What went wrong? **FIXED!! WOOHOOOO!!!!** - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure what happened here. But basically took a totally stock US ATT Unlocked streak and tried upgrading to the Gingerbread 2.3.3 version. Upon doing this, everything flashed correctly but I was stuck at the Dell screen-15 minutes. Pulled the battery and same thing, pulled it again and it actually started loading up. It loaded up and immediately force closes a bunch of things. Tried flashing it again with no luck. Tried flashing the latest ATT recovery with update.pkg and again, stuck at Dell screen. However if I flash CWM and load a custom ROM, it will load into the ROM but immediately force closes everything and it also isn't reading my SIM card. What the heck did I do?! Please help

could we have more details about your flashing procedure?

Have you done a wipe of the dalvik cache and a factory reset? Skipping those two are the most common cause of FC's.

Sorry guys. Initially. I installed the fast-boot drivers, got the phone in fast-boot mode and recognized by the PC. Gather the correct files and flashed the 407 recovery, rebooted and then flashed the update.pkg through the stock recovery manager.
After this failed. I flashed CWM. Wiped it totally and then tried two different custom roms and also installed the amss and dsp1 and still both would instantly start force closing.
I'm a desperate move I did QDL last night and everything was successful, however I attempt to install the latest stock recovery and update.pkg and I'm still getting stuck at the Dell logo.

Try the recovery from 360.

From my understanding. QDL sets the phone back to 305 recovery to be flashed. Should I try installing that, or as soon as QDL finished install the 360 recovery with the 360 update.pkg?

flash the 360 recovery in fastboot mode, reboot into recovery mode and install the 407 update.pkg. After it is installed do a factory reset.

That method isn't working. I flash the 360 recovery in fast boot and loaded the 407 update to the SD card and renamed it. Upon flashing the update I get a "error in SD card \SDcard\update.pkg.dec"
Do I need to add that extension or what's going on here? I'm using the files provided on the Dell Wiki Rom list btw.

On the wiki page there is also a link for hashes. Click on it and compare the hashes listed with the hash for the file on your local computer. If you have a bad DL the hash will not match.
If the hash matches then try using the 407 recovery, instead of the 360.
Also see this post in case you are coming from 347. I guess that there are issues updating from BB 347.
The easiest way to generate a hash for files in Windows (IMO) is to use the HashCheck shell extension. You right click on a file in Windows Explorer, select properties, and then a tab to view the hashes for a file.

I've followed everything you just said. I've checked hash files and all are matching. However when you talk about 347, I QDL'd and it put the recovery back to 305 unlocked.
I try to update viaSD card immediately after but it says it can't find the update blah blah. So from 305, I want to flash the appropriate recovery either 360 or 407 and install the 407-update.pkg correct? Then after it reboots from there, do a factory reset? I feel as if I'm very close, just gotta find the right tunnel. I do greatly appreciate all of the help thus far!

Here's a little update to bring everyone where I'm at.
I QDL and then flashed the 407 recovery. Grab the 407 update, rename it and put it on the SD. I flash via update from SD card, everything goes by. It reboots and I'm still stuck at the Dell logo.
After about 15 minutes of this, I pull the battery and then it goes to "Start recovery copy" and then reboots. Then brings me BACK to flashing the stock recovery but this time wants me to flash the 305 recovery??

If you flashed back to 305 with the QDLTool and can get to fastboot I suggest:
Put the rom file on your SD Card. Make sure it is named update.pkg.
Use fastboot to flash the recovery that matches the ROM, in this case the 407 recovery
use fastboot reboot from the command line to reboot the phone and hold down both volume buttons as it reboots to go directly to the 407 recovery you just flashed. Do not let the phone boot normally or you will have to start over.
Now select the second option to update to 407.
This will wipe all settings, apps, ect., from the phone.
---------- Post added at 12:02 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 PM ----------
I believe that we cross posted. If you have done the steps in my previous post and are still stuck when you flash the 407 recovery also flash the dsp1.mbn and amss.mbn files for 407 then reboot immediately to recovery and do the update.

The phone is pretty much dead now so I'm going to let it charge before I give it another go.
But I believe my problem is dsp1 and the amss files. That's one step that I have not done yet. I think I'm going to QDL again and from there do as you stated.
I did have one question though. My phone was factory unlocked, through all this, is that unlock gone?
Thanks again and I will report back with the results!

From what I have read flashing a ROM does not effect the unlock status. I also have an unlocked Streak but have never used it with any other carrier except AT&T so I can not comment from personal experience.

