Bypass "Your device isn't compatible with this item" - HTC EVO 3D

Today I discovered how to bypass this. I guess its a glitch or whatever... just clear defaults for market. Look for the app on Google for the market link. Follow it using market to make sure its the one. Go back to Google. This time follow it using browser.(before this make sure your not signed in on market.android.com) and click install. It will pop up asking you to sign in. Click sign in. Then it will ask again to use browser or market. This time hit market and it will be at accept & download... just tap that and it will start downloading...
I am running kushdecks ics. Not sure if it has anything to do...
Also don't try on non free apps.
Just found it curious I guess.

what are you talking about? installing apks away from the market from your sd card?

no. you know how sometimes you get links to the market and when you go to the market on the phone it says that your device isn't compatible? well that.
just open the link using your browser on the phone. then hit install it'll ask to sign in. when you press the sign in button. it asks you to either use the browser or the market app. hit market and just download...

Blah, they must have fixed it. Grrrrrrrr.....I want two games from there sale! >_<

Its only for free apps or games... if it has a price it gives an error

Know of any good apks to try this with?
Sent from my PG8610000 using xda premium

Try this: (note: only works on rooted phones)
Download this app https://market.android.com/details?id=com.wemobs.android.lcdresolution (free from the market) & reset your screen resolution back to stock.
Next, Force Stop Market & then Clear Data in Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications.
Reopen Market, accept the TOS, & try to get your app!
I had this same problem & this fixed it for me. Seems the market checks your device's screen resolution to see if the app is compatible @ that resolution or not & if it's not supported by the app, you get the "Your device is not compatible" message.
Hope this helps.

That method didn't work. :'(

I'm trying to download and install a couple of 3D apps from Market and I get this stupid message..
The apps are definitely compatible and are listed in the EVO 3D apps thread....
Isn't it possible to change the device info in the system ini to stop this problem...?

thanks, Im a bit of a noobie
where is the build.prop and what exactly should I change it to? I want to install 3D apps so I should change to xxx3D?
I just noticed I cant even install a plain notepad app from MArket "Your device isnt..." Is that because of the QHD resolution..? Also screenshot app got "Your device isnt..."
This android market is a pain in the but...almost as restrictive as iphone market place...
EDIT: I found build.prop and changed ro.product.model=LG P920 Optimus 3D but still ""Your device isnt..." message.
What else should I change...?

It worked for me
Thank you

I've gone back to stocj rooted rom and everythings dandy....no more issues...

Hi all, just a quick report on this issue- using CM7 copes, android 2.3.2 booted from SD card on hd2 dual boot with WP7 in nand.
I was having the incompatible issue fairly often, so I installed "LCD Resolution (Root)" free download from the Market (it allowed me to install that one) but I think you have to donate $.99 for it to work. Then, in this order, force close Market (if running), delete the data, then launched LCD Resolution and reset my resolution from 180 default to 160, hit apply but did not check always boot into this (an option), then the app rebooted the phone. After the reboot I checked the resolution- it was at 160- opened Market, accepted terms, searched for the app I wanted and was able to install it without a problem.

I just read a review of the LCD Resolution app and the reviewer said the app was saying all market apps were incompatible until he reverted to the default settings for the display

same problem on lizi y4 (gooapple v5)
I also have so many problems with "device isn't compatible with this version" in google play. I have a Lizi Y4, which is same model as Gooapple V5.
I tried installing lcdresolution, but cannot, as device isn't compatible .
What are the checks that google play makes? Is it indeed giving me this message due to density, or does it do other checks too?
Regards, JK.

Cannot find some apps in Market

I've had this problem since day one, and now it's getting irritating.
I just cannot seem to find some apps in the market. Like Stupid zombies. I found the game via AppAware market, followed the link there, but market says it cannot be found.
I'm running Froyo 2.2. I doubt so many apps are optimized for Gingerbread, because thats the only reason I can think of.

It has something to do with tmobile and with our particular phone certain apps just wont work and the market wont let us see is for exaple i wanted a app called can knockdown that my friend has on his Nexus one and he can still see it in the market but i couldnt so i downloaded it off a alternative app market and it still wont install i have been told that if you take out your sim card it will work but it didnt work for me
This is due to Carrier or Country restrictions. This is your answer:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6gxudncfxz19aai
An app called Market Access. This app emulates to the android os (i.e. the market) that you are on another network, therefore you can download other things that ou could not view earlier.
This app requires rooting.
To use it, clear you cache (using something like CacheMate) and run the market access. Backup your current carrier code and choose another carreir.
After the successful emulation. Run the market and enjoy the stuff.
After you finish. re-emulate to your original carrier code using the market access Restore option. And its better to clean tha cache afterwards.
Hope this helps.
Market Enabler.. Similar app as mentioned above.
Okay so I tried Market Enabler. It does change my carrier since I can see the currency change, but I still can't see the app. I'll try a few more carriers.

[Q] Many Apps Saying "Incompatible With Your Device"

I'm running the CM7 nightly roms on my NC, and I've recently noticed a number of apps no longer listed as compatible from the market. Angry Birds for example, does not have the install button on the previous market, and on the new 3.1.X market actually has a message at the top of the window that says incompatible.
The web version of the market has my nook grayed out in the install window.
My build.prop is the stock CM7 one, no hacking.
What gives?
I had the same problem and believe the is some other posts for this.
My fix was:
1. diable wifi
2. uninstall the market update
3. backup and uninstall market updater with titanium backup
Sent from my NookColor
My fix is:
set resolution to 160dpi (using LCD Density app or hacking build.prop) and clear Market data
???
profit!!!
Many apps which I have downloaded from market before are saying that they are not available in my country. Whats the point excluding countries? Do the dev wanna make money or not?

