screen scratch warning. - HTC Amaze 4G

So a few days ago I was in the accessories forum saying how the screen has gorilla glass and I'll complaining why people were buying screen protectors...guess I was wrong...well I don't know if it does or not...but the first day I got the phone I keyed the heck out of it (still 30 day grace period so i could exchange the phone) and there were NO SCRATCHES AT ALL...so I was happy!!! Still I would never put my phone in the same pocket as my keys or anything else, Just gotten used to over the years...
Today I found scratches on my screen...I don't even know where they came from...I have never dropped the phone...I have a case on there... Paid full price of almost 600 for the phone and I am mad...My two year old N1 has no scratches after two years of use with no screen protector or case....just don't understand how when I keyed the phone there were NO scratches and how the phone can get scratched...I rooted my phone...so I don't know if HTC will cover something like this...I do have the Tmobile insurance plan...what do you guys think I should do at this point??? they said they can exchange my phone for refurbished one for 5 bucks since I have the insurance...I'm not too big on getting refurbished things...have not had good experiences...the scratch is no sooo bad...but stilll have only had the phone for just over 4 weeks.

probably will get the refurbished.
after a little research this is what I found. I tested old N1, 3g slide and amaze...they all have some type of fortified glass, gorilla glass is just one type of glass which is probably the same as other types of fortified glass...NON of my phones scratched with hard key test...they all have some sort of fortified glass...I used to have a dell axim, which would scratch with a touch of a stylus...Gorilla glass has no advantage over other fortified glasses....It has just become a popular name...
Just wanted to mention...that fortified glass is stronger and much better and it IS IN OUR PHONES, doesn't matter if it is manufactured by corning or not.....BUT its not scratch proof...sand and rocks can scratch and even shatter it...the reason for this is that sand is very hard and glass is made of sand so glass cuts glass.
with that said...I have tried many screen protectors over the past on my old iphone and 3g slide...I absolutely hate ZAGG...Yes its tough, but it gives a sticky feeling and makes the screen very wavy looking you can tell its on there, I've also read that it interferes with HTC amazes touchscreen after a while it also starts peeling which collects dust etc..Just go and get yourself and very thin translucent screen protector such as boxwave thats very smooth to touch and very clear...it will be enough...remember nothing protects your phone from getting shattered...zagg is a little tougher than other screen protectors, but if your going to drop your phone and get it shattered nothing will protect it...
Thank you for reading my essay!!!

Like I said before It doesn't matter if It's from corning company or not...Gorilla glass is a type of fortified glass just as our amaze has a fortified glass. Does not mean Gorilla glass is better than other fortified glasses...what I meant to say is that our phone is just as good as Gorilla glass which is a type of fortified glass...watch the videos i posted about scratch tests with gorilla glass and amazes glass...WHY DO PEOPLE GET SO HUNG UP ON THE NAME GORILLIA??? all phones at this point have some sort of fortified glass, if not gorilla another type, perhaps even better...the only reason people think gorilla is the best is because i'm guessing due to high advertisement and they might have been the first to come up with fortified glass.
"Samsung is authorized under a full license to make Gorilla Glass for everything from big screen tv's to mobiles. So why did they choose to use their own new Fortified glass? Because it's BETTER! .....especially if Samsung used their graphene technology coupled with their far superior Polymer Polyimide plastic base (same ingredients as Bullet Proof Plastic), that are both flexible and far more durable than any kind of glass! .....even Bullet Proof Glass!!!!" as someone stated in a forum
http://samsungcorning.com/
HTC might have the same type of deal now...they are not being specific about it!!!
Gorilla Glass is nothing but a brand put out by Corning.
It is not the "end all" of chemically hardened glass, not by a long shot.
I'm getting so sick of hearing about "Gorilla Glass", it is nothing new OR special. If you do not believe me, take a sheet of sandpaper to your Gorilla Glass screen, and then tell me how awesome Gorilla Glass is. Your screen will be a scratched unreadable mess, just like any other hardened glass product. look at the links i put up.
Too bad phone manufacturers have to look for every little "feature" they can market. If not for marketing, no one would know what "Gorilla Glass" even is.
Since the naming of corning gorilla became really popular and costs a lot of money phone manufacturers are putting their own or other made fortified glass on phones now....IT DOES NOT MEAN ITS INFERIOR...It might actually be better...no one really knows...I know that my 3g slide has gorilla glass and it smudges very easily, it also scratches too just like my amaze, in fact a little easier...so in some ways amazes fortified glass might be superior....this DOES NOT MEAN ITS SCRATCH PROOF...its just more resistant to scratch, just like gorilla glass is period.
It is possible that HTC uses Corning brand but is unable to release that information to the public because it would cost them money for the brand name advertised...to give the name of gorilla glass...No one knows for sure...By keeping the manufacturer of the amazes fortified glass htc can reduce this cost...it might or might not be by corning, and doesn't really matter as I have stated above.