FIXED!!!
I'm back in business!!!
I used the QDL streakflash then the QDL repair tool. Didn't feel like messing around with all those update.pkg's and stupid recoveries so I just flashed CWM recovery, flashed the basebands for Ginger Streak 2.4.4 and it's back up and running!!!!
THANKS A LOT to everyone that helped. I've lost tons of sleep over this and have been up all night trying to get this right and it all paid off. I'm happy

[Q] Please help me

Hello,
I bought a dell streak from ebay yesterday running Streakdroid 1.61. Everything was working well when i received it, but I couldn't get access to market because the orignal owner's gmail account was linked to the device. I registered my gmail but it was still not giving me access. I decided to remove his account and the phone prompted that some apps were linked to it so i needed to factory reset.
Since then after flashing Streakdroid1.61 it showed unser clockworkmod recovery menu: E: CAN'T FIND MISC.
After searching I flashed Streakmod Recovery but no matter how many reflashes and reboots and resets phone gets into a continuous booting loop after getting to android logo screen. I feel like trying my hair out. Haven't been able touse my new phone and I have read and tried lots of solutions from here and modaco forum but no joy.
Please help me somebody.
Thanks
Why don't you start off with the QDL Tool and get to 2.2 v305, from there flash streakmod recovery, boot up, download 1.61 or what ever Rom you want. Then reboot and install from zip on SD card. that way you get it from scratch and not have to worry what the other user did to it.

How to boot into recovery?!

Okay so I installed a gingerbread ROM that keeps getting stuck at the boot screen. Yes, I installed the radio first and took all the correct steps.
But now I'm trying to simply boot into recovery to flash my backup of my other gingerbread ROM that actually worked. I boot into bootloader and it automatically tries updating the radio and there is no possible way to boot into recovery.
I don't know what to do.
When it asks you to install update, what if you say no, then you should be able to boot into recovery from the bootloader.
Sucks you're having issues.

Like g00s3y said, you must first remove the file you were trying (or successfully) flashed off your sd card. It's always best to remove this file once youre done with it. In your case you will probably need to use a sd card reader unless you can get your phone to mount.

I got the exact same problem
I ran into the same problem last night. I hooked my phone up to my laptop which has adb installed. When you're stuck at the start up screen, in a command prompt just type:
adb devices
You should see your phone show up under devices. If it shows up, then just type:
adb reboot recovery
This will get you into your recovery, and I just started the whole process over again. The 2nd time through everything worked great.
Hope this helps. (my phone wouldn't hard boot in to recovery, which I'm assuming is your problems also)
To hard boot into recovery, just hold the volume up key and turn the phone on. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Now I went and did it!
OK, so I was loading a new ROM and something went terribly wrong. I got stuck on the HTC, quietly brilliant screen. I then tried to boot into recovery thinking I would just restore the back up I had made and for some reason it jumped right to the HBoot and ran through some sequence of commands. Next thing I know I don't have root! So I'm screwing around trying to get adb to work on my computer and having problems with that. I try to recover again on the phone (power button and down volume) and notice that I still have s-off. Doesn't that mean I have root? But I also can't find a super user on the phone and none of my 'rooted' only programs work, they all say I don't have root. What do I do now?
Hboot is vol down and power.. not recovery. What that did was look for an update file on your SD card and flashed it. When you rooted your phone did you use the 1 click root? If so you probably just need to do step 3 again.. which gives you root and the super user app.. hopefully that's all it takes. When your done go into your SD card and remove the PG05 (there's more to the name don't have the whole file name memorized) zip file that's on there so it doesn't happen again

You will have to re-root now. This should teach you to be more careful and not just go randomly flashing and updating things. Read up some more before just trying things.
Yeah probably like he said your best bet is to re do the whole process.. Idk what you flashed on your phone or anything so just be careful and do your research before jumping into things.

When flashing a new rom make sure you check the md5sum. You can do this in adb or dl a program, just google it. If the md5sum comes back with the correct number then you know the dl isn't corrupted and you have the correct dl.
But as far as your current problem, you need to re-root.
Research your steps before you do them. I'm NOT a fan of 1-click. If you do it manually, and one step seems not to go right, then stop and ask on the forums. Someone should respond.

Streakmod install issues
Hey I have a Dell Streak on ATT (unlocked) that I am trying to breath new life to its 2.2 Froyo operating system. I am trying to flash DJ Steves Gingerstreak 2.4.4. I found what I believe to be simple instructions once I have StreakMod installed on my Phone. Can anyone help me get this set up? The link in this post seems to be spam, some sort of video player.
I have loaded Streakmod on the computer, have been sucessful with CDL tool and the initial root from 1.6 to 2.2. But I have to do something till I can swing the new G-note
any detailed help on getting/installing Streakmod up and running would be great.

Do it from dell recovery..
Not sure why people still install gingerstreak anymore. fards left and it seems support has stopped??

[Q] CWM installation aborted NO MATTER WHAT!!!