1.disabled market update..use old store

3. cleared cache and data from store app and from Google services frameworks.

I just installed cm7 7.0.0 stable along with the gapps and it came with the new market what would be the best way to allow me to download the tablet version of apps along with google maps/earth right now they say incompatible

Some countries do not have paid app support. Sometimes the dev just likes to keep stuff in the US to not have any problems with money conversions, import/export laws, etc.

Hi, I edited my build.prop manually and changed the fingerprint/description to match a Nexus S using:
ro.build.description=soju-user 2.3.4 GRJ22 121341 release-keys
ro.build.fingerprint=google/soju/crespo:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/relelease-keys
rebooted, cleared cache, dalvik, in cwm and booted and everything shows up and works - facebook, netflix, etc...
I just #commented out what was there and added the lines below, saved, rebooted and viola!
Im on CM7 nightly 08312011 on my Nook Color, hope that helps!
PS. I havent messed with the market updater/etc.. Im using the 3.13(cant remember off hand) version of the market posted also, everything showed up before n after.

I also set dpi to 160. I didn't see any fixed app info until I took my Nook to a wifi network I've never used before and ran Google Market; it showed (for the first time after autoupdating to the newer GM a few weeks ago) the accept/deny conditions window. After clicking accept, GM started showing not only the usual apps, games, books sections but also movies. Half my apps which weren't showing updates before showed available updates. Google Market itself updated to the latest edition, still showing Movies.
I'm not sure if using the NC at a brand-new location did something to market data, but if the dpi fix isn't working I would recommend trying (the market data clear).

Market seems to be fixed, most likely on Google's server end. A number of us have not needed to clear market data for several days now. I'm going on 4 days with fully functioning market at 160 and no data clearing. Joenathane is experiencing the same. It is possible that this is what angomy experienced albeit in an indirect fashion.
I did not notice till I flashed the newest gapps (0823), so can't say for sure why it is working. Would suggest those clearing market data before opening the app to stop doing so for a while and see if the apps list stays solid.
incompatibility in market
after trying everything, i also found that (atleast for me) if i cleared data for the market, that fixed it.
thanks,
Dagnus

Words with friends app?

Hey guys...anyone get Words With Friends to work on Nook color cm7? I can download it from the market, but then everytime you go to play it, it says there is an update available (In the app itself, not in market). But, then it brings me to the market and says its already installed. any ideas?
I had it installed and it's asking if I want to update. I changed my lcd density to 160, but Market does not recognize my Nook any more.
got it! Followed the instructions on setting lcd density to 160, clear Market data.
Don't try to update words with friends from the app itself. Go into market, accept, search for words with friends and select update.
when i search for words with friends in market, i don't even get a "Download" button or "update" like you usually would. I had to download the apk because market wouldn't let me install :-/
sigh still can't figure out how to get it to work. Anyone get it working?
Mine works fine.
But, I'm using the old market....
Cleared data, uninstalled updates, then renamed the marketupdater.apk to marketupdater.apk.bak
I suppose I may be missing out on something using the old market, but it's been working fine for a couple days for me. No apps are locked out. The apps aren't automatically updating, but if you go into the market and select "my apps" it shows you what needs updates and you just have to manually click to update... Not a huge drawback to me for being free of the device check in the new market.

Noticed yesterday, that i'm not able to download anything from market...was always stucking on "...start downloading".

I am seeing the same issue as well. I am using Market v3.1.5. A couple days ago in My Apps I was showing 123 installed applications. Today I am only seeing 94. When I do a search for an application that should be showing in My Apps, the search will return the result and shows that I have the application installed. But when I go into the app on the Market. it is telling me that in a yellow ribbon on top "Your device is not compatible with this item".
One application in particular that this is happening to me on is Norton Mobile Security. And because the Market is now telling me that this application is not compatible on my device, my paid subscription is no longer being recognized, taking me from the Full version to the Lite version. A second example of an app is Astro File Manager.
The Market App sucks period! Its the buggiest piece of crap on my phone lol.
Possible fix/ work around
I have had this problem on my HTC Hero - it occurred on v3.1.5 of the Market, but not on 3.0.26 and earlier.
I found that when I changed the dpi settings on my display back to the standard setting and then cleared the market data (from Settings - Applications - Market) that it worked again.
If you have used Droid Tweaker or similar to change display settings, then try changing it back to standard - which I believe is 240 for the HTC Evo 3D (correct me if I'm wrong!)
For those who like manually editing stuff, the line in question is found in /system/build.prop and looks like this:
ro.sf.lcd_density = ###
Once you have set it back to standard, reboot the phone, and then clear the market data as above. If this works, then you have your answer - I have got nowhere with Google and found this out from their forums. It seems to affect a fair number of different devices and users.
I have 2 gmail accounts and somehow the market was working off the wrong account. check menu > accounts and make sure it is on the correct account.

[HOW-TO] Install apps not showing up in Marketplace

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?
