[Q] can't delete secondary email account - Motorola Droid RAZR

this morning i noticed that my secondary email account (it's an imap google server, but not the main account) stopped syncing. when i hit the sync button i got a response saying 'unable to connect to imap.vzw.net'
when i couldn't change/check the imap settings, i tried to delete the account, but it wouldn't let me. when i go into account settings and try to remove the account it lags on 'removing account' and then eventually tells me it is unable to remove the account.
i called verizon and spoke to both a verizon and motorola rep and both said that i would have to do a master reset on the phone. i'm finding it hard to believe that you need to do a master reset just to delete an email account.
also tried creating a second account, changing the default to that one, but still won't delete, and now i can't delete the second account either. tried clearing cache for all for email apps (email, email accounts, email engine, and email authenticator) and email accounts is grayed out, but after clearing the others, still can't delete the account.
to specify this is not the gmail account required for android, but an additional account under the 'email' app. after lots of searching it seems that other android phones don't have this problem, and can't find any specifics to the razr.
thanks

This happened to me about a month ago. Same response from tech support. The factory data reset works to fix it & it hasn't happened again. Do you use an app called Root Call Blocker?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium

No, the phone doesn't have that app. It's not rooted. Kind of ridiculous that you need to master reset the phone to delete email accounts. Luckily phone is a few weeks old and doesn't have much on it, but if this happens a few months down the line it would be a huge headache to reset. Do you know if this is a Razr specific problem or related to android or motorola specifically?

took the phone back to verizon today, and then it started working. not sure what happened. but second account is deleted and first account works fine. best guess is that it was a problem with verizon's imap server which locked up the mail application.

Glad it got worked out. Mine happened right at the beginning of the first major 4g outage so it may have been related to that.

[Q] Reset password

Is there any way to do an account reset on Android without hard resetting the phone?
I changed my google account password through the web browser and now the phone obviously does not sync with the account - it shows an error that reads Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
The problem is I don't see any options to enter a new password anywhere. Deleting account does not work as well - apparently some other applications are using this account and won't let me delete it.
Some other topics suggested clearing data for Google Apps - but I don't see that app installed either.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.
Unless something has changed on the 3vo the only way to remove a Gmail acct is to reset it. Have you tried to go to your Gmail app and see if it asks for the new pw? I know the Facebook app does it.
Sent from my 3VO!
Couldn't you go to settings> accounts and sync> gmail and then remove account....then add the account with your new password?
Nope just tried it. Doesn't work with the original gmail acct that was setup on the device.

So I take it you can't use the setup wizard. When I get a random reboot, it will show up like I just did a factory reset.

It should eventually ask for the password after a couple if fails. I don't remember but I know I had this problem on my droid incredible. I had changed my password then I nand restore back to a date before the password change and I kept getting sync errors, just kept going at it and it finally asked to reverify the account password.

[Q] Hidden hotmail account that can not be deleted

Hey guys,
My wife has a bell atrix and for some reason there is a hidden "hotmail" account that I can not delete. I can see the account in mail/message settings but it does not show up in account settings, therefore i can not delete nor edit it. So in the end I had to make a new account as "hotmail1" but now she receives emails twice.
Has anyone ever experience this before and know how to delete hidden account?
btw. she is running the latest OTA update with launcher pro and no custom rom.

go into manage applications and clear all data from any app involving your hotmail accounts. you might have to set all of them back up but it should remove the hidden account.
cleared all data and uninstalled apps that require email addresses but the hidden account is still there.
Happened to me before. a hotmail account.
Even came across a thread about it in the official motorola forums. The only solution I found was to format my Atrix!
your kidding me....a reformat? I really want to avoid doing that...
i've searched the motorola forums but did not find any such thread. Do you remember the link and/or search criticia? It would be appreciated!
update: nvm, I found the post. It is from someone who has a moto droid with the same problem. Does anyone have any possible solution to this problem without resorting to formatting?

