Hi @nishantmnit...
1. Be carefull using "A2SD" @DarkTremor... many users have reported issues involving various roms (bootloops, Partitions refusing to mount etc.). I use Link2sd too & would recommend no other...
Swap partitions act in the same way as a Pc page file... It is used as a kind of virtual ram... In theory it should speed up data access for apps & the OS but in practice all it does is create additional cpu cycles where the system must move data to & from the partition (swap)... This is additional work load & translates basically to the system running slightly slower not faster as would be expected (unless your cpu is 1ghz +), only then would you see possible benefits...
So in short, the "ACE" does not need a swap partition, it will only slow things down... Stick with Link2sd, move user apps to Ext.3 partition, create symbolic links for system apps (if it allows, not all are allowed) & any apps that cannot be moved to sd normally.
FYI : Use CWM 4/5 recovery mode to format & partition your sd card... When asked choose 0m swap partition & your good...hehe
Hope this hellps dude...

I have converted my internal file system to ext4.
Currently I am using fat partition for link2sd. Shud i change it to ext4 or ext3? Advantage?
Is there anyway to avoid re-installation of apps required after converting the partition from fat to ext?

Hey @nishantmnit...
Helping is what XDA is all about...
You don't want to move apps to ext.4 as this is internal system memory & would defeat the object of what you are trying to achieve (more free internal memory).
Create mount script for Ext.3 which is your Sd partition... All Dalvik & Lib information will be stored here also as default.
As far as app compatibility after conversion, I do not know...? You could always try to backup apps using "Titanium backup", then restoring them using the same after the file system conversion... sorry I can't help you further with this question... I'll see if any other family member can answer this for you ok...?
!!! EDIT !!!
Check this link for a better insight of Ext.3 / Ext.4 & the benefits & shortfalls to expect... : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ext4#Migrating_from_ext3_to_ext4

One again thanks reaper...but my question was something different.
I am wondering I shud create an ext4 or ext3 partition to be used by link2sd. Hence apps dalvik and lib will reside on this new partition on sdcard not on internal memory.
Currently am using fat partition with link2sd as ext modules were missing prior to flashing cf root kernel.
I still cannot see ext3 module. however, ext4 module is there. I m not sure ext3 ll work or not.
Please advise.

Hi @nishantmnit...
Sorry for the late reply (Family business, New Years eve & all that. ..hehe).
When you run Link2sd it will ask you where to create mount script... If you choose any Ext. other than Ext.3 then Link2sd will return an error... It will only allow you to create a mount script for Ext.3 (which is sd Ext.).
backup your sd root entirely... Use CWM to partition & prepare sd card, Move backup back onto sd root, reboot phone, run Link2sd, choose create mount script on Ext.3, reboot phone, Move apps etc.... All is good...
I don't think you need to see an Ext.3 module as it is an External location not a system location per se & I think Link2sd does the hard work as it must stay in system memory to work correctly... Also keep launchers & themes in memory as moving them can create lag when the system has to access sd partition to recover data for them...
If I am still mis-understanding what you mean then I am at a loss to answer you... (sorry)...

[UPDATE] Weird problem with sd-ext --> PROBLEM SOLVED!?!

Ok, I am on vo-1's CM7.2, this also happened with ICS2/Final.
SD-EXT worked great, I linked my data with link2sd and after installing some apps the partition is empy. Same thing happened when I used s2e in the past. I look at the sd-ext folder and there's nothing there. With link2sd when i try to create link for new installed apps it says that partition is read only. I checked permissions, everything was ok. Formating the sd-ext solved the problem but this is not a solution as all apps there can vanish at any time.
I checked that with 2 different sd cards, they are not the problem. I create the mount script with link2sd as ext3.
Can anyone help me on this one? I am tired of facing this again. Am I doing something wrong?
Something else when a card is partitioned through CWM 5, does this create a script for the card? Is link2sd causing a problem when it mounts the sd with ext3? HEEEEEEEELP!!!!
Delete all partitions of your SD Card and Repartition it. It woks for me a 2 weeks ago with same problem.

a dev's help would be great here. Either the card is not formatted properly from within CWM, or this is CM7 issue or... I really don't know. It's things like this that make me tired and wanna go back to stock rom where simple things work.
Honestly, can someone provide with a solution cause as I read in other phones forums this thing with CM7 is also there!
I decided to partition sd with this http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm
Great tool but a bit tricky to use
So I succesfully created one fat32 primary partition and one EXT3 primary partition. Maybe I'll test it again with CM7.2 tonight and link2sd to see what happens.

