[Q] Problems editing app info, accessing build.prop - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Back when I first rooted my NT, I seem to recall being able to edit the information, access FC, etc on a given app by click-holding the icon. Now, the only thing click-hold does is either move the app to the desktop if in Apps, or bring up the trash can if on the desktop.
I thought I could live with the issue, until I started trying to edit my build.prop with PropEditor to change the NT's fingerprint to spoof a Nexus S.
First step is to clear the Market data. Usually, I'd click-hold the Market icon, which would take me to a screen that gave me the option to FC, clear data, etc. Of course, I couldn't do this, so I had to take a round-about way getting to that screen (using Mobo Task Killer).
Next step is to install, then run PropEditor. Ran the app.
Next step is to save a backup of /system. PropEditor FAILED to save.
I figured if I were really careful, I could still go into build.prop and do what I had to do, doing a factory reset if I screwed something up. So I looked for build.prop and clicked on it... only to get an error message saying that the NT couldn't open build.prop for me.
Thoughts?

BTW... I guess "click-hold" should actually be "long press"

What launcher are you using? That behavior is present in ADW.

I'm using the Honeycomb launcher. Is there a way to switch or other launchers after you've completed the rooting process?

You can clear the defaults from the application settings, or you can install a new one (try uninstalling and reinstalling ADW if you already have it installed).

Outstanding! Now THIS is an interface I understand! My only complaint is that I've gotten used to being able to stack the icons closer.
Now then, on to the problem of the build.prop...

I just couldn't get PropEditor to work for me, so I wound up downloading Root Explorer instead.
Here's me being cautiously optimistic...

You can change the columns and rows in the ADW settings ... I have mine at 8 and 9 ... is that what you're referring to?

No, I was changing the build.prop to spoof a Nexus S. It didn't work under PropEditor, so I had to install Root Explorer and do it that way.

[Q] un-hide htc apps (mirror, car home, etc)

Unlocked and rooted now and I'm seeing all those htc apps in the system app folder. How do we get those to show in the app drawer?
Thanks and of course apologies if this has been asked, I searched.

I'm not rooted but I used an app called Any Cut to make shortcuts for hidden apps on my desktop. Apparently if you use ADW Launcher or Go Launcher they show up and are accessible.
Both ADWLauncher EX and LPP Plus show all the apps, I'm not sure why Sense doesn't .......
~John
Just using es file explorer will let you create a shortcut.

So how would you do this??
I don't have ADW installed right now (I had to have my phone replaced) but when I did it showed a CAMCORDER icon in the app drawer that could be used as a home screen shortcut.
With the totally stock ROM etc, it doesn't show up anywhere but if you hit the search button & type in camcorder it shows the icon & opens & works fine.
How would you create a home screen shortcut for camcorder with the stock Sense ROM??

Really? Hidden apps?
Can someone make a list of what all there is missing?

Can't guarantee this is everything:
Camcorder
Car panel
Dock mode
Mirror
Quick lookup
Got it from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367185&highlight=hiding
Thanks. That thread is nice and was what I was searching for.
Shortcuts are fine but I'm hoping to have them in the sense app drawer.

someone posted a thread a while back saying something about a Sense config file that has all of the apps and whether they are to be shown or hidden. now that we have perm root i'm sure that we could modify that file now but i can't find the thread that talked about it.
Edit: found it:

Credit goes to "scrosler"
Thanks. I just tried to remove the line referring to the mirror, but it's still hidden from the drawer. I might/might not try some more but in the meantime I'll have to use search option.
Thanks again. This thread is useless other than the links to the other thread

did you reboot after modifying it? you might have to, or you might have to clear the cache, or hell, you might have to do a data wipe before it takes effect
for us unrooted folk, how do we make shortcuts from ES?

That's good advice. I'm not home now but I did reboot. Clearing cache sounds like a good attempt. I'm going to be trying that!
Clearing cache wasn't enough.. I'll be trying data wipe later.
And.... Clearing cache and data wipe was a no go. Already had to do a restore and it's nice to know CWMs workin

I wasn't able to figure that out. How do we do that with es? I just get a shortcut to the apk not the app.

