Have a battery brick? Battery too low? This should help our all moto guys :) - Motorola Photon 4G

This is very iffy, and DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU CANNOT FOLLOW DIRECTIONS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is your problem not mine, if you mess it up
My apologies for supersized images, but they get the point across.
Things you will need.
1. Battery bricked Photon/Motorola Device (x/x2/d/d2/etc)
2. A SPARE USB CABLE, NOT YOUR MAIN CABLE! (Don't be dumb!)
3. Your usb cable you use to to connect your device to your pc.
Directions as follows:
Step 1:
Splice your cable by cutting off the end of the cable (where you would input it to the phone)

1a: strip the wire about two inches so that white, green, red, black wires are all showing, pull back Green and white wires, as they will not be used.
1b. Strip the red/black wire so they look like below, then wind them up like so.
2. Pull out the battery in the photon.
2a. This is where this gets tricky, look the postive/negative logo's on the battery above the terminals, place the red in the positive terminal and the black in the negative terminal.
2b. Place battery in phone with wires connected to terminal!
3. Plug usb cable into your pc, then connect your usb cable to the phone, wait 2 minutes, and you should no longer have battery too low messages!!!
Remember when you disconnect the phone, UNPLUG THE BATTERY USB CABLE FROM THE PC FIRST OR YOU WILL **** UP YOUR PHONE'S BATTERY SENSOR!!!!
This will work on ALL motorola devices, and most phones period.
This is like jumping your battery from a car.
You're welcome for saving you money , this helped me out SO MANY TIMES.

You need to dump that 8 GB Sandisk and bump it up to a 32 one. LOL! On eBay, 32 GB SDHCs are going around for $25-35.

Haha
now dats funny.

I would suggest not plugging the battery into the phone while doing this, instead let it charge for 20-30 mins. Unplug and put in phone
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App

It normally doesn't work that way, just make sure contacts don't touch, and not to rip them out of the device before disconnecting from pc.
Also if you do it without plugging it in, make sure not to touch the electrical tape together (of course you'd only be using electrical tape!).

I think this is one of those Jeff Foxworthy jokes
You might be a redneck if you charge you phone like a car battery
Man the things people do lol innovative

Well this is useful for people who sbf, then phone dies, and you can't do anything but buy a new battery, NOONE wants to spend that money, when you can be back up and running in minutes.

or.... just make a factory cable? then it charges while in rsd mode?

Desk charger/sync cradles.

Has anyone here tried one of these cheap ones from Hong Kong?
They are cheaper than the nearest option, and come with the right plug too.
It can't be expensive cause it consist only from ac/dc adaptor, usb plug and battery charger. I think it's right device.

I'm sure it is, I just wondered if it's likely to be good quality.
Tell you what, I'll order one and report back here once I've used it.
As promised, I bought it and here's the verdict.
Basically, it does what it says on the tin. There was a slight problem with the usb connection, but that was always the case with this computer unless I use a particular lead. Using the lead that came with it, it wouldn't connect. but using the one I normally use it works fine.

Having used cradles before, this one is slightly more awkward to connect but that's because it uses the usb connector. Previous ones have been spring loaded contacts and the pda would just drop into the cradle. This one requires a little force, but nothing major.
I've yet to determine if the charger works as fast as the original one.
All in all, well worth the money.

Hmm, seems I spoke too soon. The PDA won't charge unless the computer is on.
The 5V adaptor plugs into the back of the stand, as does the usb lead. Either of these will bring on the blue LED on the base, but the usb lead lights it brighter. I suspect there may be some problem with the 5V from the adaptor.
I shall investigate and report back (if anyone's reading this...)
charging with PC off
Hi -- I think I've got the same charger as you, and mine seems to charge fine with the computer powered off. . .
Alan
Having investigated further, it appears that the +5V from the charger and the +5V from the USB are linked directly. This means that with either one connected singly, it's fine, with both connected and the PC on, it's also fine.
But, with the PC off the +5V from the charger is fed back through the USB lead into the PC which pulls down the voltage somewhat.
I discovered this when I turned off the PC and noticed some front panel lights glowing slightly. I unplugged the cradle and they went off, and the blue LED on the charger became brighter.
dock
hi,
i've got the same "hong kong" dock as xmastree.
I think this is a good dock, simple and cheap.

mini usb cables

can i use a regular mini usb cable to send files to my phone and or trickle charge it from my computer if my charger isnt available.
i know this seems like kind of a retarded question but the mini usb that came with my phone i lost.. and i know that the end looked a little different then a regular mini usb.
thanks
Yup, I am using a generic one to transfer files. It is recommended to find one with a choke on it but I have used both. The choke looks like a bead or a barrel in the cable near the one end.

what exactly does the choke do?
where have you seen this recommendation?
The "choke" is just a ferrite bead that stops electro-magnetic leakage from the cable so it doesn't interfere with other electronics. I usually cut them off to make a lighter and easier cable to route around my work areas.
look around, you will see the recommendations whenever someone is flashing a rom or working around the inner workings of Android. If your just transferring pics and stuff no big deal, only when you really care about the quality of data will it matter

Umm, the one that I got with the phone wasn't mini-USB. It was extUSB. miniUSB works as well but I find it harder to insert so I just use extUSB. I tried some miniUSB cables that have two of those magnetic protections. extUSB also sits very good in the socket.
My camera, my old cell phone, my G1, and my BT headset all use the same mini USB plug and I use them all interchangeably without any ill effect. I prefer to use the one that came with the G1 at my house while making themes and doing lots of flashing but I use the other ones too for the same things and have never had an issue.