I know it sucks, been there.
If it's the same problem you're having, this is the post and how Motorola's rep suggested doing a hard reset:
https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/27354
Thanks for the help. I will try a factory reset.
fyi....this is the original post at moto forums from someone with a driod that has the exact same problem as me.

My Droid X has gone thru at least 2 updates since I got it as far as I can
remember. All normal updates OTA with no rooting, etc. Currently on 2.3.3
Android at System 4.5.596 MB810.Version.en.US
Recently I went looking to change some parameters on one of my email
accounts but I discovered something interesting. Not sure how long it has
been there.
When I click on the messaging icon, I see a Universal Inbox, text, and 5
email accounts as expected. If I click on "Edit Universal Inbox", it
shows 6 check boxs of 5 email and 1 text account. So far everthing is
normal.
But if I click on "Manage Accounts", I see only 4 email accounts + 2 Google
accounts. So where is my 5th email account which I use as my primary and
how do I modify my missing email account?. It I try to add it in, it
complains it is a duplicate so something knows it is there but it does not
show under the "My accounts" page.
So how do I make visible, a hidden email account so I can modify it? I
tried wiping the cache but saw no changes as it is still missing. I would
appreciate some recommendations on what to try now before I go for the
factory reset. Thanks. Andy

unfortunately it never got answered...
I too just had that problem. I tried clearing data from every applicationInvolving my accounts on my phone but didn't help only way was to factory data reset.

Changing Original GMAIL Setting

When I bought my HTC Thunderbolt I logged into an existing gmail account that I thought I could change down the line. So, I have found that changing my original gmail account is not as easy as I thought. The problem is that when I go to put in a new event into my calender it does not sync correctly because it is syncing with the first gmail account I put on the phone.
So, before I go erasing this or that file, I want to check with some people who have good wisdom. My phone is rooted, I am on a different ROM and Radio, but everything I read says that you need to do a factory reset. So, here are a few questions I have...
Will a factory reset effect the rooting of my phone?
If it does not, should I just back on my apps up and do a factory reset?
Is there anything else I should know before I attempt a factory reset?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

gmail is directly linked to the primary account on your phone. the one you went through the initial setup with(setup market with). and unfortunately you cannot remove that email from gmail.
you can ofcourse add accounts via "accounts & sync", but that's a different story.
christ eh?... tell him/her I said salam.
I don't have any issues with erasing or not erasing the email. In fact, I don't really care if it stays on there or not. When I put a new event into my calendar it is using the email I signed up with. So yes, I could sync multiple accounts, but my laptop, tablet, home computure, work computer are all on one account. I like it this way.
When I look in my "accounts and sync" it says that it is using the proper account, but when I select a event in the calendar it wants to sync with google email I sign up with on my phone. I don't want it to use this account. I want to use the same one my google mail.
I am thinking that if I back up all my apps and data using Titanium Backup, do a factory reset, then add my google email so that my calendar syncs with the proper email I should be set. I can always bring my apps back using Titanium Backup and if all fails the worst that could happen is that I go back to my original setting using Titanium Backup.
Am I wrong in thinking this way?
Ryon
So, the gmail account you started your phone with... 1. Did you purchase apps on the market with it? And 2. Do you still want to use it at all on your phone? If you answered "no" to both these questions, do this:
On your computer, log in to the gmail acct you don't want. Export a back up of all your contacts. Now, log out and log into the gmail acct you 'do' want and import your contacts into it. It will not wipe any existing contacts.
Now. On your phone, delete the Google acct you don't want. Sync the one you do want (calendar, contacts, etc). You will have sync'ed all your contacts, email, and calendar. Make sure its all there.
If you answered "yes" to either question above, also do this... Once you're sure your phone has integrated your new main acct, add the old one back. Uncheck the boxes for synching contacts and calendar plus anything else you don't want to sync.

Oops... It is important to know, 4g phones are not linked to your Verizon service the same way 3g/non-sim card phones are. In fact, if you were to reset your phone and not sign into a Google acct at all, you would still have service after set up is complete. This is because your service is now linked to the sim card on your phone. Granted, you won't have contacts, but you could make a call or browse the internet...

