just download the app directly. It doesn't even come up when I search the market on my phone.
Another question, I thought once I rooted I'd be able to delete some bloatware from the device? How do I do it? Do I need to flash a rom before I can do this?

Try this (Use method B) it works like a charm every time.
also note that you dont have to install a custom rom if you prefer not to.
if you just flash the zip and reboot to clockworkmod then your set.

There are two options here. Choose which is best for you, before you start.
ROOT ONLY METHOD:
A – This is an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs.
INSTALL CLOCKWORK RECOVERY AND FLASH A ROM THAT WILL GIVE ROOT ACCESS (MY PREFERRED METHOD):
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.

A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
NOW DOWNLOAD THE ROM YOU PLAN TO FLASH

Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/

Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4.
In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5.
It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now...

Thanks a million!! I'm now running Android 4.2.2 using CM 10.1.3.
My only problem is I seem to have lost my apps/contacts/etc. I don't have android market anymore. Would you know how I can get my apps back??? I see my backups (reware) in the file section (external sd) but I don't know how to get them.

if you backed up with Titanium backup you'll need to restore them with that, but to do so you'll want to have the market to download titanium backup.
So to get the google apps back you'll need to flash the gapps package (Cyanogen mod doesn't include them by default)
here is the full list for all versions of android: http://goo.im/gapps
but I beleive youll want this one for 4.2.2: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip

Ok so for 3 days phone worked like a charm. Today phone turns of on its own and goes to the cwm recovery mode then stays there. I removed the battery,same thing. Bottom of recovery screen says "no file contexts". Tried wipinguser data still nothing. Please help

Ok so for 3 days phone worked like a charm. Today phone turns of on its own and goes to the cwm recovery mode then stays there. I removed the battery,same thing. Bottom of recovery screen says "no file contexts". Tried wipinguser data still nothing. Please help
Odd, I've really only seen that when you try to install a carrier ota update over a custom ROM
Flash the ROM and then the gapps files again in that order and you should be fine though you'll need to restore your apps with titanium backup again afterward.

For about 6hrs yesterday, I tried using odin to get back to original stock(eclair) it has not worked. I get a pass each time but the phone does not reboot, at first it just relooped the vibrant screen, now vibrant screen flashes then screen goes black. When the phone is plugged in the battery icon just reloops. I noticed that when odin was done the beginning of the recovery screen had a red "data wipe failed" within the normal yellow text then it would turn off and go to the battery screen again. I've used several versions of odin none have worked. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I'm afraid it may be dead forever although I've read many posts that state that android phones are almost impossible to brick. I'm at my wits end.

I had that happen once but it was because of a lagfix.

luckily the Vibrant is famously hard to completely brick.

Thanks again, I've been at it for a few hours now, it goes into recovery but does not respond to my power button to reboot. Also beginning screen now says 1900. As though it flashed a different version.

the initial odin file you are flashing is a modified 19000 file.
if the 19000 kernel is flashed then the hardware buttons will be mixed up.
dont worry though if you got that far its good dont worry about using the power button to reboot.
just pull the battery.
then you'll need to use Odin again to flash the original android 2.1 files again.
this time it should go through and you'll be back where you started.
from there you'll need to re-root and flash the ROM of your choice.

Ok so I pulled the battery, went back into download mode and tried to flash the original android files. When I did that I ended up with the stuck vibrant screen again. or if its plugged in the battery icon just keeps restarting. I've tried several versions of odin, nothing seems to work. I just keep going back and forth flashing the 19000 and trying to flash the original 2.1. I keep ending up at the same place. Every time I go through the odin process I always get a pass, but the original files do not flash. Again I appreciate all your help, I'll keep at it for a day or so but I'm losing the bit of patience I have left.

try following the steps below, I added the links for the files you'll need (hopefully the links are working, I cant test them from work unfortunately)
note that the first odin file is an 19000 file and the volume buttons on the phone will be reversed and menu selection will not work in recovery.
if you need to reboot you can use ADB or just pull the battery.
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file. HERE
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'. HERE
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.

Yup, This was the order that I followed to the T. So step #7 was what got 19000 on my phone. It never errored out or rebooted just went to 19000 recovery screen and stays there. I took the battery out, put it back in, went back to download mode, I downloaded and tried to flash the True stock 2.1 and that's what got me to just a Vibrant screen. I'm not sure if my PC(windows XP) is the problem though this is the same PC I used to root and flash cyanogenmod, or if something inside the phone is messed up. I did notice during an earlier recovery the words "wipe data fail" in red among the normal yellow text. This may be the cause of the repeated bad flashes of the stock 2.1. I'll keep trying when I get off today and tomorrow but I may have to bite the bullet and get a new phone on Thurs.

You might have already tried this but you might try leaving it at the vibrant logo for a good 10 minutes.
I find that when I odin back to stock it takes a bit longer than usual to boot.
If it stays stuck you might try pulling the battery and try booting to recovery (if Odin was successful back to stock it should be the stock recovery)
if it lets you into stock recovery we will at least know the odin flash worked.
