[Q] Will android market counts if the app isn't downloaded from market? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to know but not sure how to proof it since the statistic in android market is not in real time. If I send my app to friends in apk file and they've installed, will android market count as net/device install? thanks

They need to have a rooted phone. They can use Titanium Backup and force attach the apps to the market

It will not specify how you installed the app. The app will just be shown as installed if you search for it on the market (and if you use Titanium Backup's Market Doctor, then you can attach it for it to show up in the "My Apps" section - for some apps).

There isn't any other way to attach the market link to the app, not using Titanium Backup. Once, My Apps section of Market stoped working, and Titanium Backup caused that.

what i curious is does android market know when a user installed the apk from an external source (same signature). if yes, can i say that the download number in market is the overall download numbers from all the sources of the app?

No, it will not know. No, it would not add to the download number in the market.

Speaking from first-hand experience, don't be so sure that either the Android Market or Amazon Appstore stop counting (or knowing) about apps just because they are side-loaded.
Our current app doesn't show an increase in downloaded users, but Google does report "active" users, and that number can differ from the download number. Moreover, Amazon Appstore currently "finds" apps installed on a device and matches them with apps in their list and they will try to update them.
One last note: app developers can and do put all kinds of code in their apps that touch live Google and Amazon APIs and components. This code will communicate with those services even if the app arrives on the device indirectly... so there are still many ways an app can be tracked besides just direct download numbers.

I Sent my market purchased apps to my spouses new phone, without my account on it, and they updated through his account, but only free versions. To get the update on paid versions I had to install my account, so there is definitely something going on in the signature.
If the developer updates their apps with any regularity the download count will rectify itself during the update process. BTW, Amazon does this as well. I am always offered to update my Market apps through Amazon (if free on both) but typically Market has the update before Amazon.
Cheers!

[Q] Appbrain unable to update installed apps

In relation to the Nook Color issue of not displaying your installed apps in the Market app, I confirm that AppBrain is able to show all my installed apps (I'm running PhireMod Nook V3) but still I have an issue. It shows me which apps are to be updated but when I click on one of these apps and select "Update (in Market)", then it starts loading the Market app and ends up with an error message saying that the requested item cannot be found.
So AppBrain is sort of a half workaround to see your installed apps but you still need then to go and find your individual app in the market to install the latest version which is quite painful.
Anyone the same experience and/or a solution to use Appbrain fully rather than the Market app?

If you can't see the app in the market you can't see it in the market....... Appbrain doesn't have its own market, it just links to the Android market.

Nope, appbrain has let me download apps not shown in the "old market" on autonootered 2.1 eclair with the "fast web installer" app. This method won't work for you because PhireMod uses "new market" (v.2.27) which blocks appbrain from bypassing it.
Here's an post about the change. (previous article was about the last time google blocked it! )
I'm going to try to use the reversal directions to put old market back on after I install PhireMod:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-new-android-market-2-2-6-on-your-device/
If I can't get old market working, I'm putting eclair back on it.

I've been using it on eclair (to find apps not listed by the market). My understanding is that it no longer works once you move to new market. I still haven't switched to froyo because I was waiting for the pandora bug to be fixed and hoping that appbrain would release a new version with new market support.

[Q] Android market not showing all my apps in my apps section ..

Hi ,
My android market ( 3.1.5 ) only shows the apps installed via market in the my apps section .
I also installed many other apps from sources other than Android market , but these apps do not show up in the my apps section of android market . Is this normal .?
I want these apps ( ones installed from other sources ) to show up in the my apps section of android market , to know when an updated version of those apps are available ...
So , is it normal for the apps installed from other sources not to show up in my apps section of android market .? If yes , is there a way to make them appear in the my apps section for new version tracking .??
Also are there any other apps which track new versions of all applications apart from atrackdog and appbrain .??
They don't appear in the market section if they are installed from other sources, although market recognizes them as installed.
Yet another reason why the new market is crap.
I got this problem so i uninstalled market updates from applications in settings and froze marketupdater.apk in system/apps.
Im now on the old market which recognizes all my apps (new market doesnt do this)
downloads everytime (new market fails/stalls alot!)
and is very quick (new market its painfully slow)
Why google thought the new market was an update is beyond me. its so far from a finished artical its unreal! it should be called market beta!
If it stutters on my sgs2 i dread to think what its like on a slower handset.
If you have several google accounts, switch to the correct one to make the already installed apps showing up.
No , only a single account .
Yet the apps installed outside the market do not show up in my apps section of market ..
Should they show up by default .??

I never saw the apps installed from other sources in my apps section, whichever version of the market i used. So i think this should be the default behavior. Although if you search those other sources apps in the market they show as installed. I think this is how it should be. My apps market section only shows you the apps you downloaded in the market.

AppBrain App Market and aTrackDog, none of them is perfect, but they are somewhat useful for providing info about updates for apps installed from other sources. If anyone knows some other tracking app please share the info
ya Please someone share some other source apart from appbrain and atrackdog for Update tracking ....!

[Q] Remove app from Android Market 'My Library'

So I use the Amazon app store and GetJar for free 'paid' apps. Some of these apps are showing up in "My Library" on my Google Android Market account. Is there a way to remove them from the Android Market account?
One recent problem is Wave Launcher which used to be free on GetJar. I don't see it listed anymore on GetJar and I can't even buy it from the Android Market since it thinks it's already purchased (but declines the 'install' saying it's not purchased). A 'delete' button like in the Amazon app store library would solve all of this...
Short of changing google accounts, I don't see any options on how to fix this. Anyone have any ideas? The problem is on my market library, not my phone (I know how to remove market links, etc.). Thanks.
I to have this problem its very annoying their has to be a way to clean it up.
I actually used the 'report' app function on the google market and got a reply back. They have "forwarded your case to a specialist to begin working to resolve your issue as soon as possible". We'll see what comes of it. Amazon's app store has a simple delete button in that library. It doesn't seem like that would be too hard to implement.
did you ever get a reply for this?
would love to be able to remove all the apps i just simply try for the sake of testing and i want them gone.....