[MOD] Dual-Purpose Charge Only/Data USB Cable

The only disappointment that I've had with this phone is the lack of a Charge Only mode when plugged into my laptop. I live in the boonies, and the 4G connection on my phone is the only internet I have at home. Though the phone does charge while plugged into the laptop, the circuit is too low to keep up with the demand of the 4G connection at sustained download speeds. I did a little research and found out that in order to adequately charge, the data wires need to be shorted on the phone side, while open on the computer side. You could modify a cable for charging only, but it's irritating if you need to access the data on your phone and have to switch back and forth between 2 cables. After some thinking, I came up with a solution. You'll need at least half-assed soldering skills, a DPDT switch which can be procured at your local Radio Shack, a midro usb cable you don't mind butchering, and a way to seal/isolate the connections. I used a hot glue gun, which served my purposes, even if it isn't pretty. I'm sure there's a way to make it look more professional, but I didn't feel like spending more than I had to, or in making the cable more bulky.
1. Cut the cable in half, strip away some of the insulation from the cable, and some from each of the 4 wires.
2. You'll only be soldering the green/white wires to the switch. Following the diagram below, solder the 6 poles in the following way:
A. Green wire from the computer end of the cable.
B. Green wire from the phone end of the cable.
D. White wire from the computer end of the cable.
E. White wire from the phone end of the cable.
C & F. Solder these pins together. If you need, use a jumper wire. A stripped twist tie works great
3. Solder the red and black wires back together, and properly insulate with shrink tube or electrical tape.
4. Solder the ground strands together as well, and make sure they are insulated or isolated from the other circuits to prevent shorting.
5. Isolate the leads soldered to the switch. Use something to insure the wires don't come loose or come into contact with each other. I used a hot glue gun because of the ease, quick drying time, and I had it on hand. Silicon caulk would probably work just fine, but the drying/curing time makes it more difficult.

That's it. When the switch is in one position, the data leads are connected from the computer end to the phone end, and you can use your phone in Mass Storage mode. When in the other position, the data leads are shorted from the phone side, making the phone think it's plugged into a standard wall or car charger. Each time you flip the switch, you will need to disconnect and reconnect the cable for the phone to switch modes, at least I had to on my MacBook. Alternatively, you could add a momentary-off switch on the red wire to simulate a reconnection of the cable, but I'm of the mind that simpler is better.

Bricked: "Error! Please plug out charger!" ( Mtk6577)

Hello, the other day i connect my n9770 to the computer, and this turn of and not restarted. It say: "Error! Please plug out charger!"
I've opened the mobil because had to change the screen and I have looked if he had any bad soldering, but everything seems ok.
The Flash tools not recognize the mobil.

(sorry for my bad English)
Same Problem showing in my phone..how to solved ur problem....pls. Reply me as soon as possible
This means 1 of 2 things.
A. The phone is liquid damaged, and the solder around the charging port is corroded.
or
B. The charging port is coming a little loose, or some of the pads have cracked a bit.
To fix A. Clean really well with 91% Rubbing Alcohol and toothbrush, and take a little heating gun from a rework station, temp set at 349C for me, and move the gun back and forth over the port slowly and steadily, until you notice the solder melt, lift the gun away and turn off, let the solder re-set itself. Try to charge it then.
To fix B. try A's solution first. If it doesn't work, buy the charging port off the internet for your phone, heat up the solder, and gently pull the charging port upward off the board, insuring the pads are staying on the board. Heat the solder back up, and place the new one in the exact spot, in the exact direction. Let it set, cool down for 10+ minutes, and try it.
For liquid damaged phones I clean the board really well with a mixture of Alcohol and scrubbing bubbles foam on the entire board. Taking the board out of the phone of course.
Your Phone Is liquid damaged
you might change the charging port of your device this will solve your problem
hi, my phone (infinix zero2)fell down and went off, i thought the battery was low and plugged it it now brought out erro pls plug out your charger, what should i do?
Error please plug out charger solution

Fuhu Nabi 2 Usb charging

Warning, your warrantee is now void. I take no responsibility for damaged devices doing this mod, nor any issues that may arise in the future from doing this
Just felt like posting this little mod I did to a Nabi 2. After re soldering tge wires on the oe charge cable it finally couldnt be fixed anymore. It didnt take long for me to get frustrated with the flimsy, thin charge...thing, and rip it open to see what could be done.
After a little poking and prodding I found the simplest solution.
It seems the 5v pin on the usb port is electrically separate from the charge circuit, but they all share a common ground. Soldering directly to the usb port was all but impossible because of how the port is designed, and my soldering iron isnt that tiny, but I found a resistor tied to the 5v pin.
I soldered a wire to the resistor since it had a decent surface area to get a solid solder joint, then soldered the wire to the positive pin on the charge port. The result? Micro usb charging.
I have found a bit of a glitch however. Plugging the device into a pc does properly kick it into usb storage mode, but because of the low amperage, it begins to cycle the charge system between charging an not (as if contantly plugging and unplugging the device) the same happens if you use a charger rated lower than 1amp or a bad cable.
Besides that it seems to be doing fine

Thanks. Not sure why I didn't think of this years ago. Been searching for the original cable to try and make some use of the tablet and decided to see if it was possible to charge via usb. Couldn't have been easier to modify and it works perfectly.
