Natwest App - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

I'm currently using the latest MiniCM7 on my X10 mini.
The one app I'm really missing is the official Natwest App. It doesn't appear in the market on my phone and if I look it up on the android market on my computer then I am told it is incompatible. I'm just curious as to whether people on other ROMS are able to download it? Maybe I could modify something to make it compatible.

Apparently a lot of people have had similar problems, trying to run a UK banking app on anything other than a stock ROM.
I had a quick Google hunt about this and quite a few people suggest using the app, Bank Control, which apparently works with Natwest as well as some other banks. Some have talked about editing the phone's build.prop as well.
Not much help, I know, but hopefully this may be useful to you.

I've been reluctant to try Bank Control as its not officially supported by Natwest. I've finally given it a go and now can't register with it for some reason.
I'm interested in modifying the build.prop. People seem to have had success on other phones by editing the ro.build.fingerprint. Could somebody post that line from a stock X10 mini so I could give it a go? Or could I use the ro.build.fingerprint from a different phone without it affecting anything?

Well, I could..but it might be easier if I just gave you the whole thing and you can pick the bits you need..
I've had to zip it because .prop files can't be attached here.

Worked like an absolute charm, thanks a lot!
In case anyone searches for this I changed the ro.build.fingerprint line to
Code:
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/U20i_1238-7173/U20i/delta:2.1-update1/2.1.1.A.0.6/-X_d:user/release-keys
Didn't have to change anything else.

No problem, I'm glad it worked out.

[Q] Question about default.prop

Hi,
I'm having a few minor problems with the Android Market since rooting. For example, a game I paid for called "My Paper Plane 2" is nolonger available to download even though the trial/demo is available.
I've tried a lot of the fixes on this forum and with no success so far and while looking through the contents of default.prop and build.prop I found something that I wondered if an entry in the default.prop file might be contributing to this problem.
This is the line I am wondering about in default.prop
ro.product.locale.region=US
I did a bit of googling on the phrase "ro.product.locale.region=" and noticed that this line varies....
ro.product.locale.region=IT
ro.product.locale.region=FR
ro.product.locale.region=GB
...as a few examples.
As I'm based in the UK, could this be why the market isn't showing all the apps I would expect. Should I edit the file (I've pulled a copy off the phone but thought I'd ask the question here before pushing it back just to err on the safe side) to GB and reboot? Or has anyone else got any suggestions on what might be causing this?
As a few more examples, I can't also find the demo of Touchdown but I can see the full paid app.
And another game called Armageddon Squadron doesn't appear either.
And a program suggested to search for on this website...
careace.net/2010/06/16/how-to-fix-protected-android-market-app/
"Dr Droid"
...well, I can see the demo but not the full paid version.
You need to modify build.prop/default.prop for valid
ro.build.fingerprint=xxxxxxxxxx
for the UK market. Your OS version might be not authorised for the UK market yet.
For the Japan market I've had to use the fingerprint from the older OS.
Hi and thanks for the reply wildthing_san,
I've pulled a copy of the build and default files from an original X10i that I issues to one of my directors which looks like this...
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/X10_1235-7379/SonyEricssonX10i/es209ra:1.6/R2BA020/1274691689:user/rel-keys
And from looking at this forum page...
http :// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711907&page=239
...the bit that looks important seems to be the bit I bolded.
However, on checking through the default file, there are a couple of other references to this like...
ro.semc.version.cust=1235-7379
ro.product.name=X10_1235-7379
I also can't find any reference to that number in the build file.
So my question is, (in a kind of is it safe way) should I just update the default file finger print in my phone to include that 1235-7379 reference, i.e. change it from....
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/X10_1232-9897/SonyEricssonX10i/es209ra:1.6/R2BA024/1276581782:user/rel-keys
to...
ro.build.fingerprint=SEMC/X10_1235-7379/SonyEricssonX10i/es209ra:1.6/R2BA024/1276581782:user/rel-keys
...and ignore those other references or change those as well?
EDIT: Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you my friend.
Your suggestions were spot on, I did basically what I was wondering above including the extra two changes to the version and name and everything works spot on!!!!
Thanks again mate! Really appreciate the help/advice.
Might have spoken too soon. Some apps have come back. But not all. Still missing one polarbit game and strangely a couple of unimportant free apps. Trying the clears cache trick and will wait 24hrs to see if things continue to improve. My Paper plane 2 is back atleast
Sorry for hijacking your thread sligthly, I would appreciate it if somebody could upload a Nordic, or preferrably Swedish default.prop.
Im curious to see what the following lines looks like
ro.semc.country=
ro.semc.locale.language=
ro.semc.locale.region=
Anyone ?
Please ??