Maybe treat this phone like the $600 piece of hardware it is? I honestly do not understand how many consumers treat these devices like ****. I have never dropped or scratched any high end phone....basic responsibility.

I think its safe to say the op does, if he put a case on it. Just because you never scratched your device doesn't mean people that do treat there phones badly sometimes its just bad luck for some, but now a days most people expect there phones to not scratch since a lot of the high end phones have that built in. With that being said I protected my amaze since day one so if you invested in a case should have got a screen protector especially when you paid so much for it, when you buy at full price id protect any device I get.

I did protect my phone, i got a case, like I said I had my N1 without a screen protector for two years with no scratch...Also the reason I got a insurance plan that i pay 8 bucks a month for...I protect my investment...so I'll be getting a refurbished one for 5 bucks instead of paying full price for a new one...in the past 4 years I've only dropped my phone 4 times... I am very careful...I don't put it in the pocket with keys...I just have no idea where the scratch came from??? I ALWAYS handle my phone like its an egg lol...maybe my GF used it or something I don't know...

tried it already, no use...did it three times.... according to wikipedia HTC amaze has gorilla glass, according to corning website it doesn't, maybe corning just havn't updated their site yet...either way, my next phone is getting a screen protector.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_devices_with_Gorilla_Glass
ALSO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT ACCORDING TO CORNING THEY DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT RELEASE INFORMATION ON ALL DEVICES WITH GORILLA GLASS
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/faqs/all
DOES THIS LIST INCLUDE ALL DEVICES THAT HAVE GORILLA GLASS?
No, unfortunately, customer agreements prevent us from identifying all the devices that feature Gorilla Glass. This list shows all devices we can talk about. We’ll continue to update the list as customers allow us to share that information.
I hope this thread will put an end to the confusion about the glass used on the amaze and that no glass including gorilla glass is scratch proof or shatter resistant even if our phones have them.

Someone posted a video testing the amaze screen.
http:// http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uk9-yLxQgA
With the prices of top end cell phones you would think people would spend that little bit to get a case and screen protector. They are made for phones for a reason..

the gorilla glass is hard enough to withstand scratches, but the fingerprint or reflective coating will not. You will see the scratches when fog up screen or when it is oily.

I don't understand why HTC would NOT want it known that the Amaze has Gorilla Glass. Gorilla Glass is generally seen as being a desireable asset. Why would they keep that secret? I can only assume that if they don't say they have it, then they don't have it. I could be wrong. I was wrong once before.

Is there a point for a screen protector?