Folders with ADW (free version)

Is this possible? I can't seem to figure it out. The long press menu doesn't work at all on the NT. I can't find another way to add them.
I only got folders to work on go launcher because it can create them in the apps window, allowing you to create shortcuts to them on the launcher screens.

Hold App A on top of App B for a little while longer and a transparent box should appear. That is your folder.

Are you sure that works on the free version? I know it works on ADW EX. I used the free version until a few months ago, and I don't believe it has had updates in forever.
I am using adw ex version not sure if it works in free.

I have the exact same problem with the free version. Dropping apps on top of each other does not work and trying to create one by long pressing an open space on the home screen just makes that window disappear. I figured it was something with my root and re-rooted the NT, but it unfortunately didn't change anything.
Not much help from me other than saying you are not alone fr3dw0rth.
I downloaded the newest version of ADW ex from mobilism and I am able to create folders. I think it runs a lot better than go launcher

Missing Icons on home screen

Just thought I'd share a bit of personal experience.
Those of you who have root access in there devices may have noticed icons missing on there home screens. If you are wondering why this is due to using Titanium Backup to move apps to the SD card. This only happens with certain apps, usually only the ones that can't be moved from the devices settings. To fix this simply move said apps back to internal storage and all will be well.

Other "move 2 sd" apk
Not just Titanium,i use Link2SD and it's the same,or force apk not 2 work,or widgets,just restore apk 2 phone.
BTW some task killers 2 can force widgets not to work 2.
I haven't had much experience with other apps like Titanium cos I'm very new to smartphones and my Arc is the first REAL smartphone I've had. Thanks for your info. I really have so much to learn.

lost icons found
The homescreen loads before your SD card. To get your icons back;
go to SETTINGS...select ALL
select the launcher (in my case SENSE) and force close.
The launcher will restart and all your lost icons should reload properly.
i am having this trouble too
haha didnt knew what to do thnx guys.

Touchwiz: Alter folder behavior

I have most common items in folders so that I have ready access to them.
When you launch an app from the folder, and then exit, the folder remains open and has to be closed with a back arrow or a click on the screen.
Is there a way to change the behavior so that the folder closes upon launch of an application within the folder?

You've done nothing wrong. It behaves that way hehehe. If it bothers you, you need to get a different launcher.

Didn't think I was doing something wrong, the question was is this a tunable feature?
It's an annoyance, might change launchers although, IMO as OEM skins go it isn't too bad.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2.x
No, there is no settjng to change it. I switched to Circle Launcher from the Play Store. It's very customizable and the folders don't stay open.

I'm sure it's tunable in some way if any developers are willing to add that feature, but I haven't seen any. You should request a developer and see if this mod can be added.
I'm not 100% sure if it can be done by tweaking CSC features, but you can ask in this post.

Kindle app font size

I rooted my kfhd yesterday. And I'm loving it, only thing so far is the kindle app for reading my books is restricted in the smallest don't size.
I used to be able to make it smaller than it is now.
I know it's not a major complaint but is there a way to make it smaller since its a rooted kfhd?

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE
But bricking is not likely if you do this right. :good:
Get ES File Explorer from the play store and install.
Open the settings menu and scroll down to the "root settings" (near the bottom of the menu).
Open root settings and make sure to check all the options (grant su permissions when prompted).
Then, back out of settings menu and navigate to root (by clicking the "file up" button).
Open the system file and find build.prop file.
Open the build.prop file with ES Note Editor. (should be an option for ES Note Editor when you click on it)
VERY CAREFULLY SCROLL DOWN until you see ro.sf.lcd_density=xxx.
Where I put xxx, you will see a number like 240 or whatever the stock dpi is.
Now, click just after the line and delete the number (only the number, nothing else) and now enter a number that you want. (try 210). The smaller the number, the more "zoomed out" your screen will look. Stay within 150-300 though just to be safe.
BE CERTAIN THAT YOU DID NOT EDIT ANYTHING ELSE!!!
Back out and save when prompted.
Reboot. And see if you like it. The same process will change it back or to another size. Staying within 150-300 though just to be safe.
IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES.
If you brick your phone, help can be found in my signature.
Good Luck.
