Idea For Next Prime - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Ever thought of a pad Without bezel border? Maybe that is why Acer and Apple's pad use such high resolution. They Fill the entire surface screen with Pixels!
The Ideal is to have Virtual bezel that will only go full screen when watching movies or dynamic bezel borders that depends on programs or environment.
just thought of it and think it's a good idea...

a) where would you put your hand when holding the device?
b) The transformer has a higher resolution than the iPad and >= any tablet that acer produces, so I don't have a clue what you are talking about there.

1) still has Bezel in main screen. only when watching movies the bezel will disappear. and u can still hold it, but won't effect it. That is what i mean by Dynamic bezel.
2) the new resolution will be 1920X1200, that is extreme packed density. So bigger area will result better yield in display and a seamless border. Like the new High end LED TV
Just a Thought, and thought it will be Different.
the resolution for the ACER Tergra 3 confirmed to have 1920x1200

I believe he's referring to the iPad 3 and Acer's upcoming 2012 tablet (that indeed will have 1920 x 1200 resolution): http://androidcommunity.com/acer-iconia-tab-a700-sends-photos-from-russia-with-love-20111229/
I'm not sure exactly what he wants out of a "virtual" bezel, but I'm pretty confident the trend will be towards smaller bezels.

I wonder if Tegra3 is powerfull enough for such resolution... The resolution is quite nice though - not need to worry about HDMI output because it's the same as your TV/LCD (apart from more pixels in height) etc.

1) I hope if they can add 2GB RAM to support window$ 8 and higher!
2) 3D screen

Virtual bezel would be interesting. But it would only work with an AMOLED screen. LCD screens when "black" draw too much power. Edge to edge display that has a 1/2 inch virtual bezel that could be controlled by the user...pretty crazy idea.

Do not want virtual bezel.
I have large, meaty hands. My pads wrap around the devices I am carrying. Already I have problems with touching the screen when I don't mean to because of this. And I do not want to change the way I grip things because my grip, while very gentle (after 12+ years working with military grade electronics), is quite secure.

>where would you put your hand when holding the device?
This is a pet peeve of mine wrt tablets. Why must we grip it with the thumb (on the bezel)? It puts a lot of pressure on the thumb, which means faster hand fatigue. Why not have a built-in (removable) handgrip at the back? Like this below:

I am pretty much pleased with Prime's display, dont need it any bigger than current size. Bezel size is also not that big, but the dynamic bezel would be a good innovation, if done right.
What I would really want in next prime is :
- 3g or LTE of some sort
- Wi-fi Direct (I am not sure if it can be enabled by s/w fix)
- Stereo speakers
- IR sensor (I know it is oldschool, but I like this thing on Sony's tablet S)
- Bluetooth 4.0 (I really dont know why I want it)
I am not so worried about USB 3.0, as I believe Wi-Di is the way to go. If future cameras or SD cards comes with built in Wi-Di, it should be able to send the pictures directly to the tablet, for editing and sharing.

Blue Angel modification without painting

Experimented with some material to update the BA it a bit.
I didn't want to use paint in any way. It is destructive and dirty work if done wrong, but then again very satisfying when done well.
This is what I came up with.
It is only an test, but it looks interesting I think.
Though it looks better in real life where you see the structure of the foil and the sharp details of the buttons and speaker.

What I used here is good quality self adhesive foil. In this case white with skin structure.
The art is patience and stretching the foil where needed with the proper tools.
Covering the buttons makes it more contemporary and somewhat less dated.
But if you like the chromed buttons then just cut and fold the foil to the inside.
-Buy quality foil. It will hold its form quiet well, and it comes in all kind of prints and structures.
-Remove the cover and the outer ring.
-Clean the parts you are going to covering very well.

-Cut the foil where needed
Very simple.., but effective.
Easy to replace.
And if you own it 10 years from now, it will have the original exterior.
Same thing goes for covering the charger.(If needed)
I made it white, but you can apply what ever colour or print you want.
The foil makes experimenting possible with colours very easy, without damaging the device.