I believe Titanium Backup can do this if you are rooted.

On the website I don't see an option, but it is possible on your phone.
I am not sure if all versions of the play store have this option (I am using Jelly Bean 4.1.2):
When I open the play store on my phone I can remove previous installed apps from the list.
Go to: Play Store > My Apps > All
There you can remove an app by tapping the Ø icon

Yeahp. It works.
I deleted some yesterday on my mobile, but they were still on my web "Other apps in my library".
Today, I deleted some again and reloaded the webpage. They disappeared.
Thanks for the tip.
Ok, maybe it needs some time to sync. Great it works!

I have this issue as well--phone app has no provision for deleting the apps, on JB ROM.

How do I see ALL of my paid apps at the Android market?

Where are my paid apps in the market?
I have over 97 "Paid" apps that I would go to after a rom flash, then I moved onto TI back up because of the simplicity of doing a restore.
In the past with the Samsung Vibrant 2.2 rom , when I go to the market, under my apps, I would see my apps that I paid for.
Now with my New Samsung SG3 4.xx rom , when I go to the market, half of them are gone. It's like I have to search for them and half of the time I cant remember what it was I had installed until I need that app.
What is the fix for this?
How do I see ALL of my paid apps at the Android market?
In Google Play, go to menu and then 'My apps'. A list of installed app will be displayed. Swipe to the right, and a list of previously installed app will appear. Select your paid apps from this list.

There's also an app I heard about just yesterday named "Legacy Play Store" that will only display your PAID apps. You can sideload it without root on pre-Jellybean devices (need root on JB).
I just tried the legacy play store app and all I got was f/c's.

I do know of that method and it does list some of the apps that I have paid for but not all of them.
Thanks Viva_SA; for your reply but even that does not list all of the apps.
This is what happens when you have over 10 billion apps sold and a large fragmentatio
Yes I agree, there should be a better way to have your paid apps listed, ALL of your paid apps.
I think google knows of this because I am not the only one with this problem and as the play market becomes mature, I am sure that there are other bugs that are now starting to surface.

Did you check out the legacy play store that was linked? It looks like it will do what we are looking for..
My only question is how do you install an app from a apk?
Defiantly, I love differentiating my purchased apps from my installed apps. I have 4+ devices.... I have 100s of apps installed and a lot are free but I do have numerous paid apps I have purchased that I would like to view without scrolling ALL the way to the bottom of the My Apps page.
Also, play.google.com does not properly detect when an app IS NOT installed on your phone so you cannot install a app from the website that was previously on your phone.

I have asked the support from the Google Market Place before it was changed to Play. This is what they told me, regarding installing apps on multiple devices. The Apps from the Market, now Play are tied into your email address hence your account. Not a phone number, so if you are to have 4 phones, as long as they are signed into a valid single account then you are free to install your apps on each puppy.
The white link is "My Orders & Settings" on the footer of the page......

[Q] How do market links/removing market links work in Titanium Backup?

I've been having Titanium Backup for a few months now, but have always been curious about what the "Market links" are.
So my questions are:
What are market links?
How do they work?
What does attaching an app to market do/creating a market link?
What does removing a market link do?

market links connect your app to google play store.
when your app receives an update market links helps you to be aware of the same.
its helps u get update info abt your app
if you are rooted, Using Titanium Backup (Pro) long click/press on the app you want to 'disconnect' from the market.
Then select Detach from Market. this will remove your market link but then you wont get any updates..

if you purchase an app the the purchase details are linked to your google account. so even if you reflash rom / wipe your phoone etc , if you log into the same google account it will automatically show as you have purchased that app.
Although for safety try not to mess with the market links of purchased apps..

Thank you so much with the fast reply!
One more question, when I download apps through the Play Store, and I go into Titanium Backup, I would expect an option in the menu saying "Detach from market", but they only have the "Attach to market option". this doesnt make any sense since the apps downloaded from the Play Store are already attached from the market. Can someone please explain this to me? Does the "attach to market option only work with sideloaded apps?
One last thing about Paid side loaded apps: Plants Vs. Zombies is $0.99 on the play store, if I side load it and atttach it to the market via a link, will I get updates even though it's sideloaded? Also will it appear in my app history as purchased if it's installed on the device? Will it appear as purchased if it's uninstalled from the device?
Thanks!

its showing "attach to market" because u have not installed that app from play market. you might have downloaded apk from somewhere and installed it separately(side loaded). Check other apps too that u have downloaded from play store have the same problem.

attaching market link should ensure that you get updates regardless whether the app is sideloaded or not ! i mean thats what attaching to market means ! no matter whether you are using TB or not if you have purchased app the it is linked to your google account that the app is purchased by you. Google is'nt counting on everyone to install TB and use the option of attach to market to get updates on purchased apps....

unfortunately only for the time beeing.. after a reboot the link is there again. Pretty annyoing as there are some devs patching their apps to crap until they don't work anymore. Got one of them and it was so easy to update all your apps, but you have to do it one after another 'cause this s**t app simply does not work when updated.
