[Q] Opinion sought on best CDMA droids currently on the market. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'd appreciate any hands on user opinions.
I did fondle a Droid 3 tonight as I've come to the idea that a keyboard is a necessity as often when posting on forums the cursor gets away. Are the post-2.2 android OS above and beyond that making touch only keyboards sufficient? If not, then I likely prefer a keyboard, although it would be nice to be able to do anything I want, without one.
Thanks for any input or sage you can share.
Does anyone know a site that has spec comparisons with current offerings' specs?
I've been making out well with a rooted and over-clocked Droid 1 bullet-proof work horse for some time now and I suppose I'm ready for faster and fresher. The AMOLE displays are nicer, that's for sure. I'd also like a 4g phone.
It sure would be a nice addition if the phone section of this site had the individual phones specs listed under their pictures with as many details as possible.
It does annoy me when I shop for electronics and they just don't show all the specs on all the tags. Some will tell which processor the device has, some will tell ram spec, some won't.
Same with lots of electronics that basically all have the same specs, even energy star numbers, some tv's have it displayed, some don't. Some tell these specs, others that have the same specs available, just aren't mentioned as to their numbers.

Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Disgusted by iPhone users reviewing the Touch Pro with EXTREME bias on CNET

Please be courteous and tasteful in your responses to this thread. I only want to show support for our phone and spread the good word.
I'm pretty sickened by some of the reviewers on CNET for the Sprint Touch Pro (i'm sure they'll do it to the verizon version too). They're rating this phone half a star out of five just because they're in love with their iPhones. They clearly don't know a thing about Windows Mobile or Sprint and the bias is appalling. "This phone doesn't have 3g" & "Just another asian joke!!!!!!!!"" - quotes like these make me sick (don't judge me for calling these reviewers names, they asked for it and it's just my opinion). Apparently, they have no idea what EVDO rev A is and don't realize our phones had it before the iPhone even came out. It's also obvious these douche bags skewed the "has this review been useful" option that cnet has for their reviews. Before this phone started getting noticed by people outside of ppcgeeks/xda, the reviews on cnet were much more realistic. I know i shouldn't care, but it's obvious iPhone users are bitter for some reason. That being said, this means war. Touch Pro vs iPhone users (keep it classy guys).
Why do any of us rate any product on a website? To give an accurate review of the product we bought and tested, so that others can learn from our purchases. That way, those people can make a better decision on buying a product. This is what this thread is about. Take back the respect that HTC should be earning with this phone. If you disagree on making the reviews right, then you obviously don't get it. I'm not saying everyone should go out and give it 5 stars, but it should not be getting half a star by someone that's not even with sprint and doesn't know what evdo is. It's neat to own a unique piece of tech, but the higher the demand, the better our devices will get. If HTC devices were more popular, maybe we'd be sitting with a CDMA Touch Hd right now, instead of the Touch Pro. Who knows? Sprint may even stray from offering so many business phones, if they finally get the iPhone. Where will that leave us?
I say we band together and write positive reviews on CNET for this phone that we've come to love in a short time. It's obviously much better than our previous devices and shouldn't even come close to getting half a star! I mean, I love WM and don't like the iPhone, but i'd never give it a crappy rating like that. I ask that everyone who writes a review on cnet: to please, keep is clean and tasteful. We don't need to bash innocent iPhone users, we just need to give a true rating to silence these biased iPhoners. If you must, you could always just click "reply" on their review and tell them why you think they're just being biased (replies to reviews should be fair game because the original reviewers can defend themselves. Chances are they won't because they know it's a bs review in the first place).
Please go here and write a positive review, so people who aren't biased that are looking for a great business/customizable phone can rely on real feedback:

UPDATE: We've managed to add about 50+ to the amount of positive reviews at cnet thanks to ppcgeeks and xda members. I think it's safe to say that we are silencing those irrational applehead reviews. Thank you.
PPCGeeks thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44937
shame on them, the touch pro is by far the best windows mobile phone i've used to date. i'm going to write a review now.. thanks
I think your post worked.
I wouldn't worry too much.
It's obvious that all those iPhone users are so unhappy with their purchase that they're reading reviews on other products and already looking for an upgrade.
For those who has SERO, all you need to tell the iFone fanboys is: "BEAT THAT PRICE".