You don't need a $20 screen protector. Even the very cheapest clear screen protectors will work just fine. But you should definitely buy one unless you enjoy risking the screen being scratched.
Never had one on my EVO and I will never have one on my E3D. My EVO screen is in perfect condition. It really depends on how well you take care of your stuff. For me its a no.
I already have the Zagg on my EVO 3D screen and platinum case on it since yesterday. I have a 4 year old who loves to play with my phone. It's a must for me and it has saved me a couple of times. I replaced mine 2x from him messing with it. When i sold it yesterday, the screen was flawless.. It's just like big Zone said, it's how well you take care of it.
I never had one on my Evo. By the end, I had dropped it a couple of times, carried it in my pocket, etc, and it came out with only minor surface scratches that could only be seen in direct sunlight. So I won't be putting on on my 3D.
ive never had a screen protector on any of my recent phones.evo 4g, arrive, nexus s and now not evo 3d. But an employee at my store somehow managed to get a decent scratch dead in the middle of his. not sure how he thinks he had it in his pocket with a lighter. and he takes care of his stuff. so it is possible
i build scaffolding in a paper mill so a screen protector is a must for me as well as a defender case. i cant tell you how many times a screen protector has saved me from scratches.
You can get great deals on ebay...like 2 dollars for 6 of them.
Of course you need them. It never hurts to have it on there, have had them on all my phones. The one i have now has a couple scratches on it....i know the protectors are weaker than the screen glass but for two dollars why not slap one on there?
I posted an email from HTC in another post about Gorilla Glass.
It's not listed on Corning's site, and HTC says that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
Some people say that the email is wrong, but without anyone actually saying there is GG in the phone, I'm assuming that it doesn't have it.
Dear [name],
I appreciate your interest in some of new Android devices like the HTC Sensation 4G and the HTC EVO 3D. You were wondering about the availability of Gorilla glass in either of these new Android devices. Some of our devices come with screens made out of a proprietary formula of glass and some have Gorilla glass. Unfortunately, these devices are not in the list for Gorilla glass.

I know some people will argue it, but without anyone actually saying that it does (other than some review or another forum), I don't believe it.
So yes, a screen protector is a good idea. Even if you never need it, it's cheap and it's always nice to have just in-case something does happen.
Thunderbolt had gorilla glass and it scratched super easy. I would imagine just like anything, there are different qualities to gorilla glass. For instance HTC could have cut a deal for a lesser product for cheaper money.
I normally take care of my devices, never really had an issue, except 1 time I was careless and a tape gun thing went flying out of my hand(no idea how) and the blade smacked dead on the screen of my evo. It made a little bubble on my zagg shield, but I still think it would have put a nice big scratch on the screen itself. Just for the occasional f'up, i'm going to be getting a screen protector.
I have screen protectors. The first week I had my Evo 4G I was using the Sprint screen protector. The screen got several little scratches where the screen protector doesn't cover. I bought a full cover shortly after that.
I would carry my phone in my front pocket.
IMO, No 10char

You don't know that. Most anything strong enough to scratch a full glass screen can peel off a screen cover while doing so.
I rarely use Screen protectors - but.. since i'm always an earlier adopter for the latest and greatest phones (yes, i did own and iphone4 at one point) friends and family always take it away from me and mess around. I'll keep a cheap protector on it for a couple months then remove it - and go naked.

$20? I really must start selling screen protectors to you if you are willing to pay that! They only cost about 20 cents in bulk, so some of these sellers have quite a markup! That said, I do think some of the places like Steinheil have a premium product.
Let me ask you this, have you ever seen an iPhone with a scratched screen? Those have gorilla glass too. It does scratch.
I have a clarvue screen protector on right now. Even though I take good care of my phone, a screen protector is cheap insurance. You can't even tell it is on.

This is what I have also, 2 for ~$11.00 from their site, iirc. I like it better than any of the others I've tried.
What is so special about Clarivue protectors compared to the cheap ones?

no screen protector needed. You can literally take a razor to the screen and it will be fine. It takes a ton of force and something very very tough to scratch the screen. I do run a protector but not to protect but to give a matte finish which works wonders in sunlight and also makes your finger just glide across the screen. The Otter Box Defender has the perfect material screen built in for this.

