[Q] Upgrade advice, Samsung Galaxy S II X vs. HTC Amaze - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I'm buying a new phone this week, but unfortunately I'm locked in to phones that I can get via Telus. I really wanted the Samsung Galaxy S II X, but after browsing this forum a bit it looks like because it's on a different chipset it won't work with any of the ROMs for the default model. Is that right? Is there a development community for that specific phone out there?
The only real alternative that I see is the HTC Amaze, which at least seems to have a developer community (albeit small). It looks like a pretty comparable phone as well. Unless there is a phone I'm missing here (and no, I'm not willing to shell out the money for a Galaxy Nexus on Bell, as much as I'd love to have one).
Edit: My apologies, I finally found the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II forum, which is the same phone (or close enough that there are Telus ROMs there). Answered my own question, although I wish Samsung wouldn't be so bloody confusing with their model names.

Different phone, different internals and therefore different ROMs. Roms for SGS2 wont work for the S2X. I dont know about the SGS2X, but the one from Rogers is called the i727 Skyrocket, and i do know there is a dedicated section on XDA for that phone. I sold my SGS2 and got the i727 Skyrocket LTE, now im selling the Skyrocket to get my SGS2 back =) Despite the slower clock speed it feels faster than the i727. But then again that might be because my S2 was rooted and running a custom rom vs the fully stock i727. Like you said it has a different chipset, and i think that makes a difference.

US T-Mobile Galaxy S 2

I have been doing a lot of research on what phone I should get next since I recently dropped my HD2 and just about killed it. I am stuck between the HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S 2. My main concern is the fact that the S 2 for T-Mobile is so different in hardware from the other models, will there be support for it, ei. radios, ROMs, KERNELS. As of now, the Sensation looks like the phone to go with because there is already support for it. But, looking at the specs for the S 2, if it all works then I could wait on support. Any ideas?
I am also interested in SGSII Tmobile US, would also like these questions answered
The T-Mobile variant was released not to long ago so I would give the developers some time. Telus in Canada is releasing the same model so this would probably aid in the development. I don't think that it will ever be as extensive as the international model. Here is the development section for the T-mobile http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1332 I would see what comes up in the next couple of days before making a decision.

[Q] Samsung GS2 or Skyrocket?

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the AT&T Galaxy S II or the GS2 Skyrocket. I currently have the Motorola Atrix.
I love Samsung's Android devices and I have a Samsung Captivate collecting dust. I miss Samsung and I'm coming back. Should I just get the GS2 or should i get the Skyrocket. I have never owned a device with a 4.5" screen and I don't know if that is too big. Finally, what device has better development support? I want to get a device that has the better support as well as the one that is most likely to get Android 4.0 before June 2012.
Thanks to all of those who help!
S2 by 10 miles. Skyrocket is like its retarded brother because ATT cannot release a phone unless they completely butcher it.

When I say, GS2 I'm talking about the AT&T version. not the unlocked version.
I'm almost sure that's what he is talking about here sgs2 at&t because it is a sgs2 just at&t sgs2.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note i717R or GT-N7000

Hello all,
I recently bought Samsung Galaxy Note i717R from someone and I got it unlocked to use with Bell Mobility.
I've rooted the phone and it feels that the phone lags sometimes. I don't even have much installed. In fact I had much more stuff installed on my previous SGS2! Even the batter life is poor than what I was getting on my S2. (4 hrs vs 2 hrs screen time). I'm not complaining about battery life. Just stating my results.
Anyways, my question is wether I should sell the i717R model and buy the International (N7000) model. I've heard/read stuff that the International version is better than the devices provided by AT&T, Bell, Rogers etc. Is it true? OR
am I better off staying with my i717R.
Selling the i717R isn't a problem, and neither is buying the N7000! I'm sure I will get it for the same price!
Please suggest...
Thanks!
I was wondering this question too as I went with the n7000. I have to say though that I don't regret it at all. This things flies and has a great dev community. The battery life is also amazing (4hrs on screen time in 16hr and I'm only at 33% ) I wonder what i717 users will say though

Great, few more posts favouring N7000 and my decision will be firm!
Thanks for replying!
You should also ask in the n7000 forum. You'll here unbelievable praise there

Haha, totally!
Thats a nice idea
I wish I would of gotten the n7000. So much more development to choose from. Don't get me wrong I love this phone but I'm bored with it already. Then again I get bored with things after about a week and want the next latest and greatest out there lol.

Sell your i717 then
And to be honest, I feel the same way. For my SGS2, there were hundreds of ROMS to choose from. For i717, we barely have any. I tried a few, and I definitely would prefer to be on stock GB 2.3.6.
So I think most probably I'm gonna sell it today/tomm, and hopefully I can get a n7000 for almost the same price!
I'm starting to feel the same way Bout the i717, so many people bash the phone I feel like I made a bad choice, but besides what the others say I love my phone, the only other reason would be because the other has more roms
What's the major difference between the I717 and the N7000? Isn't the I717 supposed to be LTE, while the N7000 isn't?