No matter what I do, I cannot get a single thing to flash anymore with CWM. I'm on the dark side rom, unlocked bootloader & rooted, 4.5.91, and using romracers 4.0.1.5 cwm recovery. I even tried tenfars and the one rom manager gives me, but the problem persisted. Is there any fix for this because it is getting VERY frustrating!
The only fix available would be to figure out what you've done. The CWM versions all work fine and don't require a fix. It's something at your end and with the information you've given, there's not much to go on.
It must corrupt the files when I transfer them from the computer to the phone. I've downloaded straight from the source and MANY other sources of the exact same rom/kernal/ect... and it all ends up not working. Is it better to download on the phone? Oh, missed one detail but I don't think it matters, I'm using a mac and when I download a file it auto unzipps, then I just re-compress it and throw it on the phone. Would that affect anything?
change ur cable... try different machine...
Same problem
I've encountered the same problem! I flashed darkside on my rooted AT&T Atrix, (unlocked bootlader, rooted). My friend borrowed my phone and saw the AT&T system update and installed it. the phone reboots and I couldn't move past that, then i got the little green android dude with the /!\ sign behind him. Tried factory resetting, restoring from backup, and even flashing over Gingerbread, but nothing worked! If you have found a fix, an answer would really be appreciated!

That's probably your problem right there. Use a Windows machine to download to, put the zip file on your phone from Windows, do a FULL fastboot wipe, and try flashing the ROM. (Or download right to your phone).
Sorry, I don't use a mac, so can't help there. I can tell you that just zipping files without the correct compression settings will cause the flash to fail.
e.g. If using 7-Zip you need to set Archive format to "zip" and Compression level to "store" when creating flashable zip files or they won't work.
In any event, do a FULL fastboot wipe before flashing:
reboot to recovery
wipe dalvik
wipe cache
reboot to fastboot
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase webtop
fastboot erase preinstall
fastboot reboot (to recovery)
flash ROM
There are a couple of scripts in the forums which are almost completely automated to do this.
Actually I figured this out forever ago (moved on to new phone), but I'll still help. Anyway download the file DIRECTLY to your phone, no computers!! Then place it on root of sd card (for convenience, you don't have to) and flash. [Q] OTA Broke my Wifi

This OTA broke wifi.
I am unlocked, was rooted, but no longer.
all stock.
and now there is an "error" under the wifi toggle. it can't be turned on.
Anyone seen this?
If wifi was really broke from this update I'm sure there would be a real s$&tstorm brewing all over the intertubes. I would try the update again if you wanna stay stock otherwise try reroot and custom rom to see if wifi is back. Personally I only ran the updated version long enough to get the radio and quickly get back to ics..

Hey! I have that too... gonna try reflashing the kernel. Was on dsb before update but thought I'd stay stock to check battery life with it. Didn't reflash after restoring my nand.
EDIT: Reflashed stock kernel, wifi error. Flashed dsb, error on flashing the update, "mainver is older" which is exactly what I didn't want to have happen with the OTA.

Hey feralicious , how are you trying to flash the kernel ? It's my understanding if you flash in fastboot the mainver of the kernel shouldn't matter. It only has issues if you try to PH98img.zip flash it that the android.text.file needs to be changed in the zip to successfully flash.

The dsb is flashed in recovery, then goes to hboot to flash the update which is a PH98img.zip file.
I found where scrosler posted a kernel to flash that is for the OTA version and flashed that and I see that my kernel info changed a bit but still get an error for wifi.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21907238&postcount=18
So now I just tried 3 times to restore the nand I made immediately after I downloaded the OTA and I don't know what is going on but it says restored and then when I reboot it's not that stock version, it's already back to Ineffabilis. I realize all things point to operator error but I've been making nands all along and have gone back to them with no problem and this doesn't make any sense! Ugh. All this rooting stuff was going so smoothly until now. I made that specifically so I could go back to stock + OTA that I had on my phone.
I don't know if I can start all over now since I'm already updated with the mainver. Guess I can try to use con247's ROM + OTA but there are no instructions for that.
I guess I need to go to sleep. Maybe do a factory reset tomorrow and try starting from scratch.

wipe data/factory in recovery then in amon ra go to developer menu boot to bootloader.. take the boot.img you removed and either place it in the same folder as fastboot or if you have set the path for adb so you can run it from anywhere . Open up a CMD , change directory to the folder with fastboot and type fastboot flash boot boot.img
This will flash the wifi module for you without encountering the mainver issue.
Well it seems that flashing scrosler's newer mainver boot.img should have fixed it. Right now I'm restoring a nand. I made them correctly but wasn't thinking straight about what they were, so I think I was restoring the last Ineffabilis from before grabbing the OTA. I'm now restoring the last one I made that should be stock OTA. Then I'll check wifi on that.
Was going to edit out the whole part about my nands from my previous post since I realized I wasn't remembering correctly but now you've gone and quoted it and spoiled my plan. Aha! I see the HTC boot animations so now I've got it back to stock OTA. Drum roll...
and wifi is working!
So the wifi error has to do with restoring a nand of the custom ROM. Tomorrow I'll try flashing the ROM fresh instead and see if wifi remains, unless someone knows that this will not make a difference.
Thanks.

