Camera in 2.3.3 vs 2.1 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Are there any major differences concerning the picture / video quality between these two firmwares?
Sent from my X10i

2.1 vs 2.3.3 vs 2.3.4 vs 2.3.5 vs 2.3.7 (except 1.6) = No difference if camera work properly on all versions.

Hum, I thought SE "improved" the camera with every new firmware release.
In that case, I think I'll go back to 2.1.
Sent from my X10I

2.3.3 is way better then 2.1.

The camera itself doesn't improve it still 8.1 mp if thats what u mean
Edit: yeah gb is better than eclair thats why it's an upgrade. It ain't gonna improve resolution though.

well all i know is that camera focus speed in 1.6 is the fastest so far

Improved camera doesn't mean only more mpx.U have ****ty 5 mpx cams(HTC Hero) and much better 5 mpx like one on Samsung galaxy s.(this is only example).Somethimes in OS upgrades developers improves camera as well(better colors, less noise etc.).

That's what I was talking about.
I just asked because I read somewhere that 2.1 is better in camera quality.
Is it true?
Sent from my X10i

All I can say is are u guys expecting our phone to have 16mp camera by time ics arrives or somethin? Os update isn't gonna make ur camera have higher resolution. It just improves ui and how it implemented, things like that. I suppose with advance in tech it could make image clearer but the resolution ain't gonna change.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App

Everyone knows that the resolution won't change with software improvement since it's hardware related. But colour management, contrast, detail, etc. can, and that's what my question is about.

2.3 have faster focus speed~

camera feature change from eclair to gingerbread
what I know is gingerbread removes the smile detection and some other feature in xperia x10 which eclair have and works correct

Same image quality without some options(like smile detect)

I can't find any difference between the stock camera app quality from 2.1 to 2.3....

Because they have same quality, nothing changed.

I just flashed back to 2.1 and this is one of the reasons. The video camera on 2.3 sucks, I can barely hear my recordings, on 2.1 its back to being nice and loud.

Any good camera apps for xperia x10

Am looking for a good camera app for xperia x10 any ideas
you didn't look very far..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=51041912
anyone tried fast camera and whats it like
camera 360 is a good one. same as FXcamera and Retrocam
my w995 takes better pics than my x10 ?
I swear by vignette great pictures and also enables auto flash for the phone.
Vignette, for my purposes absolutely the best
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
Anyone else has a problem with camera 360 where it says your phone has no zoom function?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yes, I do.
Also have this with Vignette (I downloaded the demo to try).
They both seem to be superior to the stock app, however without zooming functionality, they don't make full use of their potential.
Vignette is the always best
Best Camera Option
Hy,im a newb on the site.
I have my Xperia X10i for about a year now,and i have almost everything done on it,started from 1.6,now here with all sorts of roms
i have from root to BL unlocked using latest kernels n basebands.
Personally,in my opinion, keeping stock froyo(2.1) is the best camera rom, because of the optimization...and then, best camera app i think is vignete....so far didnt find anything better.
Now im using M&Ms miui FXP kernel and i have to admit stock camera app is out of focus, hence, vignette is out of focus too..wether i use macro or any other mod...its so bad i need a revolver...and yesterday i rolled back to 2.1 froyo and the difference in macro is HUGE.now im trying to find some compromise.
1.Does any1 know if GB(2.3.3) has the same camera precision as older 2.1 froyo? i heard complaints with 720p recordings....
2.Can you use a mutual baseband between the 2?.Im pretty shure you can use 2.3.3 with .71 baseband, exactly the one that fxp kernel uses so you can "dual boot" via cwm the CAMERA ROM( some stock rom...) and your CUSTOM ROM(for normal use)
3.Can you mod 2.1 to work with .71 baseband???
Thanks to all dev`s who are working on these older phones even when theyre so outdated!!!<3
I am using HDR camera. It's worth of trying .