Based on what I've seen, I believe the Evo 3D is listed on the Gorilla Glass website because the glass covering the camera is Gorilla Glass. Have you had any success getting a phone replaced for a screen scratch? I would think they would put that squarely into the "your fault " category...

I'm sorry were you under the misconception that the insurance only covers loss or something? Your fault category is precisely what insurance is for slick.
Mechanical or electrical failure, routine maintenance, and failure from normal wear and tear. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
Loss, theft, physical or liquid damage and resulting corrosion, and fire or lightning damage. File your replacement request within 60 days of incident.
The screen scratches just as easy as any phone. I had ny EVO screen scratch on me from my earrings. Forgot I had them on while talking on the phone and scratched my screen to all hell. Safe to say doesn't sound like gg to me.

I actually emailed HTC on this question a few weeks ago..the rep told me that neither the front screen or the back camera cover were gorilla glass..he said that they have used a glass that is comparable or better than gorilla glass.but on the corning site it shows as having gorilla glass
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
No offense but most everyone knows that the reps aren't exactly the most knowledgeable of people.
If it's listed on Corning's site it must be true, they can't really lie about where their product is and isn't being used, it's bad business.
Also my phone's glass is pretty damn strong, I've dropped it on a metal seat belt and I don't have anything to show for.

Its been officially stated that the screen is GG and the camera lens protector is just plastic (albeit a strong plastic).
I dont bother with screen protectors. My Evo 4G (not GG) never had a protector for a little over a year and never had an issue. If you treat your stuff right, it should stand upto any "normal" abuse. Of course its preference.
Yeah, everyone sweats over whether it has Gorilla Glass or not, it's still just glass. Every phone now has hardened glass, they all don't scratch from metal, and they all scratch from the same sand and what not. Who cares if it's officially Gorilla Glass or not?
FYI:
EVO 4G x2. Evo# 1 never got a scratch. Evo #2 (Wifes Evo) scratched......insurance replaced without a deductible (I have no idea how that happened...lol).
EVO 3D's NAKID as well...and will be....for me screen protectors just make the touch screen feel crappy......

Most metal is harder than any kind of glass (Except maybe gold). Specially if you have any kind of gemstone in your earrings. Gorilla glass != Indestructible.
For what it is worth:
I dropped a small hardened steel drill bit from 8 inches and it chipped my screen. (this was by accident as I had it under my work station). The chip immediately turned into a crack the moment I touched the phone. I bought a replacement digitizer to replace myself...
The outcome: The outer glass/digitizer is 1.40mm/0.055in thick. It is fairly tangible. Replacing the digitizer is a b---h, and I mean that as the LCD and digitizer cannot be accessed easily, if at all, from inside the phone.
And, my new screen got a tiny scratch from a razor blade on my work desk. I do not think this is a specialty glass. I would advise caution and possibly a case & screen protector...
i dont know about you guys but my Evo3D has DIAMOND GLASS !!! I have a pure diamond screen. **** gorilla glass !!!!
There are so many reports of broken and scratched Evo 3D screens already, why take the chance. Just search the forums, you'll find a several gouged and shattered screens here. Phone insurance doesn't cover cosmetic issues (like scratched glass), only functional issues.
Taking care of the phone helps, but accidents happen. I had 4 Evo 4G's, 3 were mint, 1 had a scratched screen, they all had screen protectors and cases from the time they came out of the box.

Where is the Sprint provided screen protector?

I read there is a provided screen cover with the 3VO, but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone fill me in on exactly where it might be in the box? There isn't much there, but I may have possibly looked right past it.

yep no screen protector plus there is no way sprint gives anything out for free
Anyway, the Sprint screen protector is the ****tiest thing I've ever seen. After a day I could not see through it, I left it in my pocket with my driver's license. I'm going to Verizon to try to find one that is the approximate size, I was never disappointed with their protectors, and they are much cheaper than the big brand ones.
Darn, I remember getting one with my TP2, by gone days. Anyway thanks guys. Going to have to guard it with my life until I can purchase a screen protector online.