It's a shame that they can only rate htc devices 3 and a half stars at most. This phone has improved in multiple ways over past phones, but it still is not getting credit. I'll spread the word though.

been spreading the word for some time now on the touch pro. it simply outclasses the iphone by leaps and bounds. the only thing that the iphone has is screen size, but i like the smaller size of my touch pro.
the iphone looks like a face shield when someone is using it.
only thing im siappointed about is smart dial.
ive gone from the xv6800 to htc pro and loving it..
i am also extremely surprised on how well sprint is working out for me because the coverage is fantastic. i had sprint in nyc and it was flawless, in syracuse according to many it's a serious issue and that information has turned out to be false. the service in syracuse is fantastic.
they dont even mention the card scanner which in my opinion is an incredible and extremely useful function on this device

I love my Touch Pro but one thing that's missing is the organized and clever way apps are available on the iPhone...the app store is a solid centralized front for finding apps and updating them, something I feel is really lacking for WM (and POS) phones. Sure, we have freewarepocketpc and pocketgear and (barf) Handango, but how easy is it to access one of those sites quickly from your device and see if there are any updates to your installed programs?
Of course, the app store isn't a perfect idea but it's a level of organization that I wish WM had. There are some really neat apps for the iphone that I wish we had for ours

exactly! it's supposed to be the best business phone sprint has to offer... that's something that's useful in the business world and also something they should have reviewed in their vid/article. It's not in the vid, but they mentioned it by name only in page 2 of their review... Definitely should have told people more about it instead of just name dropping it.

doesn't sprint have a store accessible by the default PIE homepage? It's not as great but who cares... we have developer sites like xda and ppcgeeks...we get a lot of our apps for free they aren't governed by microsoft. We can also install these app right out of the box, we don't have to jailbreak our phones. Apple has too much of a strongarm on their phone, it can't be used to its full potential... people have to wait around for official fixes if their phone is acting up. We also had orb long before iPhone got it, that tells you how hard it is to get an app out for them. Do they even have access to slingbox mobile yet?
It's a great phone and all, but I'll stick with wm and my touch pro... can't beat the customization and wm community. While our phones are decked out with different interfaces, if you look at people with iPhones, they all look the same... how boring.
they're not in the same league
the touch pro has a keyboard, iphone is a slim and dandy device.
touch pro has more memory (even in verizon's config), more resolution, and more carriers out there, thanks to windows mobile.
it may not be as hip and iconic as the iphone but imho htc makes some quality phones and windows mobile is pretty rockin.
The attitude I have been seeing on my daily marketing blogs and newsletter feeds is all about the iPhone does this or that, I even replied to a statement that the iPhone will be the only mobile that does cut-n-paste, when I replied, he told me I was wrong, that ours was a very limited C-P, odd I just used it an hour ago and it worked fine.
In fact here is the post at Silicon Alley Insider:
http://www.businessinsider.com/dont-buy-a-smartphone-until-june-2009-4
The folks backing the iPhones remind me of the old Mac/PC forum wars of years ago, mine is better then yours crap.
I only wish I could get a better battery life and Sprint covered my house better

Will be doing review for Clove - what questions are you looking to be answered?

Hi everyone,
I'm going to be writing a review when the SGSII comes out for the Clove blog, interested to know what questions everyone has for the review, and what they want to see demoed on video.
Let me know and I'll try to get through everyones questions in the review.
Will be a slightly different slant on the review than places like Engadget, in that I'll actually be using the phone as my fulltime handset, so if things like the GPS are amiss I should be far less likely to miss it than those reviews (real user feedback as it were).
Great news! Here are a couple of things I'd like to know:
1) Battery. How much does it last under different circumstances? So, WiFi on/off, NFC on/off, display brightness and so on. I know that making all possible combinations between all these options is impossible, however at least something indicative of how long the battery lasts in day-to-day use would be nice.
2) Heat. Does it really get so hot?
3) Graphics performance. Can you play Tegra 2 games on it? How well do they play and what are the graphics abilities of the device (so far we saw sub-par graphics benchmarks which were most likely due to the drivers so it'd be interesting to see whether anything has been done with that)?
Thank you in advance.
Thanks for your questions, gaming and battery life will definitely be covered (I'm also interested to know whether the Tegra Zone games will run on it, that said for all I know the first ones to ship could be Tegra based anyways), good question about how much the device heats up.
I'm mostly interested in general performance, such as browsing speed, flash speed, installing apps, (especially multiple updates on the market) any lag anywhere etc.
Also talk about the screen, would be nice to see it compared in depth with a SGS.
Also any chance you could install a 3rd party launcher and compare overall speed/lag/features etc with TouchWiz?
first and foremost i'd like to know when you will be getting the device.
do you have anything more specific than mid-late march?
Use it for more than 30 seconds, like the SGS reviewers didn't. Otherwise they might have noticed the lag, gps, etc.
Captivate, XDA Premium, Cyanogenmod

Will cover that indepth. Will be doing a screen comparison with first and second gen AMOLED screens (HTC Desire, SGS1), and also iPhone 4.
I'm a LauncherPro user, so will also be using that in the review and comparing to TW.