Zip with pic seems to be broken. Can you fix it?
More BA mod Pics
Ok, lets try that again...
edit;
upload didnt work.
nope, still broken
Uploaded working pics of the test version.
i don't understand the adhesive foil. what is it?
@jeksparo'
adhesive:
Substance that sticks two surfaces together.
The glue on the back of the Foil
foil:
Thin layer of material. In this case an very thin petroleum based plastiek sheet. Like an sticker.
You can find it at your local DIY shop. But dont get the cheap one.
now, that finally the pictures are working i have to say it looks great. if my device's screws weren't that rusty, i would certainly take it apart and customize it myself, after seeing inspirational work like this and also other moddings, being done by forum members here. i'd have to think of buying a 2nd device anyways, for spare parts and because they can't get any cheaper, i hope i can make one case nice, like this.
Yes, your right about that. There still very usefull and fast enough to handle most if not all applications.
I use it still, though not as much as I used to for work. But its running WM 6(.5) very wel.
Checked it today, prices are Very low indeed. If you want one, now is the time. The 2020 is going for low prices aswell.
I am keeping mine a bit longer.
Thinking of getting an HD, or wait for the next version. No hurry.
same here, i love the hd, because i feel like it is the blueangel2009 it still has all the good features like a ginormous display and wi-fi and the candy bar shape but adds new features, the newer wi-fi standards, the 3g communications... plus a lot of other gimmicks and usefull stuff, but it is so incredibly expensive (also just like the BA in its days). some day, when the blackstone is outdated, maybe i'll get one then.
edit;
Correction: Apparently I mistaken the Touch Pro 2 for the new HD2.
The HD2 spec's 'are' amazing, include the 1Ghz cpu and WinMo 6.5. No HW-keyboard and still 65k colours.
.
Thanks for the corrections d

nice, are those buttons, that are fairly invisible (start to ok, calendar, contacts) still pressable? are they covered with some kind of adhesive plastic foil? how does the speaker sound then?
Yes, it all works fine.
The foil is very thin and does not hinder the action when pressing them.
Even beefed up the speakers sound quality. by approx. 17% by inserting
foam in the caverns behind and around it.
That is an nice extra!

DIY SGS2-based laptop-dock... stupid or not?

So I had this idea to make a little laptop dock for my phone.... not really all that practical but I kinda want to do it anyways.
The idea would be to have a wooden laptop; two flat pieces of some hard-ish wood with a hinge in the middle. Then I could route-out sections to sit a screen, keyboard and my phone in.
I found a chinese company that sells 7-inch LCD with HDMI input, but I'd rather find something like a 10-incher to be more netbook like. (if anyone knows of any, do let me know) Also, does anyone know what output resolutions the GS2 supports?
The phone would sit in the position of a trackpad, and actually act as one too. Above it would be a bluetooth keyboard, and in to top piece of wood is where the LCD would sit. Making the right type of hinge is important.. I thought it would be kinda fun if there were knobs on the side I could tighten to fix the lid at a certain angle. Pretty mechanically simple. I'd just have to somehow cut a channel to feed the hdmi from base to lid.
It would be kinda janky and steam-punkish but that's why I like the idea. Attached is an equally janky diagram I whipped up in like 10 seconds.
What do you think? Stupid project I shouldn't even try, or fun (albiet impractical) project?

Buy a Galaxy Tab... Honeycomb is much better optimized for larger screen sizes. Also, I would prefer aluminum over wood.

You have all the right ideas with the components. Just have somebody cnc you the case out of aluminum. And I wouldn't use the phone as a track pad, its not slippery enough. Figure out a way to use an external track pad, one that's painted so your finger glides across it.

You'll need power for the MHL/HDMI adapter.
If you're going to get that hackish - why constrain yourself with the GS2?
DIY a tablet using an LCD, a touchscreen, and a BeagleBoard or PandaBoard.
(PandaBoard is one of the ICS reference platforms by the way.)
Hey check outhttp://www.hackaday.com ive seen some cool builds on there. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME SITE FOR HACKS.
HaD is awesome. I don't think there are any DIY ICS tablets - but you can get nearly all of the necessary components with a PandaBoard and touchscreen + LCD.
Would the touchscreen + LCD work to make the GS2 like the soon to be Padfone from Asus? Where u plug the phone into a capacative/LCD screen and battery?

Someone here had the same problem? thnx!
Must be a "Monday Model"
I have mine for 4 weeks now and it is working fine. I'm quite tough with it and often pull the cover itself to get it off the Prime but no movement on the hinges.
In general I can just say for this price it is more then disappointing and it really is a dirt magnet. Not standing very stable. It is good to have something on the glass while you're not docked but I think you can do better for this price.
I wouldn't buy again.
My wife got her pink one the week of December 20th. It was broken, as you show 3 days later.
I got my black one in January, and it lasted about 6 weeks before failing in that the two small springs in the clips fell out.
It's by far the best functional cover, and by far the worst manufactured.
The Transleeve is generally well known to be a horrible accessory. Most people that have used one find it terribly disappointing especially since it is so expensive for what it is. It has been known to be incredibly fragile, and in many cases scratches up the backs of the tablet with normal use.
The US Amazon site tells the whole story in their reviews section:
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Sleeve-C...GTXS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331309815&sr=8-1
Most people use some kind of sleeve as a stand-in for the official Asus cover. Currently my personal favorite light screen protector is the Pad Sock:

Agree, but that sock does not hold the prime up at different angles. As I said, both of ours have broken, but they're the best design, just poorly executed.