Thinking of rewriting the root script

I need input on if I should keep everything as is or change it to this kind of menu
Code:
Press 1 to root
Press 2 to add gApps
Press 3 to replace system components
I personally like how it is now but want public opinions.
I personally felt that it was fine as is, very simple and straightforward however, if you could make the Root script Unroot too, that would be interesting. Though i have no wants to unroot so i do not know how the process differs from rooting it (i.e. is doable through batch files) so it is even capable of being done that way. My 2 cents for what they are worth.
Also, do not take this as it can't be improved upon as everything can, however even if you didn't it would be fine as is.

I already released a unroot one click app. :|
I think it's fine as is. It's easy enough to understand, once you get everything working properly.
I love the root script it eliminated some force close issues on my device. I was wondering since roms are not avaiable if their could be custom scripts. Maybe a super custom script with three keyboard choices a choice of launchers replaced stock email, stock keyboard,gallery, wallpapers, homecatcher and other enhanced apps. I don't know if this is a direction you want to go just throwing it out there. It might help some new users. Also I dont know if its possible to have shortcuts like any cut has incorperated for debug keyboard and application menus that are hidden. Again just thinking outloud so if this sounds like a big pile of suck please just ignore and move on.

When I ran the script, the last part of nookandzergy that put on a custom keyboard didn't work. So I just reset and did the root with saying no to custom keyboard and it worked fine.
I like your idea. I ran the script in the original thread and it said it was successful. But the android market is hinky. It took dforever to register my device, and now it crashes as soon as it is launched. I did a factory reset, still have the same problem. Is there a way to tell for sure that the root was succesfu,. Thanks btw for your hard work on this. It is greatly admired.
Would it help resolve the driver issue that a lot (me) have had?
Dude thats strictly a windows problem. I swear, trying to get this thing detected properly on windows 7/xp was one of the most frustrating adroid rooting experiences I've ever had. After 3 hours f screwing around with the windows method, I switched to Ubuntu linux and had it rooted in 30 min.
I thought you script was fine as is, this is my first Android device and first experience Rooting and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks

Spoken like a true developer. You craft a thing of beauty and continue to be drawn to making it even cooler.
I don't know if you should rewrite the script or not but I like your attitude!
I decided to not rewrite it to have a numbered menu as that wouldn't go with my idiot pproof batch scripting habits so instead, I added new features yesterday and today.

I think it is working great

Thanks, I've been meaning to ask this, I saw it and a quick Google came up without any useful results.
I would be interested in knowing.
Can't find any reliable info on what it is/does, but I did come across a post on a different forum with some guys who seemed fairly knowledgeable... they were seeking to remove as much bloatware as possible from a previous LG phone... it wasn't an ancient phone though, fairly recent. Anyway, they were able to disable that program without any ill effects...
As for whether it can be disabled on our phone without causing issues, and whether one could go a step further and just delete it... I think the quickest way would be for somebody to give it a try.
Maybe someone who has additional knowledge of LG/AT&T apks would know specifically what this AAT is for.
Found it.

How to change operator text?

Hello.
I am running stock ICS 4.0.4, and would like to change my phone's operator text to my own, custom text (for example, change "T-Mobile" to "BagelDog"). I have already tried an app named "Carrier Name" which did not work. Has anyone successfully achieved this result on their I777 and can share the solution?
Thanks.
Without root at the very least that'd probably not be achievable .
My phone is rooted.
Oh well then you can definitely do it. May have to get a little technical if you don't want a simple app fix though.
Technical is fine, I'm no stranger to it. Could you provide the steps, please?

First, you must discover where the text you want to change is located. I'd guess it's somewhere in the framework, maybe in system ui, but I don't really know. Then you need to learn how to edit that file or collection so that you can change the text. It may require decompiling and recompiling something, depending on where it is. Sounds like you have some study time ahead of you. These would be the first steps in becoming an android developer. If it sparks your interest, you might go down that path.
Happy hunting.

Chinese text in caller id

Dear All,
Recently got a Chinese phone from the net running ICS. I set the language to English, but some cuneiform text appears below the name of the people calling me. Is there any way to fix this?

Other than a custom rom or knowing how to decompile the apps and edit out the coding, probably not. Only possible easy solution that might or might not (probably not...) would be to make sure the locale is set to an English speaking country using something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bruce.setlocale
Thanks.
I am not intimidated my code as such (fluent in c++) but it'll take some time to understand android... Any idea which app I should look at? considering android is open source, I can probably patch the change in, create a replacement app and see if that works...

It's most likely either in something like a LocationProvider.apk (/system/apps) or the phone/dialer apk. If you are rooted, I'd try and free the LocationProvider,apk and see if that doesn't help. Try the easy stuff first. But I'd poke around in a thread like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1891962 or something similar that deals with this idea on porting Chinese roms to English.
Or you could just be lazy and see if installing another Contact/Dialer app from the Play Store just circumvents the whole deal.
Already tried using a caller id app, its more of a hit and miss... I was wondering what would happen if I just happen to replace the apps you mentioned from those of stock android? does that make sense?