Hey! I have that too... gonna try reflashing the kernel. Was on dsb before update but thought I'd stay stock to check battery life with it. Didn't reflash after restoring my nand.
EDIT: Reflashed stock kernel, wifi error. Flashed dsb, error on flashing the update, "mainver is older" which is exactly what I didn't want to have happen with the OTA.
trickster: When you say modules what do you mean?

I had this issue and it's from restoring a nand of a stock updated rom after I was in a mainver loop. What I did was go back to a stock gb nand I made and wifi was fine. I took the OTA again and rerooted. I'm good now. Do you have a stock gb nand handy??

Mine's all good now as far as WiFi as mentioned above. Just have to find out if I can use Innefabilis with the OTA. Thanks.
I did find out that I was not actually rooted after the OTA as I thought I was so that could be what caused it. Root explorer worked and superuser was in my apps so I assumed... But when I went to use Tibu just now it said I didn't have root, so that could be what went wrong for me. Now that I'm sure of root I'm going to try to restore my Innef. Nand and see if it still breaks WiFi.
Hey OP! Have you got your WiFi working?

CONFIRMED: Flashing/restoring Ineffabilis breaks wifi.
Wifi is fine with just the OTA but I get the error after restoring a nand with Ineffabilis or flashing it from scratch again.
Did you flash ineff's kernel as well? Everything is workin great here, wifi included.

Argh. The one in the first post of the Ineff thread, stock rooted? Yes. Someone posted in the Ineff thread that they have wifi as well.
I have a feeling it's because I didn't lock before updating?... but I read others saying it wasn't necessary. Starting over. Again.
Well I did everything over again using con247's method. This time I locked and unlocked. So now I'm ready to put Ineffabilis back on.
Hag77... did you restore a nand or reflash it from scratch? And was the kernel you flashed the stock rooted one in the first post of that thread? And did you flash before as well as after getting Ineff back or just after? What is the version/date of your kernel now? Thanks.
I have tried twice now to dl the ota ROM, wifi doesnt work on it for me. I looked in the kernel file, then ph98img and tried to extract, said path was not valid.... What should I do?
Thanks

Download OTA rom, and remove the ph98file from it. Place the OTA rom file on the root of the SD card with the Ph98img file removed. Now , open the Ph98 file on desktop and just pull out the file boot.img ( looks like a silver disc with a white background) Place that file into your fastboot folder that you used to unlock your device with.
Reboot phone to recovery, wipe data/factory reset. Once wiped, install the OTA rom zip .. after that is done installing, go to the main menu of recovery again and select developer menu. In developer menu choose reboot to bootloader. Once in hboot, plug phone into the computer and select fastboot.
It should say fastbootusb highlighted if properly connected and in fastboot.
P.S. you don't extract it, just drag it out of the ph98 and drop it into your fastboot folder
Now, got to the folder with fastboot and the boot.img image and open up a command prompt ...Make sure the command prompt is showing the folder your in as the path .. then just type fastboot flash boot boot.img.. this will send the boot.img kernel image to your phone.
Once, that is done reboot and you should now have the OTA installed with the proper kernel.

I went straight back to my nand backup of ineff- then flashed kernel with fastboot.. I never ever ever flash kernels w/ ph file- not that it can't be done successfully I've just seen too many people run into problems doing it. Flashing kernels w/ fastboot is the only way I trust and it's supereasy (although requires pc).. So to sum up- my path was
relock- ruu to scott's posted ruu
skip all setup on ruu and go straight to the update
reboot into updated phone once
pull battery- hboot- install amonra
restore nand
flash kernel
success

The ph98img wont let me open it. when I click on it (not to extract) it says its invalid. I redownloaded just the ph98img from the ota rom thread and samething. Will I have to completely re download the ota ROM?

Are you double clicking on it. Might have to download a program called 7zip. It is a free program that will let you unzip folders. I double click on the folder and I am able to open it up, but I do have 7zip installed so maybe thats why.
The thing is that I am pure stock, just rooted. I went to recovery and recovered to my original and only back up, everything works now, but I am afraid that the update will self push and break it again.

Well easiest way to prevent that would be to flash a custom recovery , then the update will fail. Guess , I didn't realize you could back up with the stock recovery never tried it .
Unless your saying you don't want to Unlock at all, then I am not sure because the update will get pushed to a stock rom with stock recovery. Don't think there is anything you can do except alter some files I suppose , but just as easy to accept the update