This is going to be my new phone, I'm purchasing it from them, rather than being supplied it for review, so this won't be a review written after a days use like you'll see at lots of places. It will be my day to day phone, and I'll release the review in installments as I feel able to get a solid feel for the aspects I'm reporting on. The last part will probably be a couple of weeks down the line from release, and that will be the one that will be able to give much better feedback on things like battery life, performance under higher loads etc. If you guys have particular suggestions for some good stress tests for performance let me know.
Camera performance would be nice. eg. details, contrast, noise levels, features, how long it takes to process a picture, artifacts.
Camcorder also. Say look out for stuttering in videos, reproduction of frames.
As stated above, a thorough test of the phone's performance for lag or any inconveniences in performance.
Sound/Speaker quality and its volume levels.
UI/UX interface. Eg. is it polished like HTC sense, or as functional
I guess check for if all its features are working. Eg. wifi, GPS, NFC, MHL
A review of the battery life would be nice, however i think I already know the answer to that, since it only has 1650mAh/1500mAh
That's all i can think of for now.
Edit:
Also I noticed in the blog how clove wants users to discuss the price of the Galaxy S II. Just wondering, and understandable if you do not wish to answer, but, is the reason you wish to discuss is to also discuss with samsung the huge price for the galaxy s II so as to negotiate a price drop? Or is it simply for some healthy discussion?
The review will be my first piece for the blog, so I have no inside information on the discussion of the price that is currently running, and the motivation behind it.
Currently testing out RMAA software on my PC, but looks like I should be able to give good objective feedback about sound quality.
did you volunteer to review it? how come they chosen you? why will you do it?
Which 3G bands does it in fact have? Clove lists only 900/2100. Other sites list quad-band 3G. It's possible there's a Euro and International variant...
How many SGS2 forums do you post to? Is that a valid question?
I want lots of 1080p video test runs. Try flinging it into the air with the red button flashing. Doubles as a drop test.
Link to blog?
I need to know whether it can RECORD CALLS (both incoming and outgoing, real-time without beeps). Thanks!
1080p video performance in various light conditions. open up heaps of programs and see if the general phone performance is still smooth. thanks in advance
EDIT: If you can, find out what the deal is with the exynos/tegra 2 versions of the phone

[Q] Tablet?

Hi,
im thinking about getting a tablet with android. Which one would you recommend to me? Motorola Xoom seems nice to me. What do you think?
Price vs features. No one can tell you the "right" one for you.
What's your price range and what features do you want? For me, a Kindle Fire is the perfect price and has great features - except I still need a host USB port for various reasons. Or think I do anyway. So I have a gTablet that I've been generally pleased with, although it's getting a little long of tooth now.
Here's what I do: First decide on my "must-haves" for features, and what if anything is a deal-breaker otherwise. Then narrow down to devices which fit that. Then google for reviews of the devices. Look at the reviews critically, "It's awesome" isn't any more helpful than "It sucks". But "the touch screen is hard to see and not very sensitive" is good info.
HTH
the USB OTG is top priority thing for me. the second one is battery life. ofc i dont need thousands of cpu cores, need just enough for the system to be stable and swift. also i would prefer something with sdcard slot

Being Aggressive with App Developers

Before I go into what I'm trying to propose here (if you haven't already guessed), let me say a few things and explain how I came to this idea.
I never owned a tablet, and I still don't. I'm waiting for the 32gb Nexus 10 to restock. So what I might say may or may be wrong because this is all based on observation from reading a bunch of reviews, user input, user criticism, and even fanboy hatred.
One of the biggest criticism from both reviewers and consumers with the Nexus 10 is the lack of tablet-optimized apps. But before I get bashed, let me state that I do know that apps upscale to the screen because Android apps are resolution independent unlike Apple apps. I am also aware that they don't look so bad most of the time and are very usable compared to when the Retina iPad came out and made its existing apps atrocious. I am very aware that this isn't much of a problem for a lot of you. But it is a problem for a lot of you as well.
The main thing is that it doesn't hurt to get tablet-optimized apps. No one is going be angry that they now have apps that look beautiful on their tablets.
Now what I'm trying to propose is that the Nexus 10 owners make it understood that they are unsatisfied with these current upscaled apps regardless of whether you are or aren't. App developers won't be bothered to add a tablet interface into these apps if no one asks for it in the first place, but consumer dissatisfaction is one of the biggest fears of many developers because if no one likes their apps, who's going to download them? Who's going to buy their apps if it has a 1 or 2 star in the market? Certainly not me and certainly not you.
I am not proposing that we drop app ratings to 1 or 2 star (impossible). I am proposing that there should be a sudden influx of downvotes to make it clear that people aren't satisfied with how things are. Downvoting it every so often will get diluted in the other votes. Maybe even sending emails to the developer could be effective.
Anyway, this is a suggestion/opinion. I'm open to discussion and disagreement. It can sound childish but I can't think of any way to show dissatisfaction. Hopefully there isn't any bashing and thanks for the read
It depends how many tablet uses there are that complain. It will probably be drowned out by the phone users giving it good reviews.
Developers can see how many tablet devices download their app. If that amount increased by quite a bit it might give them a bigger incentive to optimize their apps.
Basically we need the N10 and all other Android tablets to sell well to really get the developers attention.