Exchange Corporate email settings problem solution [JB 4.1.1]

I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "

Phone and/or Email App hacked

I think that my Hotmail and/or S4 has been hacked. Last Monday I received word that a strange email was sent from my account with a link to skin care or something like that, so I changed my PW. On Friday, I received an email from Outlook that says my account has been compromised and I should change my PW, so I did, again. Sunday night, I'm told that another strange email was from my Hotmail account, so I change my PW again, 3rd time within a week. Each PW wasn't overly hard, but always contained both letters and numbers, so not super easy to crack I wouldn't think. So I started to try to track down the source, I removed email accounts from my phone on Monday (I have the stock email app set to check 2 accounts and have yet to have an issue with the second account). I also noticed in the Hotmail access log that my account was being accessed in 2 other states while all this was going on. So, all was going well and today I set up the email app with my Hotmail account info so I could check my email from my phone. Within 2 hours, my account was accessed from out of state again, but as far as I can tell nothing was sent.
I've read that its pretty simple to send out an email using an account that you don't have access too directly, just set up to use as a sent address, nothing shows up in my sent items so that would support this possibility. It's the account access log that has me worried, they still seem to be accessing my account. I've had AVG on my phone for quite some time now and that doesn't pick up anything, tonight I DL'd Lookout and that also came back as a clear scan.
My phone is still stock, would a factory reset fix the issue? I'd question whether or not a reset would get rid of the keylogger/spyware/malware or whatever is creating this problem. What about rooting and flashing a rom? What else could be causing the issue? I'm afraid that if I close the Hotmail account that there would still be something on my phone that's giving others access to my accounts.
Sorry for the book, T.I.A.

I'm not familiar with Hotmail, but many email providers allow 2-factor authentication. I would definitely suggest using that if it is available to you.
Check the IP addresses on the accesses from other states - do they match your ISP? Sometimes ISPs give out addresses that show up as different states. If Hotmail doesn't show ISP, you can put the IPs into the search at http://bgp.he.net/ and it should show you the ISP.
It is indeed trivial to send email appearing to be 'from' any account without access/relation at all to the account. Unfortunately spammers often take advantage of that and there's not really anything you can do about it.
I did activate the 2 step authentication.
I did track the IP address and then Googled what came back from the search (Cellco Partnership DBA Verizon Wireless) and it appears that this is tied with VZ and the related towers. It just seems weird that at one point it says its being accessed in Minn and the next time in Colo but I'm in So Dak and haven't traveled far from home since all this started.
Regardless, last night another email was sent with my email being used as the sending address. I've decided to close my Hotmail account because of all the hassle. I'm still looking for some advise on whether or not I need to reset the phone or possibly root and flash my phone in order to get rid of anything that might be stored on my phone. Is it worth worrying about or should I just move on?

Can you PM me the full headers of the email that was sent? I should be able to see in them how it's being done -- whether through your actual account, hotmail's servers, or just forging your email as the 'from' address.
You'd have to get them from the person who received it... in gmail it's as simple as clicking the little arrow and then 'Show Original', but the method to show headers will vary by client/provider, should be easy to google though.
About the IPs, it's not unheard of to be assigned IPs from a state or two over. It's obviously not an ideal configuration, no idea why it happens, but it has happened to me several times in the past. But we can't say they were your phone unless you've been keeping track of what external IPs your phone has been getting...
It is a really good sign that they're not some weird server host in russia, etc... though.
It's very common for spammers to forge a sender's email address - they can easily send spam which is "from" you without having any access to your account whatsoever. Some of that spam will get bounced back to you based on the use of your address, not because it was actually sent from your account. The bounced spam should include the headers it was originally sent with, from which one can tell where it really originated.
Are you sure the "out of state" access isn't just legitimate access to the account from your phone? IP addresses are logical, not physical. The geoIP databases which try to map addresses to locations aren't perfect, and your cell carrier may in fact be associating your phone with an IP mapped to a different state.