I'm having the problem when partitioning through CWM so I don't think that will help you. Also Know that you said that you had partitioned with mini tool I don't think that easeus will also do it for me....
Still no response from a dev... too sad!
You can backup your sd ext via Linux OS or just VMWare and a Ubuntu vm. Last time I have made a backup and formated the sd ext with mini tool and it start working again. But now I don´t want to format but find a new/better solution. Somewhere I´ve read the read only problem is caused by canceling the sd check and you have just to run it through...
Since this problem is happening with various roms,it isn't a problem with the rom.
Try converting ext3 to ext4,this is not guaranteed to work but try it
[UPDATE]Weird problem with sd-ext --> PROBLEM SOLVED!?!
OK...PROBLEM SOLVED!!! (At least for me) So here's the story...
1. I used this http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm to partition sd. One primary fat32 and one ext3 1024MB partition. So I was sure sd was formated and partioned correctly (be ware, this program is a bit tricky but I am not gonna guide you through this - tricky at first but not difficult). Just make sure that the cluster size for fat32 should be 32KB and for EXT3 4KB. You should have something like this http://imageshack.us/f/810/65663741.jpg/ Partition sizes depend on your sd size and how much space you want to have on sd-ext. Just showing this to see what the outcome of the process must be.
2. Then placed the card on phone, started in recovery and then did a full wipe. As you know, when you wipe data/factory reset, sd-ext is also formated. I wasn't sure though what file system does CWM use to format sd-ext, that's why I did leave the sd on the phone.
3. So while in recovery, I pulled the card out, checked the card with Easeus and found that the sd-ext partition was not formated with a known file system, it said partition unkown!!!!!!! So I formated sd-ext with Easeus as an EXT3 again and put back in phone which was still in recovery. Then started to flashing things.
So far, everything is working great with link2sd (mounted sd-ext with ext3 when app first started - then reboot). I tested the hell out of it, created links for apps, then remove links, move apps to phone and opposite, lots of reboots and shutdowns to check if the sd-ext will stop working....After 180 apps phone works great, sd-ext is still there.
BOTTOM LINE
I think CWM has a problem when partitioning sd/formating sd-ext. Bottom line is when doing a full wipe, don't have the sd on the phone. Format and partition it with Easeus (or one of your choice) or delete files/folders you don't want with that. Remember, both FAT32 AND EXT3 should be PRIMARY!!!
Let say i already flash rom...then i wan to create partition on my sd...do i need to flash rom again after i complete partitioning my sd? Now im running cynoace what sd ext i need to create 3 or 4? Any one can help me?

[Q]Partition SD-CARD?

Why is the partition od sd-card? Sorry for english
I guess you meant WHERE is that option or HOW to do it..
Anyway if you want to make a partition on your sd-card you may use clockworkmod recovery here.
go to recovery mode, go to advanced, go to partition SD card, select size. (this process will erase all the data you have in the sd-card).
You can find more explanations and other tips here: Link
______________
If you meant why do the partition process, the answer is because it allows you to move entire applications to your sd-card, keeping free your internal memory.
Thnks, i partitioned my sdcard but the apps are still in my phone :c

Internal memory shortage!!

Although we can move apps to sd with rooted device but it still comsumes some memory form mobile. Is it not possible to move apps to sd without any consumstion of internal memory?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
I dont think so...
Partition your SD and use link2SD if you're on stock rom or a2SD / s2e if you're on custom rom. Still, all apps use a small amount of internal storage. Also check if your cache isn't too big, I've recovered up to 40 MB by clearing cache every few months.
You can use "S2E" from market and tick all option including the data one but you will get a decrease in performace. For data you must enter in definitions and tick advanced for accessing it.
I am using Miracale v4 by itasoulas and using link2sd to move apps to sd but if i download heavy size app or games it takes much more internal memory so, i'm running out of internal memory.
If i do partition of my sd card to install app separately will it also consume internal phone memory?

You need a rooted Ace for this? And custom ROM?
Guys,
Sorry to ask a noob question:
I know how to partition the SD card to EXT, but does these apps mentioned, Link2SD etc, working with stock rom? And uprooted phone?
Thanks.
Yes.
But you need follow the tutorials that are posted in the forum (hit search).
In stock roms u need (i guess) another kernel that support inid.d scripts.
The only reason i love cyanogen is because of s2e, after move dalvin on ed-ext i have 160 mb and with all my apps (20-+) i have 140mb.
I don't know if on stock u can do what s2e does but there are another tricks. (Link2sd) for exemple.

No, its possible, you would need to write a script which automounts the ext4 partition at boot as vold won't do that and fixes permissions, as you would get lots of fcs without.

i think he talks about formatting the whole sdcard with ext4 and mount that partition as sdcard for performance purposes. Correct me if i'm wrong, but thats how i understood that post. I actually tried the same a few months ago, there really seems to be increased perfomance of the sdcard and using fat32 on a linux devices doesn't make too much sense for me anyways.

I actually tried the same a few months ago, there really seems to be increased perfomance of the sdcard and using fat32 on a linux devices doesn't make too much sense for me anyways.

yes thats my question...
I always try and use ext4 in my sd cards. Performance seems to be better. The only reason I ever use FAT32 is so that I can view content in Windows.
No sir. U have to use a partitioning tool to format your SD vard. I am a noob. Learned this technique in xda. It's called a "minitool partition wizard home edition". U can create different number of formats all primary though. I used ext4 for a long time. But now I use ext2. The computer only recognises the first primary partition. So the ext2/4 will not be recognised by the pc and with the help of link2sd or data2sd U'll be able to use it as your internal memory if your phone memory is really tiny. It's related to performance but first its related to expanding your internal memory.