The best design is the one that works for its intended purpose, not the one that is "coolest"
The Transleeve is intended to protect the tablet, and since the cover doesn't stick to the screen when you move the tablet around it can't offer consistent protection. Also because of a design flaw, every Transleeve will eventually scratch up the back of the tablet, causing damage which is the exact opposite of its intended use.
It is true that the sock can't hold up the tablet for video viewing. However the Transleeve doesn't do a great job of this either, the two angles that it holds the Prime at aren't great for video viewing since it angles the tablet up more than it needs to which allows the reflective screen to collect glare in normal lighting conditions. Most of the time I ended up holding the tablet anyway.
However If you need to prop the tablet up in order to make the keyboard more comfortable, the rolled up sock works perfectly for this function:

Look very great on the xperia P, could you provide a download link to the wallpaper?

Things look FAR better on the Xperia P. I tried to not bias myself in as many shots as possible by not identifying which phone it was before deciding which was better, and in every single one I found the Xperia to be the superior display.
I do hope they're able to either overcome the size limitation of the white magic displays for LCDs, or at least continue this work on future OLED displays.
Wow. the quality of the xperia p display is unreal. Wish the xperia s came with white magic as well

I have neither phone and stumbled onto this thread by accident so no ax to grind but there are some problems with comparisons of this sort in general and I have trouble accepting the statement as to bias quoted here.
As to the bias: it is impossible for me to not immediately know which phone display I'm looking at simply because the size difference of the image is painfully apparent in each and every instance with that of the Note being significantly larger. Even someone such as my self who "has no ax" can't avoid bias it's built into the human animal and can't be removed except by carefully designed double blind trials where there can be no hint of identity. No one could claim the conditions of the samples here are "double blind" in fact there is zero level of disguising which is which, ergo bias is an unavoidable consequence.
Regarding the comparison itself:No information is given regarding the displayed images. The resolution the original images were shot at is just one example of possible problems with the comparison. If the originals were shot at any other than the native resolution of the particular device in question it could appear distorted when scaled to the non-native display parameters. For example, if it were shot at qHD then blown to HD it would certainly suffer in the translation because the larger display simply can't offer more information than was contained in the original and might simply make any flaws larger and thus more apparent. A multitude of other artifacts could be introduced depending on conditions and even on the display of the screen of the device you are looking at the thread with.
In the image of the Headphones the words on the earpiece are very much clearer on the larger image on my computer screen ditto with the netting in the fruit image. On the other hand the colors and white balance appears to be better on my screen on the smaller images.
Is one better than the other? Very subjective.
Of course it's subjective. That's why we have some people out there who prefer to look of OLED displays to LCD, and vice versa. As for the comparison, yeah there are some pics where the size gives it away, but IIRC there were a couple where the sizes were similar. The pics aren't all loading properly for me now for some reason so I can't identify which one those are, but before making my post I did view the pics on both my tablet, 40" LCD TV and 55" LCD TV and in all cases I prefer the Xperia Ps screen.

Xperia Tab Z video camera & speakers?

I am about to purchase my second tablet. Well, if you count an older model rooted Nook as a first tablet, that is. Been doing TONS of research & I have it narrowed down to the Z, Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014), and new Kindle HDX.
At the moment, the Sony is leading. I wish the screen were a little higher def, but you probably can't even tell the difference at some point. My main questions are about the camera & internal speakers.
- Does the rear facing 8 MP camera have video capability? Is it 720 or 1080?
- Where are the speakers located? They are on the back of my Nook which makes them really hard to hear, especially if the unit is sitting flat.
I wish there was a "one size fits all" tablet, but it is a series of tradeoffs regardless of which direction you turn. Thanks in advance for any tips.

The rear facing camera can record in 1080p.
The tablet has 2 speakers, with four grills. Each speaker is located in the bottom corners of the device (consider the Sony logo in the right position, i.e. device in landscape). The grills are located in the side and bottom corners of devices.
Look at this image I made: The circle says more or less where the speakers are, and the arrows point to where the grills are.

It has both front and back facing cameras. Back one is 8 MP, 1080p. Front one is 2.2 Mp, 1080p also.
And the speakers are side facing, not rear.
I meant speakers, not cameras. Sorry about that