I keep seeing "fights" online about only the camera glass being Gorilla Glass, and a reply by HTC not confirming either way, so I'm paranoid. Quite an investment for me and it would kill me to get a scratch and that would really mess up the 3D effects.

Scrapes, bumps, and drops are a fact of life, but Gorilla Glass enables your device to resist damage from the abuses that come with everyday use. Gorilla Glass also has strong aesthetic appeal. It’s thin, lightweight, and cool to the touch – enabling the sleekest designs.
WHAT MAKES GORILLA GLASS SO DAMAGE RESISTANT?
The unique composition of Gorilla Glass allows for a deep layer of high compressive stress (created through an ion-exchange process). This compression acts as a sort of “armor,” making the glass exceptionally tough and damage resistant.
CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE ION-EXCHANGE PROCESS?
Ion exchange is a chemical strengthening process where large ions are “stuffed” into the glass surface, creating a state of compression. Gorilla Glass is specially designed to maximize this behavior.
The glass is placed in a hot bath of molten salt at a temperature of approximately 400°C. Smaller sodium ions leave the glass, and larger potassium ions from the salt bath replace them. These larger ions take up more room and are pressed together when the glass cools, producing a layer of compressive stress on the surface of the glass. Gorilla Glass’s special composition enables the potassium ions to diffuse far into the surface, creating high compressive stress deep into the glass. This layer of compression creates a surface that is more resistant to damage from everyday use.
you kinda do have to be careful with the thing because gorilla glass or no i managed to get a tiny scratch in the camera glass (thankfully it missed the lenses and flash) with just normal taking in and out of my pocket
i highly recommend hopping on ebay or something and getting a camera glass cover just to be safe, they usually tag along with a screen cover too if the guy sells them

I don't know that the camera part is GG or not. Ya the stuffs not bullet proof but its better than standard glass.
My OG EVO I never used a screen protector and it was like the day I got it when I sold it.
I put my phone in my pocket with whatever might be in there and my scree is still pristine.
i hate the damn screen protectors from sprint!! how does putting a phone in my damn pocket create a long scratch across the screen!? BS...ik it has gorilla glass, but i just bought this baby and i wanna take care of it lol

The fascination is the fact that its supposed to be better than regular glass. It doesn't have it people ***** it does have they act like they don't give a ****.
Maybe you should have yours removed and replaced with cheap plastic then if it makes no difference to you.

Yeah, supposed to be, but that didn't stop some small surface scratches from appearing on my original 3D, just a few weeks after having it in my pocket all by itself, when I did the same thing with my OG EVO for over a year and not once scratch, big or small (includes surface scratchs)
That's what led me to say this:

Gorilla glass ?

Hey guys
Does HTC Titan have a gorilla glass ? Because I googl'd and found mixed results
It's confirmed from GG's site.
However,I was reading a review which said it has GG display
http://www.unwiredview.com/2011/11/09/htc-titan-review/
"Under the Gorilla Glass is a 4.7-inch Super LCD display. This is the largest screen on any Windows Phone device on the market. "
So can any of you guys who own this phone confirm whether it has GG or not ?
Don't think so.. If i'm wrong, then Gorilla Glass isn't very good! I have some scratches on my screen just after 1.5 month of use.. My old HD2 hasn't a single one and I've been using that for 2 years..
no gorilla glass
imho unwiredview is pretty unreliable on quite a few bits of news...
I'm sure its tempered glass
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/products-with-gorilla/htc
Doensn't have Titan on the list, but the HD7. and my HD7 has 2 deep scratch somehow after 2 months of use... so???
Well,I wish this screen had some kinda protection :-S
Strike_Eagle ,you mentioned that it has GG(in your review on this site)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1309175
"I would say it is good. Not the best but it is good-perfect.
It is Gorilla Glass. "
Honestly,I don't care much about GG,I just want it to be something that doesn't scratch
I emailed HTC about this, and they confirmed that it does not have gorilla glass.
I understand you would like to know if the HTC Titan uses Gorilla Glass, and I will be happy to discuss this with you. In our commitment to quality, HTC pioneered the use of shatter-proof glass in smartphones. At one time, Corning was the only manufacturer and we used their product, Gorilla Glass. Since then, many manufactures have developed and advanced shatter-proof glass technology, allowing HTC to use the highest quality cutting edge shatterproof glass in our smartphones while keeping costs low for our customers. Unfortunately, we would not be able to advise as to which specific manufacturer or product was used for the screen in your particular Titan. Rest assured, however, that it's screen is made of shatter-proof glass.