I think there will be a great amount of N10 owners but I could be wrong. Judging from how fast the N10 sold out, I feel like it's going to sell pretty damn well even if it doesn't make record high sales.
The thing I wanted to do was make a list of apps that absolutely need some kind of tablet optimization. This thread is to raise some awareness and see if people are willing to join in.

The N10 is a look at the future. Though it will never sell in the mass millions, it will influence the market. Next-gen 10" tablets from Samsung, Asus, etc will be 2560x1600 too, midrange will be 1080p, and 1280x800 will be reserved for the low end and 7" market.
So a wise developer might want to get on the "HD" train early, so the apps are there and waiting for the more mainstream users when they pick one of those new devices up at Best Buy or Tesco, etc.
Which is of course what Google is hoping for.

[Q] Opinions on Z4 Tablet

Hi, what is everyone's opinion on this tablet, are you planning on purchasing it?
It says on the first line of the forum:
********ATTENTION! NO QUESTIONS IN GENERAL*******
Clearly your question belongs to the Q&A section of the forum (Not to mention that it sounds like a vague and open ended question which is inherently difficult to answer.)
I can see that as a new member you have been posting all over the place like many new members do to reach a higher member status, and nothing wrong with that, but please consider that if we don't try to post judiciously and in accordance with the forum rules the general organization of the forum breaks and it will make it difficult for all the users to obtain information, especially in a forum like the Z4's which is still fresh and clean.
Thank you.
I've never owned a tablet but I'd say I'm 90% likely to make the Z4 my first. Nothing like starting with TOTL!
The Snapdragon 810 gives me pause due to the overheating rumors, even if they have been *mostly* debunked from what I've read. Still, I'm going to wait until it's been out for a few weeks and I've read some reviews before I make up my mind.
This has pretty much everything I want in a tablet. It's the perfect size, lightweight, has a nice aspect ratio (unlike Nexus 9) and resolution, water/dust resistant, microSD slot, 64-bit CPU, 3 GB RAM... Hopefully the battery life is good (specs indicate it will be).
My only question is whether Sony tablets are closer to stock Android than, say, Samsung TouchWiz (ick). Also I hope gaining root will be fairly easy (I assume it will since it won't be carrier-specific). I've learned some lessons from my Verizon Note 4, which remains un-rootable and I despise TouchWiz.
I am going to buy this awesome tablet....
I hope to pre-order whenever it becomes availabe in the US, if it ever does. Sony makes great tablets. Love my Z2, and making it even slimmer and lighter will only make it better, in my opinion. Plus the keyboard dock has me intrigued.
Ive preordered it, cant wait! I have the z3 and z3 tablet, the z4 tablet will replace my surface pro 3 now that MS office works very well on android tablets.
if my sweet wife lets me, I will have this tablet. I currently have the z1 and love it, can't wait to get the z4.
It is so much exciting using in Z4, if you add a whole key-board. I merely enjoy this particular.
Im using z4 tab for a week now, the screen is great, very bright and A bit bigger than my previous tab(z2) but with smaller size , very thin and light, just waiting for the protective case as its not release yet.....its also alot faster switching apps, loading, even wifi connecting is faster, when comparing the usage of z2 tab by using same app remote computer video streaming it sees the differences! Im looking for now a safe way to root.....
The tablet is nearly perfect. Definitely the best I have ever owned. No major issues and don't worry, the 810 likely will only overheat after using the camera and fancy filters(which I will never use). Day to day use or gaming and video playback causes no issues. Office apps work and look great. Screen quality is amazing.