Yes, that, and the n7000 has the exynos soc while the i717 has a Qualcomm soc. In my opinion, the soc's are a tossup, as my phone performs flawlessly, even though people rave about the exynos being better. The only real difference I see as a result of the different chipsets is that the n7000 has more ROMs. Which since we have a few really good ones, and a bunch of great devs, I have no complaints about.

Go Intl Note. Always better. Made a mistake of getting the AT&T Note. Had a Cappy and as far as mods that's what this Note is like, miss my SGS2. Anxiously awaiting the SGS3. Don't really care for LTE. Unlocked and Intl is the best if u wanna mod.

Decision Made!!
Alright guys its done!!
NOTE i717R SOLD for $610 + $25 for shipping on eBAY!
And this other guy is giving me a month used international version with a flip case for $550! I doubt I can get a brand new one for this price. He mentions there no signs of usage! So I think its a good deal!
I'll be n international note owner very soon!
So what is the feeling now. Which model is better? Why isn't the lte version better?
I regretted getting the i717 until I started playing with roms. I have CM9 on it now and its really fast and responsive! I love my note now.
Think about it... 1.5GHz dual core with 1GB RAM. Does it sound like that kind of hardware should have any difficulty running a little phone ? Lol. With each software update the phone gets better, I can't wait for jelly bean!
Having said that, the quad core n7000 has a bright future if app development becomes more heavily multithreaded.
The N7000 isn't quad-core, it's dual-core Exynos 1.4Ghz. I717 is dual-core Snapdragon 1.5Ghz. N700 has ARM Mali GPU while i717 has Adreno 220 GPU. Both have 1GB RAM. i717 is supposed to have better 4G LTE than n7000 hence why it's AT&T's model. The buttons are also different. While both are nice phones, I prefer the i717, especially for $250. With the kernel release and CM9 nightly it's super smooth.
N7000 better but i717 nicer looking
If anyone is still reading this thread. I went to all the trouble to get the i717 version because it looks better IMHO without the physical home button. I'm in the UK and initially had pretty bad mobile network connect until I flashed more recent modems, then it was ok. I can't confirm it supports EU GPRS data when there's no 3G but 3G speeds are comparable to my other phones. The i717 doesn't support 900MHz 3G/HSDPA which is a commonly used frequency in the EU, so far that hasn't caused me any issure, maybe I'm lucky and Three.co.uk support 2100MHz don't really know.
From what I read the chipset / processor on the N7000 is supposed to be better. I haven't had any performance issues with my i717 though, no complaints there. But the N7000 has a Yamaha sound card on the Exynos chip so you can play with 'Voodoo Louder' app to get a big boost to your audio volume, not able to get that on my i717. Also the stock AT&T software is a pain in the ass, esp' as it kept reporting an error connecting to AT&T, CM9 and Team Perfection soon got rid of that and perform very nicely. Also the N7000 has FM Radio while the i717 doesn't.
Not sure if it's just my phone buy my g/f says my voice is muffled an low volume on calls with my i717. Contacted Samsung who say I have to send it back to the USA for repair which I don't fancy doing.
In retrospect I should have just stomached the physical home button and got an N7000. Might eBay my i717.

Wow that's a lot of trouble just for some capacitive buttons! Shame you can't keep it.
So just to be clear, the international Samsung galaxy note is not a 4G LTE and the ATT samsung galaxy note is a 4G LTE phone.
I was going to buy the international verison but i need to be sure that the international verison is not 4G LTE.
The international version does not support LTE due to its processor. That's why north america has a different version.
Although the international note 2 will likely be out in October....

The international version is supposedly smoother. I have the AT&T version and get great battery life and little lag. There seems to be a bunch of complaints about our version and hardly any(if any) on the international version. If you don't care about LTE then it might be a good move. Hopefully someone that's had both will chime in. just my two cents and little help to you(lol).

Questions about t-mobile galaxy s2 vs s3 based on ICS rom changes

So I'm looking to switch to the t-mobile 30$ monthly 4g and have been looking at a phone. Theres a pretty big price difference between the s2 and s3 and I'm not sure its really warranted after you factor in that ICS is available via roms for the s2.
I guess my questions are- is the screen on the s2 really going to be that much better with its plus display? I know the t-mobile s2 is a more or less suped up version of the normal s2. Also, will the camera be identical to the s3 since from what I understand the only difference was the software? What downsides am I really looking at in the end choosing the cheaper and older phone?
thanks in advance for any insights!

I'm guessing you're asking about the T-Mobile USA versions of the S2 and S3?
This isn't the forum for the T-Mobile USA version of the S2, that is in a different forum instead.
