There is thread on the Evo 3D CDMA development section by "freeza" about "dissecting and Modding a rom". There is some good tips about where and how to get set up. After that - read, read, read, learn, read and try until you get it right. Making a rom is difficult and will take time to learn properly.

Try looking at this:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Da_G's_6.5_Kitchen
You can download the related app and mess around. Unfortunately creating your own ROM requires a lot of knowledge- and most of it you'll have to figure out for yourself.
ok i have downloaded this kitchen but there is a problem , i have a lot of 6.5wm roms but the kitchen dose not load any of them and i have downloaded several other roms but also non of them is loaded it gives me an error saying that i have to spacifay the ext buled 1st but i can't and when i load one of the 2 roms that comes woth the kitchen it loads and spcofay the ext aoutomatacly so can any body plz help
Read the tutorial and follow the steps exactly. You will have create the EXT and a few other folders manually before you can load the ROM

[Q] [HELP] How to create update-script?

Hope I've posted in the correct section
Hi guys,
How to I go about creating an update-script? Over the past few days I'be been cooking my own ROM (it's a port from the Incredible S dumps) and creating the update script is the last step before I test the ROM out and if it works, uploading to the Android Development forum.
I'm using a Nexus One btw.
So, could any assist me?
Thanks,
redbullcat
I tried to make my own the other day, and I found a helpful thread on the commands you can use for it. Ill try and find the link then update here.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641223
This one is for update-scripts but I imagine there's not that much difference, correct me if I'm wrong. There does seem to be other commands for the same things in updater-script.
Another suggestion is to look at existing updater-scripts and see what makes them tick. They are quite self explanitory, nice and easy to read.

You can take an update script from another custom rom, i think.
Don't forget to sign and do nandroid.

You could also do this, but depending on what the custom rom changes you may need to change things in there, maybe not.

Firstly, This is a development forum. This topic does not belong here.
Second, use common sense, topic titles are supposed to be descriptive of topic. Putting silly things like "help needed", "help please" etc etc does not help anybody browsing forum.

Well I dont give a sh1t what YOU "want".
And yes I do keep creating the same message, that is because people keep posting questions and general topics in dev sections. I will continue to inform the people who do this until they stop or XDA intervenes and ups the post count restriction to something realistic or completely restricts posting rights to dev user groups. And FYI I was helping, if the OP posts in correct place and in correct way they would get better replies.
@ OP
Wasn't personal, Its just that if you post in right section and with a accurate descriptive title you are more likely to get a quicker and more relevant response(s) instead of ones like mine or from the "prophet" dude.
Also posting your email address on a public forum is a very bad idea. Not just because of general people seeing it but because of bots that crawl places like this for email addresses for spam/malware purposes.
Sorry to have a word here, but TheATHEiST IS right. I registered some days ago and i had to watch a video telling me that i am a noob and should keep my mouth shut until i really know what i can, should and must say. I try to follow that rule. This forum is really straight over the usual users mind - a forum from developers to developers/experienced users. It really makes me kind of sick to see ppl spamming the whole day their questions (especially into new threads) like in a ****ing AOL newsgroup. Here is no place for this. [/sorry off]
To the thread starter: I damaged my phone 2 days after i got it (around 2 weeks ago). But usually you can just flash and try again. Next time make a backup before - there are tons of possibilities. And read a lot here before acting. That really helps.
So flash again (as suggested already) and follow the steps given.

Develop my own rom

Hey guys, i was just wondering if i could make my own rom, or at least compile my personal build of an existing rom, i d love in the future to make a hole working rom with things i like from all roms, but i really dont know where to start.
i dont know much about programming, but i m learn quickly. i d just finished my first year studying sistems engeneering but im still a noob about programming so i d love some help, where to start how to build what language do you use, what IDE, etc, how to compile etc.
at least i ll love to start downloading the source of any of the wonderful roms in this forum and try to compiled it myself, but really i dont know where to start.

sorry dont want to be rude but i dont want to try a custom kitchen, i already read about them a lot and they actually dont require any skill or knowledge, they re great to build your rom without knowing anything but they actually dont teach anything in the process.
dont get me wrong, they re amazing. but i want to learn how to build, compile, starting coding and maybe one day be a full developer. that kitchen d only make me feel that im doing something while actually im just pressing keys and moving some files. and getting a rom in return

Today i succesfully set up a ubuntu virtual machine and now its on repo sync(pacman rom). Today ll make my first build. I also installed eclipse and sdk, started remembering some c basic coding and maybe some day i ll start with java.
My next plan is to learn how to compile the rom with apolo kernel, instead of standard pacman kernel directly from source.