hmm,so it's not gorilla glass but shatter proof instead ?
Are they kinda advertising or is it really shatter proof ?
Makes you go hmmm?
I'll still slap a screen protector on it to help anyway. I had the Zagg on my Focus, and it worked good for me. I ordered it today for half-off cyber Monday deal.
When i had my TP2, i installed a screen protector on it but when i got an iPhone 4,i didn't put anything on it and after a year of usage, it doesn't have any scratch whatsoever.(And it wasnt gorilla glass either) so if the Titan's screen is as scratchless as iPhone's then I wont even bother getting a screen protector.
Anyway,here's what slashgear reports(in their Titan's review)
"Titan is one of the company’s most cohesive, solid handsets of the past year. The matte-finish black metal casing and bevelled toughened Gorilla Glass fascia come together beautifully, and the various logos and branding are discrete and thankfully chrome-free."
MY comment at the other thread is based on several review article online, because there isn't a way for me to test it.
But if HD7 has Gorilla Glass, then the quality of GG is super low.
my HD7 catched up very few light scartch after only 2 days of using...
If you look at the Gorilla glass website, it lists the Surround as having it, but not others. I have the surround, and it does feel like gorilla glass. And i received a reply from htc regarding the scratch resistance of the new glass they are using instead of the gorilla glass.
The glass we currently use is comparable to Gorilla Glass in regards to scratch resistance and shatter resistance. Unfortunately, we do not have any specifics about the glass and all we know is that it is comparable to Gorilla Glass in its features. I do apologize that I cannot give you more information about this, but I do hope this was helpful.

I would just like to state this: HTC said themselves that the HTC Titan DOES NOT use gorilla glass.
Ok now I've never had a gorilla glass as mostly AMOLED is what I used - hence no gorilla there.
This is my first capacitive non-AMOLED i.e. capacitive LCD (here S-LCD)... I am sure we are not losing anything with absence of the 'gorilla'. The screen feels much scratch resistant unless you knife it! I've dropped my phone 3 times on the road and pavement - no scratch on the screen. A little scratch near the back-bottom (invisible).

Thanks, seems like a great screen then
Scratches?
Whether it's GG or not, sounds like at least 1 Titan owner already has some scratches. Which is too bad. I have the Zagg Invisible Shield on my Focus, and I just hate putting any screen cover over the beautiful glass. Plus I'm on my second Zagg already, and even the second one is peeling up around the edge. Just got my Titan, still in its box. I may go naked for a while.

DId they (Zagg) ship your order? I too ordered their InvisibleSheild on cybermonday sale, but they never shipped it (even after a week). I ended up asking for a refund (via Paypal). Now I asked my local mall Zagg guy (no way related Zagg itself, but he sells their product) to get the sheilds. Good thing is he will process any replacements too. With Zagg.com you will need pay them full price, and get a replacement after you return old one. You will lose the shipping cost bothways.
"gorilla glass" is a product not a type of glass
I have a TITAN and the screen is pretty solid, so scratches after weeks and feels very hardened.
I'm pretty sure HTC is making the same thing on their own instead of purchasing from corning, but for legal reasons they cannot refer to it as "gorilla glass" because corning has a copyright on it. Question is who has the patent to the hardening process or not. Otherwise anybody is free to make glass this way, they just can't call it GG.
So for all intents and purposes I would say it has GG, but it's HTC's knock off version not the corning version. I could be wrong...