I think .71 would work only on 2.3.3 and not 2.1
I dont find my camera so out of focus. I am using cm7zmod and its working fine. I just compared pic between my X10 running cm7zmod and my dad's x10 running 1.6(donut lol).
The problem is you are using rom based on cm7 by fxp which has some problem with camera with focus I guess. You should use stock based roms which have original camera app/libs which is the best
btw 2.1 is eclairs not froyo

HDR Camera is awesome, I just wish my hands here more steady. I always get very slight smudges in the composite image due to jitters.
That said, I usually use Vignette with the 'image stabilisation' turned on. It doesn't do anything fancy other than use the motion sensor to wait until the phone's being held still enough to take the shot.
Vignette
It's the best for me.

[Q] best camera with zoom on a 2.2 rom

What'st the best camera on a 2.2 rom? The reason I am not trying out all the roms which I wish I could is cuz I am a college student currently needing a stable rom all the time and trying out them all the time will slow me down. 2.2 freeX10 is awesome but the camera on it has no zoom. which 2.2 rom has a zoom for the camera? If any of the roms don't, which rom will get it first. Unless thats a stupid question?
Same here (sorry, I don't have a 'subscribe' button...)
Sent from my X10i (2.2 beta 4) using XDA app
Get vignette from the market....zoom works on it, and its probably the best app for pictures and quality hands down. Im using the paid version right now on freex10....works awesome

Vignette seems to work just fine, thanks for that

rom for better camera

has anyone know , which Rom give a better camera than stock ROM?
wrong Section post to Q&A section please....
Use Erickwill's X10 EW JET ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941745
FreeX10 Beta 4 and Wolfbreaks CM 6.1.3 V4.5 are better quality than stock rom and stock modded camera app.

I don't think the CamCorder in 2.2 is any better than the one in 2.1.. But it is usable(sound is still kinda low quality).

I did several tests of the "optimized" semc camera and zdizdhu's beta4 camera, and here's what i found:
AOSP camera takes sharper photos
SEMC camera has better color contrast
SEMC camera has better video recording
AOSP camera has better focus on close shots
AOSP camera is MUCH faster than the SEMC version
i don see wat's the point u asking this.. it's all depends on the user.. jus try it up urself and make ur own judgement
do any of the AOSP cameras support zoom?

Nope. Most third-party camera-reliant apps are unsupported as well. Meaning most apps that use the camera won't work. Also AOSP cameras only support one resolution, so that's another limit

Camera resolution reduced to 3.6M pixels when upgraded to 4.0.4 on Mini Pro

just upgrade my Mini Pro to ICS 4.0.4 and root it using DragonClawsAreSharp's method (Thanks bro)
However, the original 5M pixels camera is reduced to 3.6M pixels in 4.0.4.
Anyone has the same problem?
1.Open camera
2.Press menu key, something will pop out
3.Choose resolution and choose 5 mp

How about macro in focus mode that was previously present in GB stock camera app?
It's gone in ICS stock camera. I can't focus small subjects..
If you selected auto scene recognition you can't change focus settings. Select normal scene.

I know that.
You can try it yourself. Choose Normal.
Now go to Focus Mode.
Macro was there in Gingerbread.
In ICS, no more macro..
I can't try, since i'm on a Mini with GB
But that sounds strange... nobody else complained about that, as far as I know.

Camera quality is same. I don't know why it would differ because it's the same 5MP shooter.. However software dependent things like focus time etc can vary.. As far my experience with all fw version is concerned, camera UI on gb was very user friendly. However camera focused faster in ics .587
That's all I can say.

I find camera focusing better in GB. Try taking pics of a tree from 8 feet distance using GB and ICS Rom's. Now check the image in original resolution, you can see GB images are sorta soft but the focus is good and details are also ok. But if you check the ICS captured image, you can see there is over sharpening, noise & out of focus areas in the image.
Well the video capturing quality was definitely better in GB than ICS...
About the camera... I consider both fine
Sent from my Smultron running CM10
Camera images on ICS are better-they are of larger size, hence less compression and better quality
Video was better on GB-GB had stereo sound and higher frame rate
ICS has mono sound
Thanks for the reply. Does editting media_profile.xml doesnt work when changing the channel from 1 to 2 for stereo?
