[Q] Regarding MHL output resolution... - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have a doubt regarding the video playback of our galaxies... I'm checking the MHL output, and I have a couple of questions.
The TV reports 1080i, although I'd like to choose 720p, if that's a possibility. In the end the TV's native resolution is 720p.
Also, I'm afraid the video quality, although nice, isn't really hidef. I feel the video is downscaled to the resolution of the phone's screen (800x480), then upscaled to 1920x1080 for the MHL output (and then downscaled again by the TV to 720p). I'll have to say, the result isn't bad, but far from good. Do you know any way to play a video either at 1080p or 720p? Is there a way to choose the MHL resolution?
Thank you!

Videos on Prime Stretching?

Is it just me or does it seem like the Prime stretches 720p Videos? I usually watch Anime on my Prime and I noticed that 1080p ones look fantastic but the 720p ones look like they are being stretched to the screen. If I even try to cycle through the different aspect ratios like 16:9 4:3 in MX Player it still looks a bit pixelated. But I think its a setting to have it like on native resolution and its in a small box. Anyone know how to fix this? Is it just the file?

HDMI to TV video quality low

Hi, I've been trying to stream from ice stream app to my evo/tv via mhl adapter the video quality on the phone is great but on my 40" HDTV its really pixelated.
I've tried different Alps like mx and mono player but all seem to compress the video. Is there any way to not loose the stream quality from phone to TVs
Thanks

Maybe stream quality is not good?
not sure if it works for all tvs but on samsung tvs there is an info button that will tell you about the resolution and hz. the resolutioiin you probably know about but the hz is also important. hz indicates the maximum framerate of the input. it should be 1080p @ 60hz.

max HDMI output resolution?

what is maximum output resolution over HDMI out? it is the same like screen resolution 720 x 1280 with optional upscale to 1080p?
i will connect it to 1080p PC monitor, so i'm wondering about resolution, and picture sharpness
I can't find anything that says exactly what it is, but I'm pretty sure it's whatever resolution the phone is (for the Samsung Galaxy S3 that would be 1280x720). Hope that helps.
P.S. This should be in the Q&A section, not the General section.
If the video you are playing on the S3 is a 1080p video, even though on phone it will be rendered at 720p it will display on the external display at Full HD (1080p).
Same with the videos recorded on the phone. They render on screen at 720p but on external display via the cable will be at 1080p
1080p
Over 9000.

hdmi output pictures look like crap!!

They are all blocky and jagged. i think the phone is doing HDMI mirror and upscaling to 1080/24p. However, video playback looks good. Is it possible to change HDMI out resolution? The dev at HTC EVO managed to get change resolution in the kernel. We have the kernel source too. Can we do the same too?

Full 1080p video output instead of only 720p mirroring from Fire HD 6? Any idea how?

I have a rooted Fire HD 6 running Android 5.0. The tablet is mounted bedside as home automation control panel. Furthermore I'd like to use it as Plex Player to drive the video projector above my bed
I've purchased a MicroUSB SlimPort-to-HDMI adapter and AV basically works. The problem is that I only can mirror the tablets screen, which means the video output is only 1,280 by 800 pixels with a huge black frame surrounding it.
The Fire HD 6 hardware is capable of decoding full 1080p @ 60fps and the Slimport adapter supports 1080p as well.
Does anyone know how to squeeze full 1080p, so 1,920 by 1,280 out the MicroUSB port? I wouldn’t mind if the internal display would be shut off to do so (actual I'd prefer it). Is there a hack or app to adjust the Video output types and resolutions?