They're in Taiwan. It's almost certainly some cheap Chinese, er Taiwanese knock-off of Gorilla Glass. Close but not quite as good. I'm still going to put a Zagg over my Titan to be safe. I actually got the easy install full body so maybe I won't be as inclined to drop it in the first place.
I'm biased towards zagg products so take this with a grain of salt.
I have had the titan since it came after the penny sale. I applied the zagg shield yesterday. When cleaning my screen, I noticed there was a micro-scratch! Invisible except for in a certain light and with the screen off, but scratched my my short time with it nonetheless.
I love zagg's invisible shield, and I think it will confer a few extra benefits for the titan:
1. The full body shield improves grip; less slippery, more secure in my hand. I know this was a concern for me, especially when trying to reach the back button using one hand.
2. I haven't had any issues personally with reception, but the full body shield prevents direct hand contact and thus should alleviate grip-of-death.
In general, the shield does an excellent job in protecting the phone. One of my issues with straight up glass is if my fingers contain any moisture whatsoever, unless my fingers are perfectly dry, I cannot smoothing swipe across the screen. Moisture increases the coefficient of friction on glass, and any greases or oils are clearly visible on glass. Oils/greases aren't as readily visible on the invisible shield as it is on just glass, and I find that I can just grease up my screen by rubbing it a little bit for a smoother experience.
Yes, the invisible shield does show signs of wear after perhaps 6months to a year of use, but with their lifetime warranty you can get a new set for a few dollars in shipping (Provided you mail back the original shield, via regular envelope even, no special packaging).
I would suggest using wrapsol screen and body shield. You don't get the orange peel effect that the zagg invisible shield gives you. I used the wrapsol screen protector on my surround since the day I got it over a year ago. It has not peeled up or scratched looks as good as the day I bought it.

[Q] gorilla glass or not ??

does the tp have gorilla glass or not ??
and any recomendation for screen garder
Some reviews say it does in fact have gorilla glass...
While I don't think its anywhere on HP website or gorilla glass support website...
Id get a screen protector anyways gorilla glass is somewhat a gimmick as all glass is easy to scrach and break... Gorilla glass is just a marketing tool imo and have scrached a few in my life
I only had my touchpad for a few days now and I bought a screen protector from Walmart (designed for the touchpad)
Forgot the name ill post it in a few mins...
The general consensus around the net is that it does, many reputable reviewers remark on it having gorilla glass, however these mostly consist of reviews done with pre-launch units that may be different in some regards to the mass-production touchpads.
I dont think HP nor Corning have officially stated that it has, my guess is that some touchpads may have it and others have similar glass.
At any rate, I tried out a screen protector for mine and ended up taking it off 10 minutes later due to a distinct difference in responsiveness and feel. I may have just got unlucky with a cheap one, and your generally better off with a screen protector anyhow
I got a Griffin from Walmart... its alot better than any other screen protector I've used...
And I've used alot on phones and my old ipad
I bruyant a screen protecteur of ipad and resize it
Thank you
I'm going with "not". My Nook Color, which has never seen a screen protector, remains scratch free after nearly a year and 5 kids abusing it. Within the first month, the kids managed to put a 1" scratch across the middle of the Touchpad. I've since bought screen protectors for it from Amazon.
Gorilla glass is just tough against shocks.... not scratches

Whatever is on it, I have never felt a more slippery device in my life. Both front and back of this thing seem like they exude a lubricating oil that makes it impossible to remain in your hands or be fingerprint-free.
Absolutely crazy.

The actual glass part is coated by HP with a clear solution making it easy to wipe the screen with any cloth, no liquids necessary. It is always so shiny and clean after I do a small wipe. I do also think it is Gorilla Glass, take a razor and try to scratch it . Then again, it IS glass .
